well what?
what'd you get
hey thats good
๐ญ
anyway i had a breakfast taco in the morning so its fine
there was a networking lunch with the employers
but I wanted to spend more time talking so I ate beforehand and just carried a plate around with a little food as aprop
makes sense
any would be better tbh
interesting
if not...maybe its time for ||DE
||
if you land one of those internships, ill gift you the book

tbh DE does seem aligned with my interests
def sin(x):
return (x - (x**3)/6 + (x**5)/120)
``` How is that the sin function?
Taylor series
ah ok so its basically an approximation using polynomials, thanks
i wonder if that's how computers calculate sine, cosine, etc
huh
it's the approximation you get when you make a polynomial where the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, ... derivatives match at a point
it uses a lot of symmetries iirc
it's...complicated
Pretty sure ||DE|| would be rolling in their graves here. We're about to use microsoft power automate lmao
bruh
Tomorrow Monday's problem
they were talking about turning that on for business users here too
guess who would have to help with that effort
jk nose goes
they cant make me
I'm sold, less work and none of that "well, we don't know what the schema is going to look like"
honestly im fine with it. they can more easily run into their own problems quicker
i mean what
who said that
There's no easy way to automate this process to begin with. The data itself isn't exactly standard.
for us, im not sure who would use it but im sure some team somewhere is doing something extremely manual
bet
I saw the pricing, it's like 15$ per user, or 150$ per bot billed monthly
There was also some talk about a 3rd party vendor tool, but my boss pushed back on it.
ofc it is. isnt that about the same markup for "Microsoft Copilot"
user: "turn my word document to dark mode"
user: "wowww so this is AI"
Is it? I never really bother looked at pricing
yeah its 20 more or something i think
"Please remember to shut down your Sagemaker instances"
do you remember i said that thing
๐งโ๐ฆฏ I see no button
the only places that had devops stuff were bigger companies that also had swe stuff
then its not you
perf
thats good (?)
that would be good
i printed the exact number of resumes i needed
Here's the 2 memes stolen from my courses slack
clutch
ikr
let me see if i have any
hmm no i only have DE or AI ones
im pretty sure yall are tired of those
๐ฉ
i clicked on it
anyway my manager said i can go to an upcoming conference and theyll pay for it
theyll also pay for an aws cert
"rex, what did you do today?"
"i asked for money and got some"
sheesh
if someone comes, we can grab โ
theres one happening today?
or did you mean the meetup yesterday
thats just a meetup
a conference has talks and stuff?
this conference has international speakers
oh cool
ye. talks, workshops, and case studies
networking events, etc.
how loud are the speakers if they're international
๐ฅ
also talking with students today...a lot more people recognize me than I thought
people were like "you're in my OS course!" and I'm like "I've never met you in my life"
bruh
ah the old aboo method
What are the 3 most important factors to you when considering this next opportunity?
do i just say 3 things or should i explain them
i can dig it.
they're really good
Band-Maid is awesome ๐
ikr!
oh? maybe ill listen to their tracks
I will also give another song of them
hmm how long would the explanation be
i wouldnt make them longer than a sentence each
It's so motivating too!
This jojo theme is one the bests https://open.spotify.com/track/1iZX2BJNRwWAQcZeU6dnFW?si=5XDGmn5wToeOhw3hvnGkow&utm_source=copy-link
hmm are they similar vibes or is it just an amalgamation
some are similar, some are different
i used to do this because i used to just listen to one song on repeat
https://open.spotify.com/track/6FB8l5ZZ2SQMZ1wQWvwvFl here try this one
hmm eff it. link it to me
lol, i don't actually have one i'll make it ๐ฉ
I feel peer pressured to make a playlist ๐
then i realized i eventually get tired of listening to the same song over and over so i made playlists so i don't get tired as easily
what a tease
shh
i dig. ima just binge band-maid tracks tonight ig
damn their guitarist goes kinda hard
She is cute too lol
makes things easier as a side effect
wouldn't it approach 0 as the denominator approaches infinity
maybe if the sigma wasn't there
ohh yeah my dumbass forgot that was a sum
you could probably fiddle with this a bit to get it to look like the definition of an integral
hmmm
yeah that should either start at 1 or be 9.999...
not sure you could
you're missing a 1/j, and artificially inserting one doesn't really work as far as I can see
factor the 9 out, use the formula for the infinite sum of a GP, you get 10
the latex I write is usually pretty shit since I'm just trying to write as fast as possible for notes
god I never bothered to write LaTeX live
I did do https://texmacs.org which is a tad more managable to keep up with
i remember one of my senior labs was super tough bc we didnt have pre-labs. we had to make our own pre-labs based on the research question. anyway, tldr we had to do a whole semester-long paper at the end. never again.
snippets helps a lot. it's just muscle memory with some decently chosen snippets
like kjv for
\begin{}
\end{}
kjv is "env" in colemak
texmacs is quite neat for smaller stuff
seems all my profs use it
miktex is a latex distribution though
it comes with an editor thing
texmacs isn't a LaTeX editor
source??
oh right. what am I thinking of
texstudio maybe?
LyX is another one
(and fun fact which I've probably said before, texmacs is by the guy who wrote the paper on O(n log n) integer multiplication)
for that article? who knows
probably that guy
It can be quite hard to tell apart just based on the output
the one case where I much prefere LaTeX is when you write long stuff
nice version control because it's all text, defining a bunch of fancy custom commands to make your life less of a pain and make your stuff more readable
so true!
straight, I'm not a psychopath
๐๐
this looks a tad more sane
Combining the two expressions gives
\begin{align*}
\ex[S]{C_q} &= \pr[S]{Q} (\ex[S]{t}[Q] + q) + \pr[S]{\neg Q} \ex[S]{t}[\neg Q] \\
&= \pr[S]{R} (\ex[S]{t}[R] + q) + \pr[S]{\neg R} \ex[S]{t}[\neg R] \\
&= \pr[S]{R} q + \pr[S]{R} \ex[S]{t}[R] + \pr[S]{\neg R} \ex[S]{t}[\neg R] \\
&= \pr[S]{R} q + \pr[S]{\neg R} \left( \ex[S]{t}[R] \frac{\pr[S]{R}}{\pr[S]{\neg R}} + \ex[S]{t}[\neg R] \right) \\
&= \pr[S]{R} q + \pr[S]{\neg R} \ex[S]{T}.
\end{align*}
it's not
damn
it's @gritty zinc
when in times of need
but honestly, commands like this saved so much effort
you write a complicated thing once and use it
then you can tweak one place to update formatting of everything
almost like :O programming!
it always irks me when people use stuff like raw textit and friends ๐ฅด
write semantics, not style
(optional) star, mandatory, optional, mandatory, optional, mandatory
i.e. calls like this
this doesn't use the star, but optional mandatory optional
\ex[S]{t}[\neg R]
and produces this
the subscript and the given clause are optional
and star just adds a literal star iirc
much like x^* could signify a solution or something
@rough sapphire alpine + nix as my next step from now on
until eventually, nixos all the way through from the kernel to all the way up top to god almighty
i understand very well, i searched far and wide for a hoster that offers alpine and couldn't find any until the one i'm using agreed to "do me a favor"
i fuckin hate bloat, no matter how good it is for me
How can solve this problem
tons of american hosters have the good stuff. but i'm geographically limited to which host provider i can use
that sounds very nice
#1035199133436354600 how can solve this
premade as in manufactured or a baremetal server that runs nixos?
oh i see, that's very cool
i remember you mentioning nixos only needing /nix and some other directory
that titillates my ocd at the right frequency lol
i'm tired of chasing libs and bins all around
hahaa
lmao
so the first part is the path inside the current shell, and the second part is the where the binary actually resides (in the nix store, with enough hashing to ensure eNcaapsUlaTion and tampering resistance)
right?
absolutely, that part is where i'm at right now. how the build process ensures that: all the dependencies are met, no undeclared dependency can be (not even runtime dependencies) and it starts an environment with no environ variables or paths except those specified
oh i see, i see, right. yeah, i understand that in the wild, chaos always rears its ugly end
that's really nice
yeah, i see what you mean
lmao it actually dwarves the AUR
now that's impressive
oh i see, i didn't notice
in any case, i found all that i needed in amd64 in the link you provided. so i'm all set, lol
and hopefully surrealdb becomes a real thing and available in amd64, as well
lmaoo, i understand very well, man
lmaoo, that i can imagine
damn
what does ws stand for in this context?
oh i thought so, lol. so you mean like a rush of concurrent ws connections
lmaoo
hahaa
how do you keep an eye en CWEs and that kind of stuff. do you have a team inhouse that focuses on your tech stack or do you use third party services or somethine else?
that's really cool, man
you're like the guys on the titanic whose job is to shoo away the icebergs lol
lmaoo
i understand that very well
big companies have the chance to be able to attract talent and then choose the crรจme de la crรจme out of the bunch
it's harder to find talent when you're at a small scale. most are either clueless and smug about it, or just plain clueless lol
wait what
that doesn't make sense
yeah, i get what you mean
small scale also applies to budget lol, if that helps shed some clarity on what i meant
different ways to compensate people and to attract people
oh yeah, i agree 100 %
if you can't make the value of the feature you're trying to ship as simple and clear to understand as possible. prospects will nod while waiting for you to leave
you can even see it on their face, lol
well i should've specified that i was talking what i personnally experienced, i guess.
and i'm not even in the us, so maybe it's different there
yeah that's fair.
Sometimes large companies are seen as retirement home.
Startups can be where the action happens
startups with a lot of money can pretty much choose their own adventure, lol
i really am not complaining, though. it is what it is
lmaoo
Need a better chair
I do I just broke another by sitting
My asian ass is heavy
my friend just pushed node modules to his repo, its so bloated now that i though github was down cause it took like 15 mins to clone
rookie mistake
node module?
all deps downloaded locally
15mins
gotta be a lot of things on there
...
they forgot to .gitignore or something
yeah
๐ค
i mean, good thing i don't have *subscribed to git LFS
so if i were to try and push something big, i won't be able to anyway
๐
but i seldom use ML libraries anyway
considering most of js devs like to use byte-sized packages which do simple operations (ex: https://www.npmjs.com/package/is-number) that results in lots of lock files and project files (all in json) being pulled in node_modules, node modules is giant
In JavaScript, it's not always as straightforward as it should be to reliably check if a value is a number.
it's not straightforward?
Javascript
lamo
all the package does it this ```js
function(num) {
if (typeof num === 'number') {
return num - num === 0;
}
if (typeof num === 'string' && num.trim() !== '') {
return Number.isFinite ? Number.isFinite(+num) : isFinite(+num);
}
return false;
};
the name is also misleading
it checks if it's a finite non-NaN number
Well, that means usable number, rather than a concept (infinity) or literally not-a-number (nan)
NaN having a type of 'number' sounds like a joke
wait but NaN should be float, right?
not a number is a number
js only has a single number type
it is so dumb
is there a reason
performance reasons perhaps
The reason is the alternative is to always implement x small functions you can get from packages with test coverage
makes sense
a lot of those packages are like 2kb and nothing hurts in adding them as a dev dependancy
like cross-env
whose repo is literally archived
last commit: jan 2021
the repo is archived because its so small that theres nothing left to do in it
helps keep bundle to client small?
Okay so as with everything in Linux an executible is just a file format. The file format contains a header with information about what system (x86 ect) the executable was written for. Then the rest of the file format maps the contents of the program into memory and moves the entry point from the header to the place in memory where the content is. If you don't have a static binary (you need libraries etc not in the binary) then you have to also link the things you need into memory.
That's pretty much it
i suppose this will have a consequence of a callback raising LookupError being misinterpreted as 404
i miss rust's result + enum as err so bad raahhhh
miracle
also lol:
that's a giant ad
it was from a talk. the talk wasnt about vercel nor the cloud smh
bait fr
was it about fridays
it was about github copilot
It was about Mondays ๐
were they sponsored by Vercel or something?
i think they just liked the phrase
i dont think github is
it was from the vp of product at github
ic
also they said that report where they are losing money on github copilot is fake
they said they were making $100M ARR
whatever that means
Accidentally Received Rations ๐
interesting https://www.investopedia.com/terms/a/arr.asp
wait initial cost doesnt account for cloud spend does it
https://cpu.land is a great website
I talked to GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 a decent amount while writing this article. While they lied to me a lot and most of the information was useless, they were sometimes very helpful for working through problems. LLM assistance can be net positive if youโre aware of their limitations and are extremely skeptical of everything they say. That said, theyโre terrible at writing. Donโt let them write for you.
correct
joe reis says the same
https://vale.sh/ looks cool too
found that from the above site
While they often write documents, many engineers find it hard to comply with or participate in defining writing standards. It might be because they are only accessible in a humongous PDF style guide read by nobody, or because the contributing experience feels alien and does not fit in their daily workflow.
lel always the pdf
Thatโs sick thanks for sharing
i lied. its about $30 markup apparently.
Tree
Tree
Flipped a coin on the middle once
Crazt it happened
Even more fucking crazy i was getting a slomo at the time
This'd be cool, but we already have linters to enforce code style so it's not super feasible
its not bad.
aged like a fine wine
when was that
its been a good while since ive done these, i forgot how fun they are
The golf ones annoy me; brain doesn't work in golf.
i like golf
my first solution was using list comp, then realized i could just use count
i love golf
rem has the advantage in fastest and reverse because he's like 200wpm
moyenfound
im 100wpm, therefore one can conclude i have 20 iq
does that say 68 rpm
yeeted
I can only assume so.
that feeling when you write code so unreadable you cant fix it
i mean, i tried
I don't know why my shit ain't workin.
i got 100% in the given test cases, only 50% in the final result ๐ญ
split should default on splitting on newlines and whitespaces no?
rem you forgot about the first input
wait was it two seperate inputs?
the first input is the number of test cases
that's fine
i think i get an award for "most secure single line solution" lmao
I don't understand why it didn't work.
oh wait
i see
input() only gets one line at a time
you need open(0) for everything
isnt this just the most fun
I anticipated this input to look as such:
3\n1 5\n31 21\n-3 5```
it did, input() stops before the newline
input() stops reading at newlines
quick start a new one
assigning i=int for golf is like rarely worth it btw
you need 6? i think to get profit
i used it twice so... yeah?
unless you're saying use map, which fair
i dunno
i dont golf
no like
just use int
don't do i=int and then use i
you need to use int a lot in the program for it to save characters
๐พ
do i:=int or something
still not worth most of the time
and walrus brackets are 2 chars
radioactive? nah, the radio's turned off
3 to break even, no?
i=int + newline or ; so 6 total
save 2 on every use
yeah that sounds right
My first act as benevolent dictator is executing anyone that talks on the phone in public transport in speaker mode
My second act would be gulag for people that just stop walking in the middle of crowded sidewalks to look at their phones
HELLO?!
WHERE ARE YOU?! IM AT THE FRONT?
Vote for me, old man mar 2024
i would rather be allowed to break their kneecaps on the spot
i think my rage and spite is enough
a vote for mar is a vote for peace of mind
well
there are many ways to break something which hinge only *swings one way
