i just realized that praising someone for their intelligence/knowledge might in return, make you look (or more) intelligent/knowledegable.

even if you were in the lower position with less knowledge, and you were asking someone about a complex subject, and then you praised that person. It would subconsciously make it seems like you understood completely about the topic and the level of knowledge that the other person has. and in a way, you're acknowledging that the other person do in fact have a deep understanding of the topic.

and to acknowledge that someone has a deep understanding of something, you have to have similar level of understanding as that person. therefore, someone who does not understand about the complex topic would either respond with:

• "i don't understand but that's cool"
• "oh ok"
• "oh i see. thanks"

because they do not have enough knowledge to determine whether the other person is actually intelligent/knowledgeable about the topic or not.

that's true. but think about it. if you were to praise someone for their intelligence. generally, you would have to actually understand what they are saying.

and i think it has to be some sort of a balance. because if you give too much praises. slowly, that person will know that you give a praise for even a simple thing therefore reducing the importance of your praises.

Like for me I’m choosing a persona that’s not interested in dark humour, doesn’t swear often, doesn’t use explicit language because I know the server will consider that offensive
