the course that i found most useful here was ethics, namely, AI ethics, ive seen a lot of dumb uninformed takes on AI from technological unemployment hysteria to people celebrating ppl losing their jobs as "automating all of humanity"

If prod is being actively used, you can use higher offset so you don't conflict with what gets created after you check highest id and before you actually merge it

Back to "development db shouldn't get merged with prod db" - dev db is something that should be ephemeral, that you don't mind destroying and re-creating.
Sometimes it gets re-created from prod data (so if db also stores some kind of config or bugged data, you get it), never the other way around - because there shouldn't be any "live" data in dev
