Here

tranquil orchid
#

What'd you use to clean it?

#

Compressed air?

dapper dew
#

Do any lights come on?

plush bolt
dapper dew
#

Like the MOBO boot LEDs

plush bolt
dapper dew
#

Alrighty. Did you remove the GPU during the cleaning?

plush bolt
#

Just ram

dapper dew
#

Alrighty, and the RAM sticks are fully depressed and clicked in?

plush bolt
#

Hopefully, because i put them in tightly

#

I should maybe double check

dapper dew
#

Make sure to turn off the power supply

#

and then disconnect it, and press the power button again to discharge any capacitors

plush bolt
#

Ok

lament siren
#

ayy sup

dapper dew
#

Then when you take out / put back the RAM sticks make sure they are in the right channels and are clicked in. Then make sure the GPU is fully set, and all power cables from the MOBO are seated. Then make sure all peripherals are disconnected (any usb things) except for the keyboard / mouse and the GPU output (HDMI / VGA etc)

lament siren
#

oh this is off-topic

#

nvm

dapper dew
#

Once its all connected again, plug in the power supply, flip its switch, and then try to power on again

dapper dew
#

If you have a dual channel MOBO (4 slots) but only have 2 RAM sticks, there should be one in each channel

plush bolt
#

I have 4 slots with 4 sticks

dapper dew
#

Then the order doesn't matter

plush bolt
#

Oh ok

#

Also i didn't even turn on the pc, just plugged in the cables and turned on power

#

And it says monitor going to sleep

#

And i didn't even press the button

dapper dew
#

That means the monitor is getting a signal from the GPU probably, but the PC isn't on yet

#

Can you turn on the PC and hold down the Delete key as it boots to get to the boot menu?

plush bolt
#

Alright

#

It's not turning on

#

Just black screen

dapper dew
#

Are there any fans spinning in the PC?

plush bolt
#

Yes

dapper dew
#

Or boot LEDs on the MOBO?

#

Might try other output ports from the GPU / cables from the GPU or another monitor

plush bolt
#

I don't know if there even if a light in the mobo

#

Oh man I'm screwed

dapper dew
#

Depends on the MOBO. I know that mine has 4 LEDs and depending on which ones are lit up it gives different statuses

acoustic current
#

hey so im trying to code again after at least 5 months and my vsc is slow as fuck. like it used to run normally but now i have like 2 seconds of delay whenever i type/click anything. i have one dark pro, and the two official python extensions thats it. and i have nothing else open. why is it SO bad?

plush bolt
#

@dapper dew it's fixed now

#

Thanks for your help

dapper dew
plush bolt
#

Apparently the ram wasn't inserted correctly

dapper dew
#

Ahh, well I'm glad it was a simple fix like that

plush bolt
#

Yea me too

#

Otherwise i would've been screwed

plush bolt
#

@dapper dew noticed another problem

dapper dew
#

Lets hear it

#

But I do have to go in a minute

plush bolt
#

Windows is showing 6GB installed, and only 1.9GB of it is usable

#

And i have 12GB ram total

dapper dew
#

Ah

#

Try going to your boot screen and verifying

#

But it could be that the RAM sticks themselves are damaged, the RAM slots on the MOBO are damaged, or the BIOS / boot menu isn't configured to use all of the RAM

#

I do have to go though, good luck with the troubleshooting!

plush bolt
#

Alright thanks, bye

lusty widget
#

Hey, what's the question?

short robin
#

this pully system

#

i need to calculate the magnitude of force P

#

i thought it was f=mg

#

but thats not giving me a correct answer

lusty widget
#

Consider the force at point A, can you split it into a horizontal component and a vertical component?

short robin
#

hoirzontal?

#

yea both

#

or is it just vertical

lusty widget
#

So the mass, m (I'm assuming it's C) is downwards yes

short robin
#

correct

lusty widget
#

But the rope isn't vertical relative to the system

short robin
#

and force on a is up

lusty widget
#

Therefore not all of the weight is acting exactly vertically

short robin
#

right correct

lusty widget
#

Ok I'll try to simplify a bit

short robin
#

so are u saying it requires less force on p to hold it?

lusty widget
#

Consider the rope section from A to B, what is the "total" weight it's supporting?

short robin
#

75kg

#

so 736N

lusty widget
#

I take the mass of C is 75kg?

short robin
#

correct

lusty widget
#

Ok, do you know the lengths w and h as well?

short robin
#

h 8

#

w = 4

lusty widget
#

Sweet alright

#

Is it possible to "split" the force in AB into a horizontal component and a vertical component?

#

Two separate, perpendicular forces

#

One force in the direction of x, one force in the direction of y

#

If you consider the angle between AB and the horizontal line

short robin
#

so force b as the verticle

#

and a as the horizontal

#

let me try

lusty widget
#

12 minutes but this channel is very very good

#

@short robin I would recommend this video if you're really stuck

short robin
#

then i can work out force AB

#

i got 732

#

which is pre much just mg

#

so i believe its wrong

#

cause i thought i knew this stuff

#

but obiously not

lusty widget
#

I get something slightly different

#

Think about it this way: the rope between A and B "contains" all of the weight mg

#

So we have a force, W (where W = mg), but it's at the angle you found

#

The horizontal component of this force would be W * cos(angle)

#

But P is downwards, so we need W * something(angle)

#

What could that something be? It's very similar to cos

short robin
#

on my diagram above

#

what is A

#

so its W * sin(angle)

lusty widget
#

I think it's W*sin(63) yeah

#

Since if you think about P, it's just the downwards component of the weight that is acting on the angled rope

#

So it can't only be mg as some of that weight is also being supported horizontally

#

Another way you can sense check that it's sin(angle) is that as the angle increases between 0 and 90ยฐ, sin(angle) also increases

#

The more angled your rope becomes, the greater the weight on the vertical component

short robin
#

right okay i get that now

#

only thing that im slightly confused about

#

is why the p downwards is sin(angle)

lusty widget
#

I think the magnitude of P is W*sin(angle), can explain my reasoning

short robin
#

yea thats correct just wondering why its sin

lusty widget
#

Your weight, W (W = mg) is supported fully between A and B

short robin
#

yep

lusty widget
#

So there is a force of W acting on point A, in the direction of AB

#

If that makes sense?

#

I can't draw it rn as I'm on my phone

short robin
#

i think i understand yea

#

so lets say

#

the maximum force on P was 395N

#

how would u find out how much mass would me attatched to prevent movement

#

is there a formula?

lusty widget
#

Do you have a copy of the question? And for which module/class is this

#

If it's an intro to engineering physics then I think I get what you're asking

#

But different modules have different answers

short robin
#

yea its an engineering physics paper

#

if the maximum braking force P was 395 [N], how much additional mass must be attached to the collar to prevent movement?

#

thats the question

#

same like diagram

#

as the one we just did

lusty widget
#

Is this an exam you're doing right now?

short robin
#

nah

#

homework questions

#

i have tutorials i can go to

#

but they clash with my other lectures

lusty widget
#

Maximum braking force doesn't say anything about the function of the force profile

#

Adding a 395N weight could be good at the max force, but would oscillate the system out of stability at lower forces

short robin
lusty widget
#

Such as it could be a straightforward "the max force is 395N so the additional mass should only balance this out"

#

Or it could be "the max force is 395N with an oscillating force profile, the additional mass should have a stable solution"

#

Since a max force of 395N can also imply that -395N is possible, potentially oscillating

short robin
#

it says to prevent movement

lusty widget
#

If you can screenshot the question and put it here maybe?

short robin
#

if the maximum braking force P was 395 [N], how much additional mass must be attached to the collar to prevent movement?

#

thats the full question

lusty widget
#

Right, is there any more context to the question

short robin
#

A mass, C, is attached to a frictionless collar with negligible mass, that is able to freely slide on a vertical pole. An unknown braking force, P, is applied to prevent the mass from moving.

lusty widget
#

There we go

#

So think about how much weight is currently pulling up on the collar

short robin
#

right

#

yea

lusty widget
#

It was about 650N

short robin
#

that was the force P

#

yea

lusty widget
#

How much more do you need to add to 395N to get ~650N?

#

Since (395N + extra weight) must balance out the 650N force

short robin
#

255

#

then divide that by gravity

#

to get mass

lusty widget
#

Yeah around that I reckon

short robin
#

like this

#

ive worked out the angles

opaque bronze
#

looks interesting

solemn leaf
# short robin

since the system is in equilibrium in y axis , you can equate weight with tensions to figure out T1 and T2 , and you know the angles , so to find P you need to do
(force in dir of P) - (force opp to P)
so T2sinalpha - T1sintheta shall be the P vector

short robin
solemn leaf
#

sure

short robin
#

what would the magnitude of Fa be

#

for these values

solemn leaf
#

hm

#

so its all in equilibrium

short robin
#

correct

solemn leaf
#

just a min

#

break everything in components of sin and cos

#

along x and y axis

#

lemme show

#

there ya go

short robin
#

um okay ill see what i can do

#

lol

solemn leaf
#

equate all +y axis forces to - y axis

#

and same for x

#

since the net is zero since its in equilibrium in both axis

short robin
#

so 200sin15 +T = FaCOS45?

short robin
solemn leaf
#

its 25 45 right

short robin
#

oh shit its 24

#

25

#

yea oop

solemn leaf
#

so Fasintheta = Tcosalpha + Fd

#

and

#

Facostheta = Fc + Tsinalpha

short robin
#

right so its

#

(9.81 * 30) + Tcos25

solemn leaf
#

yes

#

= Fa sintheta

short robin
#

right and divide by sin45

#

to give 673

#

as magnitude of Fa

solemn leaf
#

since tension is not given

#

you would have to eliminate T using both equations

short robin
#

ah ive drawn my diagram wrong

solemn leaf
#

take your time!

short robin
#

(9.81 * 30) + Tcos25

#

thats the equation i have at the moment

#

and

#

Tsin25 + 700 = Facos45

short robin
solemn leaf
#

looks good to me

short robin
#

how would i eliminate T ?

solemn leaf
#

now to eliminate T you would have to divide both eq by separating T ig

#

that would cancel T

short robin
#

so make them equal to each other?

#

and re arrange

solemn leaf
#

yeah

#

like

short robin
#

because in the second part of the quetsion i am to solve for T

solemn leaf
#

Tsintheta = x + y
Tcosalpha = t
so if you divide em you get sintheta/coslapha = x+y/t

#

an example ^

solemn leaf
#

solve for T then put in other

short robin
#

im still confused on seperating T

#

first

#

ahah

solemn leaf
#

well

#

push everything to RHS except Tsin/cos thing

short robin
#

but how do i make equal

#

when they are already equal

#

i join the equations?

solemn leaf
#

you divide

#

like

short robin
#

i have

#

Tsin25 + 700 = Facos45

#

and

solemn leaf
#

you can divide two equations and the equality still exists (unless denominator is not 0)

short robin
#

Fasin45 = 9.81 * 30 + Tcos25

solemn leaf
#

ye

#

so to separate Tcos25 you will send 9.81 * 30 thing to other side

#

and for first eq , 700 to other side

#

then divide both eq

short robin
#

right so

#

Fasin45/(9.81 * 30) = Tcos25

#

and

#

Tsin25 = Facos45 - 700

#

then divide by T

#

that cancels the T's on both sides?

solemn leaf
#

yes

#

also you meant Fasin45 - (9.81 * 30) = Tcos25

short robin
#

ah yep

#

now do i rearrange one for Fa

#

or both for Fa

#

i got Fa = 1332

#

which is not correct

solemn leaf
#

Tsin25 is lhs , Tcos25 at rhs

#

so that wont cancel

short robin
#

wait what

solemn leaf
#

you would have to write it as Facos45 - 700 = Tsin25

#

and Fasin45 - 9.81*30 = Tcos25

#

then divide 1 by 2

verbal rune
short robin
#

like the equation

solemn leaf
short robin
#

wont that cancel out Fa?

solemn leaf
#

no

#

its a whole different expression in numerator and denom

#

that would only cancel T

#

.wa (xcos45 - 700)/(xsin45-9.81*30) = tan25

median domeBOT
short robin
#

okay yea so Fa = 1157

#

oh

solemn leaf
#

1491 ๐Ÿ‘€

short robin
#

when it says to 3sf?

solemn leaf
#

what

short robin
#

3 significant figures

solemn leaf
#

um

#

you will round of till ones

#

so you have to drop 1 by rounding of till ones place of 1491
that would be 1490

short robin
#

thats not easy

#

lmao

#

now to solve for T

solemn leaf
#

the calculation made it a bit uneasy ๐Ÿ˜›

short robin
#

how to i calculate T

#

with the same formula?

#

and plug in Fa to one of them?

solemn leaf
short robin
#

they both gave me different numbers

#

.wa x(sin(25))+700 = 1490*cos(45)

median domeBOT
short robin
#

.wa x(sin(25))+700 = 1490*cos(45)

median domeBOT
short robin
#

.wa (xsin(25))+700 = 1490*cos(45)

median domeBOT
solemn leaf
#

try there#bot-commands

short robin
#

my x just gives a weird number?

short robin
#

i get 766

#

and -2700 as answers?

lusty rune
#

goodness me you guys are still at it?

tight granite
#

oh god

waxen mulch
#

I didn't even make the code

#

I grabbed it from the internet

tight granite
#

first of all

fn new_func(mut param: char) {

param should be a reference, not just taking ownership of the whole var just to print the value?!

tight granite
waxen mulch
#

I need to figure out how to ask the user to enter only one char as input

tight granite
#

as in something like getch?

waxen mulch
#

I don't have an idea

waxen mulch
#

or some like that

#

ok wait why do I have to write 4 lines just for input

#

๐Ÿ’€

#

Python:

input("Enter your name: ")

Rust:

use std::io::stdin;

fn main() {
    println!("Enter your name: ");
    let mut input_string = String::new(); //1
    stdin().read_line(&mut input_string) //2

        .expect("Failed to read line"); //4
}
tight granite
#

the things you have to do for memory safety

waxen mulch
#

bruh

#

we talking about input

#

I didn't make a big project

topaz aurora
#

What you write in Rust doesn't really usually involve taking user input from the command line

waxen mulch
#

Can't wait to learn CARBON

waxen mulch
#

how am I supposed to start

#

with this

#

I am wasting your time ik sry

tight granite
#

i suggest you learn Python first

topaz aurora
#

Around Chapter 12 is when you start to write interactive programs

waxen mulch
#

I said starter in rust not starter in programming in general

tight granite
#

or if you have already learnt Python, jumping into Rust (immediately) is not something i'd do

waxen mulch
waxen mulch
#

I have experience in C

#

HTML+css

tight granite
#

do you know what mutability is?

#

dangling pointers, etc?

#

the stack and the heap?

waxen mulch
#

idk what that exists

#

make it just immutable with const

#

I am so used to it

tight granite
#

you'll have to get used to it

waxen mulch
#

everything is immutable but if I try to reassign 6 to x=5 I will get an error

#

just doesn't make sense to me

tight granite
#

reassign 6 to x=5
what do you mean by that?

#

show an example

waxen mulch
#

you know what I mean

#

you just try to test me

tight granite
#

i don't know what you mean by reassigning 6 to x=5

#

do you mean something like

let mut x = 5;
x = 6;
waxen mulch
tight granite
#

you forgot to make it mutable

waxen mulch
#

that throws an error

#

that's what I'm saying

#

doesn't make sense to me

#

it is exactly the opposite of const

tight granite
#

i guess you can say that

#

just think of let as const

waxen mulch
#

that made things worst ngl

tight granite
#

but then there's also const in Rust

waxen mulch
#

๐Ÿ’€

#

the fact that I have to write input in a different way everytime depending on the expecting input?

#

like

#

I gotta write different things

topaz aurora
waxen mulch
#

if I wanna take an one char input

waxen mulch
#

fine

#

I don't say it is bad don't get me wrong

#

I say it is confusing for people like me who are used to Python and c++ and these types of languages

#

another thing is the i32 and stuff

#

that is confusing as hell

topaz aurora
#

Unfamilar concepts don't necessarily mean that the approach is terrible

topaz aurora
#

C++ has confusing numeric types too, so I don't get what you're trying to say

waxen mulch
#

I'm not trying to "defame" the language

waxen mulch
topaz aurora
waxen mulch
#

imagine dealing with a memory leak every 3 mins

topaz aurora
#

f32 is float
f64 is double

waxen mulch
#

nvm

#

I still don't get that => thing in functions

waxen mulch
topaz aurora
#

That specifies the return type

waxen mulch
#

I gotta specify the return type

topaz aurora
#
fn add(x: i32, y: i32) -> i32
int add(int x, int y)
tight granite
#

it's really similar to Python's typehints, no?

topaz aurora
#

Yes, it's a statically-typed language

waxen mulch
#

I mean yk

#

OH WAIT

tight granite
waxen mulch
#

no

#

in params

topaz aurora
#

You can do that

waxen mulch
#

does that allocate more space?

topaz aurora
#

Yes, it's 8 bytes

waxen mulch
#

and the i32?

#

4?

topaz aurora
#

i32 is 4 bytes

waxen mulch
#

OH

#

shi

#

but how am I gonna know which one to use

tight granite
#

usually I stick with 32 bits if I don't need anything special

waxen mulch
#

I didn't think of it stupid question

topaz aurora
#

Anything that you don't need negative numbers for, go and use usize

waxen mulch
#

unsigned?

topaz aurora
#

Yes

waxen mulch
#

ah

#

it is all starting to make sense

topaz aurora
waxen mulch
#

what doesn't make sense is how u use it

topaz aurora
#

8 bytes is pretty cheap unless you have reasons to use smaller types like u8, u16

waxen mulch
#

u8 is smaller?

topaz aurora
#

Yes, it's 1 byte

waxen mulch
#

oh it's 8

topaz aurora
#

u - unsigned
8 - 8 bits

waxen mulch
#

okay

topaz aurora
#

and so on...

waxen mulch
#

alright

#

so

#

I will try to make a simple program

#

if I face any issues I will send here

#

I made this simple thing @topaz aurora @tight granite

#
use std::io::stdin;

fn main() {
    println!("Enter message: ");

    let mut input = String::new();
    stdin().read_line(&mut input)
        .ok()
        .expect("Failed to read line");

    if input.trim() == "hello"{
        println!("Hello!");
    } else if input.trim() == "hi"{
        println!("Hi!");
    } else {
        println!("Something else happened");
    }
}
#

why do I use mut here?

topaz aurora
waxen mulch
#

right

#

okay so

#
fn five() -> i32{
    5
}

fn main() {
    let x = five();
}
``` right here
#
how can I put only 5
#
in the func
topaz aurora
#
What do you mean by "put only 5"?
waxen mulch
#
without a var
#
in other languages that would throw me an undefined error right?
topaz aurora
#
I don't see what you mean
acoustic moss
#
if theres no semicolon after the last expression it becomes the same as return 5;
waxen mulch
#
ohhhhh
#
I didn't know that
#
I thought I needed to do like let y = 5; or sum
#
okay you know what
#
I might be wrong
#
it seems kinda fun
#
