somber heath

slim nexus
#

Ohh Great, I was looking at the paper. It looks interesting i will definitely read it.

mild quartz
#

its very cool because it is fully generative

slim nexus
#

How good is one-shot learning, i believe it isn't good enough for commercial usage.

mild quartz
#

as opposed to the joint embedding architectures that are popular for self supervised learning

#

um it can be very good

#

I think 1 shot is ambitious

#

but 10 shot is becoming realistic

#

when we pretrain big vit models self supervised on all our data

#

then do linear probe 10 shot

#

we outperform the dedicated model trained on the task dataset

#

or at least get surprisingly close

#

its pretty amazing

slim nexus
#

I don't have much knowledge about one-shot, However, as per Finn et al she did mention that MAML type of models is providing a new direction.

mild quartz
#

Ohhh

#

i really dont think so

#

metalearning is all hype no gains

#

problem is inefficiency of the inner loop

#

not compute competitive

slim nexus
#

Well that's what i think too, coz one of our employee spent like 1 month on MAML based model.

#

We didn't arrive at any conclusion.

#

So, he was trying to replicate MAML for video based networks and try to map it on variety of manufacturing industrials datasets that we have.

mild quartz
#

a whole generation led astray by that finn metalearning stanford course

#

i also know someone who went down this rabbithole

#

didnt work for our digital pathology datasets either

slim nexus
#

Agreed!

mild quartz
#

big picture when it comes to vision

#

yann is the man

#

although recently

slim nexus
#

I agree, the problem is deep learning isn't going in right direction. Some say that we are heading towards a cold wave of AI again.

mild quartz
#

im beginning to have hope in generative models

#

really?

#

I really dont see that narrative

#

have these people seen palm?

#

I am starting to think that decoder only generative models might just solve perception too

slim nexus
#

Let say you have a domain specific dataset. You can create all type of variation in that domain setting. Still, after doing all the required settings you will be seeing many False Positive.

#

This just tells us that having large amount of data doesn't solve the problem.

mild quartz
#

its all in domain data?

slim nexus
#

Some say, that we need to try out something different that matrix multiplication in our network.

mild quartz
#

I don't see how that can be consistent with results like https://arxiv.org/abs/2106.04560

#

look at the 10 shot scaling curve

#

and fig 2

slim nexus
#

Just to add here, i have like 3 years of experience with computer vision + a bachelor degree only. On top of that just few papers in leading conferences.

#

!if-name-main

wise cargoBOT
#

if __name__ == '__main__'

This is a statement that is only true if the module (your source code) it appears in is being run directly, as opposed to being imported into another module. When you run your module, the __name__ special variable is automatically set to the string '__main__'. Conversely, when you import that same module into a different one, and run that, __name__ is instead set to the filename of your module minus the .py extension.

Example

# foo.py

print('spam')

if __name__ == '__main__':
    print('eggs')

If you run the above module foo.py directly, both 'spam'and 'eggs' will be printed. Now consider this next example:

# bar.py

import foo

If you run this module named bar.py, it will execute the code in foo.py. First it will print 'spam', and then the if statement will fail, because __name__ will now be the string 'foo'.

Why would I do this?

โ€ข Your module is a library, but also has a special case where it can be run directly
โ€ข Your module is a library and you want to safeguard it against people running it directly (like what pip does)
โ€ข Your module is the main program, but has unit tests and the testing framework works by importing your module, and you want to avoid having your main code run during the test

@quaint oysterthe 2nd person will not be able to merge until they resolve the conflict

@quaint oyster you create issues and assign them to only 1 person and you don't make random pull requests without being assigned

quaint oyster
#

i see

woeful salmon
# quaint oyster i see

as i said you have issues for your feature requests, bug fixes , etc and you assign them to specific people and you ignore all other pull requests from people who weren't assigned

quaint oyster
#

I know

woeful salmon

that's impossible

#

you can't have a repo without an owner

then he's dumb and you shouldn't contribute

woeful salmon

@rugged tundra learn c then

#

rather than c++

#

for game dev c++ is definitely better but if you just wanna delve into lower level programming then c would just be simpler

#

@quaint oyster python and c are much different then you'd think its not just different syntax

thin finch
#

I use c++ to write some Monte Carlo like simulation codes, which had very expensive computations. And will take months to simulate.

woeful salmon
#

@quaint oyster the first language is mostly supposed to make you get into programming and passionate about it and most people will just quit if they learn assembly first

#

as its really just a pain

woeful salmon

c++ is oop

c is not

c# is even more oop

And if you are working on tensorflow models, you will hit the c++ bedrock of python. You console will start whispering its ancient lullabies.

woeful salmon

first language i think python or js or even go maybe are gr8 as they are easy to write and show you how powerfull programming can be

agile plank
#

i thought i knew stuff aputlly i dont

woeful salmon

so it can be gr8 motivation for beginners

slim nexus

with some of their own changes

if you're actually used to working in vim scrolling in vim is actually 100 times more convenient and has 100 times more options and ways to do it

tho again i say scrolling but that's the last thing we do in vim
