In France you sometimes merge years?
A levels in the UK and some places in Africa
IB is much harder then A levels
In the UK French undergrads are sometimes younger then UK undergrads
Except for the SAT
Not much harder, the two are fairly comparable
The same is true in Scotland, they start uni at 17
Did the ACT but not the SAT
But they do 4y bachelors
You sure? I'd say that IB is far better when it comes to preparing you for the college workload.
A - Levels were a joke but maybe it was just my school😅
Oooh! We got beaches like this in Lamu, Kenya.

Is it humid there?

Once I was on a train in Switzerland and there was a woman sitting by herself crying following a phone call. An old dude got up and walked over to her. I thought he was going to console her but instead he told her to keep the noise down and went back to his seat lol

Hey all 👋
@zenith radish
^ @amber raptor how do you feel about this?
So wrong
the most used bundler in production for node is against node having a standard library xD
'We're #1!'
Don’t care
ik and i do agree it would be nice to have an extended node standard library but not to change the existing one too :3 the few module they already have integrated like fetch , path, fs, crypto , etc are actually quite good 🙂
we just need more

fun fact, speed clicking your mouse at 20 cps for an hour burns 67 calories, as a programmer i know this
the world can't go on without factories
Works if u use an auto-clicker 😕 ?
it's like binary, you could take as high as a language, like python but if binary doesn't exist you can't program python.
binary = factories, python = programmer jobs
You want freedom? There, you're free to be dumb - @pallid hazel 2022
ingorance and arrogance is the downfall of youth
is like saying look at a 5year olds problems... then look how those problems evolve into a 13 year old, then 23, 30.. etc..
I'm gonna bet this convo is going to go to arguing if capitalism is better than communism
because it feels like that's the root of the problem
Just a quick question.
if num >= 10:
print("Number is not between 1-10, please try again...")
input("Enter a new number from 1-10: ")
else:
if num <= 10:
print(f"Your number is {num} and it is between 1-10")```
For the code above, how will i make it when they put an input it resets and does the whole function again?
I feel like its an easy fix but i think im stupid
;-;
use while True in the loop and break if the input is correct
while True:
num = int(input("Enter a number between 1-10: "))
if num >= 10:
print("Number is not between 1-10, please try again...")
else:
if num <= 10:
print(f"Your number is {num} and it is between 1-10")
break```
i'll keep asking the user to enter something forever, if it meets my requirements i stop asking
how did you do that tho
SO COOL
OMG
lol
while True:"
couldu use while False:
What would taht do?
ohh
so it will run the indented code if the intended code becomes true, else, if it is the true int inputed, it will break?
if the value in while <bool>: is True, it runs the code yes
8.2. The while statement
The while statement is used for repeated execution as long as an expression is true:
while_stmt ::= "while" assignment_expression ":" suite
["else" ":" suite]
``` This repeatedly tests the expression and, if it is true, executes the first suite; if the expression is false (which may be the first time it is tested) the suite of the `else` clause, if present, is executed and the loop terminates.
A [`break`](https://docs.python.org/3/reference/simple_stmts.html#break) statement executed in the first suite terminates the loop without executing the `else` clause’s suite. A [`continue`](https://docs.python.org/3/reference/simple_stmts.html#continue) statement executed in the first suite skips the rest of the suite and goes back to testing the expression.
while HRLO77.age == 13:
while my age is 13 it says im 13
what does what
huh
what how do you use while then like i know its a repeated execution repeated
while tells the program to run the code inside it while the value next to it is True
so it always has to be true?
yes, for it to run the code
Or can it be false? If so, what can it be used for.
!e while False:
print('worked')
@plain rose :warning: Your eval job has completed with return code 0.
[No output]
see? it doesn't run the code
Ok.
So it always has to be a statement that is true and knowingly that it will work?
Also, how can I implement forloops and stuff
Are you able to join vc and tell me? Or something?
Or are you busy...
7.9. The break statement
break_stmt ::= "break"
``` [`break`](https://docs.python.org/3/reference/simple_stmts.html#break) may only occur syntactically nested in a [`for`](https://docs.python.org/3/reference/compound_stmts.html#for) or [`while`](https://docs.python.org/3/reference/compound_stmts.html#while) loop, but not nested in a function or class definition within that loop.
It terminates the nearest enclosing loop, skipping the optional `else` clause if the loop has one.
If a [`for`](https://docs.python.org/3/reference/compound_stmts.html#for) loop is terminated by [`break`](https://docs.python.org/3/reference/simple_stmts.html#break), the loop control target keeps its current value...
if the code is in a loop, break stop the current loop and runs the next code
wdym
like when i had the break in the code u sent
It only broke once the code was satisfied?
!e ```
for i in range(4):
for i in range(10):
print('this will print once')
break
print('this won't print')

I agree with LP.
comparing a non materialistic thing with materialistic does not make sense 🥴
since when did HR turn into your parents
you would have to care overal of the person, and their opinions.. if you dont care about the person why would you care about their opinions?
this convo.. i just keep hearing how 'snowflake' the younger generation is.
Younger generation isn’t snowflake
Every generation is called a snowflake according to the generations before it
to take something so personally, and not address it with the person or persons directly.. and try to get someone else to solve it with "conciquences" is snowflake to me.
When it comes to work stuff, bringing it up can run the risk of getting fired for it
wdym "work stuff", a lot of that is protected by law
Partially
You can be fired or let go without reason
At least in "Right to work" states
What about letting the workers decide if their managers are valuable or not? Wouldn't they have better insight and in turn better management?
workplaces laws, the without reason is a loophole most people can sue over with proof of retaliation.. if you have the time and resources to do it.. otherwise yes it sucks
did you mean at-will states?
Probably. It's been awhile since I've looked properly
Need to re-look at the right to work thing

got it so if I convert from KJ time to my time it will take me anywhere in between 43days to 1.33 years...
Man I wish I could unmute
very interesting discussion, bit too advanced for me
Out of curiosity ,what spurred this debate?
Lp is wild
LOL
@zenith radish you just want everyone to fail is what it sounds like
If only I could unmute
my brain this whole time
Oh you’re late to that message, it was prompted by something you said
@zenith radish
@mild quartz hard agree
They deserve to live with it, but should be able to overcome from it
what the hell man
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
@mild quartz do you have a recommendation for getting a good foundation of university level math knowledge for free online?
(this has nothing to do with the convo)
take all of the classes
calc 1-3, lin alg, diffeq, analysis (1 and 2), algebra (1 and 2), complex analysis, functional analysis, probability, number theory
find a full course on university website and do it
i like harvey mudd for analysis (https://math.hmc.edu/su/math131/), mit opencourseware is good for calc
idk about others
good enough to start with
I am taking a break from uni to work as a dev
because corona
thx for the link
good thing libgen is a thing :)
@mild quartz is Real analysis I a good starting point?
have you had calc and linear algebra?
and maybe a basic proofs course
usually called "intro to abstract math"
analysis 1 is the first "real math course"
my educational background doesn't map super well to your system I think
so it is very different and hard compared to calc and high school math
it is very rigorous proof-based math
my knowledge is pretty spotty in terms of being good at proofs
but probably with lots of gaps
try to find an intro to abstract math or basic number theory class
to get a feel for proofs
I'll just try and see yeah
dont give up too easily because this class is brutal for 80% of math majors
but it separates the men from the boys lol
for me the main goal is to be self sufficient in learning about maths
will try it out and get back to you
if you get through these classes thoroughly you will be better than lots of math majors who dont ever really get them
it's like me doing cs50 and doing stuff on my own makes me a better coder than a lot of BS/MS graduates lol
yeah exactly
do you mind if I ping you periodically if I have questions?
yeah I am in it too, but I haven't really gotten started because I was looking for work first
I have no super concrete goal
cool cool
i was just asking so i could suggest courses that might be relevant to certain goals
besides having solid enough fundamentals to not be limited by my lack of mathematical knowledge
when I want to code
this math level is super excessive for typical programming
but it will give you superpowers in certain domains like graphics, ml, etc
not necessarily for work
but I want to be able to talk about it intelligently
beyond stuff like 2 min papers
where someone pre digests it for you
i think its a great idea
i came from the opposite direction (math+physics -> cs+ml) and everything i do relies on the math background
for me the teaching model at my uni/college just really didn't work for me
same actually
i struggled with motivation
i think wasn't clear what my long term goal was
and I'm better at doing stuff like it on my own
but discovering ml was amazing for me, really clarified things
finally was motivated to work lol
called with flag x set
@silent sequoia
if you're talking about a boolean command line arg
yeah you just say flag x set
a flag is a specific type of command line arg
which is boolean
that's fine
@waxen hawk Check out the #voice-verification channel. That'll tell you what you need to know

English:
The Year 2038 problem (also known as Y2038, Y2K38, or the Epochalypse) is a time formatting bug in computer systems with representing times after 03:14:07 UTC on 19 January 2038.
The problem exists in systems which measure Unix time — the number of seconds elapsed since the Unix epoch (00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970) — and store it in a signed 3...

Good, 'bout you?

@rugged root - Got some more computers for you to check
That sounds more fun than what I was trying to do. I have a small pile of HDDs from the various computers I've gutted. There were a couple that completely failed but in my idiocy I didn't mark which ones those were
Then there were a couple that, despite being 2.5" HDDs, didn't fit in the drive tray in the laptop
They're like.... 4 mm too big
Why whatever do you mean
I have SSDs in the new machines
I just needed to slap together a travel one
Currently just waiting on our MSP to wrap it up so I can pass it on to the person who needs it
That's not all the HDDs, btw
Just what I have in that pile

I did sum += to an array element and sum became a string or array or I have no clue
so I had to type cast it took me a while to find Number

return 1 + var
foo("hello")

hi opal
voice chat here
You know I have to send 50 messages here
Yes. The voice gate system is in place to weed out the voice trolls, who seem to be, by nature, inherently impatient.
Still I will get there
Mm. It's not an overly difficult process. My advice to people is to let it happen organically.
hello @ocean beacon
hi
Plenty of conversation at times on here and elsewhere.
i think there was yesterday so i just listened
or maybe it was the day before
i've been learning python with dr. angela yu's udemy class and practicing on codewars, it's been a lot of fun

That Everyone person is one, specific person.
Also, in the event you are aiming to @ everyone, that would be everyone on the server. 326,000,394 people.
@distant mesa It wouldn't work. But it would be a lot of people if it did.
what's going on
you’re wild
