The emacs version of this is called tramp, which seems to be just as functional.
I think a good use-case is if you keep getting a broken connection, for whatever reason... you can safely edit locally to your heart's content then when you save it's saved back to the server.

Try if not a % b:
Depending on what you're doing, Numpy may be applicable and you could get really zoomy. Throw in Numba and it can get scary.
Written with the right sorts of patterns, they're a very effective combination.
If you find yourself using any for loops at all in straight Python, you've already lost in a footrace against Numpy.
At least with datasets large enough for Numpy and especially Numba's spin-up times to be worth it. Straight Python for very small jobs could sneak in under the load times.
In which case, what you you really care about speed?
