I was using lists where I was because they're easier to manipulate the elements within them.

Lists are mutable. Tuples are not.

In order to update b, I would have to point b at a new object.

Rather than modify the existing object that it points to.

Which is what I did for a.

I edited the list object in memory, itself, that a points to.

You try that with tuple objects in memory and they complain.

But for b, the new tuple is not the same tuple as the original
