[I] don't use doom :P
yeah this
I'm not really telling not to use Doom lmao
i was getting this
I have a very fancy note taking configuration that looks like this
.
@zenith radish drop your configs again π
thats pretty much what im working with
Oo alright
xDD
@zenith radish icymi
There lmao
Very fancy
Please permition to speak
!voice-verify
hi i am having a problem creating virtual envirment showing this error
It's just note-taking
install python first
i had already
The code blocks are monospace at least
We can hear him?
!e
from pathlib import Path
print(Path("/home/username/") / ".bashrc")
@woeful salmon :white_check_mark: Your eval job has completed with return code 0.
/home/username/.bashrc
π noice
i need some advice π
i wanna make an esolang called amoglang, which language do i use, rust, c++ or python?
c++ of those, I'd say.
the impl<'a> ticks me off everytime
If you stream c, is it still c?
and the file keeps running in the background
Or is it stream?
i thought i read that it doesn't
The file is opened and then closed. The optional parameters have the same meaning as in open().
Also @zenith radish I'm pretty sure I spent months to get to this configuration
Worth it though
@rugged root social experiment -> stream your screen
@sinful igloo If you're wondering why you can't talk, check out the #voice-verification channel
^
I can verify Tommorow
I've used Doom Emacs for 2-ish months
Right, just wondering why you were joining then leaving over and over
if you do .read() it will keep running as .read_text() is the one closing it
I switched to Emacs last year November/December
i wanna switch to emacs now
!docs pathlib.Path.read_text
Path.read_text(encoding=None, errors=None)```
Return the decoded contents of the pointed-to file as a string:
```py
>>> p = Path('my_text_file')
>>> p.write_text('Text file contents')
18
>>> p.read_text()
'Text file contents'
``` The file is opened and then closed. The optional parameters have the same meaning as in [`open()`](https://docs.python.org/3.10/library/functions.html#open "open").
New in version 3.5.
chunky
It's a good way for you to never get to
try:
file = open("file.json")
do something
finally:
file.close()
if you don't like with do this ^
@sinful igloo why are you joining and leaving repeatedly?
Leaving wont get you access :/
I want to talk
^
Oh, Hemlock already mentioned it sorry π
If you continue it'll result in a voice ban or a server ban depending on how much of a fit you pitch
Ok
Have you read #voice-verification ?
Stop builling me
I don't hear the enter/leave bells, odd
Yes
Dont talk like that, he's the admin of this server.
its not fine :/
I'm not sure, I haven't really touched any settings
I donβt know what
Just so long as we're clear
Sorry
Maybe silent mode?
I think I will
Oh my god
All joining and leaving repeatedly will do is annoy people.
Sorry sir
im on dnd
I'm on mobile though
They already have 50 messages yeah.
@zenith radish π
Everyone
am i uhh bothering u with pings innit?
@zenith radish Don't IRC servers tend to be slow-moving
def read_text(self, encoding=None, errors=None):

under the hood
At least that's how I see it as a zoomer
Depends.
Admin can I be permitted to do an voice reveal
When you hit the criteria, sure
hemlock too ^ π¦
Not before that
If you meet the criteria, yes
Ok sir
We don't make exceptions to the voice-gate, sorry.
Wanna see a neck beard?
Clearing my doubt
@zenith radish Can I be a neckbeard if I can't grow facial hair
Just glue some hairs on to your neck π
no?
Hahahahahaha

I'm quite willing to bet I'm the only person who uses Emacs in my uni, so yes, I guess I am a neckbeard
Hello
Who does login codes
Who does what now?
not going to be rude but uhh this is kinda like grinding for messages for access to vc
They already meat the message requirement, just not the time requirement.
I want get the experience from people who have already done it
ah my bad, didnt know
-> i highly doubt
what login mate?
Login code
huh?
Like and username and password
so an oauth?
i know alot of ppl who use vim or emacs at home but use an ide on work or school
which framework
I have an call
yo whatttt
You'd like to implement a login system @sinful igloo ?
oauth and username/password are 2 different things
oauth aka using another login method
like google
username/password has local session storage
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvstbO787Qo
^ if you wanna store passwords plz do it in a proper way xD
thanks for that!!

@fleet jasper Why are you repeatedly joining and leaving?
You will be banned if you continue.

Wait what? When did they change this? π
Doesn't this break a tonne of things in the bot.
One final point: Now letβs remember that the internet is 1-to-many. If 1 million people download that 1GB this month, my cost with @cloudflare R2 this way rounds up to 13Β’. With @awscloud S3 itβs $59,247.52.
THAT is why people are losing their minds over this.
131
563
Also @zenith radish to answer your question, yes, you can have some other entry point
just call it in main
@rugged root tl;dr Cloudflare R2 offers a cheaper alternative to Amazon's S3
At least how I read it
I mean if the tweet above is correct, it's a whole lot cheaper
Joe would likely know
Choppy internet, sorry bout that
I'll go watch some House M.D.

String Interpolation~
f strings r my favorite
I'm gonna act like I know what this stuff is
Concatination
(fromdate[2]+','+fromdate[1]+','+fromdate[0])
.format() Method
"{},{},{}".format(fromdate[2],fromdate[1],fromdate[0])
F-strings
f"{fromdate[2]},{fromdate[1]},{fromdate[0]}"
interesting stuff
age = 20
# string concatenation
print("your age is " + str(age))
# giving multiple values to print which it by default joins with a space in between
print("your age is", age)
# c style string formatting
print("your age is %d" %age)
# str.format() method
print("your age is {}".format(age))
# f-strings
print(f"your age is {age}")
its different ways to format strings
https://docs.python.org/3/library/string.html#format-specification-mini-language
^^^^ its called a mini language even
I know strings only as in string theory lol
das fine
string theory is nice
yes
I can't say that about any code I've written cuz I never did that but I had that a couple times when I was starting to figure out how to do 3d modelling
o-o i'm talking about real life application of string theory
Wait, that's a thing?
hold up what
what
I- what
it's fine :>
soooo a while ago I looked into vacuum tubes and now my weird ass brain wants me to build a vacuum tube lel
i feel so dumb now lol
I do all the time
string theory is a theoretical framework in which the point-like particles of particle physics are replaced by one-dimensional objects called strings.
π i did too but i forgot
lol
hi
hola
......
i feel as if that sounds scary
@whole bear brother
dont take it seriously @modern tundra
stares at tsar bomba
the tsar bomba was a hydrogen bomb
but still that's dangerous as well
actually more dangerious than nuclear fision bomb
what about posidon
wha
nvm
no clue wtf that is
The Poseidon (Russian: ΠΠΎΡΠ΅ΠΉΠ΄ΠΎΠ½, "Poseidon", NATO reporting name Kanyon), previously known by Russian codename Status-6 (Russian: Π‘ΡΠ°ΡΡΡ-6), is an autonomous, nuclear-powered, and nuclear-armed unmanned underwater vehicle under development by Rubin Design Bureau, capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear payloads.
The Poseidon is one of the six new Russian strategic weapons announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 1 March 2018.[3]
OOOO

ye idrc about that stuff ngl
looking at the IAEA publications list is oddly a lot more interesting to me
lol
why am I far more entertained by designing a fucking PWR than watch a movie

PWR
so we saying cherynobl stuff
im sorry if i thought that
the chernobyl plant has RBMK 1000s
Light water graphite moderated reactor
aka prone to violant unplanned disassembly and combustion
or in normal fucking words: melting down and exploding
Those are my favorite phrases. Sugar coating horrifying things
there were 2 significant incidents with rmbks before, 1 in leningrad and the other in chernobyl block 1
yup the same exact plant that exploded in 1986
same.
it's perfect
i feel as if thats making me feel things
that ain good
a t a l l
heyyyyy y'all wanna know why chernobyl decided to irradiate the whole world?
because there was water
below the reactor?
no
there was no steam explosion
I need you to know a couple terms:
- moderator (slows down and makes nuclear fision much much much more likely)
- coolant
- control rod
- scram
since rmbks aren't water moderated when the water boils off you have something called a positive void coifficient, basically the reaction speeds up cuz the water can both act as a moderator and neutron poison
so when they tried to conduct that test they ended up making the reactor go super critical and so they hit the scram button which shoved all the control rods in at the massive speed of half a meter per second, very slow
and those control rods have graphite at their tips, which is a goddamn moderator
So when they got inserted the bottom part of the reactor heated up so high the oxygen seperated from the hydrogen and proceeded to combust leading to VIOLANT AND UNPLANNED DISASSEMBLY
what did you find?
(i really do apologise if i am not listening)
its just im doing computational thinking
(and irradiate the whole world cuz why the goddamn fuck not)
aka proccessing what VC 0 says,what you said and other things
@rugged root did i say what computational thinking is properly above
i do hope i have
nvm
the USSR (Russia) probably did it as an experiment on purpose to see what would happen.
no way
I would so totally not be surprised if it's true
they're not going to risk millions of lives just for that
y u p
i mean come on
bruh they had about 8 million people die in gulags you think they give a shit about ukraine??
they're litterally going to kill themselves in a experiment
@wraith kernel their lack of concern for millions of lives they had already taken is also legendary.
as well as other people
exactly, that's why area bombing doesn't work on totalitarian states
hey guys
hola
i prob wouldnt exist if a absolute explosion happened
again: the kremlin don't give a shit lmao

wait 2 starts from 3 @rugged root
how so?
Some of its components probably
I know military equipment requires some heavy coding
wait
???
now that i think about it ive learnt something
Like what exactly?
I would add assert len(arr) >= 0 to make sure your array doesnβt have a negative number of elements lol
traffic lights have coding in it
think about it
it loops again and again
and doesnt stop
Yea
red , yellow , green , yellow , red , yellow , green , yellow , red

Well done, Clari
So I am thinking to learning Machine Learning using Python. I will also learn some basic SQL. So, do I need to improve in any other programming language. Or anything else that increase my chance of getting job?
is there any spanish native who can help me with my homework please :p
you need html and css either ways injected through javascript or not
Although if you're using frames you can minimize the need for those
But they're still part of the HTML 5 triangle
CSS zen garden is a useful tool too
i look at tutorials more for the process rather than the application they are making in the tutorial
its fun to just look at how people think while coding a particular thing and how they structure their code
problem of javascript you cant run it just call it
wdym?
you can run it in your browser console too just fine
You can run it locally. Just make a dummy HTML page and load it through that
Right
and for any other language you need a compiler or interpreter
Although I prefer deno with opine and react
i tried deno yesterday actually
Technically you can
think i just like node more for now
cython
Numba
I like deno better because I like typescript better
javascript is the parent
I'm not sure what you mean by boot it
Like on a kernel level?
It's not really made for that
if you like typescript you automatically like javascript too
as typescript is just javascript but.... more
btw do you know you can use that still in your browser
without needing jquery?
wrong screenshot lol
i dont think so
Hello
hi
is specified for jq
But also goodbye as food is done cooking π
thats all
$0 is your current selected element
$(".class_name") is normal jquery
you can use these in browsers without having jquery
i think in every browser except for the piles of garbage callled IE and safari
I'll take an assert over a raise.
def some_function(x):
assert x, "error, no x provided"
pass
or
def some_function(x):
if not x:
raise Exception("Error, no x provided")
pass
which one is better @rugged root ?
i think browser have jq
they might i 'm just saying the site you're inspecting doesn't need to have it
although the way i usually do it at work is
def some_function(x):
try:
x
except SomeException as se:
logging.exception(se)
because that's the agreed-upon best-practice
sem
Not the way I personally would like to do it, but the team has voted on it.
Ψ³ΩΨ§Ω ΨΉΩΩΩΩ
Good argument from this original thread:
https://mail.python.org/archives/list/python-ideas@python.org/thread/T26DR4BMPG5EOB3A2ELVEWQPYRENRXHM/
I was actually thinking exactly the opposite: this would more useful in
production than in testing.When I'm testing, tests build on each other. I should know that the
inner parts work, and I should be testing specific aspects of the outer
parts. If I don't have confidence in those inner parts, then I need to
write more tests against them. If I don't "know" where the data comes
from in my assertions, then my tests are trying to test too much at
once.On the other hand, weird things happen in production, and my first
reaction to "this shouldn't happen unless there's a bug" are is to start
looking in the logs at how we got there. These power assertions are
like a retroactive or JIT logging mechanism (in the sense that I may not
have logged enough detail), or a sort of first order run-time debugger
that shows me what's relevant at the point of the failure.As far as the extra cost goes, how does that cost compare to the full
stack trace I already get from the exception being raised?
for me i just find pytest much simpler both to read and write tests in
The net-cost of these power asserts would probably (just a guess) be lower than having a bunch expensive logging everywhere in your code
Why do asserts not belong in production code, but log.debugs do (even though they're 100% of the times disabled)?
π just get pipenv
I use conda-forge because I know it works and it hasn't betrayed me yet, unlike, say, Apple Maps.
NumPy has a lot of asserts: https://sourcegraph.com/search?q=context:global+repo:^github\.com/numpy/numpy%24+assert&patternType=literal
Sourcegraph is a web-based code search and navigation tool for dev teams. Search, navigate, and review code. Find answers.
I am trying to pivot back to pip, though.
Mostly because that's what most of the hosted jupyter solutions use. AFAIK only Datalore uses Conda.
π meanwhile there's ppl who write scripts that download and compile the version of python you tell it to and makes a venv with your prefered modules with latest minor versions
100% not me....
and then there's me, where I just say "screw it, dockerize everything"
I'm probably wrong then, fair enough
i still wouldn't share that script tho cuz it only works with my specific setup cuz microsoft can't make it simple to use their compiler and i don't like using their provided developer versions of cmd, powershell
I get the point of being restrictive with asserts, but I must say I like the comparison with log.debug.
It is for testing but good to see even in production when a bug is ran into. For me the option is either "assert that asserts an assumption I have" or "obscure bug with complexing error because I made an incorrect assumption"
Yes it is
what is the exact terminology?
I like to use asserts for input validation mostly.
Discord partner
Where I want the script to fail if the input is wrong.
Really punish the user for screwing up.
ok and how many types of servers are there? is there a category for verified servers as well?
Yes I am that sadistic sometimes.
I would prefer ValueError there. I try to use it when making sure things are in an correct state (if I need to clean up), or I expect something from a network request (which is supposed to be correct)
But that involves more typing. What is this, Java?
/sarcasm
I'll probably use it less and less for input validation now that we finally have the green light to use FastAPI in production.
Which has validation built-in
I'm always tempted to write multi-line error messages.
But they're really ugly on console π¦
Like, because of the indentation?

```py
These are backticks, not quotes. Check this out if you can't find the backtick key.
*Run Python code and get the results.
This command supports multiple lines of code, including code wrapped inside a formatted code
block. Code can be re-evaluated by editing the original message within 10 seconds and
clicking the reaction that subsequently appears.
We've done our best to make this sandboxed, but do let us know if you manage to find an
