Here in Ohio a bunch of companies just lost power, so a big issue for me right now.
Hello @whole bear
What's up?
Nice. What kind?
Oh he left. Nevermind.

LOL
Ooooh. Something like pingpong.
Pong is a table tennis–themed arcade video game, featuring simple two-dimensional graphics, manufactured by Atari and originally released in 1972. It was one of the earliest arcade video games; it was created by Allan Alcorn as a training exercise assigned to him by Atari co-founder Nolan Bushnell, but Bushnell and Atari co-founder Ted Dabney we...

Quipu (also spelled khipu) are recording devices fashioned from strings historically used by a number of cultures in the region of Andean South America. Knotted strings were used by many other cultures such as the ancient Chinese and native Hawaiians, but such practices should not be confused with the quipu, which refers only to the Andean devic...

"Are Our Children Learning Enough About Whales" 😆
Hello 👋
What is going on?
Imagine all those trees that became paper, Hemlock. They deserve better.
I am crying lol
I actually coded a new bot to encourage people.
It is hosting on replit's cloud.
But there is something interesting about it which it that if someone types one of these words: "sad", "depressed", "unhappy", "angry", "miserable", "depressing".
It triggers it to send one of these responses: "Cheer up!",
"Hang in there.",
"You are a great person / bot!".
But the problem is if someone is saying something like: This is really sad I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else.
That will be stupid of the bot to say anything lol.
The brain enjoys resonance. Happy people enjoy happy music. Sad people enjoy sad music.
Post office, box.
Was that a point for me?
It was.
Hmm
Chipper optimism, while often inspiring, can feel like a slap in the face to someone not in the right mindset to appreciate it.
No offence, but when someone tells me to 'cheer up', it's the most irritating thing in the world 😄
that's the assembly
Sounds about right.
@somber heath would you like to check it out in my test server?
Thanks, I'm good. 🙂
As a concept, a bot that cheers people up, I love it.
Thanks
Possibly. I'll try and scrounge some up when I can brain
Hey Opal 👋
o/
Also are does servers that offer free nitro Legit I don't feel so.
Like why would someone buy me nitro lol?
So would someone like to know how I make repl.it make it run for me forever?
Like if someone wants to host a bot online for free.
No, most likely they are not legit.
ikr
But there are soooo many people that believe this sort of shit.
I don't believe you can. You would probably need to buy a vps they are very cheap though.
I am hosting a bot online for free forever lol.
And if you see something called Heroku please don't use it for bots.
Heroku is good if you pay for it.
I tried it but it is such a waste of time.
At least for free.
Not currently to my knowledge. He was for the Python Core Developer sprint last year, but didn't really interact with the public much. Which is fair, he would have been swarmed
I mean sure but repl.it is easy as you don't need to do anything that is running on your local pc.
Oh lol
We can.
It is a new update.
@flint skiff Your best bet would be to buy a cheap vps for like $5 a month.
I can make it work.
There isn't a lot of free hosting options that are good
If you want I can tell you how to use it.
True
YES! They’re just fantastic
This last week, I’ve been watching quite a few of them
You know better than I do surely 😄
Just kidding
Welp, accidental questionmark

Eivl is a truly interesting character

Would it be possible to do this in some way, or is it impossible for keywords?
@honest pier

Hmmmmm
probably just modiofy the source and compile it

I am sooo sleepy, it is not even 10 pm yet.
Would someone like to recommend some sort of an idea for a discord bot?
A discord bot idea generator bot.
What sort of functions?
@somber heath
Oh lol
Any other ideas?
That would be cool.
@hollow haven
Are there any tutorials on youtube for it?
!e ```py
def yeet(yeetee):
global yeetee
del yeetee
x = 5
yeet(x)
print(x)
doesn't work because of how variables work
Sad
try global?
@icy axle :x: Your eval job has completed with return code 1.
001 | File "<string>", line 2
002 | SyntaxError: name 'yeetee' is parameter and global
One of my friends that actually told me about this server, made a pictionary bot.
And a quiz bot.
I might have a recommendation for the yeet function if you are gonna work on one.
Your wedding? 🎉 Congratulations
I guess you can make an embed?
Can anyone explain git and github?
Github is a platform where coders share their code with everyone.
What's with the name endings?
i know that, the version control things
Oh lol.
what is pull, push, merge and etc...
have you looked at git's tutorial?
links please
Is there a youtube video?
I will open my mic can someone confirm that there is no background noise?
why don't you do an audio test @flint skiff
In settings?
@hollow haven did you listen to that playlist though 👀
https://git-scm.com/docs/gittutorial @plush willow
I think I have way too much background noise.
is commiting = putting checkpoints?
kinda, yeah
I think github can be better if it has some what of an IDE system?
why would they do that though
they can't compare to any actual IDE
it will just be worse
I mean it would make it better.
Because clerd! ☁️
not really lol
How will it be worse lol?
The editors I use have pretty good integration with github already. I don't really see what github was to gain from making an editor
i didn'tt say worse, i said it's not better
hmm
That makes sense
Has anyone have the links to the Lost Votes repo?
Oh also have you guys heard about microsoft buying discord?
^ those talks apparently ended
Discord turned away, will open an IPO
Oh really?
I didn't know I guess LOL
I had signed up for access in the week it got launched and I still haven’t got access
I actually stopped working on the youtubedl bot btw
I just felt it was pointless.
LMFAO
Akarys had access to it iirc
Even joe has
He says it’s reallly good and I am reallly jealous now lol
I just got tired of youtubedl and just started on the encourage bot I was talking about.
Nice, using python?
/vote b, c, a
Oh like the trivia feature of dank-memer?
It is like a poll, for voting
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Are there more people like Da-Baby that have a lot of memes?
. /me
Oh you meant the prefix nvm
LOL sorry
all good 🙂
I was asking about the yeet command
Are there people like DaBaby
?
Like can someone name some?
That’s not possible with normal python. VCO edited the Python source code to change the name of del
I will make a bot that will include all the memes basically.

refer back to this if you think you're a bad person hemlock
Would someone be generous to join my server?
Who plays Valorant?
I can't even play it, my laptop is shit and it is not on console yet.
It's also a game people used to play, where they tie a conker to a piece of string, and try to break the other person's.
its an fps game, I don't think it will be on consoles
warzone is on console.
can't they not make it so there is cosplay?
I know there are some games that let you use a mouse and keyboard. Not sure if shooters are on that list
crossplay on fps games between desktop and console will always result in an unfair advantage to those not on console or using a k+m
but you are not meant to use a keyboard/mouse in a console, lol
warzone doesn't require aiming, so it can be on console
Meh
I mean people doo use it.
If they don't want to allow it, they won't support those inputs
I just know that some do
alright
You can play Fortnite with a mouse and keyboard on a console.
r6 also you don't get to flick a lot
What is flick lol?
I mean, like awp flicks in csgo
nop, but I watch my friends play
at what rank though
gaaaah, I'm fucking up something major with this dictionary iter and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong

well there you go

i used to
I've never used defaultdict before
I thought of buying but csgo itself is too much for me
@hollow haven can I get share screen permission?
its ez, basically you tell the dict what should be the default value for a key if it does not exist
wait you're assigning everything to the same submatrix, no? @hollow haven
what do you want to stream?
I thought I'm not since I'm using the index to move through the submatrix?
OH WAIT
FUCK
MOTHERFUCKER
jeez calm, lol
😔
I don't want to stream anything atm, but I sometimes have questions regarding my code, and I have to use hastebin everytime...
Maybe use a defaultdict(dict)?
can you show me an example?
defaultdict(defualtdict(int)) lul
Well that's normal. hastebin the better way to go about it
Alright sure.
It would be defaultdict(lambda: defaultdict(int))

Buy netflix instead hahahaha
I actually have around 6$ on steam which I earned through selling csgo cases
I don't watch a lot of stuff
and I do have netflix already but not on my pc
how will that help me
You can run stuff on the cloud.
Like bots etc
Actually maybe buy a course to some new coding language.
I already pay for a DO droplet monthly
instead of doing str(index+1) why not just enumerate(vote, 1)?
cause I forgot the syntax for it :3c
also why str tho 👀
because the numbers are placeholders

wow what's goin on in there so many people
Opinion: approval voting is better than ranked-choice.
what's approval voting?
Select all the options you approve of, each gets one vote, the option with the most votes in the end wins.
oooh, that is interesting.... imma implement that first
Approval of what?
Political candidates, pizza toppings, etc. 😄
it is pretty trivial and it is easier for people to do
Sure, but reason for RCV is giving people agency
We had a referendum in the UK on the single-transferable vote (they called it the alternative vote). The main parties managed to successfully quash it by presenting it as too complicated for people to understand
Like for political candidate, if you hand me a ballot with Bernie Sanders, Biden, Trump, Jeb Bush, I’ll check both sanders and Biden but I don’t want Biden, I’ll just tolerate him
And thus strategic voting comes back into play.
But to a much lesser extent than first-past-the-post. At least you can reasonably vote for Sanders.
Less but still there because you make a decision of “I could vote for candidate I tolerate but that somewhat nullifies my really want choice”
It turns out all non-trivial voting systems have some degree of strategic voting. I think approval voting is a good compromise.
RCV slightly more agency then approval
I think I'll do both
Approval for the simpler situations where it's just what the most people are okay with and people can be okay with multiple
and then RCV for when a specific decision needs to be made and it might be contentious
Approval seems fine for many things except people elections
Like which feature do we work on, approval
😎 Approval voting done..... now to do RCV... urgh
Who are we electing to the board, RCV
Yeah, most of the usage in this case will be approval probably, but there will be instances where rcv needs to come into play

@rugged root div is an insult in the UK. I've never really known what it means 😄
Just kind of stupid I think.

for i in list1:
if list1.index(i)==-2:
print(number_word1converter(i)+"thousand")```
when would the index ever be negative
it's just an interesting way to do
for i in range(len(list1)):
if i == -2:
#do stuff
actually no it's not
it's a bit more nuanced but it's not like that
it doesn't do that, actually
THanks for the help
why is this not working
Back in a bit
I saw someone was streaming in this channel, and I see the stream preview, and I see COMMAND PROMPT. What are we doing? Just curious.
I know, for a discord all about programming, seeing command prompt isn't too out there.
@marble solstice interesting username?
can you check the last 3 lines in code
maybe add a space near the (if) im not sure
wait
it does not word @maiden beacon
Not that interesting 😄 just my name and a misspelled first letter of my surname
i think you need a parentheses with a str command
so
give me some slack if i'm wrong but
the 2nd last if i == -2:
@maiden beacon what change should i make
add a space before IF
which if
u said the error is in the last two lines right?
last 3 line the third line the for statement has the error
hang on
then its most probably the way if statement is aranged ..
the for statement should work from -1 to 0
did you end the main?
how to make the range function work
you have this if nested in for range of the length of list1
but here's the issue
there's nothing in list 1
i know the problem is in the for loop it needs to go from -1 to 0
Is -2 just an arbitrary value, or does -2 have some relation with ANYTHING ELSE in the program?
for i in range(len(list1)):
if i == -2: (add space before the if..)
print(number_word1converter(list1[-2])+"thousand")
Sorry if I'm not giving 100% responses, I'm not very good at programming.
the range need to go like -1 -2 -3 -4 and so on
wait
you need to nest the print
underneath the nest
like this, yeah.
and if i'm not wrong, a space ALWAYS has to be a full indent.
u get it ig
for i in range(len(list1)):
if i == -2:
print(number_word1converter(list1[-2])+"thousand") (dis is da way ig)
sorry i dont think you get the problem
the if statement should come under the variable i (under the for loop)
the range needs to go from -1 to -2
i tried.. ask in general

Hello 🙂
@whole bear He's showing us something. It's in context to the conversation we're having in the voice chat. Also, welcome to the server!
I'm trying to read the Rust book, but I'm in a very stressy mood today and can't concentrate
Oh hey. That's cool. What have you made?

if key_down[pygame.K_w] and TestDummy.y_pos > TestDummy.speed:
if TestDummy.speed_boost and TestDummy.y_pos > TestDummy.speed + 10:
TestDummy.y_pos -= TestDummy.speed + 10
else:
TestDummy.y_pos -= TestDummy.speed
if key_down[pygame.K_s] and TestDummy.y_pos < WindowObject.window_y_size - TestDummy.height - TestDummy.speed:
if TestDummy.speed_boost and TestDummy.y_pos < WindowObject.window_y_size - TestDummy.height - TestDummy.speed - 10:
TestDummy.y_pos += TestDummy.speed + 10
else:
TestDummy.y_pos += TestDummy.speed
So @sick dew, instead of doing the check pre-emptively with TestDummy.y_pos > TestDummy.speed, do something like: ```py
TestDummy.y_pos = max(
TestDummy.y_pos - TestDummy.speed,
0
)
You could use a list.

for hue in range(1000)
]
F, R, L = 'forward(5)', 'right(90)', 'left(90)'
path = [F]
for i in range(14):
path = path + [R] + [
{F: F, R: L, L: R}[command]
for command in reversed(path)
]
t.speed(0)

for command, color in zip(path, cycle(rainbow)):
