@whole bear Hi, Just to let you know for next time we talk in VC.
I am not thinking about jobs anymore because I've already failed over 100 interviews, so I am currently not thinking about failed interviews or future ones. You had asked me in VC how I cope with all these failed interviews. I do not think about them anymore. They are in the past and there's nothing I can do about them. I can't run them back, cannot retake them.
So my focus has shifted completely from interviewing to studying. Just to be clear, I am not interviewing anymore.
All I am doing now is focusing on studying what I have to study, studying A LOT, only studying.
I hope this is clear because we talk a ton about interviews and jobs but I'm not even interviewing for weeks now and won't be interviewing for a long time to come.
If you want to share your experiences with jobs/interviews, you're more than welcome to, but I've effectively exhausted all I had to say about jobs.
@whole bear btw, I hope you're having a nice day, I'm in a coffeeshop doing homework
Good to know you are learning.
I think, my day was good!

No, everyone goes through the same voice gate. I also had to go through it when I joined. If I made exceptions, then I'd have to give everyone an exception...

@potent cedar 👋
It cause im new to python tryna learn it
is a very helpful site
yah
Please avoid using w3schools as a Python resource.
So just something to store something temp?
I thought it was going to be better there, it was not
!resources
The Resources page on our website contains a list of hand-selected learning resources that we regularly recommend to both beginners and experts.
it's all awful
Student1 = Student("Alex",17)
so the Student will be the class
Student1 will be the thing inside the class
and Alex 17 is the attrivutes?
ohh so how would i right it aswell?
Im just tryna figure it out 😭
i usually just learn everything just by writing it and making mistakes and then i just learn
but for this im finding it slightly difficult
:white_check_mark: Your 3.14 eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | Alex
002 | 19
so what does init actually do? and self
!e ```py
class MyClass:
def foo(self):
print("Hello, world.")
instance = MyClass()
instance.foo()```
:white_check_mark: Your 3.14 eval job has completed with return code 0.
Hello, world.
ummm. Im abit lost.
so does self kinda say that you can put a variable there?
no...
i normally learn from seeing people actually do it
like practical
Ik what ==
is
never used "is"
ok
!e py foo = [] bar = [] baz = foo print(foo == bar) print(foo is bar) print(foo is baz)
:white_check_mark: Your 3.14 eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | True
002 | False
003 | True
yep
.
so foo si the function right now?
so if its in a class its different
can u recall them if there still in a class?
Nahh not school. Im just trying to learn python. I want to become a Software Developer
!e ```py
class MyClass:
def foo(self, value):
print(value)
instance = MyClass()
instance.foo("Hello, world.")```
:white_check_mark: Your 3.14 eval job has completed with return code 0.
Hello, world.
so what does value actually do in the ()
yah
i can show you my github so yk what ive learned?
so u have an idea
ok
umm i havent used it, but i think i understand it
yah sure
ill send private dm
!e ```py
class MyClass:
def foo(self):
print(self)
bar = MyClass()
baz = MyClass()
print(bar)
bar.foo()
print(baz)
baz.foo()```
:white_check_mark: Your 3.14 eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | <__main__.MyClass object at 0x7f070fe9c6e0>
002 | <__main__.MyClass object at 0x7f070fe9c6e0>
003 | <__main__.MyClass object at 0x7f070fe90550>
004 | <__main__.MyClass object at 0x7f070fe90550>
so im confused what does instance.foo("Hello, world.") do?
ohhh so baz and bar are the same thing since they are assigned to MyClass()?
This is soooo confusing 😭
so self gets replaced with bar and baz
so self is just there to get replaced by other variables
Umm i think we gonna have to dumb it down abit 😭
!e ```py
class MyClass:
def foo(self):
return self
instance = MyClass()
print(instance is instance.foo())```
:white_check_mark: Your 3.14 eval job has completed with return code 0.
True
yah im lost.
:white_check_mark: Your 3.14 eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | Hello. I am Peter.
002 | Hello. I am Sally.
itll be calling the variable in the sally instance
umm i think i get it
yahh
yahh ik
thats the one im working on
but i restarted it
so its not up to date
😭
its technically blank on the updated version
I wanted it so it has a list of students with their attributes
Student
James
18
Male
Trouble
16
Female
use a for loop?
So wouldnt the Student be the class name be object and description of them is attribute
ohh i just finished databases
SO whats a small little project i can do to practice Classes?
each class has different attributs like attack and such maybe
or like a calendar where you can put different activities during the day
Explain that again please? So when will you use a Class?
when u say interacting with them, how?
each class may have diff abilities and methods
ohh so for example
Class Phantom
Fly
Speed
!e ```py
class MyClass:
foo = "FOO"
instance = MyClass()
print(instance.foo)```
:white_check_mark: Your 3.14 eval job has completed with return code 0.
FOO
ok so foo is the attribute, then what it = to is what the atrribute actually is
yeah
so
self.foo refers to the foo attribute unique to the instance
Class Monster
Health = 100
Attack_Damage = 20
yeah
so wont we do like a randit
ohhh
i see
yea depending on the application
foo is an attribute of the instance
umm so "FOO" is the instance???/
no
its an an attribute, like an adjective describing the instance
if it is self.foo
Classes is sooo confusing 😭
Yahh ik because when i learned something new in python i get excited
and makes me want to code more
yea OOP can be real helpful
I think i need a break for today guys 😭
my brain is fried from this
explanation
Thank you so much though guys
keep it up!
ill try my best 😭
thats the most rewarding thing about programming
oh cause theres always a new way of doing this?
yes
ahh i see
everyone is always learning
Because i want to get a software developer job, but i need to learn python alot more. How much do u think i need to learn to be able to get one?
neither do i lol im learning java rn in hs
jython
yes
it exists
yes truly
i dont lol
i heard a s i n g l e p e r s o n talk about it
Its been freezing...
You guys im gonna go because im tired and its almost midnight
thanks guys for the help
rip good night
good nightt

A funny read

I agree
What do you mean?
People have to operate avending machine
people want to automate the operation

you do

the prices MUST be set

Generation Z, often shortened to Gen Z and informally known as Zoomers, is the demographic cohort succeeding Millennials and preceding Generation Alpha. Researchers and popular media use the mid-to-late 1990s as starting birth years and the early 2010s as ending birth years, with the generation typically being defined as people born from 1997 to...
1997-2012 = Gen Z
2010 is inthat range
not sure if you know how number lines work
2012 seems to be the accepted cutoff
I know you don't accept it

I don't think Gen A is allowed on this server
as opposed to the abnormal file?
Because they invested too much
and need it to succeed
like yesterday
because they're literally burning billions of dolalrs
so they need to justify the money fire
by forcing trah down everyone's throat
to convince the investors it was all a good idea
For a while now the goal seems to be to make the world as shitty a place as posible
and AI is there for it
Definitely a matter of luck
for sure
But surely if we generate more content, the world will be better⸮ Think of all the content we didn't have to write ourselves and how amazing AI content is⸮
⸮ = irony punctuation
So glad AI is taking over the creative roles so we can focus on more manual labor
The future is bright
Even at night, the fires will burn bright

@wind raptor can you please give him temporary voice permission? 5-10 mins should be plenty.

Ants are fascinating
There's a few thigns only ants and humans do
Ants and humans are the only species that practice both agriculture and maintain livestock
I mean, you don't need to have the most biomass to be the dominant species

They also perform surgery
Once we spread enough poison and collapse enough ecosystems

That's checker i found https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phongphan.mhl.checker
@upper basin Wiserturtle needs a USB-C hub to 1 x HDMI , 1 x USB-A
@upper basin he needs one that works with Oppo Reno 14 on Android 16
mhl being?
MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) is an older standard that lets you connect your phone to a TV or monitor via its USB port (usually Micro-USB) to mirror HD video and audio, often while charging the phone, using special adapters for big-screen viewing of games, movies, and more, but newer phones often use USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode instead. To use MHL, your phone needs hardware support, a compatible MHL cable/adapter (5-pin or 11-pin), and your TV needs MHL or standard HDMI input
so Reno 14 (Wiserturtle's phone) does not have MHL, and he would need a DisplayLink adapter with a special chip if he wants to make it work
That what i found while googling
@whole bear it seems like your phone is not intended to send video signal over USB-C..
best to just get a laptop instead. again, plenty of used thinkpads available
https://thinkpadscreener.com/sg
a laptop, it matters less. it is a thinkpad though, which is why i recommend it.
Yep
It does not support
Adaptor was delivered to me
And yet I'm not able to use it
so what will you do?
I have no idea
used thinkpad is too expensive?
idk what your budget is though..
It's not too expensive
It's complicated
My laptop has an extended warranty so it will be repaired
but I have no other system to work on
So phone was my last option during this week or two
Right now, I think I have to use my tiny phone screen to type and work
@upper basin ?
@whole bear so it was never about the quality of my USB-C hub or the price of it.
it was about your phone not knowing USB-C DisplayPort Alt-Mode aka MHL.
Exactly 💯
This is a premium feature
Most iphone support video output, I guess ace might have iphone
I should have asked about it earlier 😕
Is there anyone here who wants to learn Python with me?
This is an optimal solution for phones which does not support video output
For that money(100 bucks) + shipping you get a pretty good thinkpad
I’ve always advocated having a backup laptop, can be a beaten down thinkpad as long as it works.
You can already draw a decision tree with prices on each edge.. with all options.
I don't even have $62.5 🙏

Should I have conversations with him?
I just want to write this a self-note, to refer back to it when I need to. I've realized over the course of the past 6 months that Discord is a huge waste of time getting in the way of actual learning, especially given HOW MUCH there is to learn, and none of that happens in Discord, it happens in books, in text editors, in solving problems, doing homework, none of it happens on Discord.
Discord is watercooler discussion, tons of introductions "Hi, how are you, how old are you, what do you work, what did you study, I have to go guys! I have to go guys" <-- this is the typical template of conversations, literally nothing gets done but massive amounts of introductions.
stop staying in the voice chat idle
@rugged root hope I'm not interrupting your day, would it be possible for me to get stream perms? I'm going through my ISO/IEC 27001 certification and got bored. Decided to hop in VC. (Sorry for the ping)
I also realize Im in the wrong channel.
@whole bear can you hear me mate??
Yes
yay!!! thanks
that's partially the company you keep
if you keep consistently talking to the same people and they actually know things, you can skip the introductions and they might talk about something worth learning
like kubernetes configurations or github actions
i see, thanks 🙂
@rugged root
@somber heath
got a new project i want to show off to you two
@wind raptor gimme the perms

@turbid dome hello
Hey @somber heath
@somber heath are you familiar with reading log tables
hello @livid niche
trying to read this but short circuiting
https://planetmath.org/tableofnaturallogarithms
not quite sure how to read the table
im ngl i keep reading your name as opabinia for some reason
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opabinia
Opabinia regalis is an extinct, stem group marine arthropod found in the Middle Cambrian Burgess Shale Lagerstätte (505 million years ago) of British Columbia. Opabinia was a soft-bodied animal, measuring up to 7 cm in body length, and had a segmented trunk with flaps along its sides and a fan-shaped tail. The head showed unusual features: five...
this was before shrimps existed btw
yeah its one of the few species that has 5 eyes
opabinia is not a filter feeder though
its a predator
it killed things with this and sucked up the guts
wait no it didnt suck it up, it used its appendage as a limb to kill and to move it to their mouth
it grabbed bits of the food, and passed it to its mouth
this is the proposed mobility of its limb
the cross means the species is dead
ehh its a good shorthand a lot of people will understand
but i get it
oh yeah it is a proboscis, but it behaves kinda like a limb cuz it didnt suck things with it, it passed food to its mouth using its proboscis
i think the reason the cross is preferred is because its just two sticks, skull and cross bone is more difficult to draw
two intersecting sticks
what do you think of this extinct family of creatures
@balmy mirage 👋
what is a magic cube though
or square
opal what is your favorite lobopod
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobopodia
Lobopodians are members of the informal group Lobopodia (from Ancient Greek λοβός [lobós] 'lobe' and πόδα [podá] 'foot'), or the formally erected phylum Lobopoda Cavalier-Smith (1998). They are panarthropods with stubby legs called lobopods, a term which may also be used as a common name of this group as well. While the definition o...

@somber heath color isnt really fake, its just how our brain interprets light data.
each perceived color is a label for a physical thingy
the color does exist, its just our label is from our perception

Hello , Can you Hear me @whole bear

@frosty shoal
@frosty shoal
created llm without a tokenizer!
I made the model the way models are created in pretraining, but it's completely different from pretraining. This is the craziest project I've ever done in my life!!!
This was the prompt: Large language model
And this was not finetuning!!!
This is a model from scratch that I created
Large language models are trained on a static data basis, typically ending months or even years before the present. Unless they are explicitly connected to a live web source, they don't and won't know about the recent happenings, new technologies, or even the breaking news. This certainly creates a gap between reality an
Sorry I didn't send the prompt, this is the prompt:
Large language model
It's important for me to note that because there isn't a lot of data and there's no tokenizer, sometimes when asking long prompts, there's a greater chance of getting strange outputs like this:
Embeddings are dense vector representation in continuous space, providing the numerical foundation for all subsequent neural computations.

Good luck in the kitchen with AI
The holidays should taste like butter, cinnamon, roasted turkey — not AI chaos. But in 2025, recipe hunting feels like culinary roulette. Because AI isn’t just summarising anymore. It’s writing recipes. The internet calls the result Slop. Why? Palki Sharma tells you.

@halcyon mural if you prefer reading, some resources here #pedagogy message
I’d argue that you’re still using a tokenizer. Just because it’s not Adam or another standard tokenizer doesn’t mean there’s no tokenization. You’re taking an input, mapping it to a discrete unit (in your case u64), and then using it as the building blocks for your generation. Calling them atoms is just semantics.
sounds like a markov chain lmao
looking at his code it's just mapping window of chars to probability based on occurrence in the text
It’s a deterministic rule based generator. One could argue your case but the next state doesn’t appear to be determined by the prior state(s)
Similar but more chaotic in my mind
Have you looked into Forgejo?
My buddy keeps telling me to set it up but I’m unsure as to how good it would actually be
what is that?
Self hosted GitHub?
They’re working on a system to share forgejo repositories between people so changes persist across clients but files are local.
🤷♂️ I’m not a fan of it for most of my projects but there are a few where I question… it might be a good idea
eh sounds like too much effort, github works well enough for me
I speak with many people who come and go. I don't remember you at this time. Perhaps if you added some more context.
Hi Opal, how’s your Christmas going?
Good to hear, any new or exciting projects since we last spoke… 4(?) months ago
No.
Dang, alright well Merry Christmas hope the rest of your day/night go well
hmm.. ai these days..
Prepare the system
Update your package index and install prerequisites. Make sure everything is ready before moving on — you don’t want a surprise meow at the wrong moment.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulphur-crested_cockatoo What I was trying to stream, before.
The sulphur-crested cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) is a relatively large white cockatoo found in wooded habitats in Australia, New Guinea, and some of the islands of Indonesia. They can be locally very numerous, leading to them sometimes being considered pests. A highly intelligent bird, they are well known in aviculture, although they can be deman...
