Wouldnt they just need to subpeona the parent?
Im wondering if it would holed up under criminal law
because in some ways they are the same entity
So, Whats the newest features in python?
Wasn't the newest child protection act in the UK would force backdoors?
There is a beleif that the law also applies to everyone around the world
Can a sovereign parliament transfer their sovereignty to an individual? because they have the 'right', but at the same time if sovereignty originates from the parliament, does that mean they don't have the ability to transfer sovereignty?
lords have no power
I could have sworn that house of commons could by pass the house of lords.
Is there an emergency power's law? Thats the sterotypical way to quickly create an autocracy
Thats one way to mess up the government
You gotta have some good lines

so....
I always thought of quality as being synomonous to property
Got a favorite shakespeare play?
lol
Romeo and Juliet right?
Haven't really read shakespeare much. Jus treading the merchant of venice again then gonna try to work my away across the plays
Maybe Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow...
I really hate it
Sounds great
Can't understand when he is going on and on and on
I just read act 1
BASSANIO
In my school-days, when I had lost one shaft,
I shot his fellow of the self-same flight
The self-same way with more advised watch,
To find the other forth, and by adventuring both
I oft found both: I urge this childhood proof,
Because what follows is pure innocence.
I owe you much, and, like a wilful youth,
That which I owe is lost; but if you please
To shoot another arrow that self way
Which you did shoot the first, I do not doubt,
As I will watch the aim, or to find both
Or bring your latter hazard back again
And thankfully rest debtor for the first.
^ that is gonna take a couple more reads to understand
Hes asking for money from antonio. I just can't really understand it all
Im pretty sure he is saying antonio secured a line of credit for him. and he went and wasted it (hes broke). and now he needs more. And he's asking without any sin with it
or something like that
I dunno. The more I read it the more I understand it, but its gonna take a lot of reads. and then I will be talking and thinking in shakespeare, which will be fun (not really)
thanks for taking a crack at it
thats fun
nice
gonna head off. it was a fun chat. good luck
@modest jolt 👋
hello
@jaunty dew 👋
It has not been 3 weeks since I joined, so I am not voice verified yet, but I am here because of beginner tips for going into the field of AI/ML. Currently I am learning Python and machine learning, but what would you suggest if you were in my shoes right now?
@somber heath 👋
oh mb
Also personally i used Sololearn but
That's up to you
Me aswell starting with Oracle Race 2025
what is Oracle race ?
sry idk a lot
free AI courses provided by ORACLE
No its ok. My bad i should wrote it properly 😅
Oracle Race to Certification 2025
@timber yarrow 👋
Oracle is the company that made Java
yacht racing
carbon fibre boats

@quick osprey 👋
hi
@timid quartz summon
Did you get muted?
Really?
Yup
Harsh punishment
Yea
It’s wtv
Apparently i hurt someone’s feelings or something
Cuz me and emotional were joking
Appeal them
But it won't be fair for you!
Got 1 warning then i said a f slur and got muted forever
They don’t care bru
Damn
I sent u a dm
Okay
@primal shadow You got kids?
Lol
Dude in this day and age why would someone would like to have a kid?
You got good internet 🛜
That's why I have kids
Get married, buy a house, put up a nice fence, get good internet, set up firewall, have kids
the american dream
If it works for you, sure!
I was surprised to know you got a kid, because you sound energetic and young
Hello guys
I'm Learning python to make Demoscene. Does somebody know what to start with when you're making on demoscene projects?
I’m still a beginner in this whole process.. I do coding with my phone
-- stranger in this server who is DM-ing me
how the F do ppl write code on a phone 📱 ?
some do
especially those who don't have PC or laptop
My first coding experience was in Phone
@lilac hill How good of teacher is GPT?
pretty good actually
Really?
I do use GPT as teacher as well
but not in same way
I fetch data to GPT and let GPT explain me
maybe 2

how bro, teach me
i havent neither lol
Use of browser or app to simulate the compiler or IDE
I think it is frustating to use Phone
for coding or learning
but phone is all I got back then
@wise loom Firefox on Phone is best, very few browser on phone support extension
@wise loom what app was that?
amdgpu_top
I was highlighting that Discord doesn't use VENC, specifically AMD VCN for decoding on stream playback. Apparently it has it Disabled for WebRTC streams but enabled for webcam streams.
This leads to CPU taking over all decoding which is bad because the GPU was made for that.
I guess this issue is specific to Linux only?
needs to be checked on Windows, I haven't checked.
In windows it doesn't
I mean I've not experienced such a spike in CPU
So I ran Chrome like this to enable Hardware Decoding and Vulkan
google-chrome --enable-features=AcceleratedVideoDecodeLinuxZeroCopyGL,AcceleratedVideoDecodeLinuxGL,VaapiIgnoreDriverChecks,Vulkan
Then I opened Discord in the browser.
who got banned?
How come you are in server?
How many days?
forever
!!
Do you know exact reason for permanent mute?
got 1 warning
ask emotional he can explain it
@lilac hill Explain
im 15
so use of slur was reason
@lilac hillwhen i saw chris in voice chat i joined and i tried to tell him that i accidently said something bad but he would not answer then i js got kicked
well he has a protocoll to follow so hopefully with some good deeds and community help they might consider to give you another chance
Because you are not supposed to appeal in general voice call or chat
i didnt
i was js simply trying to tell him i said something a while ago
I do understand but you got no other option but to use another account which will result in ban
Gotcha
I've made a server, would you like to join?
me?
yup i can join the server
yes
hmmmm
afaik usually not a ban, just a mute on the alt as well
!source alt
Command: association
Alternate accounts commands.
Source Code
bot/exts/moderation/alts.py:61
having alt accounts for legitimate reasons, even with prior infractions, is acknowledged by the moderation process
How do mod identify alt account?
example 1:
"hi, this is kb, just on an alt account"
example 2:
kb speaks, everyone instantly recognises the voice and the manner of speech
if you think people are careful with these things, the general answer seems to be no
bypassing a voice infraction this way is very infeasible by all means
Hmm
Trading require money
You can be millionaire
just start with billion
you will end up being millionaire
why is bro using me as an example
Cinema
it's not for everyone. over 90% fail. So don't trade and focus getting a job. That should be great enough challenge for most of ya'll
Think about it
Investment is good as long as you know what you doing
some investment has high return
on low risk
like Gold
no dude, you think about it. I have more than 10 years experience from finance and been trading (my main bread and butter) for 5 years. I dont need career advice from you
I dont even know who you are and what you do, and dont need your financial advice. thank you very much
let people do whatever they want, and focus on yourselves
I was implying to me
You gave me advice to not participate in it
so I responded with my understanding
to your response
I'm not suggesting you to do this or that
It is my opinion
you commented om my earlier discussion with guys where we talking about me scripts in ninjatrader
and a little passive aggressive advice
this discussion is waste of time tbh. focus on yourself.
It is joke
Not advice
I'm not expert but I do know, those who do Option Trading are gambling
and who are you exactly? whats your background and years of experience?
and why do you argu and make passive aggresive remarks towards someone who actually is an expert lol
waste of time
Its not remark to expert
as I told you earlier
it is my opinion
thank you for uneducated opinion, can you leave me alone now. thank you
okay
that user does have a problem understanding jokes
here we go
Lets not talk about it
he prefer not to have discussion
so let it be
you too, leave me alone. Do not talk a about my having problems. Focus on your own problems. Thank you.
if you stop lashing out at people for making jokes, maybe
Listen, please leave me alone. Dont interact with me, dont talk to me and please dont talk about me having problems. This is weird ok? just stop it.
@lavish gazelle good choice
> Blood (Light/Realistic)
> Violence (Repeated/Moderate)
> Maturity: Moderate
> 9+
???
that game that was being discussed
there is a clear mismatch between the words and the number
lol
I have a very clear and specific position on why I don't get involved with Roblox:
community that's predatory towards both children and game developers
@lavish gazelle it was widely advertised on youtube
it's, like, that one game that is advertised everywhere too
forgot the name
Damn
idk there is a lot of them
Yesss
ah, remembered
One time purchase game are better
raid shadow legends
but robots
it is day light robbery to have in app purchase game
time to donate to minesweeper.online
"peaceful gambling without money involved, with philosophical subcontext included"
@lavish gazelle there is some amount of action included
action of opening lootboxes
spawn can be predicted
larger the snake gets
I might be thinking of the ancient one not the whatever mobile app
Ah
lmao
This game is ancient
yeah
@lavish gazelle @upbeat oasis okay time for difficult philosophical questions:
"does minesweeper count as skill-centric/hardcore or chill/for-fun?"
how is the genre of hay day called
I hate board games
Brain Strom
@upbeat oasis what you described exists, but is different from what I made
@upbeat oasis this one is turn-based
tax returns forms
Hmm
the type of speeds we're talking about
https://minesweeper.online/game/3753839970
I'm the type of person to play both CS2 and solitaire
different ends of the scale
"if I do start playing on mobile, I might get to used to 120fps gaming, so my 60fps PC gaming will feel worse afterwards"
do I even have games installed on my phone
Done
I considered buying an iPhone as a fourth phone
Pc
I don't have any apple products currently
also thought of buying a macbook
but decided against that
It has both Mobile and PC download
not worth it
True
dtrace and ZFS support out of the box
- lichess
- chess.com
- galimulator (premium)
- the powder toy
- subterfuge (premium)

5~7 years ago
Yes
Ass games
i am glad it is
tf??
what
Ranking for what?
Why send that here in the middle of a conversation
its a tournament
why not?
No one gives a shit bro
ok
No one here cares about the tournament
and i dont give a shit about your conversation
@lavish gazelle it's normal for people who are usually only active in the voice chats to send things here just like in an OT chat
Ok where were we?
Btw I can't download Arena Breakout in Phone
too old to handle such a game
almost decade old phone
Ahhhhh I see
We can play in PC
I am using linux
Good for you
Arena Breakout is windows
I used to use linux but I choose to use windows now
lol
Nice, I have a windows PC at home, but I don't really use it except for streaming movies
You've got in both PC and Mobile
So where are you?
I shall go do CS2 deathmatch; haven't played shooters in a very long time
CS2 is kinda cool tho
idk if I'll ever get back to respectable ranks
Ah, unpaid overtime?
Be one of the hardcore girls that play ABI (Arena Breakout Infinite)
Huhhh not really, I like coming to the office on weekends
Yeah
ABI has deathmatch tbh
ABI will make you have a hardon
Kinda
Uhmmm professionally, just over a year
I was in high school before then
Impressive
Thank you 🙂
officially, approximately same
unofficially, slightly longer
Lol hahah 😂
(another year as a "self-employed")
I have been programming for a while
So based on it I can make estimate that yuyaify is born after 2000
It was basically working for my freelancing business
or got hired very late
I started programming pre-2010
could be but I think you are born after 2000
So you started at the age of 8 or 9
You a girl right???
yes
Cool
it looks a bit funnier with titles
Bro has now become gender neutral
very context-dependent
Junior to Lead in no time
Amazing
Your linkedin is so dry
with programming equivalent of Latin, Pascal
dead language
Ohh
Your russian 😍
How do you know?
Uhmm I just know
I love russians, So i know if I see one
I'm gradually transforming it from just a list of stuff into an art project
because I don't really use linkedin
Art??
well, very certain kind of art
What kind I am curious?
first word there
Huhh interesting
@vocal basin you are the female version of Tsoding (He's russian also btw)
tsoding does way more daring/creative projects
Uhmmm I don't really know her that much tbh, just conversations in here
you can't
All I have is
windows
you told me you can't do much about it
Huhhh, I will start gaming on PC after getting my workstation setup, I need to buy a flat screen also
because you r @ office
what specs do ur pc have!
I could use my linux to install the game through wine & lutris but the game uses the ACE anti-cheat, so not possible
Uhhmmm I have 2, the workstation has 32GB and 1TB HDD, the other has 2 drives and 12 GB RAM
(I chose those specific words, because I do believe I have more in-depth knowledge on many technical aspects)
I use the smaller spec pc for watching movies rn 😂
i.e. the difference is more importantly in the target of what we do
Teach me
and open source some code where it's coming from
I am not tryna be a chad in rust
unless that site just becomes a historical artifact
for a couple of months I switched almost entirely to Rust/SQL/Bash
prior to that was doing more Python and TypeScript
I'm going to come back to those two soon
also Lua
(soon)
I seriously don't want that
Rust is more productive for what I do than Python
I see
ORMs are easier for me
debuggability and clarity are critical since I have strict performance requirements
Did you designed the website?
The most embedded language
it's just mdbook
Hmmm nice
this is what I used
Where do you host your websites?
GH Pages
Github PAGES???!
Ahhhhhhh
all the code running is handled by the rust playground
https://parrrate.com/ is not even accessible
that one isn't pointing anywhere useful yet
Ohh ok
spotting mdbook be used randomly for non-Rust stuff is fun
GitBook only recently added dark theme iirc
wait no
I thought serde.rs had a dark theme
and that one uses gitbook
but it doesn't have a dark theme

confusion
ah, no
it does
just non-trivial to find
oaky, so, yes, now GitBook does have a dark theme
and mdbook had it for a very long time
and defaults to it properly
okay now I'm ever more confused:
why does GitBook themes have different fonts
presumably for readability?
I careless about why
I care about more
as long as it has more
it all matters to me
how it looks without the font weight
and with
especially fonts with glyph support for non-latin scripts are crucial maybe
This is much better
that's why I think it's just because of readability concerns
readability is main reason
also I've just ran into something ancient
https://docs.rs/void
Void
(from serde.rs's examples)
2016
with the equivalent in the standard library being added in 2019
Can it be used in latest version of rust?
I'm curious to know
I suppose it should work without any problem
yeah, most of the crates are usable even after a decade
there are very few breaking changes
Hmm
the most significant in recent years was when time broke
because Box<str> got a second FromIterator implementation
So It was for convenience
but time is actively maintained, so you could just update dependencies
ideally, void::Void could turn into being just an alias for std::convert::Infallible
however
there are some consequences of those being different types
so the trick, that's planned for Infallible and ! can't be done
this code would break
impl Trait for Void {}
impl Trait for Infallible {}
(if those were turned into the same type)
side note: these extension traits are slightly misdesigned
https://docs.rs/void/latest/void/trait.ResultVoidExt.html
https://docs.rs/void/latest/void/trait.ResultVoidErrExt.html
T and E there should've been associated types not generic type arguments
I wasn't expecting so much info about it
I wish Python had associated types
you have complete knowledge of situation
Well upto Python dev
something like this
class Iterator(Protocol):
Item: type
def __next__(self) -> Self.Item: ...
def __iter__(self) -> Self: ...
compared to what we have now
class Iterator[Item](Protocol):
def __next__(self) -> Item: ...
def __iter__(self) -> Self: ...
Uh
actually, I guess, for Python, the second option makes more sense
I think this
In Python, values carry types, but variables don’t.
in Python it's more normal to say that I is an iterator that yields A and also an iterator that yields B
unrelated
since this is a valid statement when A or B is a subtype of the other
Aren't you talking about associated types?
yeah, unrelated to whether variables have types
I would still argue it is
associated types, just like generics, are expected to exist only within the scope of the type system model
shouldn't get too real most of the time
whereas in Rust the only subtyping you get is lifetimes
Everything in python is object at runtime, so saying Item:type could be interpreted as both runtime class attribute and compile time member?
here we're dealing mostly with attributes on classes, not really variables
they're annotated more explicitly
I believe that under some circumstances and interpretations of Python's typing model, this might make sense as is
keyword might
ah I get you now — you’re saying associated types (like Item in Rust’s Iterator) only really exist inside the type system model, while in Python the runtime doesn’t even care. so in Python land we just say “this iterator yields A or B” and leave it at that, because duck typing takes over. makes sense 👍
I've implemented approaches similar to associated types (literally having a type you can pull out of a class or an instance) before
Why would you want that in python?
What will be your use case?
certain things related to how Pydantic behaves
Hmmmm
Pydantic supports generics in quite a weird way
TypeScript's type model is excessively powerful
I believe you can, for example, have most of the JSON Schema spec covered by it
I just see it as a linter
e.g. have a type alias which describes how the type depends on the value of the schema
mostly, yes
there are a few runtime TS features which aren't present in JS
general advice is to avoid them
Avoid JS & TS???
this is kind of thing that one can't get without associated types easily:
type ItemOf[T: Iterator[Item]] = Item
doesn't enum just compile to some immediately invoked function expression ??? 🤮
enums are just aliases
🤮
No i meant compiling into javascript the result code
Cuz browsers can't run ts
meanwhile Rust allows this
type ItemOf<T> = <T as Iterator>::Item;
💌
you might be confusing those with weird constructors and decorators and whatever
enum Direction {
Up = 1,
Down,
Left,
Right,
}
this just gets inlined as 1,2,3,4 in code
Enums allow a developer to define a set of named constants.
No I know what you mean enums
I did see someone showing the end results of the code of enums
they likely get minified if they're strings
so you get _mQ1 or whatever instead of "this is third enum variant with an excessively long name"
Give me a sec to compile a ts
it didn't like me using : ItemOf[Test] directly
but seems to work fine this way
I'm surprised pylance understands it
This is what I am talking about:
After compile ts:
enum Direction {
Up = "UP",
Down = "DOWN",
Left = "LEFT",
Right = "RIGHT"
}
console.log(Direction.Up);
I got:
var Direction;
(function (Direction) {
Direction["Up"] = "UP";
Direction["Down"] = "DOWN";
Direction["Left"] = "LEFT";
Direction["Right"] = "RIGHT";
})(Direction || (Direction = {}));
console.log(Direction.Up);
Javscript is just dirty: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Glossary/IIFE
BIG TIME
wait is this targeting es5
that might be why
Lemme set the target then
Same shit:
Even es2016
then just for consistency/simpler implementation ig
except browsers
which have to guess what was actually meant and inline those calls
Most browsers use v8 engine so they cool from that
is it possible to embed JS into COBOL
lol
it does receive updates sometimes
I am not learning that shit with being promise a hug bag 💰
But julia is kinda fun too
You get turn on by cobol????
and most importantly:
like Go
this is actually quite rare
and is called one of the key features of Go's design
and Erlang's
Impressive but not worth learning as for me
I really wanna do some more golang
watching Genocidal Organ 2017.
i haven't watched a movie/anime in years.
(this is what Rust has loop for)
waiting for the PANIC, DROP DATABASE, HALT AND CATCH FIRE statement to be added
old man lolz
try watching AOT
Rust tbh is just an experiment of different cs concepts
though, from the other perspective, just how broken is COBOL that this needs to be a language feature
rather than a library
I guess very
It will be hard for it to be just a library since the amount of financial ints depending on it
But it is quite impressive it still works till this day
there was another "old" language updated in 2023
C
it took C 50 years to get 0b syntax for integer literals
maybe in 2073 we'll get logical xor
modern C++ can compile most of C but that tends to produce different results
because C++ provides less direct control
and gives more options to the compiler
(C++ has more UB)
I won't use it until C++26 is stable enough
what's AOT ?
attack on titan
Bevy i think under the hood uses immediate mode GUI library called egui
ahead of time compiler
oh with the giants who chomp on humans and there's blood all over ?
Correct
I am waiting for the next season
Also Jijutsu kaisen also
also
Sakuna will be peek next season
I was able to force Hardware Decoding for certain applications (Firefox, mpv for certain)
The fact that the last season ended the same way the founding titan started is just peek
CPU: 7735hs ; GPU: radeon 680m
there are certainly better iGPUs out there..
GPU- or CPU-enabled?
better in terms of more hardware support for decoding/encoding video streams
iirc there are some differences between 264 and 265 in those terms
Why your CPU is not taking it well
amdgpu_top and /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/amdgpu_pm_info
are finally confirming that decoding is happening on the GPU
I can't believe I had to explicitly tell FF/Chrome/mpv to use the GPU
it's so obvious that if a GPU is available it should be used
lolz
like why would I ever want the CPU to be used for decoding video..
I don't know if VLC uses the integrated GPU on my laptop (instead of main CPU cores)
even an old Tegra on a Baytrail does wonders..
((running inside docker))
What is wrong with you people man, why tf is vlc running on docker????!!
What os are you using templeos??
openSUSE; it has interesting opinions on how ffmpeg and friends are installed
codecs are legal and patent battlegrounds nowadays I think..
maybe related to your usage of "opinions"
You torturing yourself
no
use debian
dear master Borje, please teach us what the best Linux distro is
I don't have to you must already know it. ARCH
next one I install will be ALT
I use arch.. btw
without ..
I use arch btw
I like tinycore a lot myself..
arch is tinycore
far from it
What ever you put in there is your doing
tinycore is possibly the only minimalistic distro these days
there are many sacrifices made to reach that goal..
Does it ship with a desktop env????
yes
it's 12MB and includes a GUI Desktop
The whole os is 12 MB??
yes
how much does VxWorks require
Mark Shuttleworth asked me in the pre-screening for Canonical when I applied for a job there what my GPA in High-school was..
heal also asked me what percentile I was in terms of math ability
Mark is a serious man
imagine how much Mathematics one does at Canonical
and how much of it Mark knows..
"serious" being <...>?
give him an impromptu 5th grade synthetic geometry problem, see how he fares..
Who's this mark?
Not for dev stuff
He's the main man at Canonical, you know, the operating system "for humans"
Ohhh ubuntu 🤮
so IMB Z is not serious too because it's only for deployment?
Who uses that shyy
No no, please, Mark is a well-respected man. In 2006 he went on orbit on the ISS.
How did Mark have money to do that? We don't know..
I hate ubuntu even though
an overly rich 0.6% of the market
Ubuntu has a paid version
i.e. whatever IBM has left
yes, the paid version is for Mark's rich friends, which I am not one of those
Ohh good for them
Slide in his dms bruhh
seems to be more than BSD and [non-Oracle] Solaris combined
non-Oracle Solaris being illumos
Dude doesn't want to hear about me. I applied for Canonical, didn't even pass the screening. Failed pre-interview.
Imagine how high the bar must be at Canonical if all their apps keep crashing every 5h and you get the Dialog box asking you if you want to "Send Logs to Developers"
lmao
PEAK!!
Damn 0.00% is crazy work
also, very classic of AI overview, I can literally see 0.01% instead of 0.00% in the first search result
vibe rounding
speaking of big computers,
turns out Oxide a ~month ago raised $100M
wow
impressive
They are a cloud company reinventing the wheel????
Bryan Cantrill must be super-well-connected
the company is very public about many aspects of its operation
the OS mafia
I am happy for them
I respect there work
@sage hearth was it you or someone else who pinged here a couple of minutes ago?
(might just be a similar name)
I'm just a bit interested in knowing what type of scam that was
Top tier prop
so i’m new at programming and i wanna know how to use visual studio code
one of the most important commands to know:
"Python: Select Interpreter"
if Python behaves as if packages and whatever else is missing
(just a thing to remember when stuff explodes)
for Python you need the following extensions:
- Python (default one, by Microsoft)
ruffhttps://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=charliermarsh.ruff
for proper projects I also highly recommend these two:
done
with uv for managing venvs
uv is a tool built on top of pip and venv which simplifies some things
uv init
uv add numpy
uv run main.py
so I want to begin write codes
is your project going to have dependencies on existing python packages?
(which would normally be installed via pip)
if yes, then this
idk I literally a biggener and idk
i just wanna to make a simple calc
Hello
then ignore this part
and this, for now
for now just create an empty directory for your code and open it in VSCode
I just donwloaded it
How can i do this
create a directory using your system's file explorer
I am stick at this
then open it from here
then ?
I don't think your should be opening that directory
you opened where VSCode is installed;
you need to open the directory of your project instead
oh
ty
like this right ?
no, you need to do this again and select the right directory
so that’s wrong ?\
this
click Open Folder again, then navigate to your project
open your project's directory instead of the first thing it shows
like this ?
press ctrl+` (backtick; key to the left of 1, also has ~ on it)
then run py main.py in the integrated terminal
if you don't have that key, press three dots in the toolbar, then Terminal, then New Terminal
where is that Key
in my experience, running code trough terminal is way more stable and reliable than using the "run" button
though might depend on your keyboard layout
py main.py, then enter
is that a code ?
ig Pycharm is way easier than this
try to avoid using spaces in file names
PyCharm won't allow you to run non-Python files either
Actually it allows me ig
it doesn't, it just automatically adds .py
(when creating the file)
click the file, then either right click it and find rename in the context menu or press F2
the file name must be snake_case or lowercase with no spaces ending with .py
after that you need to run py <whatever the file name is> in the terminal within VSCode
wait wait
have you renamed the file?
it must be simple_calc_ig.py
oh ok
lowercase s and .py extension
done
after renaming,
ctrl+` to focus the terminal
then run py simple_calc_ig.py in the terminal
no, don't use the run button
I just dragged this to the terminal
clear the terminal input and type exactly py simple_calc_ig.py into it, then press enter
now that your know how the right way to run code looks like,
you may try clicking this button
never knew this was the right way
neat
Tat’s it ?
That*
when this will get problematic:
- multiple interpreters
- working directories
- some other cases
so I'm showing you the more reliable way in case stuff with the run button doesn't work
oh I get it
another option of how to run the program:
press ctrl+F5
also do remember that you have to save the files
or enable auto-save like in PyCharm
I can’t press ctrl + s >
it already saved for you when you ran the file
yh yh
that one will open this prompt
which idk if works at all
but seems to run
I can’t remove this it’s that last thing when I run the code
it just goes back to the terminal after running
So I can’t right ?
ctrl+F5 means "run the program through a debugger with debugging turned off", seems like
you just need to get used to treating program output just like output of any other terminal tool
$ command
output
# here, the output is finished
$ another command
...
ummmmm
IntelliJ family of IDEs treat program output way too separately from regular terminal output
including PyCharm
which is why, for example, ANSI escape sequences don't work there by default
whereas VSCode runs your program mostly as is
if I want to run with these two
I can't currently check the first one there; seems like because I'm using a remote server for running it
(presumably that one has something to do with actual windows)
sigh
Hello ?
Hi
The laptop didn't detect that Python is installed, but when I tried to install it, it said that a version is already installed.

so you work as a python dev?
btw i am a python dev in a HFT firm
got it
want to work togeter on a python project?
Knight Capital 2
KC is a famous example of HFT gone wrong
yup totally possible
also of problematic deployment practices
@somber heath billions before they cancelled trades
@forest silo 👋
and this is after whatever they could cancel
and then they mis-updated again
this is why we delete dead code if it's actually dead
never replace dead code in one step
delete, deploy, replace, deploy
unit tests wouldn't really help there
@fluid marsh 👋
should be mentioned here too

Pop quiz. Who can guess the real ubuntu shell
One is made with py the other is the ubuntu terminal
I sometimes forget that root is colourless
I rarely ever log in as root or sudo -s
used to seeing green user and host name
soo do you have your answer.
this one suggests the answer is left
the other one is made with python. Made it look as realistic as possible
and it actually works
works to what extent?
very similar but not quite there. I implemented some of the default command
does $(...) syntax work?
Not sure I added that. Imma upload it to github in a bit so you can test it yourself
Right now it only works on linux beacuse of one import
On ubuntu 25.04 it came by default
It generally comes with Ubuntu
on minimal ubuntu installation with "login as root" enabled it might be missing
it is missing on Debian default installation
because that has "login as root" enabled by default
with a separate password between root and non-root user
Oh ok
sudo is a surprisingly non-default thing despite how people view it as inherent to Linux
Alpine doesn't have proper sudo
only sudo as an alias to doas
, which is a package
