the golden cobol days are over
have been for quite some time
maybe with some really obscure system/dialect you can negotiate an absurd contract
maybe but with ~500 Ruby candidates per role.. if the person doesn't get the job, they will make $0.
whereas at least the Cobol person makes the $71k
yeah, only the factor of it being a bad language works
I mean over here where I'm at it's really about finding 1 role, any role, not a "special contract", that would be a super-luxury.
I'd rather have dull unenjoyable suffering so willingly
whats up

Is it good to import a library when you only require one or two methods of it.
How heavy is the library?
If it's not a problem, you might be quibbling over not much at all.
So how does it work, like when importing a large library brings all the classes with it or just the one necessarily required
@somber heath
It at least runs the module.
After that I'm not 100% certain.
I expect it would hang on to everything.
Like in the case of py from a import b
I expect all of a would be still sitting around somewhere.
But it might not.
Yes it has to be it ...
Although it shouldn't be, as it would increase the size unnecessary and ultimately also reduce the efficiency.
What was your first language as a programmer

I'd be tempted to throw regex at this and be done with it, but I suspect that's not the purpose of the exercise.
the s is the string on the fancy
yeah, it's fine
its for leetcode
since it doesn't entirely delete the whole triplet
@halcyon compass π
(I often don't read the problem statements so idk what even the goal is)
there is a slightly different case where this would output different results
the ony problam is wan user enter a random text like thes
the purpose is to return a valid answer through any means
(in leetcode generally)
regex is appropriate
but this isn't perl so regex isn't omnipotent
Given a string s, delete the minimum possible number of characters from s to make it fancy.
Return the final string after the deletion. It can be shown that the answer will always be unique.
Example 1:
Input: s = "leeetcode"
Output: "leetcode"
Explanation:
Remove an 'e' from the first group of 'e's to create "leetcode".
No three consecutive characters are equal, so return "leetcode".
Example 2:
Input: s = "aaabaaaa"
Output: "aabaa"
Explanation:
Remove an 'a' from the first group of 'a's to create "aabaaaa".
Remove two 'a's from the second group of 'a's to create "aabaa".
No three consecutive characters are equal, so return "aabaa".
Example 3:
Input: s = "aab"
Output: "aab"
Explanation: No three consecutive characters are equal, so return "aab".```
even weird stuff like this technically passes
||```py
"".join(map(mul, map(1 .lt, map(len, map(set, map(chain.from_iterable, pairwise(pairwise(s + "__")))))), s))
import re
class Solution:
def makeFancyString(self, s: str) -> str:
return re.sub(r"([a-z])\1{2,}",r"\1\1",s)
how do you feel about this? it uses just regexes and backreferences.
I was about to do this one, yes
almost exactly that
Don't get me wrong. I'm impressed. It's clever. But oh my god.
okay this is probably better
||```py
"".join(chain.from_iterable(map(islice, map(itemgetter(1), groupby(s)), repeat(2))))
okay-ish performance
probably worse than regex but not sure
better than the regex actually. but also keep in mind that their testing environments should drop caches, there's an entire methodology they should follow to get accurate measurements in timings and memory. otherwise they get high variance between runs or distorted timings. also those .pyc bytecode things should those be dropped too idk.
this one is close to regex in how it operates
restructures the problem so it's easier to solve
Hi
bro i didnt even know that was python π
itertools, functools, operator built-in modules are overlooked, but tons of interviews ask about them.
This reminds me I need to study all built-in modules.
I think you could actually learn tons and teach tons by just reviewing other people's code. You either find mistakes or better ways of doing sth and help them out, or you learn sth that they are doing better so they have helped you out.
Also, helps to see things in a real-world example.
I gladly volunteer as tribute to be roasted. π€£
well I was asked recently in an interview about multiprocessing, so now I might need a problem set just to train multiprocessing. not even sure if leetcode has that.
I would honestly say just try to improve performance on non-sequential (independent) loops for that.
That's the first thing that comes to my mind.
Yeah.
Exactly those.

here it assumes "unset" on the right is str not Literal["unset"]

Next.js is based on React
how is it different than javascript?

brb work call
Would anyone know facial recognition?
Or how to create it because I think somebody's been taking craft supplies from me and I'm making an automatic locking door and I want to use facial recognition to tell okay open this door when I come through
hello
Hey @amber raptor
oh, I though never getting anywhere near Iowa
Local engineering
cornado
@frosty ginkgo π
only slightly more than space taken up target directory in one of my projects
hey
anyone who can help me finding free templates like this
https://themeforest.net/category/ecommerce
i need a ecom template where multiple seller can sell products like amazon and flipkart
what happened there
I do not think therefore I do not am
Is it a logo
it was
It was good
okay I guess we know the answer now
INSERT *, a lesser known sibling of SELECT *
"it is less or more than fees promised to ChatGPT over the course of interacting with it?"
True but making insert is easier
aaa I can't find the image
Like imagine u have a query language based off python dictionaries and building as insert statement all u have to do is update the current dictionary
Dw I'll send it again
I guess I might have to search through all history saved again
@midnight agate can go further: only dictionary literals, and tree-sitter for queries
it's fine, you can always fix image generation mistakes later
Accept friend req?
I might have to do tht
I'm 17 and I'm from india
Cirno, 1000(s) years, from Gensokyo
Do you speak italian and spanish
Guys I'll brb
I speakn't both
What do you guys use python for?
(excluding commonalities with other languages) I probably know more Esperanto than Italian
@peak depot tower is like a magnet in that case
drawing people away from other places
speaking of magnets, I recently suddenly realised how to think of superconductors sane-ish-ly
current happening between two points without electric potential difference
anyone who can help me finding free templates like this
https://themeforest.net/category/ecommerce
i need a ecom template where multiple seller can sell products like amazon
yeah ik maybe someone miss the message so thats why share again
if it didn't work the first time, consider fixing the grammar and trying again
Is it your main programming language? I ask because i use it for web dev and small scripts but i know its used in other disciplines like physics and biochem reseach
I just made a terrible joke anyone want to hear it
@peak depot I'm waiting for files to copy
so that should be compatible with gaming
also removing some code
Are you guys playtesting?
no, we're playing civ6, not civ beyond earth
@peak depot I'm still listening to that weird song I sent in DMs
such a banger
King 810 now sounds very similarly to Tallah
I should learn the lyrics properly (and, like, whatever vocal patterns are happening there)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxwKBpdin0Y @peak depot cool

lol
Officer quit after this π #shorts
was mostly removing code
migrating from one thing to another
new one is slightly simpler
(for some definition of simpler)
making a whole new type just because I don't like that the original uses an unsorted map
no, one of the fields is HashMap
in the struct
I want the same set of fields but with a BTreeMap
I'd have to sort it anyway
though there is an alternative to use IndexMap
but
the issue is that it's already HashMap
and the only way to turn it into something consistent is BTreeMap
maybe I should export it in better quality rather than screenshotting
@wind raptor I have it covered in something relatively thing and that's good enough
no thick protective glass or whatever
I have dropped my phone a bunch of times onto rocks or whatever
not critical so far
the thing I have over the screen is film rather than glass I think
very thin
the most noticeable damage on it is actually not from falls but from my fingernails
Hi!
I acknowledge your presence
While Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is more than 100 years old, Emotional Quotient (EQ) is relatively new (first referenced in 1990) and a skill many business leaders are still grappling with, and now they have to contend with developing their Decency Quotient (DQ), a term coined a few years ago by Ajay Banga, president and CEO of Mastercard.
Great, now we have IQ, EQ, DQ. we just need a few more and we can perfectly quantify ideal candidates.
In physics they do the same no? Come up with tons of new particles all the time.
@hasty stump hey
How's it going?
Do you know why I cant open my mic there?
!voice
Canβt talk in voice chat? Check out #voice-verification to get access. The criteria for verifying are specified there.
you have to be verified
I'm doing good, I was just going over some practice lessons
for the voice verification you're likely missing the activity and message requirements
are you new to Python?
!e
print("Hello, Igui!")
:white_check_mark: Your 3.13 eval job has completed with return code 0.
Hello, Igui!
Yhea.
I think I can share my screen
I built an IDE for python, and will extend it to support Mathmatics also.
I don't even have permission to share my screen here, you need mod approval. The server is a bit strict
Oh, unfortunately I can't share my screen here.
Yhea.
Oh, that's cool, once I get better I want to make some cool charts and stuff
But that's good, I think there is a lot of kids here.
Heyy
Hey
With turtle?
@silk mica hey
Or any other lib?
hey
not sure
@hasty stump π
i want to do some data analysis eventually @hasty stump
Like something cool
So what is it, that you guys have recently found about programming which changed your struggles?
There is a lot of libs to build charts in python.
I have a budget and I want to make charts and stuff on that
Also with my home lab I can make graphs with the system analytics I collect on my SNMP server
I already can with Graphana but I want to try it myself
I learned a bit of SQL lately and want to play with that
Why don't you give grafana a try for that
So many possibles interpretations.
I'm also taking a cryptography class right now and I'd like to see if I can implement encryption using python
Yep! I saw that coming π
Do you want to create your own lib, is it?
well, i guess it is spelled wrong anyways
Which db are you using, a tsdb one?
i haven't thought that far ahead, I'd leverage other libraries, I mostly just wanna do it to try
i think, lemme show you
hold up, I can't get to my grafana right now, the cert expired, gotta renew it or something
We are capturing carbon emissions across an organisation for that we used influxDB.
Can't speak, I suppose you know why π
that sounds complicated
Oh, ok.
hello
@whole bear @summer skiff π
hi
At the initial stage it was, but now we are tryna give it a business value where they can increase their efficiency or reduce emissions.
all my web certs expired 5 days ago and I didn't notice
How are you using grafana, as a cloud or onPrem?
on prem with my home lab
i renewed the cert but the old one is still cached in my browser
I just used a different browser for now
@late gulch
Understood
ya, it's a time series
Which db are you using to store these stats?
it comes from Zabbix, I think it's PostgreSQL
there is special plugin for Zabbix in Grafana
But postgresql doesn't support time series data or does it?
I use that because SQL queries on the Zabbix db isn't intuitive, so many tables
ya, it's using PostgreSQL
I don't know, maybe Grafana does something with the data
but even then within Zabbix itself there are graphs
like so
https://www.zabbix.com/
Awesome β¨β¨
it's a pretty neat SNMP system, just comes with setting up SNMP which sucks
like you can install agents on compatible machines but if you want to configure it to talk strictly SNMP then it's a bit of a headache, especially with v3
Can you also monitor endpoints via this?
Are those agents homegrown or if they are bundled with this package
if for example CPU usage is too high for an extended period of time on one of my servers it triggers an alert and pings my phone
you install them from a repo
Are those genuine or maybe MIT licensed
Can you please share the repo
