It fine to prefer Rust over Python. In fact, I think that for every niche use case, there is at least one language specifically adapted for that case.
yeah
sqlx?
you know ive never had so many people reply to me than rn on these random rust and python opinions in this chat
like damn usually noone gives a shit what i say
i havent looked into the history of sqlx yet
as in whether its related to the go package with the same name
i think sqlc (go) took stuff from sqlx (go) and sqlx (rust)
@wind raptor @primal shadow who ever mention
i mean who ever mention
i didn't notice who said hi
-ed suffix "ed" applied to the end of a word, like mention, to mentioned, changes the tense of the word, to meaning something that happened before.
no no i already did it here it's morning

That's day trading or long term holding...
What's the differnce between a day or a month?
gains are gains
no
?
The board cares about small shareholders?
Buy my stock of Tesla and tell them to fire Elon, lol.
No one cares
I still have no idea how profiting from day trading is different than longer term trading
either way, you're taking money from others
the market is a big old scam
Look at Tesla's PE, it's horse shit
"invest" and "trade" are one in the same if you're talking stocks
you buy stocks, hold them, sell them
whether it's a minute, a month, or a year
you're not makign the money yourself, you're taking it from others
You generate zero value for others with the money holding and shifting scheme, might generate wealth for those who time things better than you... but not making ANYTHING Of value to the world by "investing" in the S&P or DJ
Invest in a small company? Sure, you might make a difference
The government lies to the people, that's a pretty standard thing across the globe.
Why are we gonna pretend it's unique to any one country.
Like... the current US President?
Who is famous for scamming
but got elected
...
@molten pewter
what do yo umean?
We literally elected a serial liar to the top office
This whole "it's unique elsewhere and we're not guilty" is fucking stupid
How about hte last one?'
Or the one before that?
or the one before htat?
WE have a history of hiring shitty politicians
no
DC Is full of scum
elected year after year
Mitch McConnell has been fucking us over 30 years
Doesn't stop Americans from voting for the shitbag
They all suck
and you're pretending they don't
I don't get it
Most American Politicians are fuckingshit
What?
How is it "the most powerful" when there's two sides with a leader on eahc...
and then the president as well, leads his branch
the chief justice and co can fuck round all they want too
Senate does too
so majority leader of the senate needs to also push things along
ANd there's EO's
which basically say, "I don't need congress"
Johnson is not more powerful than Trump
Trump says jump, Johnson begins frantically jumping asking "is this high enough, dear leader?"
So we can talk about how it should be, or how it is
I live in reality
not in theory
So what happens in reality is what matters
talking about what would be in theory if things were to go how they should, well
we know that's not how reality works
so it's an exercise in.... wasting time in my opinion
And you continue to forget
that Johnson and the rest of the GOP
does whatever trump wants
so you know, the checks and balances
they're off the clock for now
100%
this is the reality in which we live
not the theory of what should be if things went they way they should
@potent flare ๐

Tbh Corporation has its own AI for employees, employee are prohibited to use third party AI which is not regulated by the corporation
@worthy timber just read the docs and watch visual tutorials until you can build alone without any help besides the docs
the only option of using ai for coding, which im considering, is to force ai to develop tools to check its own code
features last, code quality first
by CLI AI tool , you use something like IDE plugin (e.g. aider) switching between models like GPT, Gemini ...etc ?
as in ai writes code analysers for its own code
After all it is a for-profit company.
They may talk blah blah about the benefits of humanity but the actual goal is to suck the money and be rich
If AI can replace major jobs in the market, who would consume it?
Less employees mean less money in the hands of people and less money means eventually slowed demand.
All those talk about AI replacing humans is absolutely ridiculous, the economy won't work like that

im too disoriented for programming, time to do gaming
I am reading / checking what free AI coding tools to use, currently I dunno much about it (still simply use GPT, Gemini, aider ... etc)
I just found pocketflow which claims to be able to analyze codebase , not sure anyone uses it ?
Back in a bit ๐

very terse "100 lines of code"

pocketflow/__init__.py line 85
while curr: curr.set_params(p); last_action=await curr._run_async(shared) if isinstance(curr,AsyncNode) else curr._run(shared); curr=copy.copy(self.get_next_node(curr,last_action))```
I am not sure whether users have to build their own agent based on this repo (or there is already existing one) , might spend time trying it later

!d ast
Source code: Lib/ast.py
The ast module helps Python applications to process trees of the Python abstract syntax grammar. The abstract syntax itself might change with each Python release; this module helps to find out programmatically what the current grammar looks like.
An abstract syntax tree can be generated by passing ast.PyCF_ONLY_AST as a flag to the compile() built-in function, or using the parse() helper provided in this module. The result will be a tree of objects whose classes all inherit from ast.AST. An abstract syntax tree can be compiled into a Python code object using the built-in compile() function.

ast.literal_eval(node_or_string)```
Evaluate an expression node or a string containing only a Python literal or container display. The string or node provided may only consist of the following Python literal structures: strings, bytes, numbers, tuples, lists, dicts, sets, booleans, `None` and `Ellipsis`.
This can be used for evaluating strings containing Python values without the need to parse the values oneself. It is not capable of evaluating arbitrarily complex expressions, for example involving operators or indexing.

vscode/vim
what u use>
vim or neaovim
is vscode fit for django web development cuz most tuts i see online show them using pycharm
pycharm has more extensive built-in support for django
you can add extension live server for html pages, idk if that works for django
vscode is more of a universal "pick your own extensions" thing
for full stack development the ffeatures that people use on pycharm do they work on vscode
oh
you have a tab called extensions and there you can choose/ search for your extensions, even unsuported languages can be suported with a extension
ye ik
but like for full stack development what would you guys use
whwat extensions
k
the closest to "full stack" single-framework i use is probably nextjs
relevant extensions:
eslint, markdownlint, prettier
i literally have nothing else js-related
well, markdownlint isnt even js-related
only indirectly for stuff like astro
js/ts support is built into vscode itself
it doesnt even really require an ide to work with
(for running and live-reload)
((ide gives you only the intellisense part))

So, what happens when you lock a Python programmer in a secret vault containing 1.5 TBytes of C++ source code and no internet connection? Find out as I describe how I used Python as a secret weapon of "discovery" in an epic legal battle.

The Sphynx cat (pronounced SFINKS, ) also known as the Canadian Sphynx, is a breed of cat known for its lack of fur. Hairlessness in cats is a naturally occurring genetic mutation, and the Sphynx was developed through selective breeding of these animals, starting in the 1960s.
The skin has a texture of chamois leather, as it has fine hairs, or...

on checkout?
I'm trying to pull and push, but it doesn't let me.
Yeah.
I'm trying to push commit, but it doesn't let me.
so, on pull specifically
make a diff/patch
store it elsewhere
What's the command for it?
Hallo
@upper basin do not do anything on your current repo
at all
do not apply any commands
copy it in a temporary directory
@upper basin if you rebased, you must not pull-push, you actually need --force-with-lease
because rebase rewrote history
@upper basin first, fetch
@upper basin use proper interface (cli)
git pull
@upper basin are you pusing code to your own repo and branch?
@upper basin does it incorporate the whole history of the original repo?
Yes. I am trying to push to my branch on my repo.
@upper basin is it in the final desired state?
I had to rebase on the advice of someone else.
Yes.
I want whatever I have locally to be on remote (the repo).
as is.
yes
git push --force-with-lease
ignore the incoming changes altogether
if you think you can lose something, you can make an extra branch
@upper basin find .git/objects/ -type f -empty xargs rm
can you generate the diff from the upstream to your current state?
This will teach you not to rebase you history obsessed person.
@upper basin get the commit hash of the upstream
I didn't want to. Someone said that's the only way to fix it.
And then mocked me when it didn't work.
didn't he need to remove empty objects?
2b8d03576d0e315f0f1d651865f80b1e93dff4e1
does this work
git diff 2b8d03576d0e315f0f1d651865f80b1e93dff4e1..HEAD > changes.patch
as in not fail
(.venv) ace07@LAPTOP-2OG3CC4V:~/Documents/GitHub/mitiq$ git diff 2b8d03576d0e315f0f1d651865f80b1e93dff4e1..HEAD > changes.patch
error: object file .git/objects/eb/092a562ed88296e4fb9d8f6aef21d3ef001ce1 is empty
fatal: unable to read eb092a562ed88296e4fb9d8f6aef21d3ef001ce1
well, that kind of looks like something in what you committed locally is broken
in the recent committs applied on top of what you had pulled
can you copy the entire directory so that you can test whether you can check out 2b8d03576d0e315f0f1d651865f80b1e93dff4e1?
What do you mean by copy the entire directory?
project/ <- this
.git/
project-copy <- new
.git/
You want a local copy of the src?
@upper basin
cd ../repo-tmp
git checkout 2b8d03576d0e315f0f1d651865f80b1e93dff4e1
@upper basin now try replacing the files and making a new single commit with all changes
copy everything except .git from the main directory to this temporary one
Like go through every single file and manually copy paste them?
There is no .git in the directory afais
vscode hides it
(files.exclude setting if you want to disable hiding)
@upper basin is it lfs?
lfs?
large file something
idk what s stands for
storage probably
git-lfs
@stark oxide define oop
I'll have a look once I copy the things in.
if its not lfs, very very bad
why?
python is object-oriented on its own
just by using standalone functions you can write very oo code
especially if you involve threads, coroutines, generators, processes, closure, and some other things
What happens if I just publish the branch we made that was copy of types-deprecation (branch that's having issue)?
the history is broken, you cant really publish it
even if you bypass the local checks, github will reject it
So, save all files somewhere else, delete the whole thing, re-clone to fix .git?
@stark oxide you will find eventually that oop has many different definitions
And then put them back in?
so that was a trick question
what we are currently doing is just applying all changes in a single commit on top of upstream
to get a valid change saved in history
Okay. I'll follow your lead then.
that wil be one day
Please react with โ
to upload your file(s) to our paste bin, which is more accessible for some users.
erlang and smalltalk have a slightly different view on objects
thoughts?
@upper basin it wouldve probably been faster to use rsync, but thats just something to remember for the next time
Understood.
@stark oxide its quite good when used with async
for the same amount of effort, asynchronous python often outperforms c++
just because of how bad c++ is with asynchrony

Hi
@proper grove easyanticheat refuses to function when you have dtrace installed on windows
its a solaris thing
borrowed into macos then windows
also probably bsd
linux doesnt have it
it allows to dynamically instrument software, including the kernel
you can probably see how that would upset the "anti-cheat"
almost everything
@proper grove in my experience, ubuntu is horrible
idk how but i just constantly run into dozens of edge cases that happen almost exclusively there
guy girl
its alright but just gnome is strange for new users and ubuntu is primarily aimed at new users
I finished copying.
try committing
under some unusual circumstances, lx zones outperform linux
not sure if you can hit those circumstances with games
It made Identifier bs.
@tender mulch ๐
you can probably delete them
command please?
