I'd like to be in Finland, have some real winters again.
sudden call happened
Be able to see the Lights more reliably too
Living at 43 N is getting a little too warm for me.
i hate dynamic table creation i hate dynamic table creation i hate dynamic table creation
why is everything always so broken when that is done
I won't give me exact coords, but 70 W 40 N is pretty close. It's also the "If a storm center is west of there we get lots of snow, if the storm center is east of there we get nothing."
could be worse, could be manual. with punch cards.
why do I have to teach basic SQL rules so radically for things to work at all
One of the first things I checked was the water heater/furnace room and it smelled fairly strongly of gas. I know in the house I used to live in, the smell of gas was never that strong.
There were water spots under the sinks in both the master and hall bathrooms that concerned me as well. It wasn't to the point where the wood was warping, but that would still be something I would look into.
There were a couple screens that were busted in the windows.
There were scrapes and chipped paint around some of the door handles (which is a minor thing but it still caught my attention).
Just outside of the crawlspace door there was a very large hole or divot in the dirt. My concern there is rain water accumulation that could soak and go under the house. In the previous house we lived in, we had a foundation crack and sliding, so those kinds of things make me a bit paranoid.
The door to the crawlspace was also locked so I wasn't able to investigate under the house to see if there were any issues with foundation sliding, mold or mildew, possible signs of animals living under there, etc.
This is a small one, but when you enter the house into the main room, if you turn to the right and face that wall there is a separation in the paint between where the wall and the ceiling join at that corner. It stuck out to me because of previous roof sliding issues I've seen in other locations.
The last one that jumped out at me was the wooden framing around the garage door on the outside. It was rather greened and didn't appear to be weatherized. While that wouldn't be an issue for a tenant for a quite a few years, I would still look into getting the wood treated or painted to protect it.
I apologize for the long list, but I thought it was worth bringing up for future tours.
I wish my landlord was this specific. they just said "you need to clean your kitchen and bathroom" and gave no specifics.
Especially grating since I did clean them.
Apartment, hemlock lives in apartment?
commieblocks, the superior form of housing
I'd argue mixed-use brownstones are slightly better.
Or perhaps mixed-use commieblocks. Ground floor is cafes/retail, upper floors are residential/offices. Everything is walkable as a result.
$2200/month seems sane in some places in Moscow
I'm in a 1 bedroom for $1700/month but only because they accidentally lowered the rent instead of raising it, and I signed the renewal before they had a chance to fix it.
The total is still closer to $2000/month because I pay for a parking spot underground. In a downtown area. in a city that still gets snow sometimes.
Really?
and because I live in a car dependent area.
And this is why I'm happy I live in a low cost of living area

or is it Missour-able
I cannot handle the heat/culture in the low CoL areas...
The State of Missouri is The State of Misery
in 2013 Marseille apartment rental prices were only 1.5~2x that of Moscow (and less square metres in Moscow than in Marseille)
so like even back then it was not cheap here, nearly European prices
Missouri, Ohio, and New Jersey: The three states people love to shit on.
Despite the fact that, climate-wise, Ohio is probably the safest place a person can move to right now.
Really?
You guys pay 1 / 8 of earning in rent!
I don't have a basement, I live on the 4th floor of an 1820s cotton mill.
in 2013, 50% in rent in Moscow is normal

Damn!
The term we use in this case is Levant.
So what exactly is your obsession with posting stuff about me?
I'm curious
They would've spoken Aramaic in the levant, although there may have been packets of Latin and/or Ancient Greek due to the Empire and/or Alexander the Great
I was more interested in the Achaemenid Empire than the Roman Empire.
agnosticism is a weird thing too
ikr
I think you’d make a great voice actor! At the 1:20 mark, your voice changed, and I found it really funny.
I tried to be at one point
@rugged root afaik it's about "you can't know" dogma
I'm not religious...unless we're talking about the correct way to do italian cooking.
Or arguing over bbq sauces.
Or arguing over which programming language is best.
But I wouldn't have a chance to anymore
uhhh
I knew!
I think we should just stop using the term it's too misused already

I live in an area where everything is considered gender neutral, but only because we tend to not take gender into account when we're road raging. We are equal opportunity assholes in the northeastern US.
Jikky, calm down, we get it.
Jikky is being hyper sensitive!
😂
Au contraire, you can use all sexist terms against genderqueer folks like jikky and I. They all apply.
Jikky is enby, and I'm genderfluid. It works out.
How much did you have where 5% is hitting you that hard? The beers we have here are usually 11%.
Red beers
New England breweries make 'em strong.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India_pale_ale @rugged root
India pale ale (IPA) is a hoppy beer style within the broader category of pale ale. It originated in the United Kingdom to be exported to India, which was under the control of the British East India Company until 1858. Its higher hop content acted as a natural preservative, preventing it from spoiling during the long shipping voyage. IPA has sin...

lol yeah
@rugged root that's too bad becuase I am a huge fan of New England IPAs. They're like regular IPAs except even stronger flavors, and almost never transparent.
I like coffee stouts as well
Ok I cannot do stouts. Too bitter for me.
My preferred drink, though, is Downeast Cider.
stdout
Sorry, stouts are too bitter, but IPAs are fine?
:L
IPAs have more pleasant flavors to me.
I hate cider :L
How dare you
:fingeremoji:
I think alcohol should be banned nation wide!
@rugged root describe the sound of displeasement you make when drinking IPA according to this table:
I'm not even drunk and that confuses the shit out of me
There's a brewery in the I-95/MA-128 ring that does a wicked good Wild Maine Blueberry Ale.

@rugged root tbh anywhere south of the mason-dixon line isn't safe for us queers.
Kvass
i think all substances should be legalised, regulated, taxed, and educated about
I want to try kvass someday.
I just use my fermentation vessels for kombucha, so I haven't had a chance to make any kvass. Anyone know if the LifeOfBoris recipe actually works?
the lifeforms involved in its creation start breaking down alcohol when it reaches that point
Wait, what's a fermentation vessel? Like I know the intent, I've just never heard of a specific product or something being that other than at breweries

Hello
It doesn’t matter to me—alcohol should be banned. I lost my grandfather in the worst way possible because of tobacco and alcohol. No one in my family drinks or smokes, and we prefer to stay away from those who do.
bcantrill made a mistake of sharing with his mother how one of the managers called him "first grade debugger" instead of "first rate debugger"
I'm quite willing to leave the US if I have to, but I'd much rather stay here if possible. That "if possible" is doing a lot of heavy lifting these days.
@wind raptor would you like to see the soldier?
I feel the same way about added sugars
should be banned
!
you will always have that option

The issue is that I've become somewhat dependent on cannabis as a sleep aid, so I'd have to be in an area where that's legal.
There are dry counties in the US. The next town south of me (Dunstable) is a dry town.
As in it is illegal to buy and sell alcohol in that town.
"and that's why ФСКН was involved in drug trade, right?"
Oh it is quite easy to overdose on something "clean"
Then again, I do live in an area where we, out of necessity, have narcan dispensers on every single street corner.
I don't really drink alcohol these days, I mostly replaced it with cannabis.
At most I'll have two drinks, but only if someone else pays. It's a very good system for staying sober.

By ‘banned,’ I mean alcohol shouldn’t be readily available like groceries. In dry states, people can still drink as much as they want, but only with a legal permit. I believe access should be strictly controlled.

Former Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew was grilled on BBC HARDtalk, an in-depth interview with hard-hitting questions posted by host Tim Sebastian.
The topic of human rights issues in Singapore, and the death penalty for drug traffickers in Singapore arose. Lee explains Singapore's stance for the capital punishment.

do i download the file and sent it here ?
I'm just skipping that step and compiling directly in /nvlm
if you have a GitHub (or somewhere else) repo, you can send a link to that;
if you only have the file locally, you can use the pastebin from that message
I don't fw devcontainers, but that's mostly because I use neovim instead of vscode. So I usually just use volume management to work with the files and run in a throwaway pod.
Please react with ✅ to upload your file(s) to our paste bin, which is more accessible for some users.

@woeful salmon Two issues. For some of the animations I needed much more space compared to the 90 other percent. Like death animations have blood splatter which needs more space, soldier_3 has smoke flare animation, so we need to do sth about their offsets.
There's also the speed issue. The frames need to be changed much faster.
Besides that, the animation coding should be done.
Next we have to add the collisions (Banjo hitting soldiers, soldiers shooting at Banjo, Banjo walking past soldiers).
all frames don't need to be the same size you could add some size variance
make clean wouldn't work

I have no idea why it would do that
yes
oh look I even remember how to spell
Whelp guess I'll try the onbuild and see what happens
Russia started with non-quad drones mostly afaik
yeah, things have advanced quite a bit
quad are easier to procure, since you can just buy them instead of assembling
Hmm, no still making/pulling arm64
quad copter power consumption - very inneficient
ig
nimlang/nim
Just did docker pull nimlang/nim --platform amd64
So it should work
Or not
RF quiet so no interception @dry jasper
Well. Shit

PFM-1 is a cursed mine, one of the artillery-deployed ones
I'm poking them on the Nim Discord server. I guess if they don't have anything it's back to just snagging a regular ubuntu build
Catch you later, bud
Don't wanna cut the conversation lol, so just thought to say it in chat instead
Aye

Has anyone been as far as to create a RTS in python/pygame?

Screw it, going with a base ubuntu and going from there
on all 6 sides of my room no one lives most of the time
I can be noisy without causing issues
I clicked something in the dev tools and I can't get it back into responsive mobile mode

if they're doing it ideologically then where's riscv image
Right?
what did prisma do
sqlx is fun
in Rust
and not an ORM
it has almost no mapping part
sqlx uses the exact query you write
no query building
therefore no genericity over different database
s
which I'm actually fine with
postgres and sqlite very different operational characteristics
and why would you ever mysql
I have been pretty much exclusively using psql for years now
except being sponsored by planetscale
I think I have mysql hosted for applications that use it 😔
from my experience of mysql/mariadb, mariadb has better operational characteristics
@gentle flint write your own extensions
no
Generate type-safe code from SQL. Contribute to sqlc-dev/sqlc development by creating an account on GitHub.
pgadmin's visualisations are too good to give up
this is fine
attempt at competing with Django ig
I think hata's dev is going to refuse pyproject.toml too
@gentle flint or in !ot
but, tbf, that's a one-person project
@reef warren yes
way more so than setup.py or requirements.txt
pyproject.toml is still somewhat confusing
use uv
and for VSCode install `even better toml' extension
or whatever the equivalent for the IDE you're using
it understands various .toml formats
npm i ... -> uv add ...
npm i && npm run ... -> uv run ...
yeah, we're discussing things in VC
is there any topic you'd be willing to discuss?
naturally engage in conversations don't just write messages for the sake of reaching the number
what were you going to discuss in the VC once you get verified?
a bit of a random question, but does anyone why does NodeJS takes >8h to compile on a 2017 macbook air?
about web deb and devops
C++
C++ is not fast to compile, on par with Rust
also that's kind of an old macbook
pre-M
@vocal basin are you admin ?
do you work on any open-source web projects?
no
not a open source but a persnol project

Desi Oon – Where Wool Speaks, and We Must Listen
In this heartfelt six-minute film, wool itself becomes the storyteller, voicing the neglect it has suffered for generations. Once a sacred bond between humans, animals, and nature, wool now stands forgotten in the wake of urbanisation and industrial change.
Desi Oon is also a tribute to the re...

@vocal basin hey listen i have a quesion for u
what is the question?
.
ooo sry
Hello
are you deploying on cloud or on premise?
You are riding an ant.
Change the version of Node which is preferred on your Mac!
i am a devops enginner
I'm doing some amount of devops work too, and nothing of it is directly cloud-related
thank you!
i do full stack but i just come here for meet telented person
Locking pliers (also called Vise-Grips, Mole wrench or Mole grips) are pliers that can be locked into position, using an "over-center" cam action. Locking pliers are available with many different jaw styles, such as needle-nose pliers, wrenches, clamps and various shapes to fix metal parts for welding. They also come in many sizes.
Mention Not!
I have a data frame with categorical values that I converted using pd.get_dummies, is there a way to return the data frame with the updated dummy values without creating two extra columns (True/False) ? The extra columns are causing a headache trying to model... TIA
I do use some "cloud-native"-adjacent/"serverless"-related techniques/technologies but I don't apply them to actual cloud
what's full-stack in your definition?
just some server-side code or comprehensive implementation of everything on the server?
can anyone hear me?
I have heard coffee is bad
It's why I stopped drinking it before leaving for work
less stressful commute
no
@dry jasper Coffee gives you winngs!!
Leonardo DiCaprio will get there

Who's in the house?
The long s, ⟨ſ⟩, also known as the medial s or initial s, is an archaic form of the lowercase letter ⟨s⟩, found mostly in works from the late 8th to early 19th centuries. It replaced one or both of the letters s in a double-s sequence (e.g., "ſinfulneſs" for "sinfulness" and "poſſeſs" or "poſseſs" for "possess", but never "poſſ...

Not so bad, not so good!
I feel you
I think I might be banned
not dead yet
But I like to use this gif

used all over europe for centuries
Nah bro, I can be banned
@supple cove I think it's better to express that thought in writing
instead of derailing the conversation
Hey, I just finished a Python course (no frameworks) and want to practice before moving on. Any good project ideas to sharpen my skills?
whether that writing is teletyped, cursive or whatever else, that's a separate topic
Is it wrong to want to yell at my headphones for not working
My singnature is in cursive
!stream 381154715293188106
Mine too
✅ @dry jasper can now stream until <t:1743100321:f>.
as I'm lazy
not as long as they're not working
let's just make a score. Who would ever do anything that could possibly alter the maximal profits?
@dry jasper did you know the cursive r is supposed to be like cursive ч?
What if the best outcome is based on minimal sustainable profits?
that seems to be the prevailing option because it's quicker
Mine is really super ultra ugly, but GPT-4oImageCoverage is (will be) so very kind
@peak depot I think Russian schools still have mandatory cursive
OMG we forgot to compromize the 1992 Unicode Working Group
so 𝚛?
The Department of Education’s What Works Clearinghouse was wiped out by the first round of DOGE cuts to the Institute for Educational Sciences, cancelling five WWC contracts -- more than any other program, office, or project. Stanford’s SCALE (Systems Change Advancing Learning and Equity) Initiative learning accelerator has stepped forward with a Generative AI for Education Research Study Repository: https://scale.stanford.edu/genai/repository which replaces some of the WWC functions in that narrow sub-field.
A collection of all generative AI research on education (with a focus on K12) including descriptive research (product development and implementation and use), quasi-experimental, randomized controlled trials, and systematic reviews.

I wonder how this case will go

What is even happening anymore
There was such a fun chat, now one person is talking about Elon
well, no one is talking
audio and video, but the one people think is more important is actually less important
Dude, I like you are into those stuff
But make sure to involve the audience as well
sorry that I cannot steer the conversation towards coherence, because text
@supple cove Could you explain again?
Imagine you had 2^230 monkeys to expend on a writing task. How would you organize them?
!e
print((2 ^ 229) > (2 ^ 230))
:white_check_mark: Your 3.12 eval job has completed with return code 0.
True
Given that 2^230 is an incomprehensibly large number (~10^68), I'd structure them in tiers:
1) Supervisory Monkeys: A select fraction (say, 2^200) would oversee efficiency and quality control.
2) Editing Monkey: Another segment(~2^180) would proofread, ensuring coherence.
3) Writing Monkey: The vast majority(~2^229) would generate content nonstop.
Corrected code using the exponentiation operator (**)
print((2 ** 229) > (2 ** 230))
print((2 ** 229) > (2 ** 230))
yeah, it was a joke
also please no LLMs without disclosure
and use ``` for code blocks
!code
my bad
I have granted any audience CC0 rights to most of my work? Could I even disclose LLMs if I wanted to?
lmao not you
and also `` for code objects and etc.
I was saying what I said because the code you pasted looks very LLM-generated
and we have rule 10
!rule 10
if you actually get code from an LLM, make sure to include that fact as part of the message or surrounding context
```hey look I'm trying to quote code:
print(2/3)
```py
print(2 / 3)
```
[what do I put here?]```
I so much can pretend-respond to that like an LLM lmao
because I actually know the topic of Church's computational model and Turing's more modern approach
I'm not a bot. I'm a flesh-and-blood human trying to reach out to you to create an understanding about preserving our species.
yeah, sure, my claim was only about the code sample
So you're saying you think I'm a bot?
oh good lol omg <<<hugss<<<333333
people rarely write comments like that in real code
Because the audioence is too wide
especially when they want to explain something in a conversation rather than a code file
audience*
yes, but actualy no.
Stop yapping
I'd expect even advanced LLMs today understand Markdown well enough that they won't use that comment style if you prompt correctly
IS THAT GEN Z SLANG I SEE?
history repeats
actually you should really avoid just turning an exception into a string
because often what you get is ""
