Thinking
sure
If I did it'd be temporary, not the full blown role
If it helps in your decision, today I was searching on google severs to talk with people about programming, and I found this one
alr
Fair. VC here tends to be general topics (as you can hear here). Granted programming does come up a lot obviously.
(I'm chatting with you here to help with your message count)
And because I like chilling and talking with folks
Typically we try to watch the text channel when we're in VC to make sure people aren't left out
yes, actually it was what I was seeking, a sever to talk with people with the same interests
Fair fair
oh thanks
thats nice
The 50 messages is meant to encourage server engagement in general
Although it's hit and miss if it works
how did you and the others admins created this channel? And got it so many people in here
The channel or the server?
the server
I wasn't here when the server started. I joined when it was like.... I think it was ~5k or 20k, genuinely can't remember which
But honestly it's just find a niche and fill it
Before I was on here I was a helper on another server called "Do You Even Python"
We merged with here and I got brought on as staff
There hasn't been a point where I've been on this server and not been staff
that's nice
I always been curious about this discord world
I think it's the environment we have. We have people helping who love the language, love educating, and we do our best to snuff out toxic behavior as quickly as possible. Trying to make the server comfortable for everyone to learn and what not
I've been told we're uncommon in that regard
I've certainly been in some servers that were absolute cess pools
yes, I actually had never seen a sever with so nice people, when I joined the call Henry and Im the cat said hello to me and all, and now you're helping me here
also, of 4 programming servers I joined this is the only with voice chat
There's a couple that have them
One of the Rust servers has a relatively active one
(can't remember which of the two it is, though)
But you're right, most of the other programming servers just doesn't have a very active VC
I think a big part of that may be the culture or what not
We have a lot of students, students like to talk
Some of those other servers may primarily be professionals in those fields
We cater to folks just starting out. Which isn't to say we don't have professionals as well, but we always see an influx of folks when the new semesters start
sure, and a lot of people is interest in understand python
Yep, approachable language means more folks interested

Are you just starting out with Python or do you have some experience with it?
I didn't got the 50 msgs yet
I'm on the first semester of computer science, but I programmed in python in the past
Now I was interest in AI, ML
Yeah that's the trend
but I know it need a lot of math
That stuff goes a bit over my head, yeah
so I was in doubt if I waited my college get in the math part, or if I started learning about it before I get teached by my college
:incoming_envelope: :ok_hand: applied timeout to @whole bear until <t:1733768915:f> (10 minutes) (reason: duplicates spam - sent 4 duplicate messages).
The <@&831776746206265384> have been alerted for review.
I was thinking in starting making some automation's with python
but its difficult for me also lol
@whole bear If you'd please read #voice-verification, it mentions not to spam to get your message count up
What kind of stuff? I'm currently futzing around with making an API wrapper (which is not as cool or fancy as it sounds)
I acctualy don't know yet, I was thinking in automate something that could make me money
One thing I will say is keep in mind the kinds of questions you can ask on the server
!rule 5
5. Do not provide or request help on projects that may violate terms of service, or that may be deemed inappropriate, malicious, or illegal.
I'm not saying you'd be doing the last two, but it's easy to violate terms of service with some automation
Depending on what you're doing, of course
This isn't to say if you ask the wrong question you'll get banned
More a reminder nudge
Well not just Discord. Like shopping sites or what have you. Automating making new accounts violates the crap out of most terms of services out there
oh, okay
I was thinking about those instagrams accounts that shows promotions, but the owner has to be there searching about it
I was thinking in automate the search
Like to increase hits or views to that ad?
no, if you want to promote promotions in an instagram account you'll have to search them
discounts*
Ah, I getcha. To my knowledge Instagram has an API for making bots/apps that they support
I'd have to hunt for it, mind you
oh that's nice
Fine. And it's easy enough to hit the message count without spacing out your messages like that. You'll still have to wait the 3 days anyway
So spamming your way to it isn't the way to go
@rugged root when I get my 50 msgs could you allow me to speak in the chat?
I really wanted to talk with them
Why do i have to wait the 3days?
@whole bear We had an issue with what I call hit and run trolls. People who join the server, join voice chat, scream at the top of their lungs and then leave. This was happening a dozen or more times a day
Seems funny, but nah. Was not my intention so yh
Seems funny
Uh....huh
Yh not the trolls.. but that they have fr too much time, wasting on ban speedruns
Yep, hence the voicegate
Brooo it soo cringe asf wait. Can i send media in here
Yhh
Yeah you can
Oh it's been that way for a while
The statue of Homeless Jesus was created to inspire people to help people in their community but instead people keep calling the police to report a homeless man sleeping on a park bench.
The more you push it the less I'd want to make an exception
I think that's reasonable
Can be
Seizures are associated with epilepsy, but you can have them from other causes as well
He meant epilepsy i think
Gotcha gotcha
Dafuq? https://www.logitech.com/en-us/products/promotions/pop-puzzle-cube.956-000069.html
Why was this in my cart on the logitech site
25 dollars for a rubicks cube is crazy
But imo is 80% of the getting homeless cases, self making bad decisions in life etc, there are ofc a lot of factors that could manipulate your environment, but mostly its on their own i think
It's giving it to me for free, so I guess I'll just have it?
oh, in that case sure
Just wasn't expecting it
Bro this girl is yapping whole story. she goes from one topic to another, becoming a bit incoherent
No offense
In vv
Vc
...how could that be seen as anything but offensive?
Idk
I dont wnt to insult som1
but you're mate
Nah how am i?
I think it's the "yapping" and "incoherent" parts
She's talking about something relevant to the conversation
everyone having fun and you criticizing the girl
Yh but, look imo its valid, and i am allowed to say right?
No not criticing
I Just said it, it was very noticeable
But are People fastly offended here?
Alr
Depends on the person, but it did make me raise an eyebrow
Well yh thats a difference. Theres for sure a correlation btwn frustration and offensive, but in this case i Just said it it wasnt intended to be mean
Okies

@south loom You can't. Not in the traditional sense
Since it relies on the interpreter, you need to have an existing OS

Any project yall been working on
Ah well I just got my hands back again on Python I used to look at this kind of stuff as a kid but now I'm thinking of switching from my music degree to a math-comp/sci track
I need to use my MIC xddd
okay so
let me give you my life story
I am 21, I am Cuban, I am poor lol
Well I haven't gotten a chance to actually visit the motherland, but it is everywhere around me where I live
Yeah it is a cuban community for sure, I am in America
So you probably have a hint as to where I live
I hear it is unliveable over there
You're currently freezing your butt off no?
Yeah the Key West tip is 90 miles off

bruh all i do is watching turtorials and other stuffs
i don't know how to build something

i don't know where to start and what to
Just have a goal
The bare minimum logic for it
Can you share what you've been working on Chris?
Or have worked on
Anything! It would be a pleasure to look and have you explain to me briefly
i don't know any frmework stufffs all i know is how to find factorial and like those things
like a mini calculator
without any userinterface
I know Tkinter can be used for an interface, or Pygame idk
Yeah I really actually enjoy this process of research so that is why this is very interesting to me
what does these projects are ???like an application?a website?

Hi everyone
nothing
is all code currently interacting with circuit_log only through current_log?
@upper basin are you still using suppress_logs anywhere?
@upper basin log all enters and exits of the context manager + all pushes to the log
@upper basin to log as in to trace (logging or print)
@upper basin for now without printing the stack itself, just enter/exit/push
we're looking for an enter-enter sequence
print('enter') at the start of the context manager
print('exit') in the finally
@upper basin only one of those two is a push
@upper basin now run the code
where is the outer enter happening?
@upper basin specific method with with
@upper basin can you confirm (through prints) that it actually follows those steps during execution?
Entering MCRX (circuit side)
push
enter
Decomposing MCRX (circuit side)
Using Gray code decomposition
Applying CU
Entering CU
Entering Phase
enter
exit
Phase doesn't push anything before decompose_last?
@upper basin line 784 doesn't push anything it seems
@upper basin could this be the reason?
print before that return
you need to propagate it somehow
On in a bit, have to call a client
return a boolean from the thing indicating if anything was added
then pass that boolean to the context manager
maybe
@upper basin can you return whatever you add from that method
as in None or dict
the method that appends on the log
@upper basin make it return what it appends
@upper basin
gate = ...
with self.decompose_gate(gate):
...
when gate is None, that context manager is a no-op
@upper basin set to variable, append, return
keep the append
@upper basin
gate = {...}
(...).append(gate)
return gate
needs to be the same object
@upper basin how is decompose_last currently defined?
@upper basin line 342 should use gate
line 340 is missing a yield before return
@midnight agate can hear but (seemingly) some connection issues
sound works
open-source is easiest for that but not the only way
having worked on something proprietary the company uses
@upper basin if you want to decompose it all the way, then it will involve recursion, yes
or stacks
you're going to have use/invent data structures specific to this problem at some point if you want the best performance
but for now list seems enough

hi all
currently making another way to replay events for minesweeper UI
instead of instant replay, have them timed
i might of make an app would python be enough?
you mean timed not instant? seems good too
hi !
give me examples of apps you made if any
well such one can get profit from ads
, and if they can't do that with configuration, they still can just change the code
in the context of open-source
you're talking about open source
yes seems like that
anyone good with copyrights to explain?
anyone here
well how to get it for a new app (if was already made)?
I only know enough about copyright not to make dumb mistakes with licensing/copyright assignment
seems like you are talking about not taking ready codes LOL
by default, you own the code you write, if you don't license it out
whether you can protect your rights to your code is a separate topic, mostly dependent on money
for using others' open source licenses, there are three main cases:
- just attribution is required
- GPL
- BSL
i prefer that before starting making it BTW there's a youtube who said he makes new tool then sell them for 10k-20k, can't someone copy his app?!
GPL: still an open question as to how far it matters, see ZFS not being included in Linux as an example (of an alleged incompatibility)
ok well
BSL: don't compete with the original authors solely by relying on their own product
(in short, oversimplified)
currently working on a competitive multiplayer game
in-browser, not a standalone app
seems good
what about thing like have things timed?
don't use that but could be new
I keep a log of all events that happen in-game
they already include the timestamp of when they happen
but there's no way to replay them yet
well do you need help with python!?
I'm using JS and Rust for the project
JS is the native scripting language of the browser
DOM APIs are expressed in terms of JS
well excuse you are talkin about JAVA SCRIPT right?
yes, that's the language I'm using, JavaScript
yes, I do make browser extensions
give me some examples
back when VK had no dark theme, I made a dark theme extension for it
think it's easier to make one than an app or depends if it's one page app?
seems good
extensions generally don't tend to be very complex
@midnight agate there's also Literal
JS-style
Literal[True]/Literal[False] is used in subprocess for text= kwarg
because the value influences other types
Alisa can i give you a code to fix it? python one

Avoid using exit() to exit your program flow. Use sys.exit() instead. Desired_path is gated behind a condition. If that condition is not met, Desired_path doesn't get defined and when you subsequently reference Desired_path, you get a NameError exception.
That's what the linter is warning of.
Good good.
You could probably hook into things with subprocess.

LoRa (from "Long Range") is a physical proprietary radio communication technique. It is based on spread spectrum modulation techniques derived from chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technology. It was developed by Cycleo, a company of Grenoble, France, and patented in 2014. Cycleo was later acquired by the US company Semtech.

What Drives the Price of Bitcoin? Bitcoin's price is primarily driven by supply, demand, fear, and greed. Some people argue that its price is correlated to its cost of production, its utility as a store of value, or its intrinsic valueβbut if these were true, it would not be as volatile and reactive as it is
@somber heath
yeah
and mining it beacomes harder
cause the hashcode of it becomes much more complex
I truly want to get out of this restriction for ever GOOOOOD
who is the server's admin ?
No

Ok
That's what I'm currently working on
Not great right now, still lots of work to do
I'm a cybersecurity student who is trying to learn scripting , do you guys have any good suggestions for resources
Like Python in general?
I've got plenty of good resources to get you started if you don't really have any Python experience
I don't have any experience in python but I used to do write code in c so I'm familiar with the concepts and how to do things
!resources Gotcha. In that case I'd recommend "A Byte of Python", which is linked on our resources page and is free on their respective site
The Resources page on our website contains a list of hand-selected learning resources that we regularly recommend to both beginners and experts.
I will check it out , thank you

can someone help me with my imports erroring
Sure, can you show the error and the code?
can i pm?
I prefer not. It's typically better to post questions here in the server so that more eyes can see the question and answer
And I often have to step away from my desk, so I at any given time might not be able to answer
ok posting now

here are a couple pics, Im trying to set up a multi menu program so I can use all the programs from the past and import them.

Not yet, there's been too much going on

You should try day 2. Noodle had the coolest solution to it.
Sorry, I could swear I wrote out my answer but it apparently didn't take. Since it's in the same folder and you're running the script from inside that folder, you don't need to do the ciphers prefix
Apologies for the delay
also when I run the program its asking me to input my encrypt for my reverse cipher instead of going to the submenu in my program @rugged root
!paste Can you toss your code in a pastebin? We've got one we host. It'll be easier to hunt down the issues than trying to look through screenshots
If your code is too long to fit in a codeblock in Discord, you can paste your code here:
https://paste.pythondiscord.com/
After pasting your code, save it by clicking the Paste! button in the bottom left, or by pressing CTRL + S. After doing that, you will be navigated to the new paste's page. Copy the URL and post it here so others can see it.
they already answered you about that (cybersecurity) like 2 days ago π
probably was a different person? not sure, ive only been active here since yesterday or the day before
i was never in vc with any of the people in here before and I always wanna seek different advice and perspectives from different people
it could've been me though
it s easy to recognize your voice π 14 yo π
explore what they already provided you π
mhm, i actually have already finished any courses that were recommended to me in the past few days. I don't think it hurts to ask for advice from different people? For example, I didn't know that the cybersecurity channel had useful courses for different paths but now I know because I asked Mr Hemlock, i already enrolled into one of them and saved the others for later.
@upper basin can you explain quantum processing
Uhh, that's like asking what is computation. It's essentially quantum computing.
i hate this
Performing computation on a hardware which behaves quantum mechanically.
ho
how do they greet the quants to a superposition
hi was better
yo?
So, physically speaking, quantum particles (like electrons, like photons) they exhibit wave-particle duality. In simpler terms, that means they can be either a specific coordinate, or a wave function. That's quantum superposition. You can think of a coin as a quantum bit. Imagine up and down to be particle states. Imagine the state where the coin is in the air to be the wave function state (although I hate this example since you can know for sure what the up side is going to be using classical physics, but whatever).
What quantum computers do is they force quantum particles to be in a wave state, aka a state where the particle is not up or down, but in between.
:incoming_envelope: :ok_hand: applied timeout to @pine oak until <t:1733946912:f> (10 minutes) (reason: chars spam - sent 4576 characters).
The <@&831776746206265384> have been alerted for review.
You can also visualize it like an arrow. Classically, the arrow either points up, or down. Quantum version can point sideways, so half up, half down.
can anything be in a superposition? what about the coin
Mechanically speaking, yes. You can represent the state of any system with multiple possible states as a vector where each element is the probability amplitude (sqrt of the probability) of observing that specific state.
Physically speaking, no. It only happens on subatomic scale, so macroscopic objects don't exhibit it.
Mechanically meaning abstractly, thinking of some system S, with possible states s1, s2, and s3, and representing a feasible state as [a1, a2, a3] where a_i is the probability amplitude for s_i.
So, a coin would be the simplest quantum system. You have up, or down. So, you can represent a valid superposition of it as a vector of two complex numbers, where each complex number represents the probability amplitude of observing up, and down respectively.
Then, once you measure the state, it'll collapse randomly to one of the two. If you do this measurement many times, it'll form a distribution which approximates your superposition (as I said, the superposed state, or any quantum state for that matter is a probability dist, so you can approximate it by sampling it many times, the more you do, the more accurate the approximation).
That's how we do quantum computation. You start with qubits (quantum coins) all set in up (default state). Then, you apply operations on the qubits which are essentially matrices acting on vectors. The result is a new overall vector. This is the result of your computation. You now have to extract it. You do so by measuring it many times to get an approximation of it.
That's the general pipeline.
when starting to write this just because of the name, I wasn't expecting to end up with something actually adequate

Python doesn't yet have a way to analyse how f-string was assembled, right?
although
maybe through bytecode inspection
in C# there's a way to do "safe" SQL format strings
which captures the format string before it becomes just string
Huh, I don't think I realized that
C# has a separate type for those
it the gas believes in itself enough it can leak through pipes directly
oh, look, removing a mutex gave a >3x speedup, who could've guessed
@gentle flint as an example of that in Linux/Unix, Zig people really religiously believe on never sudo installing anything

uh
it's a bit weird in Jupyter
kind of global
it is shared across cells, that's the easy answer
@soft axle you can wrap cell code in functions and call them to avoid cluttering the scope
@gentle flint there is a very specific reason why I'm doubting those variables are truly global
ig IPython is just doing weird things to how scopes work
ya I was trying to acoid that

if possible
it is global but allows stuff that normally can't work when ran at module level
Ooh, this is such a great question. Maybe there should be a feature of inspect ?
