Like mine? If so, what about it?
LOL
btw guys how can we get the VIDEO role?
By being very trustworthy
wdym by trusthworthy?
I've fallen out of love with wotc.
So to start out, we give it on a temporary as needed basis. You just ask a mod+ if they're in the voice chat. If they're up to it, they can grant it. As we get more comfortable with folks (like they've shown to be responsible with it), we'll typically grant the person a 3 week probationary period where they have the video perms during that time. If they've shown to be responsible with that, we'll typically give them perma
Yeah I've done that with gaming in general

Spoken like a true ai
Beep beep boop boop.
Ok Ik it, Opal is a ai
@long kayak What library is messing with you?
@rugged root dude polars is like sooo much faster
i converted a legacy pipeline to polars
and my total time went down by 60 %
Depends on the animal, depends on the relationship, depends on the technique.
Some people just suck at physically interacting with animals.
"Oh, this dog doesn't like being pet. All dogs hate being pet."
Not how it always works.
about two minutes in i go from awed (and slightly smug i didn't have to chase the storm at all) to terrified when i realize that there's 60 mph winds on that storm
im Indian , ill do it for $2
mfw when i have variables curr and curr_node in the same fucking function representing different things:
fuck
🫠
this is fine
some dev about 10 years ago set the variables
CUR_WK , CUR_WK0 , CURWK , and they all have wildly different values and datatypes
on the project i am maintaing rn
"future me will hate it but present me is very happy"
Dude , first of all the code base was written in SAS
@rugged root False right ?
i feel like there is a bug with the library then
isbn 978-1728654881 for those who want to read it
That's.... huh
It just works
should i just fill_nan() that column?
and be done with it ?
basically , column y serves no other purpose , other than the creation of column z
im actually dropping it in my main pipeline anywya
so what youre saying is i should add in a 3rd condition ?
3rd condition that I would put at the beginning of the condition chain
i see
Especially if it's weirdly accepting the first condition
i mean i already knew work arounds for this , but its just unexplainable why the first condition was going through lol
@rugged root I was using notepad and folders for customer orders, just adding html for better navigation
the 3 costumers a year won't mind lol
all offline
You are a monster
A dedicated monster
@long kayak https://github.com/pola-rs/polars/issues I can't seem to find something specific on it
But I think it would be worth making an issue on it
Is it just me or are a lot of people talking over other people?
they are
I'm gonna check out this other server's VC for a while, see y'all if you're still here when I'm back

Deprecation or derprecation? You decide!

Eh. 🙂
My brain's derpecated for sure.

(...) I make 5x more salary than the other paid person in this voice chat (...)
@amber raptor
So, how much are you making? I'm curious to see if your claim holds 😅
175k
~9 times what I make
(tbf where I am ~$20k annually is quite good for remote part time)
Yeah, the 5x is far off. At least in my case. I'm nowhere near your 2+ decades of work experience, and yet I'm about half your salary.
I know the person I'm messing with
You could easily make 110K annually with a remote full-time in Canda or US. You're pretty much a jack of all trades, I think you could wear many hats.
I didn't say all Americans, I said a person
You said
(...) the other paid person (...)
emphasis mine.
no one's going to mess with money transfers into Russia
Sure, I still know who I'm messing with
I see. Have you given any thought to moving to Canada or US? In-person you could make even more.
and type of people who will mess, like cryptobros, I'd rather not work for unless they really pay a lot
I understand.
likely illegal
Why illegal?
US doesn't admit immigrants in large numbers. I know the news is riddled with "IMMIGRATION IS PROBLEM IN AMERICA" but truth is much more fuzzy
I know, visa process is very difficult and expensive for internationals.
emigration laws
I see. Was kind of hoping you wouldn't suffer from it like I do.
as in leaving
I know.
Wait, you're not allowed to leave Russia?
This is why we won
dinner brb
Kids who got stuff done were usually Upper Second.
First is usually the guys who waste too much time on getting perfect marks. If I could go back, I would dedicate more time to learning and working than wasting time with class and bs assignments.
Only do to get good grades.
I didn't renew the exit permit before the war started
tbf not like having it really matters
I see. Sorry to hear that. Visa stuff are really frustrating.
Hehe, true.
passport for international travel can be revoked at any point for any reason
My situation was like "You wanna come to MIT? Sure, show us 50K CAD in your bank account.". It's no different from being rejected by MIT when it's impossible to go anyways.
Why does MIT care about CAD?
I was giving as an example.
Even if you get offer to the best school on earth, if your fares are more than twice others and you can't possibly afford it, then it's same as being rejected.
People sell their houses and cars to pay for a single semester Rabbit. That's before they even enter the country.
It's just to show proof of funds. No one, even those who live very comfortable lives in my country make nearly enough to have that much sitting in a bank account.
It's cost of a big house.
Sure, the United States requires to show you have proof to support yourself
Visa overstays is massive issue for us
Rabbit, do you get the entire money for your annual cost at the beginning of the year?
No
There you go.
I'm just giving the reason
People get salaries monthly. No one makes their annual cost at once.
How would you be working? United States Student visa doesn't give you working rights I believe
I know, but it's a bit unreasonable to ask for the cost of the year at the beginning of the year.
I would be allowed 20 hrs work hours outside campus, and as much as I want inside campus.
I got offer for Canada though, but very similar situation.
For both F-1 and M-1 students any off-campus training employment must be related to their area of study and must be authorized prior to starting any work by the Designated School Official (the person authorized to maintain the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)) and USCIS.```
If it was just to show you could support yourself, they would have accepted salary receipts for proof of funds.
Sounds like it's a pain in the ass
It is a pain in the ass. I had to get a deferral since even if I sold my house I wouldn't have enough to start the visa process.
@rugged root lucky if it's a truck not just a regular car
Yea, our (United States) immigration system is massive mess. I'm not sure of a fix because citizens are extremely hesitant to agree to a fix.
US is impossible for me (and my race as a whole). Canada and UK are the possible ones, but you need to be RICH to even be able to begin the visa process. The cost for your first year + living expenses is basically the cost of your house + car + loan + salary.
for me the only realistic plan is to
step 1: get foreign banking card, so companies can actually pay
step 2: get a remote job
Your race?
I'll dm you if you want, don't want to send here.
That's fine, I'm confused why race comes into play
It's more national origin and fact your country annual salary is so low.
They don't give visa for my nationality. Period.
You are North Korean?
Like we have few countries on our "No visas ever"
We're one of those last time I checked.
North Korea/Russia (new change)/Iran
Yep.
but I know few Iranians
so it's obviously not impossible, and yes, they moved to US AFTER Revolution
They usually went years ago.
"It's fine, I only drank the less powerful deadly poison."
Hehe
True, dead is dead.
Most of people I know who went to US had passports from years ago, and were rich as fuck (from usually shady stuff, don't ask).
Less extreme cases were mostly in Canada and UK.
I mean, since you have access to internet and not talking about invading 🇺🇦 , the list of countries is getting small 😉
You got the nationality in your list, just exclude the two I'm not.
I can honestly only go to Canada, and then after a few years when I get the passport move to US as a Canadian.
How long will it take for you to get Canadian Citizenship?
From the moment you enter the country, usually 3-5 years iirc.
and Canada is talking about severely restricting immigration, it will be interesting to see, I know Canadian Citizens flirting with Canadian far right over the issue
It'll probably get worse yeah, my luck maybe.
Alternatively, "How much maple syrup can you chug in one sitting?"
I'll fail there for sure.
i had maple syrup and waffles for the first time last week
or "how many times can you say sorry in 1 minute"
it was , pretty good
I honestly don't think my situation was any different from getting a reject letter. Frankly, it just gave me a tiny, microscopic confidence boost, which was immediately overshadowed by my self-disappointment for not having a high paying work or somehow getting a scholarship (they actually don't give scholarships, period, but hey, maybe there's a way they don't tell ppl and you have to be super pesky to know).
explosive kick
I know it sucks, the universities just have so many people applying that they figure, "ACE07 can't attend, whatever, we have 200 people to take their place, NEXT!"
they start listening after your first million or two
I learned that a few years ago. No hard feelings I guess, just disappointed in myself for not being better. I know I'm very replacable hehe.
hedgy
it was so tiny!!

method_mapper = {
"X": [self.X, [0, 1, 2]],
"Y": [self.Y, [0, 1, 2]],
"RX": [self.RX, [0.5, 1]]
}
gate = "RX"
method_to_call, params = method_mapper[gate]
method_to_call(params)
method_to_call, params = method_mapper[gate] is a tuple unpacking. You could pack it as a tuple instead of a list then in the dict values.
How would you do it?
Can you show me the code?
# snip
"X": (self.X, [0, 1, 2]),
# snip
What's the actual difference besides changing list to tuple?
Is there any benefit to using tuple?
Besides all the differences implied when using a tuple instead of a list? None. For a list that never changes length, or contents, yes a tuple is preferrable.
Gotcha, makes sense, thank you!

I see this every time
How did you get into data science?
tbh, by giving interviews of data science
a lot of interviews
data science is just statistics
mapping_dict = {
"X": lambda instance: instance.X,
"Y": lambda instance: instance.Y
}
Is what correct sorry? 👀
Yeah I guess it's correct, but I'm not sure why you'd do this
!paste
To not make it every time this method is called.
You would have to use that like mapping_dict['X'](some_object)
¯_(ツ)_/¯
You could use getattr, although then you lose the ability to statically type it.
man u gotta be careful now whom u trynna date 💀
class love
def add(self, a, b):
return a + b
def substract(self, a, b):
return a-b

some_dict = {
'add' : l.add(),
'sub' : l.subtract()
}
l.sub(1,2)
>> -1
Typically how I see it
or w/
😂 just think about it during the ☕
lol, if she offers, i ll ask her to drink it
i ll take my order from counter
There's also operator.attrgetter: ```py
from operator import attrgetter
x_getter = attrgetter('x')
...
print(x_getter(some_object))
Usually this is done by cacheing the prev result and if it exists, you skip the conversion, no?
Back in a bit

hello, i'm sorry 😓
@somber heath I'm sorry, I didn't mean to join your voice chat without asking for permission. Can I ask what is your topic of discussion? If it's okay to ask. Btw, I'm new here.
I mean, like, it's fine, it's a public VC? There not much going on, I'm mostly just trying to figure out a problem with a program I'm making
ah, okayyy. thanks.
i joined today.....
lol
i have no idea how python works well lol
i can make simple functions but cant understand someother things
i think its my 3rd hour i think
ooh
you can make your custom AI now?
thats very cool
are the people who actually like use python for a living able to like fully make a bot from scratch?
that seems as a very cool job
like you get weekends off right?
or not
mm
are your teamates nice?
ooh so your experienced that job
may i ask how old you are?
oh i thought you were like 18 until you told me you worked for the company for a long time
how is it like being an adult
paying bills and filing taxes seems scary lol
Howdy
hi
thats nice...
Japan takes so much tax
mm
have you ever been to any other country?
wow alot of countries lol
do you travel for work related reasons or just for a trip
wow
thats nice!
back to uh python, does python run on a site or directly in someones computer? i dont really understand well how python runs
so you just directly run it on your computer
I made a access wall kind of thing where you need a specific username and password, but thats basically useless...
like i made a script where you have to enter a "Username" and "Password" to access a system
yes
python
oh
it seems very tedious lol
does that mean it is possible to run a python script on anothers computer by siimply making the person click a button?
simply*
since we use other authentication programs
and they run on our PC
oh
Yeah it's not like a .exe where it runs on its own
ohhhh thats how PC viruses work
mm
i was wondering how viruses run on peoples computers without the victim installing python
oh
ty
its illegal to spread a virus, so why make it in the first place lol
yes thank you
i wanted to learn how to make AI
im learning python through youtube tutorials
Practical data skills you can apply immediately: that's what you'll learn in these no-cost courses. They're the fastest (and most fun) way to become a data scientist or improve your current skills.
so while watching the youtube videos, i tried making a system, which is the username and password access wall thing
thank you
i wanted to make a automatic stock trading system, do you think its possble
possible*
oh
ok!
i also do need some knowledge in economics right?
in terms of making that bot
yup!
oh ok
i have a problem with trading to much with my emotions so thats why i wanted to automate it lol
and overtrading
have you ever tried making a automated system before?
oh
yes i will
mhm! thank you,
sorry could you repeat what you just said?
im not sure lol
i am considering staying for no reason
do you script python?
like mainly
mm
many say its usefull
useful*
whats that lol
table synthesis or something
yes
is it a common term in python?
or C++
oh
you must know many programming languages
my friend also is trying to learn C++
he also says its kind of hard
im 15 right now, do you think i can try to make coding python a full time job?
i thought there were many companies trying to find python programmers... is that not the case?
YOU NEED A QUALIFICATION>>???
oh.. you cant just show what you made
oop
ok
i mean it is what it is
hi
its 3:30 am?
oh
its 4:25 for me
pm
probably lol
ty
goodbye

hi
halo
HEY @whole bear
HEY BESTIE
how does pip order latest versions in the case of 4-part version numbers? e.g. 1.2.3 vs 1.2.3.4
That's a really good question. I would think it treats the one without the 4th number as 1.2.3.0 or something
But I don't know for sure
I believe it chooses the latest version. 1.2.3.x (where x is the latest number, or the compatible version), and 1.2.3.4 is just 1.2.3.4.
ugh i scratched my knees climbing rocks on a beach for a pic that i havent posted on insta yet
the most ive done for a pic
like i posed for a pic
but to get to that rock i had to parkour to there
i had a pic that looked like this but on a beach
I have a case where 1.2.3 is being sorted as "latest" instead of 1.2.3.4, does that sound right?
Not sure, actually
execpt i was standing on some rock on a beach with my sunglasses and hat
#packaging-and-distribution might know? I'm not sure if that'd be the right one

It's not on the repo, that's why we couldn't find it.

You have to pip install it, and then use ctrl + right click to see reference file.

the problem is that if you aren't part of the solution, there's good money to be made prolonging the problem. and the people who stand to gain the most from the problem are the people in charge right now.
Not far off the human brain then, which is about 10^14 synapses I think.
e.g. if the arctic melts completely, china gains really good shipping routes to europe.

what's this story about microsoft outage?
My understanding is that Cloudstrike, a company Microsoft uses in its stuff, pushed a bad update which borked anything Windows. Maybe.
I use Linux and Mac.
Cloudstrike being some communication endpoint security and antimalware stuff, I think.
I could be wildly wrong about all of this, just fyi.
I wonder if Rem is around.
Rem would probably know all about it.

need a array of C64 , running at 1Ghz ...
well easy to program , BASIC , ASM , just slow
C64 , uses a 6510 a variant
6502 good enough
if you made a C64 like a microcontroller to run a greenhouse , it would be very usable
I wonder if anything still uses a 6502 varient nowadays?
most likely yes , there were many made , Furby's used a 6502 , with burn once ROM
cheap , easy to code , emulators here / there
yes there is one that can access 16 Meg
can you use the emulator and model a user port ? @steep vortex
is this possible , C64 emulator ( PC ) ---> microcontroller ( emulate user port ) ---> blinky lights
C64 kernal is very complicated
Maybe? You might have to do custom drivers for the host OS tho
C64 emulate ---- port x ( serial ? ) --> python--> MCU --> user port
Probably, though I think you have to do, like, async stuff in python
C64 is designed to be easy to code ( can squish it into a ESP32 ? )
ESPN32
the serial may be the floppy port , serial data
pyserial could work with this
yes can be networked , not SCSII though

just got W11 , so .... dont know all the issues
Win11 is fine. Most of the annoyances I have are more IT stuff. They're moving further and further away from the Control Panel, which sucks because the Settings stuff doesn't cover everything you might need
And they're depricating the troubleshooters like the printer and network ones
Which again, annoying
had to find , Intel GPU control app to set screen stuff better - that was half a day
@rugged root
Go to the manufacturer website and get the latest drivers and software
what makes you think that?
M$ is actually good for drivers , I tend to go with defaults , just using a 24' monitor 1920 x
@halcyon temple Yo
mmmm any net goofy ness i wonder if its something like that , may only find out what really happened a month from now - as long as my machine doesnt blow up - im good @gentle flint
You're missing VC context
are you discussing the crowdstrike bug?
I use the real drivers for a NVIDEA cards , I assume optomzation
That's one of the topics, ye
if so that's unrelated to Microsoft
if you give a program full permission to change anything on your os and it proceeds to break the os that's not an issue with the os developer
is it worth looking at X , to see the musk messages on this that
No no, I think CloudStrike are the folks that work on Windows Defender AV
I need to verify that, though
my W10 has run well for long time
The key is long time, prop
as far as I understood cloudstrike developed Falcon
which can run alongside Windows Defender (which is developed by Microsoft)
external data drives are amust , cuzz cuzz , W can crap out , but its been good
I can't say Musk has ever provided particularly intelligent comments on anything whatsoever.
SSD drives can crap out also ,
Gotcha, I'll keep researching. This was just me trying to gather info based on a couple articles
