Let's say you have a great idea, just great, but people say show us before we invest, prove it will work. It happens all the time in my field. Then, you see to implement sth this massive you'll need a full-time team, and you go to VCs to get capital, and then you get rejected.

It happens all the time.

There's a time element, a limited amount of time before your idea is in someway redundant by either better software, or derivative software published before you.

Unless you can do everything on your own with 0 capital, losing a potential VC is a big thing.

idk i feel this is over simplified, if you have a great idea and have users your chances of getting picked up by a vc is greater than someone who just comes with what they think is a good idea with no metric to show that the idea is good, and if things fall out with a vc if your idea is good enough and you truly believe in it ive seen cases where people become successful without needing vc backing

In my domain, even a rigorous proof that your idea will work is not enough.

It's not oversimplified, unless you can produce a proof of concept that proves your idea will work, and presenting findings in an airtight manner, you're very likely to get rejected.
