It takes a sec

pallid moon

yeah quite a long sec

especially considering the fact that it prints access denied after it

Even after moving to your own user directory?

@pallid moon are you using powershell or cmd?

They're using CMD

Win + X
Should list Powershell as Admin there

pallid moon
rugged root
#

It'll just be easier if I get in here

#

Then you know the answer I'm going to give you, Char

#

Okay, so you have a powershell as admin open?

#

What's the current path it shows?

#

Okay

#

Now try the powercfg /BATTERYREPORT

whole bear
#

@stark crow πŸ‘‹

rugged root
#

Because it's getting further in the process

#

It's dying instantly because it's not being run as admin

stark crow
#

@whole bear yup i got

stark river
#

iirc it shouldn't have to run as admin... but i could be wrong

#

that's what's puzzling me

rugged root
#

I'm thinking something is borked

#

Does it still give the error?

#

While I'm thinking about it, open up another Powershell as admin

stark river
#

@pallid moon do you have the battery attached?

rugged root
#

Gonna have you run a system file check

pallid moon
rugged root
#
sfc /scannow; dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth; sfc /scannow
#

@stark river It'll still give a report even if it's not

#

I just did it on my desktop

stark river
#

i am just super confused.. it's just a simple command .. should work no fuss

rugged root
#

Yeah something is fucked

#

It's currently doing this, right?

#

Or has it gone to the dism section

pallid moon
rugged root
#

Ah okay, that's the sfc

#

Also to explain what I'm having you do, sfc is the system file checker, and /scannow obviously tells it to do it now. dism is the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool. It's what sfc refers to when it repairs the system files. /online tells it to check the currently running system image, /cleanup-image tells it to remove any unnecessary parts from it, /restorehealth makes sure that the image itself is valid. Then we're just doing sfc again to repair using the fixed up image

#

Only reason we do sfc first is to make sure that DISM itself isn't borked as well

#

Wheeeeeeeee

pallid moon
rugged root
#

Yeah. Second part should say no issues, third should also say no issues.

#

I'd reboot after these finish (or wait for the battery report thing if it's still going)

#

You don't have to reboot

#

I'd just recommend it

#

Good to know that my job as IT is useful to folks here

#

Not the first time I've helped users troubleshoot stuff

#

Won't be the last either

whole bear
rugged root
#

Back later. Ping me if it's still fucked

whole bear
#

@unreal hazel Can you stream me?

rugged root
#

Char

#

You trying to go around me to stream your game isn't going to do you any favors

pallid moon
#

chess isnt harmful :3

rugged root
#

It's more the he already asked and was already given an answer

#

And was told no by the voice lead

#

I don't like pulling rank

#

But it's irritating me

pallid moon
#

i see

whole bear
#

I'm sorry Hemlock

#

I'll stop

pallid moon

@rugged root here's the full output, it's been on that 6% for like half an hour now

rugged root

Weird

#

CTRL + C and reboot

#

Something's wonky

pallid moon

also it changed to 7% when I ctrl + Ced

The Zen of Python, by Tim Peters

Beautiful is better than ugly.
Explicit is better than implicit.
Simple is better than complex.
Complex is better than complicated.
Flat is better than nested.
Sparse is better than dense.
Readability counts.
Special cases aren't special enough to break the rules.
Although practicality beats purity.
Errors should never pass silently.
Unless explicitly silenced.
In the face of ambiguity, refuse the temptation to guess.
There should be one-- and preferably only one --obvious way to do it.
Although that way may not be obvious at first unless you're Dutch.
Now is better than never.
Although never is often better than right now.
If the implementation is hard to explain, it's a bad idea.
If the implementation is easy to explain, it may be a good idea.
Namespaces are one honking great idea -- let's do more of those!
