had to google the equivalent, but yes I would be in college
so better to use mapfilter than list comprehension?
Also, learning how to wrangle the yield keyword can help if you want to write a generator using def.
Well asymptotically yes (ie for big things). For small things the overhead of making and consuming a generator can make it slower than a list comp
In Python, comprehensions are considered as being more Pythonic than using map/filter/reduce, etc.
The argument of comprehensions vs map et al rages on.
You still have stream perms (if that's what you asked about)
map was bought in because enough people bugged Guido into it because Perl, as I understand
Or something along those lines.
I could be completely wrong
i'm decent enough with python 🤷 .. although i don't understand why you needed to preface that with "i know you're indian..."

Hello,Does anyone here know based on -AI-website that translates pdf files??
Hello 👀👀👀👀
Oh uhhhh
That's a good question
Maybe pump it through some OCR program so that you can extract the text first and just translate after?
Not sure if there's a single one and done thing
Not saying there isn't, just that I don't know of any

A dictionary is roughly comparable to a real world dictionary, with keys being the words and the values being the word definitions.

I've actually been studying it for a long time, but I feel like a fool for not understanding it.
Where u study?
udemy
what about you?
@whole bear ya know it much like other languages just differnt orders of operation
No, it's easy, just be patient, don't give up
Mimo
I used to learn all languages in a row a little bit at a time, then I stopped on Python, I can't say why, the only thing I heard many times is that it is very simple. But I realize that this is a deception and there are very complicated aspects in any programming language.

Hi 🙂
mostly

C-like syntax
{} blocks, ; at the end of lines, () for conditions/loops, ? : ternary
(trying to remember what else they have in common which would separate it from other syntax families)
@upper epoch 👋
What language would u choose to start?
Hey felas
I guess also (type argument_name) order but that'd exclude JavaScript from this group
something something = New something
yeah, type variable thing generally
What do u guys think which language will be most wanted in the market after 3 or 4 years
English
I am guessing both has potentially ambiguous parsing for >>
No one will talk 🙄
JavaScript, C#, Java, Kotlin, Go
Those are still going to be strong for a long while
Am not kidding
What about Python?
Is JavaScript similar to Java?
In name only
syntax also
More or less
According to the Animal Aging and Longevity Database, the list of animals with negligible aging (along with estimated longevity in the wild) includes:[12]
Blanding's turtle (Emydoidea blandingii) – 77 years
Olm (Proteus anguinus) – 102 years
Eastern box turtle (Terrapene carolina) – 138 years
Red sea urchin (Strongylocentrotus franciscanus) – 200 years
Rougheye rockfish (Sebastes aleutianus) – 205 years
Ocean quahog clam (Arctica islandica) – 507 years
Greenland shark (Somniosus microcephalus) - 250 to 500 years
doesn't it have them?
class syntax hella diff tho
original JS doesn't have any
with ~43 interfaces to classify them
If you were a newbie What will u peak Python or JavaScript or java?
Python
syntactically
if not for Java hype, there'd be more parentheses
Or JS
It’s similar to python but and u can use for web scripting
But python is more useful for client scripting imo
I got the number right, surprisingly
https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/api/java/util/function/package-summary.html
U can use node and use it the same as python tho
depends, if you want to do anything else besides web develoment, i would say python. If you do webdevelopment, i would say javascript.
Why
what is the purpose of having a dedicated interface for this
def accept[T](t: T, value: float) -> None:

Guys, what are the odds that chat-gpt will take over developers job in the coming 10 years
it's already taking over and actively degrading average code quality
So should i still learn programming?
AI at its current stage is quite bad at coding
it needs guidance from more experienced programmers (like, even a month of experience worth will already outperform GPT at some things),
of which you might become one
Am i at least some percent safe if i go with backend?
the thing, that GPT is good at, is replication rather than development:
doing something that has already been solved
both front-end and back-end have potential for novelty which is unknown to AI
Actually yeah, but we don't know what will happen in the coming few years
as for front-end, there are reasons why "centring a div" is such a big meme and an unsolved problem
So what should i learn? Cloud computing?, data science? Or what?
Ohh that thing 😁
Can't repro the alt-tab issue
apart from "learn what you like", consider geographical nuances of jobs;
there are areas where cloud computing isn't that much of a thing (I doubt, for example, North Korea has much of it, but there are less extreme cases)
AI/"tech support" answer would be display: flex on outer and margin: auto on inner;
but then the reality of how broken CSS is happens
I am still using chocolatey
That's also dope for sure
Okay, tnx 👍

You can use something like Oracle Cloud Infrastrucutre. Last time I checked they has a free VPS tier
The tags will take a best guess on some of them
Interesting
Using free hosting options like repl.it or Heroku for continuous 24/7 bot hosting is strongly discouraged.

Huh, I'll be damned. That does make sense, though. A lot of the folks using it weren't going to pay for it in the end

@stark river you just mentioned that you studied in the UK, right?
It wasn't you? Sorry, my bad
it was but what of it?
Oh. I will be flying there in about 10 days to pursue my masters and wanted to know if you had any tips for international students
anything in particular you want?
Internship opportunities.
grab some merino wool baselayers
you need to apply to companies for that and ask the school's career services office
Okay, but is it really as competitive as people say? A lot of people suggested I rather do a part-time
depends on where you want. if you want to work in tech, they look for interns. some industries, maybe they look for part time workers e.g. amazon delivery... so pick where you want to go
do you have anemia? @left leaf
merino wool is goat for snowboarding
Sometimes anemia causes coldness and drop in blood pressure, which brings cold in the body
Oh, alright. Thanks!
and hiking
weighted blanket is good too. I use a heated mattress pad. Keeps my cats happy.
Just temporarily relocate to Phuket or something
i love this thing 😄
I never used one until I took a trip to Japan in the winter, was pretty awesome, still prefer central heating lmao
Okay. I was looking for a programming / ML research opportunities. Probably will start with personal projects to strengthen my portfolio.
for that you need an internship
Working on building a recipe app that is also a pantry inventory manager and a shopping list manager. all-in-one.
yeap.i our country is so usefull you can find it in every house
Right. Imma apply for internships soon. Thanks!

Hello, world.
!d print
print(*objects, sep=' ', end='\n', file=None, flush=False)```
Print *objects* to the text stream *file*, separated by *sep* and followed by *end*. *sep*, *end*, *file*, and *flush*, if present, must be given as keyword arguments.
All non-keyword arguments are converted to strings like [`str()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/stdtypes.html#str) does and written to the stream, separated by *sep* and followed by *end*. Both *sep* and *end* must be strings; they can also be `None`, which means to use the default values. If no *objects* are given, [`print()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/functions.html#print) will just write *end*.
The *file* argument must be an object with a `write(string)` method; if it is not present or `None`, [`sys.stdout`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/sys.html#sys.stdout) will be used. Since printed arguments are converted to text strings, [`print()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/functions.html#print) cannot be used with binary mode file objects. For these, use `file.write(...)` instead.

@whole bear if you plan on working on things relating to automation yes learn Python first for learning programming concepts but then you could stretch out to other languages like AutoHotKey which is designed with automations and keyboard shortcuts in mind
python though is great because its general purpose and easy to learn
for loops are loops with a predefined amount of iterations that itterates over the given object and has a var which is asigned to the index in the itteration

Hello! I'm trying an exericse. It goes as follows:
Please write a program which keeps asking the user for words. If the user types in end, the program should print out the story the words formed, and finish. Change the program so that the loop ends also if the user types in the same word twice.
I can't make the second part works. I can't find a way to comprobe if the new input word is already on the variable. Maybe someone can help me
word=input('word')
while True:
if 'end' in word:
break
elif word != 'end':
word1 = input('word')
if word1 == 'end':
break
elif word1 != 'end':
word = word + ' ' + word1
elif word1 in word:
break
print(word)
I thought elif word1 in word: would work but i dont know why it doesnt
Wrong place
now
pyenv global 3.11
curl -sSL https://install.python-poetry.org | python3 -

The voice verification is scary for introverts like me. Gotta send 50 messages 😦
Alas, it's better for listeners than the alternative. People screaming and shooting racial slurs every ten minutes wasn't pleasant.
The voice gate provides enough discouragement for those people.
It's not that it's big.
I’d like to hear more haha
