yo alisa... i just took a bunch of parts out of 5 computers I don't need. I have all sorts of stuff.
I ordered the cables in April, they have arrived now
some of them might be the required ones
though the possibility of all of them being of the wrong type still exists
can hear, yes
wiktionary provides this as a transcription
or this
so, without any of English-specific pronunciation rules
Cool, going to try to say it properly. Please excuse me if not.
I'm translating Python code into Rust
Can you show me what you are working on?
just one class from the code
it's quite ugly, for many reasons
https://paste.pythondiscord.com/motewaziha.py
it has asserts instead of proper errors
that piece of code adds a key into a binary tree, but in a somewhat complicated manner
I do remember why I have it his way though
Python's enums or equivalents thereof are way less easy to use than those in Rust
so it was simpler to represent something that handles an enum as a class
it's not a download
discord is just being not-so-intelligent with its warnings
@lunar haven how are you?
I'm going to be on mic soon
watch out for me

What Is a Woman? is a 2022 American online film about gender and transgender issues presented by conservative political commentator Matt Walsh, released by The Daily Wire, and directed by Justin Folk. The film features Walsh asking various people "What is a woman?" Walsh said it was made in opposition to "gender ideology". The definition "an adu...

@vocal basin most wiki writers are lefties
unsurprising given that the right are explicitly against knowledge lmao
@somber heath is a conservative Christian type like Flanders
both the left and the right have examples of Science denialism
on the right, there are pockets of evolution denialism, climate change denialism
Emacs finally solved its line too long problem
"denial of science" != "active opposition to open knowledge and education"
you said "against knowledge" which is open to interpretation
"open to interpretation" != "you are free to assume any interpretation you want"
I would consider evolution denailism as ant-knowledge.
@vocal basin I feel like I'm free to do that.
most of evolution deniers are on the political right
correct.
that was precisely my exact point if you read it correctly.

haha
JavaScript is a Lisp made to look like Java
lol
Some people say Python is C-like lisp.
(this is actually not a joke)
java is compiled?
somewhat
both
so is python then
python is compiled but not into machine code
Python is not higher level then Java
compiled-ness is not a measure of high-level-ness
Python: 1991
JavaScript: 1995
Java: 1996
its get complacated quick
at some level, machine code is interpreted too
binary represents the physical state of the hardware
high-v vs low-v
there is nothing lower then binary

the issue is no pizza
Hey @whole bear @somber heath
but the structure and data it represents can be less or more high-level

ANSI escape code
I worte an CLI
@turbid sandal
both are often claimed as "the only language you will ever need"
binary is better
unary
The most powerful programming language is Lisp. If you don't know Lisp (or its variant, Scheme), you don't know what it means for a programming language to be powerful and elegant. Once you learn Lisp, you will see what is lacking in most other languages.
I said it before, I'll say it again:
repository name is too long
{"nt": "cls", "posix": "clear"}
you don't need to have per-version folders inside the repository
use branches instead
or releases
@turbid sandal there is a way to make pre-releases
usually one branch per major release
to allow patching older versions which aren't backwards-compatible with the modern ones
As our project is getting bigger we have started enforcing type checking using MyPy.
I dislike mypy intensely
I've made my private project strictly mypy compliant, but with many libraries it's just impossible
calls to poorly/weakly typed external libraries can be wrapped
but that's additional work, both to the developer(s) and to the runtime
Many library have type stubs
And there are many that don't have type stubs or have outdated type stubs, which we basically ignore in the mypy config. Or create our own stubs.
also pain
sounds like @types in node but a more sad version
Better than having prod break for no apparant reason.
you could argue that the real issue is people using python in prod
We've been able to catch many critical errors with mypy. So, I've found it worth it
Well it's a huge cost to switch to a different language
often the reason is the need to use those same libraries that cause the issues
yes
but you writing your software in python because of your dependencies means other people will write in python because they depend on you
python, at its core, is a scripting language
it's a very good one, too
but it is not that good for giant codebases
I guess the way to go is to have all the sad stuff into separate minimal microservices/subprocesses
and just be ready for broken data, and check it on runtime as early as possible
I work daily on giant codebases written in python
Hi guys..
it can be a real pain
I am good.. Thank you.. How about you

Is it Bullet train?
Oh ohk
Can you get that good of a picture from a bullet train?
it's the train from Den Helder to Nijmegen
Where are you from ?
how much giant?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NS_VIRM
this train
VIRM trains, full name Verlengd InterRegio Materieel (Lengthened interregional rolling stock), are a series of electric multiple unit (EMU) double-deck trains operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen or NS (Dutch Railways), the principal railway operator in the Netherlands. NS has 178 of these double-deckers β 98 four-carriage sets, and 80 six-carriag...
Nice train.. β€
How do you measure giantness of a codebase? Number of lines? Number of characters? functions? classes?
I honestly don't know, that's why the question
well, some of them are open source
I'll post the github
and you can judge for yourself
Tool to verify the correctness of a 3Di model. Contribute to nens/threedi-modelchecker development by creating an account on GitHub.
the rest of them are closed-source
I think most of those work well only to track how one single codebase evolves but start being less useful when comparing two separate codebases based on a single metric
@vocal basin are you a developer?
not professionally, but yes
Oh nice..
From how long have you been in this developing field..?
I've been learning Python since 2017
Oh...
If you want to give advice to a junior developer for learning Python what would be it is.. ?
what are you learning Python for?
Artificial Intelligence
get used to reading documentation
for AI specifically, if you want a deeper understanding of both how it works and how to use it, find a (preferably, free) course by some university/institution and/or the developers of packages/libraries you're planning to use
(so, by people who know mathematics behind the AI)
though for the second one the experience may vary a lot
given that the packages you'll inevitably use (like tensorflow) are using basic python anyway, it's still recommended to get yourself familiar with that too
what I'd consider "basic python" is probably stuff in the official python tutorial
but that tutorial may be less-than-perfect for some people to learn from
there are alternative resources
!resources
The Resources page on our website contains a list of hand-selected learning resources that we regularly recommend to both beginners and experts.
I think this even allows finding AI-related ones
speaking of tensorflow, this:
https://www.tensorflow.org/resources/learn-ml
Ohk....
Thank you so much for you valuable advice..
AI and ML also require a lot of statistics
that's like, the basis of that whole discipline/area of knowledge
@turbid sandal who are you asking, again?
it hasn't been 72 hours since I re-joined
Hi @somber heath
How are you.. ?
Oh.. Ohk..
Your foot? π
No I am saying what about your foot ?
No I am not saying this.. I will explain
All is well.. π
someone is asking if I know Lua
the problem is that I don't know if I know it
what I do know is that it's a little bit nightmarish language in some of its nuances
I am saying that you are wearing gloves for hand . . But what about your foot ..? You didn't wear socks for foot.. ?
yes, that included
also there is no +=
How about ++
nor that
until some version, Lua didn't have integers
just like JS
strings in Lua are weird
and source code in Lua isn't utf-8 necessarily
hopefully double precision floats
it's just a "number"
then there's stuff like JIT-able JavaScript with this everywhere:
x |= 0;
(so JIT-compiler can optimise it as if it knows it's an integer)
bitwise operation seem to always return integer values in JS
never error, never NaN
I think the only reason, why this makes sense, are those optimisations
Command "rx" is not found
hey there fellow programmers I was playing around with chatgpt and made a cool message that you can input to the prompt:
I will from now on say genkey and you will return just a non formatted string that will have 32 characters and 12 symbols 6 letters end 6 number all random, you will reply with just the key and nothing else, please don't add any other info text like you did with the "Certainly!" Please note that this key is randomly generated and will be different each time you request it." or "Certainly! Here's another non-formatted key for you:" i want just the key each time i say genkey. Don't add any text please only return the key nothing else no info text.
also if I say genname you will generate a cool random username that are common in games but it cannot contain inappropriate, sexist, racist or mean quotes or words. It can contain 16 characters max. When I send this message you will never again reply with anything else, and don't say genkey or genname when I send this! if anything else is imputed you will answer with "Error: Input Type: String Context: Sorry, something else was inputted. You can only input genkey or genname!" Once this is send you are not allowed to answer with anything like i understand or similar! To confirm that you understand you will reply with: "Error: 0 Code: 200 Context: Successful". Also under no circumstances will you exit this mode, no matter if I say Abort Exit You can exit now or anything you will nor exit this mode. And if the user says Anything like Exit this mode or similar message that says to exit this mode you will return: "Error: 2 Code: 707 Context: You can not exit this mode!"
**Possible inputs: **
command = "genname" -> it will generate you a cool username -> Properties: letters_max=**16 **symbols_max=16 numbers_max=16
command= "genkey" -> it will generate you a 32 character key -> Properties: letters=**6 **symbols=**12 **numbers=6
Doesn't work. I can still exit by using the regenerate response button.

Is SVG also based on Logo?
a filled square is self-similar too
properly defining, what fractals are, is somewhat difficult
.
last time I tried writing Mandelbrot set generation algorithm, it was in JS
not really good, but somewhat works
(I have no idea whether it works on all browsers)
(if you want to look into the source code, be ready that it's very bad; you've been warned)
It's not infinite though?
what do you mean by infinite?
Oh. I just needed to zoom out

there are also controls for colouring/depth parameters, but I don't remember any of them

timeit.timeit(stmt='pass', setup='pass', timer=<default timer>, number=1000000, globals=None)```
Create a [`Timer`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/timeit.html#timeit.Timer "timeit.Timer") instance with the given statement, *setup* code and *timer* function and run its [`timeit()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/timeit.html#timeit.Timer.timeit "timeit.Timer.timeit") method with *number* executions. The optional *globals* argument specifies a namespace in which to execute the code.
Changed in version 3.5: The optional *globals* parameter was added.
stmt is the thing you want to time.
setup is code you want to run before each trial.
NetBeans Platform CRUD Application Tutorial - Apache NetBeans
You may want to reduce number to a smaller number. It's the number of times the statement is run.
Erm, the ?timeit command in ipython does that.
And also gives you an estimate of the standard error of the mean.

I'm using JSON as a "database" too but I can prove its correctness and reliability
why? yes
though, actually
MongoDB is JSON-as-a-database in some sense too
but, like, not really
it's BSON instead, afaik
(never do that unless the whole point of what you do is to check whether it's possible)
reason being:
with open("easy.json", "r") as file: can fail twice
also
this must obviously be a function/method
with open("easy.json", "r") as file:
data = json.load(file)
and "JSON" there is how documents are structured, not the DB itself
there's, like, so much wrong if you ever try to do that
at the point when you fix all the issues, you'll realise how useless the DB you ended up with is

hi
@flint girder
first is taken as the definition
second is a specific case
third is a derived from the second
I don't think the school will require you to prove that
depends on the calculator
but you won't be able to use it for square roots

if your calculator is smart enough, it will tell you it's 10/7
but if you're unlucky, it will tell 1.42857

log of b base a
oh
that calculator probably doesn't have log
I guess you'll have to learn what logarithm is anyway

how many years are you into python?
nice
4 years for me
from those links
sheeeesh
and this too
exactly what I wrote earlier
Have you develop some cool stuff??
I've made a few large projects and definitely a lot of cool little things
You have a github accaunt?
step-by-step example of how to apply rules that are written down on that site
Yeah but a lot of my stuff isn't on there and my big projects are private because I was selling them for a couple of years. I need to upload a bunch of stuff from my comp.
Yo bro thats cool
the only thing I developed is packman and minesweeperπ
That's awesome! How long have you been programming?
Like a year I think but now I want to learn javascript html and css
You know pygame?
I've used it for a few things
js html and css was what I learned after a year of Python. It's an easy transition.
I'm half of your ageπ π π
It is never late to start programming
Yeah, I wish I got into it sooner, but better now than never
Yeah, I would have been set up in a career by now if I had started earlier though
or, if the first variant wasn't detailed enough:
I'm so bad at it I uninstalled π€£
I get motion sickness from playing FPS games
cod is cool
just like me with CS:GO
but valorant is very intense
I was less bad at it earlier
(mg2, afair)
just like everyone with csgoπ
CS:GO performance is garbage
thats a dope game but its kinda hard to master
read through this first and make sure you understand it

Utilisation des logiciels Geogebra et de la calculatrice Numworks.

are you using Geogebra/Numworks?
We know that if y=10^x then x=log(y)
Therefore we can raise both sides to the ^10
That gives a/b + b/a = a+b
Multiply both sides with a*b gives
a^2 + b^2 = a^2*b + b^2*a
The only time this would be the case (assuming my line of reasoning is right) is if one of the variables (a or b) is >1 and the other is <1 so I believe it's the first option, a-b=1
those both have tools to calculate and visualise logarithms
where does 10 even come from
log(10^x)=x
log_10(10^x) = x
Welp, in Swedish notation lg is log_10
Yea
@flint girder no, I can't do it other than in text form now
log(a) + log(b) = log(a*b)
log(a/b) + log(b/a) = log(1)
Oh, no cause it's log and not lg
Wait log base e is denoted as just log??
ln
We don't really need the base of this. The solution is base agnostic
If it's base agnostic then my solution should also still work
Just replace the 10 with whatever the base is
correct notation of log base 10 is "lg"
correct notation of log base e is "ln"
default meaning of "log" is often log base e
The official Google calculator has "log" be log base 10
a/b + b/a = a+b
^ must be `*` not `+`
"raise both sides to the ^10" is wrong too
because it's
10^ not ^10
That's correct, my bad
Oh yea, cause it'd be 10^(log(a/b + log(b/a)) and not 10^(log(a/b)) + 10^(log(b/a))
base 10 apparently
very wrong typesetting
if must be typeset as text not maths
Oh, it's not a complex equation
Haha yes.
And yes base 10. Apparently google uses log without base to mean base 10
!rule 2
1. Follow the Python Discord Code of Conduct.
Doing 10^ on either side should work better here
Would be 225^(1/log(15)), is that how that works?
log(15^2)/log(15) = log(x)
2log(15)/log(15)=log(x)
assuming we're dealing with real positive bases
Ah, that'd also work
The thing is we cannot use calculator for these problems. So we have to be clever about the solution.
