thats what i do is just chuck more threads
you don't need 1000 threads to handle 1000 requests at once
en masse, you only really need threads for CPU-bound stuff
i mainly used flask for apis anyway
database requests, file system interactions, networking -- this all is not CPU-bound
and this all takes a lot of time
APIs are even more sensitive to performance issues
you can't cache a POST request
because, no, you can't cache them
i use to be able to handle around 6000-10000 rps from a ddos attack with flask
how much of these requests were dropped?
these requests
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
it was processing all of the 6000-10k req
I'll phrase differently:
how often did flask fail?
okay
i'm workin so cant rly talk but I will be listening
why not ... FastAPI?
did the requests do any database/filesystem operations?
didnt know about it at the time
no. thats why it most likely able to handle that
exactly
i mean gunicorn still made a massive difference
without i could only handle 500, with it i could handle 5000+
because flask
- is popular
- is simple
- no one, who starts to learn the language, wants to learn async because
spooky scary keywordsnot easy
how many cores did it run on?
fair enough
it needs to queue requests somewhere (therefore RAM usage)
under the hood it actually quite probably does async and stuff
10x speed up is probably from 4-8x by cores and something else thanks to optimisation
also older browsers may have mishandled response headers
UDP + NTP
glorious
NTP multiplies it
amp attack yes
there was some weird command in the protocol
like, respond with last 200 requests
and you can spoof where it will send back
to be fair, there was a weirder number
like 600
any unlimited amplification is bad in general
you wouldn't really want yourself as an NTP server operator allowing that inadequate request to receive any response in the first place
they are a private company
they do whatever the f they want
it was never open
OpenAI is not open
unrestricted information results in unrestricted misinformation also
so there's that non-trivial choice
what are you doing @lunar haven
are you creating something
ok
are you a mod
how are you able to stream

Most new programming languages are accidentally designed to be backwards compatible with punchcards. This talk argues that it would be better to focus on building new live programming environments that can help us solve the problems of the future.

there is a data flow
I need to do such "fun" stuff as resource allocation, process prioritisation and other
low latency
- it's over the network, so language speed doesn't really matter
- the library, that is required, is written in python (and making interface to some other language would be unreasonable)

"Worker" and "Pool" will stay as they are
"Job" is unlikely to change
simpler unit of a Job still has no proper name (it's not a task though)
same for worker-task pair

"State" is the least descriptive amongst all of them

class super``````py
class super(type, object_or_type=None)```
Return a proxy object that delegates method calls to a parent or sibling class of *type*. This is useful for accessing inherited methods that have been overridden in a class.
The *object\_or\_type* determines the [method resolution order](https://docs.python.org/3/glossary.html#term-method-resolution-order) to be searched. The search starts from the class right after the *type*.
For example, if [`__mro__`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/stdtypes.html#class.__mro__ "class.__mro__") of *object\_or\_type* is `D -> B -> C -> A -> object` and the value of *type* is `B`, then [`super()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/functions.html#super "super") searches `C -> A -> object`.
The [`__mro__`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/stdtypes.html#class.__mro__ "class.__mro__") attribute of the *object\_or\_type* lists the method resolution search order used by both [`getattr()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/functions.html#getattr "getattr") and [`super()`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/functions.html#super "super"). The attribute is dynamic and can change whenever the inheritance hierarchy is updated.

- to "bind" several other values together -
for example, if you need to store person's last name, first name and age together in one value
- to "bind" values with related behaviour -
building onto the same example:
suppose we want to format person's name in some way
instead of a function that takes last name and first name we either:
- call a method on the person
- call a function with the person as an argument
- to allow for a better abstraction of varied behaviour or structure -
(I can't provide a proper example right now without thinking)

you can do multiplication before addition in some educational programs
especially in "learning maths correctly" situation which builds up from fundamentals
though it's more for re-learning rather than encountering for the first time
it's +1, then abstract multiplication, then abstract addition, then concrete addition, then concrete multiplication
you do need +1 though because that's what a lot of theorems build on top of

torch may be installed incorrectly
- may have been
or it may have been misupgraded
or the env may not be correctly activated
Note: The CUDA Version displayed in this table does not indicate that the CUDA toolkit or runtime are actually installed on your system. This just indicates the latest version of CUDA your graphics driver is compatible with.
i.e. latest driver does not guarantee the latest toolkit
if the latest torch version relies on the the latest toolkit, then there might be issues if it's not updated

I just still don't get what's happening there
one-letter variables are fine when their meaning is very clear:
except Exception as e:
future.set_exception(e)
(lambda x: x ** 2)
also pairs like k,v
lisp go brrr
though, arguably, having (((( or )))) even in lisp is at least a red flag
refactor until you can't misuse the code
or misunderstand it
this is, by the way where classes like this are useful:
class Prime:
def __init__(self, n: int):
self.n = n
def mod_4(self):
return self.n % 4
assuming the user generally is not dumb enough to Prime(n) on an n they don't know to be prime for a fact
imagine having 50% of the whole code base being one library of which only one 70-line class (not depending on the rest of the library) is used outside
there have definitely been some architectural misunderstandings
one day this class will become a library on its own
but not today

hi*
next time, thanks
Bruh my discord is glitchy. It adds me to the call everytime I open discord
Does this happen to anyone else
Do you leave voice by disconnecting from voice using Discord, or do you just turn off wifi or something?
A perturbing mystery.
But it randomly adds me to the call
As soon as I open discord
But it's not consistent. It happens randomly. Probably when my phone is sleeping for a while
@wintry cloak π
I've noticed that this happens with other discord calls too sometimes. It's a mystery

Find something that interests you that you don't know and study it.
Maybe play around with specific frameworks/modules/libraries.

When we did 500 Days of Summer 8 years later, we spent every...

Here's how to format Python code on Discord:
```py
print('Hello world!')
```
These are backticks, not quotes. Check this out if you can't find the backtick key.
!e
code
!eval [python_version] <code, ...>
Can also use: e
Run Python code and get the results.
This command supports multiple lines of code, including code wrapped inside a formatted code block. Code can be re-evaluated by editing the original message within 10 seconds and clicking the reaction that subsequently appears.
If multiple codeblocks are in a message, all of them will be joined and evaluated, ignoring the text outside of them.
By default your code is run on Python's 3.11 beta release, to assist with testing. If you run into issues related to this Python version, you can request the bot to use Python 3.10 by specifying the python_version arg and setting it to 3.10.
We've done our best to make this sandboxed, but do let us know if you manage to find an issue with it!

@lunar haven
why subclass dict and not UserDict?
it's faster not better
you will solve stuff faster not sooner
the dict that's better fit for subclassing
!d collections.UserDict
class collections.UserDict([initialdata])```
Class that simulates a dictionary. The instanceβs contents are kept in a regular dictionary, which is accessible via the [`data`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/collections.html#collections.UserDict.data "collections.UserDict.data") attribute of [`UserDict`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/collections.html#collections.UserDict "collections.UserDict") instances. If *initialdata* is provided, [`data`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/collections.html#collections.UserDict.data "collections.UserDict.data") is initialized with its contents; note that a reference to *initialdata* will not be kept, allowing it to be used for other purposes.
In addition to supporting the methods and operations of mappings, [`UserDict`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/collections.html#collections.UserDict "collections.UserDict") instances provide the following attribute:
@somber heath
if it's better described as "parse atoms", it usually should stay in a methods called "parse atoms"
for better clarity
IF this thing wasn't called Atoms taking moov as an argument implying it will parse in init anyway
though
why is parse_atoms not returning a dict and instead is updating self?
that looks weird
idk
function parse_atoms
and then
call to UserDict init with the function's result
get may not call to getitem
or something like that
The need for this class has been partially supplanted by the ability to subclass directly from dict; however, this class can be easier to work with because the underlying dictionary is accessible as an attribute.
though there are no warnings to not subclass from dict
from what I see
how dict handles subclassing:
If a subclass of dict defines a method
__missing__()and key is not present, thed[key]operation calls that method with the key key as argument. Thed[key]operation then returns or raises whatever is returned or raised by the__missing__(key)call. No other operations or methods invoke__missing__(). If__missing__()is not defined,KeyErroris raised.__missing__()must be a method; it cannot be an instance variable
so, for most applications it's equivalent
