Disney hasn't really been giving us good movies this decade

hopefully i enjoy the movie, because my God, this movie got into development hell and now everyone thinks it's worse than Lightyear

i remember people giving a ton of attention on Inside Out 2 when it released

When Elio was coming out (we can check #crits-cartoon-natter for posterity, I think the general consensus was a big meh/disinterest.
Then Elio comes out and here the consenses was "wow that's pretty good"

It happens with more original movies than not, its funny atp now.

1- I felt the movie was a bit slow paced and just dragging itself throughout.
2- the animation isn't my kind of thing.. It looked like ai
3- it didn't hit any of my Emotions.. Like I didn't feel any type of strong emotions towards it..
(There are a few of my reasons. My personal opinion)

I was the same but I kinda force myself to watch certain movies now if they catch my attention

I think ELIO was nearly cancelled at some point (I don't remember where I saw it..i just think I did) and people were upset because It was an original idea.. Then it came out and people started absolutely tearing it apart for no reason.. But then you watch it and be like.."wow this is actually a pretty good and solid movie"

Agree, and its like, don't get me wrong, pumped for stuff like the new Bad Guys or SpiderVerse, but at one point, there was a first one that I gave a shot

Like how some are excited for Shrek 5, there was a first one that people gave a try

Not saying that Elio or any recent Pixar movie needs a sequel, but that the energy given to original movies felt different back then

Any original movie had the chance to be the next BIG THING.. They were different and every movie had something new to offer that was distinct from the other movies.

Shrek, lilo and stitch, httyd, inside out, toy story 1, Madagascar and MANY MANY others all had their own different story..
different artsyles..
different endings..
Different messages..
Which made them unique and different and I liked them all a lot for different reasons..not saying the new movies are bad per se.. But there's just something different about before and now

Real LGBT people and projects and writing can range from being subtle to loud and wild, depending on who writes it. Then its up to the audience if they like it.

Yeah, looking back, Lazy in Space is very different in vibes. I dont dislike it but it feels more streamlined for the story rather than feeling more 'raw' in a sense of you followed where the show took you emotionally.

Pro: The story is clearer and we get moments placed in the right time to explain what things mean or why its happening

Con: It loses that sort of loose storytelling feeling the original had and some key moments that were recreated don't have the same punch as they used to.

I dont care this time of "Shes voiced by Usagi's english VA!!" cause the writing for Toast is really just...annoying and her entire humor is ignoring everything said to her and assuming what she heard to then attack Castaspella or say something silly and detatched from the convo half the time.

I feel kind of sad that the first few eps of Lazy In Space are sort of speedrunning alot of the early stuff. I understand WHY theyre doing it but it kind of hurts the pacing/impact for me and I can't imagine how confusing it'd be for new viewers who are sort of being quickly explained stuff that had alot more pacing and time dedicated to it.

This had alot more and just better visual context in the original where she was in a cat onesie rather than a cat sort of cosplay honestly.

I dont want to ever have anyone immediately grab my opinion and agree with me that I think Pixar movies look similar or I endorse the "bean mouth" complaint, but I do see to some extent their confusion and annoyance with art styles looking similar. I think people also just dont think far enough in what makes these movies visually different cause they see the soft edges, round eyes, and bean mouths and think its the same thing.

If they'd pay attention, they'd see the design goes beyond that and more especially with style and color palette. Luca does not share Turning Reds' palette, and TR's doesn't share Elio's. Theres alot of subtle details that makes them unique.

I also feel very much that alot of these complaints come from the fact people have come to hate or rag on anything cutesy looking like how the 2000s had boys recoil at the color pink. I couldn't tell you what they want from an art style all the time bc it can be a hypocritical and very biased answer but at the same time a good chunk of these people are just super attached to other movies with a specific art style they want to see again.

Compared to Alberto, who is taller, has a bigger head, and his eyes arent as wide all the time due to his character having experienced some things. Theyre only wide when hes happy with Luca. He appears taller, stronger(in some regard) and like a bigger brother or figure Luca looks up to in the movie

Also this entire movie is about summer friendship, it looks like a cartoonish post card from Italy, presenting this big fun place to you as if the fun could never end. People look friendly, places look open, etc. Youre meant to feel like youre on vacation in a fun new place.

Depends on your taste, but its best not to listen to people online about these movies since for some reason they have a high confusing standard for spongebob and sometimes it can boil down to "this isnt what i remember as a kid"

I don't honestly like to rely on nostalgia if I'm rating something. Like newer Spongebob is considered "hated" and "not the same" but honestly I can sit and enjoy some new episodes of it. I like some of the new episodes a lot actually.
