#Draft “standard” - draft pick rules?

So running a standard legal draft, I got a presumably BRO pack, that had a BRR artifact in it.

Would this be a legal pick?
Since BRR is not of the Standard legal sets?

I guess I could pick it but not able to put it in the main deck? I haven’t picked it, but it was just a thought.

If I can pick it and its not legal to put in the draft deck, is there a check to make sure it’s not added to the deck illegally, by bot or human?

Not sure what you mean by "Standard legal draft'

gentle blaze
#

A draft, with “standard” as the block?

#

Maybe not block, but the pack selection

hardy stratus
#

I mean, if it just means the packs come from Standard sets?

gentle blaze
#

If it was a tournament would it be a legal pick?

hardy stratus
#

When you draft you can play any card that appears in your pack IRL

#

I don't see why that would be any different here

#

Just because it came from a "Standard legal set" doesn't mean every card in it it is

gentle blaze
#

Hmm.. so draft and tournament are different? (Never played so just asking) if a tournament was “standard” sets, would a BRR card be allowed since it came from a BRO pack, or no because it’s not BRO itself?

hardy stratus
#

I'm not sure i underestand the difference you are saying here

gentle blaze
#

Assuming a preconstructed tournament

hardy stratus
#

Is this a limited tournament or a constructed tournament?

gentle blaze
#

Constructed

#

I guess

#

I’m trying to draw the line in my mind if it’s ok to have that card picked by the computer…

IRL if you're opening a draft booster, whatever the kind of tournament, if it's in the pack you can use it, right?

#

The pack had retro artifacts from BRR so they can be used

#

But also I don't think there's such a thing as "standard" draft?

#

Draft IRL is just draft packs from the sets they are running

#

Do we have Standard draft in Forge?

gentle blaze
#

Being a standard draft, would be a misnomer

ember shell
#

Ah well in that case it will just use whatever the draft packs you pick, in this case BRO draft did include BRR cards

#

So when BRO is legal in Standard, you'd get this

gentle blaze
#

I wanted some breadth of packs, but then went down a rabbit hole of “ok well what is standard”

ember shell
#

Yeah Standard and Draft don't really have the same legality

#

I guess it's more draft packs from Standard legal sets (which sometimes include other cards)

#

Idk maybe I'm not understanding the question properly though kewk

gentle blaze
#

Set legality of “standard” would apply to constructed tournaments

#

Where brr would not be allowed

#

A draft, would accept the brr, unless the specific card was banned

#

Thank you both.

hardy stratus
#

Honestly, I don't recall very many instance where a limited pool has banned cards. I'm not sure how you would monitor that, and I'm not sure how broken a typically banned card would be in that environment

ember shell
#

Yeah I mean draft boosters are designed for that specific draft, I don't know of any reason anything would be banned there

#

According to the wiki it's never happened

gentle blaze
#

Oh it just has the one mox

#

Oh they were restricted… not banned.

ember shell
#

That's a lightweight mox

#

But either way, even if anything was banned or restricted it's always in that format, not everywhere

#

If something is banned in Standard it doesn't carry over to limited

hardy stratus
#

There's just not really a thing such as "Banned in Limited"

#

I think this is the only example where i can remember things not being allowed

-Tourney rules have been updated to clarify that cards opened in packs not belonging to that set aren't limited legal, and if deck swaps are done, you keep the cards not belonging to the set.

#

But all of these other promo editions are fine

gentle blaze
hardy stratus
#

No

#

That was only a special circumstances

#

Typically, if you open it you can play it

#

If you are drafting with BRO, anything in that pack is available to be drafted and played

gentle blaze
#

ok

#

Sorry I'm so dumb to the game. I've spent the last 3 hours trying to make a draft deck. 😦 And my brain went off on that sidequest.

hardy stratus
#

Yea thats kinda why i was trying to ask you about Standard. When you draft, the only thing that gets defined is what packs get opened

#

In Urza's block, if I grab a Memory Jar, its ok, i might get to draw 7 cards and play 2 or 3 of them. But I'm not gonna insta-win
