I moved over to Debian a bit ago on my laptop but I can't figure out how to add a Chinese input for simplified into it. I've got IBus + Rime on there right now but anything I type goes to traditional not simplified.

You can download a noon input method, such as Sogou input method or Baidu input method.

do you know which pinyin input method you're using on rime? @rocky sinew

#

like terra pinyin etc

#

depending on what you're using, you can probably type F4 to bring up the input method settings

#

and selecting something that looks like 漢字-->汉字 or 简体-->繁體 will switch to simplified

#

i haven't touched rime in several months so my memory is a bit rusty
