I went through the setup procedure yesterday per your link. Now today the desktop icon is gone and Steam wouldn't load. I uninstalled Kane, uninstalled Steam. I re-installed Steam, re-installed Kane from my library, then installed the CCO_TacitusInstaller_v1. Now Steam loads from desktop icon, but the icon for Kane is still missing from my desktop and though I see games listed it still won't let me join. Could it be I don't have the maps they are using, and where do I get them?
#Installed yesterday, now it's disappeared. Why?

Can you show me a screenshot of your issue with the game?
Desktop shortcuts is a steam thing.
So I will focus on your issue with the game
Someone gave me a link to maps, downloaded and installed, but still can't join or create games. It shows I have excellent connection speed, but when I click "join" or "create" .... nothing happens.
https://discord.com/channels/264522892455182346/1364618677101531296 we already discussed it here and you didn't want my help. Have you changed your mind?
It's like I'm there as an observer to the lobby only.
It sounds like it's a program thing, not specifically related to my pc. I re-did everything, following instructions per your link and it still won't connect. Maybe it's a porting issue with my router? Also, I use Windows Defender only, Opera GX browser, no VPN.
Likely a port forwarding issue yeah
So you want my help after all?
Even though it takes some effort?
Even though I have a few new maps, after another long night of playing AI opponents, I'd still like to interact with humans, yes.
Do you know how to login to your router?
No, it's one I rent from my local internet provider - Mountain Telephone.
Six options for network issues, try from top to bottom, test after each step, don't perform any steps on your own when the step says you shouldn't, don't skip it, but be patient till we get back to you:
- Switch the 6667 port to 16667 in the Tacitus overlay's (Ctrl +T) network tab. Countries like Maleysia, other Asian countries, some ISPs (like the Dutch KPN) and universities might block those.
- Select a different IP-address from the dropdown in the network settings of the in-game options menu. Try all of the options it supplies and try to go into an online game after choosing a different one.
- VPN (quick and dirty workaround, we recommend the free version of Privado as it is known to work with CnC games, remember to set the in-game IP setting to the one provided by the VPN)
Lets not try any of the router-related ones and the firewall solution likely never works anyways haha
Yeah, I don't know how to do any of what you listed.,
GG @digital jewel, you just advanced to level 4!
Also not the first two? The instructions on those are quite clear.
To do what you listed, I would have to know how to get into the router right? That I don't know, so can't change any ports.
The routers I've owned came with instructions on how to get in and change or add ports. This one is rented, so no instructions.
Don't know where you live, but where I live ... East Kentucky USA, it's 5 am, and I'm sleeping. I'll deal more with this issue when I get up. (I gotta find the setting in Discord on how to turn off notifications sounds)
I specifically asked you if you knew how to get into your router, you said no, so I striked those options off. You can see that all the other steps don't involve the router.
So, please try the first two, which are both in-game aspects and try the last solution (VPN) in case the first two failed.
I've removed the striked through ones for absolute clarity
But thought striking them through was already making it quite obvious
It won't allow me to change IP once in game OR before logging on.
Can you show me a screenshot of where you tried to adjust that?
Did you try the solution with the ports in the Tacitus overlay?
I got into Tacitus, change that solution and can create games now.
Still haven't been able to change IP though
Chill
Then skip changing the ip for now and see if it works this way
Not enough players creating games to try joining right now. The only available one is using a map I don't have yet.
Ask in #looking-for-games maybe
I wish this game was like Total Annihilation, if you didn't have the map it would d/l it for you if you wanted it.
Is your issue now solved thus?
Workshop implementation was meant to do that, but it sadly turns out it has issues with online play. Already on the known issues list at EA, so hopefully it gets fixed. No ETA
