http://server.cnc-online.net/downloads/NATNegTest.rar Download and extract that. Run the .bat file and show me the output.
Through a screenshot of the output
Steam or EA app btw?
the .bat file
GG @rugged fern, you just advanced to level 1!
ok, your network setup seems to be ok
have you adjusted KW in any way with mods or tweaks?
nope
i installed the game and added right away cnc online and it asked me to install i think a patch or something but thats it
Ok, can you download the tacitus installer from the C&C:Online website to reinstall Tacitus?
Maybe that is the issue
alright ill try again
Maybe the auto-updater did something wrong
can you confirm that the old C&C:Online launcher has been removed from your computer?
i didnt have it
oh, you meant the LAA patch
ok, try this and if that doesn't work, I hope others might have an idea
Yea thats what it downloaded right after i launched the game with tacitus
is there a way to uninstall tacitus do? so i can reinstall it afterwards
it doesn't download it, but apply it by itself
ah okay
yeah, running the dowloaded installer should give the uninstall option
If I'm correct
runn as admin
Double slash error (again)
GG @fluid kernel, you just advanced to level 6!
runn the installation as an administrator
alright
same thing
Open regedit and navigate to :
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Electronic Arts\Electronic Arts\Command and Conquer 3 Kanes Wrath
From there, you should see a "InstallPath" entry.
Normaly you only need to remove one / in the end of the value inside
with administrator privilege
alright let me check
can you give me a screenshot before apply the edit?
if you dont know how to, a simple script that do it for you
I would* like a proof of steam version having a double slash
i just tried the script
GG @rugged fern, you just advanced to level 2!
thats my version of steam
I did mean the registry itself, but it doesnt matter dont worry
alright
Try the installer again after applying the script
ok than try installing Tacitus again
run as admin
yeah it successfully installed, what doesnt work?
seems like firewall blocking it?
Was it working before with the cco launcher?
didnt have it , i just installed it for the first time
im a first timer with cnc 🫣
A user have the similar problem as you. Steam. Tacitus installation error. Once everything finally setup, online doesn't work neither
yeah
Oh, great 🙂
thank u guys !!
Dont forget to join us in the 4v4 😄
not yet let me warm up first and surely imma get my ass whoop i suck at rts hahahaha
@tardy flax Mind if I link you to another support section?
Hey yeah, weird
I do really wonder what's going on with that error. Is it just some users or every steam users face this problem
I'm having a similar issue where I can get into a match but it won't connect.
Trying to play with my friend and the connection just dies.
I have the same issue with the trailing slash
Shall I put this maybe in the known issues list for CCHyper to analyze?
I have it also for tiberium wars
It's when there is a double \\ in the end i do believe
One slash in the end is fine since it's like that with DVD version
And it worked flawlessly for me with TW and KW right from the first attempt
they already know
Oh, then my install path is ok right?
Do you had error with the tacitus installer?
Yeah, but we are compiling an extensive known issues list to inform CCHyper better, but to also make it easier for us to tell the community whether an issue is known or not
Yeah its fine no double slash
I didnt had the chance to capture screenshot from player that had this error
As they quickly applied the fix and was repaired
here it already complains about one backslash at the end
but the issue is the double backslash yeah
But steam was apparently reverting the registry, because i had to make the player close steam for it to work because as soon he try install it again, he didn't worked because of that
Curious as to what is causing this, suspect some kind of tweak or mod
Certainly isn't default Steam installscript behavior
I suspect maybe old registry fix or maybe steam fixed the regedit, idk
I suspect it could be some kind of steam install path error if this is the case
There was in the past, and user had to fix registry, but now steam apply the correct one
So i do believe tacitus took the missing \ into consideration, but steam also updated it, so now it give error
Ah okay makes sense
It's my theory but i am not sure about it
Its very weird for sure though
And since they worked so hard these time, i assume first a end-user error from players
I see nothing strange here
So, see the issue happening at rare times, but with no pattern it is hard to note it down as a known issue
If anyone ever suspects a pattern, let me know
GG @cunning mango, you just advanced to level 9!
I find it weird because my tib wars gave the dll error. Repaired via steam. Then ran as admin. Installer worked on the tib wars files. Ran the game. Got shoved into an error. Ran game as admin, all good
Weird
Is the script execute one code for all platform?
Yeah, the installscript is for all platforms
There can be only one... installscript
DVD version have one \ in the end. Need to know how steam registry installpath is
(not passive-aggressive, highlander reference)
Is the same, one backslach at the end
For me at least
I do believe it was or missing one, or having a double backslash way long in the past for steam
What is strange, is when we do fixed one player registry with steam open or opening the game for testing if it still work before installation of tacitus, well the registry got reverted back and tacitus gave back the error, had to repeat the process with steam closed to be sure, install tacitus and then it has been installed fine
well, looked at the installscript from my backed up last version... backslashes are the same as in my existing installscript in the latest version
previous version
It was for TW players btw, to be more precise
Well, KW players are suffering from it now haha
i don't understand the %installdir%\\CNC3TW\\ why this cnc3tw reference when KW have only %installdir%\\
its the dummy file
This is TW previous version
kw needs TW to launch
This was KW
Yes my horse is correct
Oh yeah, the standalone
it need the reg key and dummy files in CNC3TW
yeah yeah, i builded my own after seeing how it was done to custom my filepath too
Then it must have been fixed with the launch of the new version of Steam, because apart from the newest version and the previous one, that is the only time the installscript file was adjusted; https://steamdb.info/patchnotes/13579768/
it's basically this https://kaneswrath.com/download/kanes_wrath_no_tiberium_wars_spoofer/
Oh yeah you made it an installer too :p
The good/bad old days haha
I did used an old standalone, but i couldnt choose the path, so i grabbed the ressource, the reg edit, and zipped that ^^
But what is exactly your script @cunning mango I didn't understood the context of it actually
Those were the official installscript files shipped with the Steam releases for proper installation, the part that I showed was regarding the proper setup of the registry keys
Not my work thus
Oh, alright, got it
All games on Steam ship with it
Devs can adjust it for their games, like CCHyper did
Oh yeah i see now, i just never opened any installscript from steam until now, haha thanks, you teached me something very interesting
Those are hella interesting haha, especially for more classic games
Which rely much on registry keys... and the circle comes round
yep yep i did it
i saw the firewall last line pointing to 1.09
its the previous one then?
same file for me
ok, let me take a look
But nvm, i was just curious if the 1.10 was adding firewall entry for TW
You are awesome, this is an error in the installscript
Might be the cause of connection issues
o_O
GG @fluid kernel, you just advanced to level 7!
no, people can't edit the installscript, it wil revert itself on boot
Gonna add this to the known issues list
But even after manually adding that rule to a user firewall windows, online don't work
but maybe, maybe
pity, but this still isn't right
show me the one for KW just to see if it's the same or not
Added as a known issue
I honestly don't want to buy it again when i have bought the dvd version
what is latest KW version, 1.3 right?
yep
Check ra3 while on this? while im not sure if that can interfer so much
ok, give me latest versions of CnC4, RA3 and Uprising
I don't know them at all,i don't play any, but if kw is alike, the others are probably too
But it's only for user who use the default windows firewall
Uprising too
Other firewall should popup a dialogbox for allowing transfer
But maybe, try telling some user to check their windows firewall and create a new rule to point the latest *.dat version of their game. If they don't use third party firewall, windows will never popup a dialogbox i think, and the connection is maybe denied actually
Because actually, when using the new version, it doesnt try to add the rule anymore, because the prior version, already did it, it's not asking anymore when you're actually going to multiplayer for the first time after installation
It will ask people for permission to go offline, but many people get scared by that or find it annoying, or confuse it with a UAC prompt and then click it away, causing all kinds of issues
Found firewall exception issues with Generals, ZH, TW, KW, RA3, Upr and TT
Generals and ZH forgot to add the main game.dat as an exception
others all pointing to old executables by accident
The problem, with compatibility, we need both last version and new version to be allowed by the windows firewall
All documented in the known issues list
Because of people switching back to that version, we cannot edit the old rule, need a one, so the script will require now the both
I don't know if any bat or ps file could create those rule automatically for lambda user
Or if we wait for steam to update the script
But this can explain a lot of user not being able to go online anymore, suggest them to use the tacitus switcher just to check if their previous *.dat have internet access, If yes, then you got the culprist there. If no, it's network/isp/vpn related
Added it to the known issues to add all executables as exceptions as well or at least the previous version
CCHyper has publicly stated he plans on hotfixes
Nice to hear
Don't know when this would get pushed though
It's more probably rest time for now, maybe few days. They deserve it
I already feel the pain of Edvin to read trough all that lol
Highly doubt honestly that this is the main issue, only probably for people who dumbly click no when that popup to be allowed to connect online pops up
This is also probably interesting to read https://discord.com/channels/264522892455182346/1346142485964914809
They are probably a lot not paying attention to that firewall permissions
Ok, poor @gusty torrent: summary for you, the Steam installscripts contain errors; firewall exception issues with Generals, ZH, TW, KW, RA3, Upr and TT. Causes the game not to have their main game's executables added as a firewall exception during install. Only probably for people who dumbly click no when that popup to be allowed to connect online pops up this will result in issues, but a lot get scared maybe by it and hit no haha
Probably
CCHyper obviously forgot this in all the chaos, can't blame him. The poor man has to mostly do it alone in combination with one EA employee and few community helpers
Well, we should probably stop here, i think we spammed it a bit too much as we completely derailed from main topic lol, DM me if you want
It might actually be the main cause of the original issue
Yeah i absolutely understand, i saw a bunch of them working hard all the time on the discord activites
Edvin, if we derailed this topic in your opinion; bite me
Thanks for the help man @fluid kernel
You noticed the first sprinkle of the issue
You're welcome, i desired to help where i actually can. My pleasure
