I'm starting a new city since the 1.2.5F1 update.
For now I only have rough plans, the goal will be to have a green and open city of approx. 500.000 citizens.
This is the first time I'll be putting more effort than usual into a city, and I'll try to learn new techniques as I grow the city. I hope you guys will enjoy the journey!
Please note that I'm still relatively new to CS2, and if you have any feedback please let me know! (but be constructive)

I'll be making the major rail lines first, as I want to center the city around public transport.
The first large station on the left will server the CBD, and the one on the right is the Central Station. Both of which will be major transit hubs which is why I'm building those first.

The reason I'm leaving so much space to the sides of the tracks is for a possible metro line to run next to the trains, but I'm not sure of this yet. Better safe than sorry

#

(The metro will be underground at the main terminus station, making transfers to other underground lines easier. Then it'll pop out where the trees are now on the left side)

The main grid for the downtown had been laid down
At this point I'm finalizing some things, such as the following:

  • Optimization for public transportation (Trams, busses, etc)
  • Parking
  • Small details and making some grids smaller and/or unique looking

Development update

I've zoned the first few building to see what the city will look like and make adjustments where needed. So far I really like the look of the mid-rise building along the city park!
I will eventually also build high-rise apartments but I want to build slowly so I don't get massive death waves. Along with that, I want to keep the central district mostly historical which adds to the vibe of the city.

Development Update

It's been a few days, I just got a new job so I was more busy with that, but in my free time I continued on the city!
I've more or less roughly finished the look of the old centrum, with lots of 'historical' buildings and a few seating spaces/parks scattered around. I've also started working on the newest addition, the North of the city. This is supposed to resemble recent development, which can be seen with modern mixed-use and some high-rise buildings, alongside that there's a lot of green space and parks all over the district
I hope you like the look of the city so far, and let me know if there's any feedback ya'll wanna share!

Another update!

I've been working on the city centre for a few hours, I really like how it looks!
The building curving around corners and streets look amazing, much better than I furst anticipated since it's my first time using Find It!
I'm getting close to finishing the historical centre, and I'll slowly build outwards from here. I'll of course update ya'll while I do

Small update!

I expanded the historical centre right to the train station, where I also built the (fittingly) historical city hall, and honestly, it looks amazing!
On the other big patch of grass I'll eventually be making a major tram & metro hub, once I implement those systems in my city.

Another small update

Haven't had as much time as I would've wanted today.
I was supposed to get a new bike today, but the delivery driver never passed my house and marked the delivery as "Customer wasn't home", even though I was. So I was pretty busy going back n forth with customer service all day...

Anyways, here's a small park I made in the little free time I had, it's not exactly perfect and I will be adjusting a few things here and there but it's mostly complete

New update!

I've been pretty busy with other stuff but I have had some free time, which I spent wisely on CS2 of course
The historical center has been expanded yet again, now to the city center limits on the north side of the Central train station. All that is left now is the south side of the station.

Another update

I've been busy with testing and adjusting my new bike I got yesterday, so I was touching some real grass instead of playing CS2.
Jokes aside, I did make some minimal progress, and I started planning a basic layout for the south side of the station, which will mostly consist of cheaper (but still very expensive because it's near the centrum) historic apartments, I'll slowly expand my way south until the centrum limits, and then I'll finally continue on the CBD and North (modern dense apartments) side!

The city is progressing!

Unline I said yesterday, I decided to expand the historical North side of the centrum. Mostly because of motivation reasons though lol.
Well, at least it's done now and I don't have to think about it again, I'm basically forced to expand to the south now...
Anyway, not much else to say, these are mostly high density apartments since it's not really a realistically appealing place to shop in.
I hope you like the screenshots so far of the progress :)

Might make some kind of cinematic video of the progress once the historical centrum is finished. It doesn't require too much effort and shows a lot more than just a few screenshots.

#

Might make one for every district I finish actually

BIG update

After a while of considering different uses for the akwardly shaped piece of land, I have chosen to put the Notre Dame there.
This big church fits well with the historical centrum and it's located right next to the train station and a major transit hub that will be coming later.
I personally love the look of it right next to the station csHappy

I wanted a highway like this modeled after the highway near me but I couldn’t get the landscaping and tunnels to function properly
This looks great

jolly sinew
#

You can make a highway using similar methods

jolly sinew
#

I hate how CS2 handles low-light shots, but nonetheless the Notre Dame looks nice at night

Amazing views from a few of the most expensive high-rise apartments
Also kinda sneak peek of the district I'm working on? 🤔

I get a few questions here and there on how on earth I make the historic city center almost free of cars and keep the parking spaces hidden from the general public, so I'll try my best to explain here.

First, the parking (first pic)
I hide my parking buildings behind the mid-rise buildings so you can't see them from the street level. This means you can use multiple floors of parking space for lots of cars without disturbing the look of the city too much.
The parking lots inside the city centre are also very expensive for reasons I will explain next.

How do I keep cars out of the city centre?
It's actually not that hard. There are some roads with roadside parking, but a lot of them are surprisingly empty compared to all the people walking on the streets.
My simple solution to reduce traffic, is to make parking costs painfully high in the centre. Street parking is currently priced the highest, with the parking buildings also expensive, but slightly lower to encourage people going there instead. The further you go from the centrum the cheaper parking will get, encouraging people again to park outside the city center.

Another layer of annoyance, and efficiency
If you look at the second pic, you can see I have colored some of the larger roads.
The red roads are single direction, in this case there is also an opposite direction possible, but at a distance from each other. This increases the space you can have for a traffic buffer, so that even if it gets busy, not everything locks up straight away.
On the north side (modern district) I used this spacing to make some green walking space for pedestrians, which also reduces road noise.

If for some reason citizens want to drive inside the city centre, I've made it hard as possible to do so by placing lots of single direction roads basically everywhere, this increases drive time by a lot and people will just stay outside of the centrum.
Yes, this actually works pretty well with CS2's traffic AI surprisingly.

The town hall is right outside the station to the right, nearby other landmarks such as the Notre Dame

I do plan on making a ring road and a half-circle highway (going around the modern district and CBD), but it is yet to be fully built
