To make the game challenging the majority of people like the feature it is quite clear
I’d you don’t want to deal with it use unlock all tiles don’t make the game worse for everyone else just because you are bad at the economy
nah fam they did this to make the game harder if u cant keep up its not our problem
Read the dev diary about it and you'll change your mind.
A lot of youtubers agree that is kills the low density areas lol... completly unrealistic how it works and should be redone...
You can remove it yourself by clicking unlock all tiles. I personally love the up keep!!
idk that seems pretty realistic to me, as far as i have known low den areas have almost always been a net negative if they have their own services, thats why rural/suburban areas normally receive aid from urban area
If anyone wants serious discussion consider reading this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/1ds7v77/hot_take_everything_that_tile_upkeep_seeks_to/
yes but less dense areas like farms need to exist to keep a city running, and you can't expect people who live in the city to become farmers because they don't earn enough, you need small settlements dotted around farmland to get the workers for the farms and also industries which are not very dense
this is how it is in most places around the world
if it's filled up with farmland there's not much maintenance to be done by the municipalities, now is there? 🙃 and yet my city has a 100 million monthly deficit simply from tile upkeep, 100 million?? seriously?
oh yea dont get me wrong about that, but it is also the cities responsibilty to balance the income from the core(the urban downtown to the edge of the suburbs) and periphery(suburbs and rural lands). this for example means your your farmland would need to be about the size of if not double the space of a starting town. using my state as an example, Atco, Chesilhurst, and Glassboro are all places that are farmland. however due to the expansion of Rowan University Glassboro has been seeing urbanization, they converted i think like a third of their entire land space for urban development. this one third makes more money then the old farmland.
Another thing is to is a good domestic industrial sector filled with a mix of fields also lowers the cost of the city, instead of spending 110k on imports of pharmaceuticals I produce it in city for a fraction of the price, which leaves more money for the rural/farmland. this is how you use your land to your best use
or to a more extreme, it takes all of the surrounding counties to supply philadelphia in terms of farmland, and in return philadelphia pays for their infrastructure to some extent(trains, busses, canals)
it may not be a perfect replication of the real world but it is definitely better than what we had before
but like I said basically my expense is about 20m a month for services and their upkeep, whereas tile upkeep is like 100m, I am legit spending 5 times as much on just being able to develop settlements on the tiles, as I am on all the infrastructure I've built on them, in what f***ing world does that make any sense?
I have a strong domestic industrial sector my financial disparity is purely down to the ludicrous tile upkeep cost
I'll show you a screenshot later
Yes please because that honestly doesnt make sense, in a non offensive way I'm just genuinely confused by how you're getting pounded by upkeep
ok I actually already used the 529 tiles mod to remove upkeep but I actually was spending 115m a month just on my bike
on your bike?
granted this is a new save so i dont have everything unlocked but this is my income/expenses
sorry my brain was multitasking, 115m a month upkeep on the tiles
I figured but it was 2am and my brain was shutting down lol
You mention 529, were you using the mod to prematurely unlock all tiles?
no
I just did the option to add extra tiles to milestones
I got all the milestones
529 tiles mod does not remove upkeep the unlock all tiles button on load that is part of vanilla gets rid of upkeep
no you can adjust a tile upkeep slider in 529 tiles
Right I don’t use the slider so k forgor
Still the vanilla button might work better for you
But we dont want to unlock all tiles. Just not the stupid upkeep.
