love it
Thanks!

yeah
What vibe you trying to go for? Like SF type city, LA type, Bakersfield Type, or some other California type or something else
Taking inspiration from SF mostly, for the waterfront especially. But I'm also looking at Baltimore, for the waterfront as well. I'm also trying for some LA vibes with the mountains in the background, and the size of the downtown in proportion with the rest of the (future) city
I wanted something a bit like this, in some ways
but obviously the downtown core is pretty much right on the waterfront, unlike LA
I like nice views
Is this hinting at Suburbia
So like LA’s Skyline on the Waterfront
Like how SF’s is
LOVE it
@lapis moat what do you use for video quality
i have everything on max and my game still looks like poo
Did you mean to ping alex
Cuz if not I use a ton of mods
But this is their thread
@patent coral
yea i just press tab cause it used to just auto select the thread owner
idk why discord removed that
I use Render It, Relight, Dynamic Resolution ( boosting to 150-200% resolution), and Theme Mixer 2
My graphic settings are all at max (except for Anti Aliasing, which is disabled). I'm using FXAA anti aliasing in Render It!, and I have it set to Extreme Quality, or maybe one level lower, I don't remember exactly
If you want to have a look at my Relight settings, check my map's workshop page (search for Monterey, you should find it easily), there's a screenshot of it there. Last image
In general tho, a good LUT will do like 75% of the work, a good map theme or theme mix will also improve the look of the game quite drastically, the rest is mostly minor improvements in comparison
Oh and Cubemap Replacer to replace the look of the skybox
ill check it out cause this just looks like trash tbh
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/962563117060075543/1066586149612703845/image.png
Yeah, a good LUT will help a lot
I personally almost always use Relight Neutral. Comes with the Relight mod
I've tried many many different LUTs but I always go back to relight neutral
You can select Relight Neutral from Render It and save it to your profile, but afterwards, the color correction settings I use is done through relight's interface yeah
👍 love it
thank you
super nice
new road

did you use custom road builder for that road
Yes
It's really nice to use but unfortunately I'm having some issues with the roads generated... My FPS is taking a big hit from the IMT fillers and lines, which never really happened before afaik
But going from 38FPS to 29FPS when using just a couple of the roads I've generated
So I'm probably gonna just use workshop roads for now
welp nevermind, couldn't find one that did what I wanted, so back to road builder lol
new tram road once again. I'll probably settle with this one
when I toggle problem notifications on 🥴
Yh IMT is quite heavy recently :(
😔
it's not too bad right now. I lowered the render distance and LOD distance settings in IMT's options and I'm getting around 30-35 FPS with this view, which should be my most detailed area so far
Well all my roads will be IMT
It lags so much with 100 percent speed camera and the cam jumps everywhere
Unplayable without Play It
LOL YES, I was looking for a tram asset with doors on the correct side but couldn't find any that I liked as much as this one so I'm just rolling with it for now 😂
thanks, this one looks quite nice
Little custom tram stop
Blank Roads? Pog, just needs bollards for the Bike Lanes
Also the LUT and theme for Monterey matches it soooooo well
yeah the bike lanes are a bit dangerous lol... I should have added at least a filler between the bike lanes lol
I'll look into adding bollards
nah, use a lane marker and bollards, or like me in some portions of the city I havent started working on in, follow Vancouver and use Traffic Cones
not the bollards I'm gonna use but yeah I think this could look nice
I think this looks quite nice. Thanks for the tip @lapis moat
Quite happy with how these roads turned out, only bummer is IMT having such a big impact on my FPS now. Also gotta find some nicer planters for the palms now
can you give me the link to those palms
those roads just look so nice too
I think the palm trees on the roads are the ones by MrMaison
thanks
New bus + tram roads
sprawl
They were pretty much the only low density houses I had at the time
I'm probably gonna keep those houses to just one or two neighborhoods tho
they're quite colorful...
Replaced two buildings. One of them I felt was a biiiiit too iconic to LA. The other (the orange-ish building) is just to fill a bit more space
U dont have MCM?
what's MCM? 😟
Mid Century Modern CCP
I hadn't started downloading low density assets, probably downloaded like 100 low density residential and commercial a few hours ago 🥴
oh
No I don't
I love Monterey
I have once again changed one of defining buildings of the downtown
I thought the one I chose was too wide and fat. Chose something slimmer. Still has a nice angle on the roof. I think I prefer that

No problem
The ferry building is so iconic for this city
Doing some detailing along the little creek, heavily inspired by the mission creek channel area near Oracle Park
Not sure if I'm gonna keep that either lol, but I'm leaving it there until I work on that area
probably going to work on the waterfront soon
this area looks gentrified as hell

This has already turned into my screenshot dump so I'll keep that going, don't mind me
This channel looks great
Thats whats this for anyway
Also they all look great
Love the bridge and the rather flowing concrete. Highway looks like a river
Thanks!
same map lol, but i change the layout and terrain. yours look pretty nice
nice! Love to see it
You get so much more space just by removing the hills in the starting square 😄
yeah i don't like the middle hill that split off two spaces
it's because I want to find the best location for airport
Same Map as well but I messed around with the terrain and added some hills
it was an old city i abandoned. I switched over to working on Revelstoke which is also an awesome map
Not bad. A bit shorter but it's cute. Should look better on the curves
has a little bell sound when it arrives and departs, that's cute
yes please, I scrolled a bunch of the workshop but couldn't find any as nice as those two I'm using. The pesa fokstrot one isn't even american at all 😄
no right now it's more decorative lmao
I havent experiemented with trams/streetcars yet. would it be realistic for an pittsburgh style city to have one?
Has doors on the left side too so that's cool
they used to have them, imo it wouldn't be unrealistic
isn't that bay of plenty? 😯
Yes it is
I was building on bay of plenty before. Great map
This is the current downtown, not sure if trams will fit well here
building on my Monterey map now tho, doing a california-type city
yeah that reminds me of pittsburgh a lot 😄
mhm i can see. although i'd use Marble Mountain
the layout for some part is a ripoff of pittsburgh
Marble mountain is nice but the original map is imo too different from what $2.20 ended up creating during his marble mountain series 😄
oh!
$2.20 changes his map way too much during his series
it looks nice but it's a bit low detail
Dundee downtown is hard to recreate as he terraformed a lot. Marble Mountain too
yeah absolutely lol. He built on it for what, 2 years+ or something, so I think that's understandable 😄
His style and his taste probably changed a lot in the process
oh yeah, oceania he changed a bunch of stuff right away
1st episode for Oceania i see like an cut where land got extended to the point it was nearly unrecognizable
I was sticking with this one because it has really great details 😄
this one isn't too far behind
well that's my fault
I made a road with boarding on the right side as well but it was a tiny little bit too wide
I think this was the first one I made
so the pesa fokstrot tram would have worked there
thanks for these!
They're loooong but they look nice
What are those trams?
I might look into adding an old-school tram in another area of the city at some point. I know SF still has a couple
yeah I figured they were probably french
Le bourget
oh yeah thanks!
yep yep, found it linked in the description 😄
thank you. Probably a bit too long for my city, but I do see a door on both sides 😳
skyline
Heh. Also a north cali themed city
Have you seen Gaseous Stranger's Pittsburgh on YouTube, very realistic, you should check it out
I really like this, this is a fire build
Beautiful trams but why are there only traffic cone alike props protecting the bike lane
Yes I have seen, in face some of my graphics are from him
Open discord
Monterey updates
dk why but I really like this city
wish there was a yt series on it
It's America, can't be too promising
Anything more would just be denying the citizens the freedom of running over bikers
(But also after looking, those aren't cones, they're proper pillars)
america
Ur city must be full of oil. Your post here is getting infiltrated
Funnier is that Germanys bike gutters dont have any barriers
is there a central station??
I think so
Wheres your city
not yet
not yet, my rail is still just this
i am working on it , you should build one as well
yes maybeeeee
it just looks better when the downtown area has railway network for me
never mind , i forgot you are building america city💀
I might still add a small-ish train station close-ish to the downtown
SF has Salesforce Plaza now, which very well could host California HSR once it starts service
It’s a giant bus terminal now
wth is with america and buses. y'all american cities irl cant even have more than 2kmh at rush hour
why not invest in some metro that isnt crap and trains
Busses are far cheaper than tunneling a new metro tunnel or building train stations and rail
I mean yes that is true but tons of money is wasted on maintaining those damn roads and not investing in alternative forms of transport
many americans are extremely against any form of transit besides cars, don't ask me why because I have no idea
They will do anything to block public transit from being built, take Elon Musk's boring tunnel for example
it's sole purpose, combined with his hyperloop, was to derail California HSR
he has no actual plans to put either into the real world
I mean 203 billion spent on road maintainance is an real hog of tax money wasted
I have once again changed the road. I think this might make a bit more sense
what LUT and render it settings are you running?
So now the door on these trams is on the correct side lol, and the trams keep going straight even when there's a 3rd lane
using Relight Neutral
ah thanks
these might also help @mellow latch
using FXAA anti aliasing in Render It
the Citadis one was a biiit too long. I tried a couple of others but I still preferred the ones I'm using right now 😄
that's the one I tried I think
the one I'm using is like 2.5 cars
i run these citadis trams, their 4 cars which is somewhat short for me
Although I think I'll try it again because I'm kind of not a huge fan of vehicles that use the line colors...
Anyway, wanted to post this lol
nice
that one the teal+yellow livery is nice but I don't think it would fit here. And vehicles using line colors I don't really like 😄
This one?
that's the one I was referring to
yeah but I don't really like the colors 😄
And I don't want the trams to have line colors either 😟
I'm not a fan of having 5 differently colored trams personally, and then I take too long making sure the line color looks good on the tram, and then my line colors themselves look a bit messed up lol
Citadis Dualis
I've probably posted this view many times before but I like it...
Love it 😊

detailing 🥰
my FPS
whats the building you used on the harbours?
Not much work the past few days. Well, actually a lot of work but I scrapped all of it
So here are some pictures of trams
This is the area I worked on today. It's kinda under developed but I guess that's the idea. Not sure if I really like it but it'll do for now at least 😄
Probably gonna work on this next. Will mostly be an area that was redeveloped into a park I think
really liking this, u have any ideas about flooding protection though?
like NYC wants to make parks that work as flood walls?
global warming in cs 🥴
do you have some examples? I'm not really sure what that means concretely 😄
yup, will post in a second
those vanilla highways are bugging me but other than that looks so good
Yeah same. I tried changing them to american highways, and I might still do that, but there are some interchanges that I'd like to keep and they looked much better with the vanilla highway I thought (because they're wider). But yeah I had the exact same thought when I took that screenshot
I don't know if I'll have the patience and motivation to design something like that 😂
But I'll keep it in mind, maybe I'll find something to make that work somewhere
if u have a surface based water front (soil) u could just make small hills
otherwise well ud need custom plazas i guess
yeah
Stunning 🤩🤌🏻
thanks!
What palm tree asset did you use?
Cali Palms are really good quality but I've noticed too many of them can cause some lag
I use them on all my streets with grass medians
I'll keep that in mind, I've been using a lot of them as well
🤣
So lovely 🥰
thanks
Beautiful
thank you
added some buildings. Not sure what to do in this area tho... And if I'm gonna keep that Ferry building, but I like it
I think the ferry building needs to be closer to the water no?
yes if I wanted it to make sense, probably
also for between it and the parking lot to the left I'd say perhaps a small building
perhaps a newer one
I might rework the quays there a little bit
Yeah, I'll probably do something like that
thanks
I designed the waterfront and the quays before there were any buildings so the scale is a bit off 😄
Get jet bridges
reduced the size of the quays or whatever and replaced some of the buildings
reduced the length of the pier warehouses as well. I think it's a bit better proportioned relative the the downtown now
@patent coral no for real get jet bridges and place a cruise ship downsized as a ferry along the building so its boarding :)
Hhhhmmmmmmm maybe
imposter
@fierce ocean no shitpost!!!!
🗿
This was a pain to build... Took me most of the day
but at least it somewhat functions, and I think clearance is okay everywhere...
inspired (copied) by an interchange near downtown LA
Looking good so far mate. I'm also playing on the Monterey map but I think I've taken a totally different direction to you haha
How exactly did you make the quays on the waterfront? I learnt about these "terraforming" quays yesterday that you can draw a wall/fence against, is that how you did this? Or did you just put a terraforming road on the sea floor then draw the wall?
Good to know! I'd be curious to see your city as well some time if you want to share 😄
I made them using dock wall props, and ploppable asphalt surfaces. Takes a lot of patience to align them all properly. Before that tho I just used the basic road to design the layout. Once I had something I liked I went and finished it with the wall props and asphalt surfaces. You could probably use retaining wall networks instead of wall props too, would be much easier.
Also used some terraforming networks to make terraforming between and along the quays a bit easier
Damn does that look delicious
i have a personal jealousy of this city
Probably gonna work on the areas around the highway here because soon because it's looking a bit empty
too expensive so far
nice skyline 👌
thanks!
started building a stadium

I simp for traffic!!!
Beautiful
thanks
cars
people
Ah yes the joys of trying to leave the parking lot at the end of a game
TRANSIT TO THE STADIUM PLEASEE
I have a tram stop in front of it for now
I'll probably reduce the size of the parking lot around the stadium too
😎
I barely even have parking for my stadium compared to y'all
that top part is just it
yeah im still working on the bridges dw
Great work !
The truck
Love how inefficient the exit is with one lane
and 2 going into the Parking lot 🤣
Btw Alex there are broken assets in the US and EU truck container pack. Check the list of broken mods thats a google doc. There are only a few .crp files broken so u would have to remove them by hand from the downloads
Nice fit for the California plaza building 👍
I decided I didn't really like this whole area near the bridge, where the stadium was, so I kinda changed everything there...
Stadium dead
stadium relocated
It's in a better location there imo, at least in terms of transit.
It's at a junction between 3 tram+bus roads, closer to downtown and existing parking garages
Also thanks, I've deleted the crp files causing issues
👍
Can you post an overview please?
Only recent ''overview'' I have would be this. Otherwise I'm gonna post one tomorrow if I don't forget 😄
oops, I meant the image above lol
Very beautiful. I‘m following this post😃
Ya know I only just really took notice of this but I think its part of why I like this city as much as I do - the way you have this Canal or river, whatever it is separate the outer left side of the skyline from the rest, sort of making it its own small skyline, is really cool
Looks amazing, I would love to see a metro or trams in this city, it would give it a more "downtown" look.
I have trams ;)
Public transit network is still very much a WIP
:o
This is amazing
definitely need to see some development on that seaside park
paths going to that statue
have it be a little square with brnches n such
true
Beautiful !! I think that now there is the need also of a seaside leisure district, with maybe a panoramic wheel !
could be an idea for the waterfront towards the right here. I was gonna make a park there anyway
I took your advice
Yes, it seems a great place ! In fact I was thinking at that location, cause I saw that it was empty in the last photos
looks good
Ah yeah, the quays I mentioned basically let you draw an "invisible" quay that automatically places a bunch of ploppable asphalt+ tiles along it so the only bit left is to draw the wall. Only good for flat surfaces though. Here's a workshop link if it's of any interest to you 🙂 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2012295807
I tried to get the big fell / mountain in the background for a visual reference but I've started upriver. I'm planning to build a city centre between this "old town" and the docks area. And it's definitely going to be a traffic nightmare like real English cities. Need to sort the train lines out tho, I've made a bottleneck for the sake of a pretty bridge I think...
those look really nice! Thanks for sharing
Nice! I've thought about starting in that area too, I think that's a pretty good spot to build, even if it's a bit close to the edge. Looking good too
Np, I use quays a lot because I'm lazy haha. Tbh my usual go-to is to just draw them all normally then use node controller to get a 90 corner instead of rounded. I set the node type to custom then drag them all the way over. It does leave a very small gap though if you zoom in. A bit quicker than dragging the nodes over each other in Move It! and adjusting the heights. Some quays you gotta mess with the offsets too much tho so it's better to just do the latter. Your marina looks wicked btw.
then use node controller to get a 90 corner instead of rounded
I do the same thing
I feel like I need to change my username, b/c I keep getting @'d instead of you
😂
It was coincedental, not on purpose, please dont kill me for nearly making your stack
I love how the interchange is nearly as big as your grid so far 😂
american cities moment
oh btw that second highway parallel to the bigger one with a stack interchange is an modified layout of the Bayshore Rte in Tokyo
THE TRAFFIC, CEQA REVIEWS FOR THIS LMAO
Sorry Im backreading
Any detailed waterfront shots?
this is pretty much the only one I have that's recent
I haven't worked on the city for a couple of weeks
👍x1000
Just to ask, how did you make your city so filled with Concrete, like what asset did you use, also what Planters did you use for the trees that break up the massive concrete areas that I circled
Surface Painter, paiting pavement
And Landscaping Blocks I think they're called for the planters
And I'm using palm trees and ultra low-poly trees
Surface Painter? A Mod?
Yeah
and then its called Paiting Pavement within that
You'll see a couple of textures you can paint. Pavement is one of them
Oh its just called Pavement LOL
but I thought Surface Painter was broken, an deprecated
It was recently updated by bloodypenguin
And there was a fixed version of that mod before that
ahhh
@patent coral Did you ever put like a custom park/playground in your city? Cuz I'd like to know what you did to emulate the "Kid-Friendly" Ground, cuz u know how parks have that kid friendly surface
very nice build, my namesake
alex what are some of the buildings you use for your downtown

I like what I've made here but I don't think I'm going to continue working on Monterey. There were some issues where cims would gather and wait forever at inexistent tram stops that I tried to fix for many hours but I wasn't able to. So that kinda made me lose motivation to work on this.
I've always kinda wanted to make more of a european-styled city, but with some american/modern influences too. Something like Frankfurt for example, with some skyscrapers, and looking at road networks (historical and modern) of Europe, train lines and train stations, etc.
I've never really played with more than buses and one or two metro/tram lines before so I think that would be cool.
Would also give me an opportunity to start fresh with mods and assets as well 😄
Monterey
it looks so good
That sucks but its your cities! You do what you feel is best and its gonna come out best anyway
Im doing something really similar except with a Bay Area Suburb.
