I actually just watched the "finale" of "Natal Macabro" go down live and honestly?
I understood enough to be completely enraptured!
Which was really really fun.
The ending was really f*cking good!

I am just happy that my lessons have been paying off apparently, given that I did understand the rapid-fire series of events that marked the end of the spin-off.
I didn't understand every word, but I did understand what the characters were doing and why and that's what's the most important.
It made me really invested in the story and what I was seeing.

(I will probably still rewatch the spin-off with subtitles at some point though, simply because I didn't get everything about the character backstories (and because I missed some parts of the streams).)

I guess the main difference is that after always implies a specific moment in the future and later just means any moment in the future

it's usually "after something" and not just "after," and it's always "later," not "later something"

for example, if you were saying goodbye to a friend, you might say "see you later!" but you would not say "see you after!" the phrase "see you after" just sounds wrong, because it makes you ask, "see you after what????"

another example: say your dad is dropping you off at a party. he could either say "see you later!" like normal, or he could say "see you after the party!" in that case, you aren't asking "after what?" because the answer is "the party." in fact, he could even say "see you after!" because within the context of being dropped off at a party, it is obvious that he means "see you after the party!"

(also, he couldn't say "see you later the party!" because that wouldn't make any sense. "see you later!" is already complete, so adding anything at the end would be confusing.)

I don't know if this makes sense, but let me know if there's any other way I can help ^^
