Do you think they can polished the game?
I think they did as much as they could with the budget , but I just bought it on Nintendo eShop for switch.
Balan Wonderworld actually plays pretty nice. There's a few frame dips once in a while. But nothing game breaking.
Also I was surprised how well the game loads on switch.
I haven’t finished the game myself, but from what I did play of it, I actually found it to be pretty fun and enjoyable too. It wasn’t as nearly as bad as some people were making it out to be. I’d actually say I found what I played of it to be rather good.
Ya, it was a mix of factors I think. A game that is so light hearted and pure , being eventually tied up with negativity and drama too , didn't help things one bit
I feel that in time when the masses further forget the game, it will get a rediscovery era, and people will appreciate it finally
I hope so. And I hope the same for a few other Square Enix games that came out around that time too.
I feel like games like Balan Wonderworld, Forspoken, Star Ocean: The Divine Force, and even Bravely Default II got a lot of unfair complaints. I just feel like a lot of people had some kind of thing against Square Enix at the time, because sure, everyone has their opinions, but I just don’t feel like the sheer amount of heavy criticism that people showed towards those games was fair.
They certainly weren’t perfect games in my opinion either, but I just felt like there was a lot more passion and effort put into those games than people were giving them credit for.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying people aren’t entitled to their opinions. But I just feel like there was more than just genuine opinions going on at the time. It genuinely felt like some people had some kind of grudge against Square Enix at the time, especially with how nasty some of the comments I saw from people at the time were.
I mean, I’m a longtime Star Ocean fan, as an example. I’ve been playing all the Star Ocean games since Star Ocean: The Second Story on PS1. So when I played Star Ocean: The Divine Force, I felt like it was actually an excellent game in that series. It had everything I loved about the series in it, and it excelled in those aspects. I think a lot of people were too quick to judge it by its graphics, which admittedly weren’t quite at the same level as more high profile games. But the game itself was excellent in my opinion.
So yeah, I’m hoping that a lot of games from that era can find newfound love and appreciation in the future. 🙂
Star Ocean getting that Hd2D remake/remaster was huge for Star Ocean , imo.
Games like that sometimes won't exactly have a sole focused Star Ocean fandom that's as massive as FF , but they can work marketing and community outreach to other Sci Fi themed jrpgs , like Xenoblade for example
And even Phantasy Star communities
I'm not fimilar with bravely , but I'm well aware of it definitely.
Forespoken Ive seen trailers for but that's it.
Balan Wonderworld though I'm playing now , and it's definitely got a the makings of a cult following ( if not already ) there's seems to be strong connection with Nights community and Sonic for obvious reasons. Naka and Oshima.
Some games that actually have the goods will eventually be rediscovered in time. There's quite a few examples of games that were originally shunned and rejected by the masses....
But then later picked up and appreciated by people who understood the games better.
