The Elefant ( " elephant " in German ) was a heavy Panzerjager (tank destroyer) used by the German Wehrmacht during World War II. Ninety-one units were built in 1943 under the name Ferdinand , in honor of its designer Ferdinand Porsche , using tank hulls VK 45.01 (P) produced for the Tiger I tank design abandoned in favor of a Henschel design .
In January to April 1944, Ferdinands received modifications and improvements. They were renamed Elefant in May 1944.
was designed and manufactured by the German company Porsche in response to the need for a highly armored and armed assault tank capable of engaging enemy fortifications and other armored vehicles.
It was armed with an 8.8 cm PaK 43/2 anti-tank gun, similar to the one used on the Tiger II tank. This gun had an effective range of up to 3.5 kilometers and was capable of easily penetrating enemy tank armor.
The Elephant tank had a crew of six men, including a commander, gunner, loader, driver, radio operator and combat engineer. Its frontal armor was very thick, up to 200 mm thick, making it highly resistant to enemy fire.
However, despite its impressive armor and firepower, the Elephant tank had some significant disadvantages. Its weight of approximately 70 tons and length of more than 10 meters hindered its mobility and maneuverability in difficult terrain. In addition, it lacked a rotating turret, which meant it had to rotate the entire vehicle for aiming and firing.
The Elephant tank participated in the Battle of Kursk in 1943 and in the defense of Italy in 1944. However, many of the vehicles were damaged or destroyed during the fighting due to their lack of mobility and enemy attacks.Despite its limitations and short combat life, the Elephant/Ferdinand tank remains an interesting example of German tank engineering during World War II. Its impressive armor and firepower reflect Germany's efforts to develop highly effective combat vehicles in that period.

The Nashorn, whose name in German means "rhinoceros", was a Panzerjager (tank destroyer) that was based on the chassis of the Panzer IV tank and was equipped with an 8.8 cm PaK 43 anti-tank gun (improved development of the flack 37 8.8 cm). This gun was extremely powerful and could easily penetrate enemy tank armor at long ranges.
The vehicle had a crew of five men, including a commander, gunner, loader, driver and radio operator. Since the Nashorn was developed as a response to the need for a self-propelled PaK 43 it had 30 mm frontal armor, which provided some protection against enemy artillery and infantry, but was vulnerable to attack from the sides and rear.
The Nashorn entered service in 1943 and was used on several fronts of the war, including the Eastern Front and the Western Front. However, due to its relatively light design and limited armor, the vehicle was best suited for defensive operations and long-range fire support missions.

The ferdinand (and elephant) could not make it up a shallow hill. That’s how fuckin unbalanced it’s weight to power ratio was.
