It's a long article that needs 6mins ⏲️ to read. My English is not very well if possible plz forgive that. 🙏

1️⃣ ||A sad fact, most Chinese are trolls just like 4chan users, or even worse, they don't like to use their brains 🧠 to talk about facts and logic. Cuz the huge social pressure and censorship from everywhere in China. They tend to be extremely malicious when opposed and are prone to outbursts of retribution and hatred among other toxic behaviors. 🤬 ||

Although half of Kards players are from China, it's still a niche game with few people. Several KOLs can lead the whole community's public opinion. For the above-mentioned reasons, KOLs can get lots of fans easily by keeping attacks and spreading slanders to game developers and there is nobody stops them. This is a common phenomenon in China even not in the area of the game.

In the early stages, the Chinese community can be contacted by Xinglin (a Chinese who lived in Iceland and he is one of the 1939 now maybe). He did a lot of things to build the community and deliver messages from 1939. Cuz the KARDS can be played only in English and hard to read the patch notes for many guys at that time. 📰

But nobody's perfect, he is also not a professional community manager, maybe being called a volunteer is better at that time. It's hard to avoid many little contradictions and it outbreak finally. During an official match, communication issues led to a worst-case, and several KOLs were very dissatisfied with this matter. It leads to a breakdown within the community. I'm not sure about the details but 1939 guys can ask the Xinglin about that.

Since then, Xinglin's reputation had a great fall, 📉 and the KOLs got the whole community. Most players prefer to watch videos from KOLs and chat in their groups. Even when the announcement is printed on the player's morning toilet paper rolls 🧻 there're illiterate people out there who just don't bother reading.

2️⃣ The announcement is always not clear enough to read easily. 👀 Something very important to players is not marked conspicuously. Many people don't know they can log in with an old account on mobile. They don't know 1939 will give them compensation after the reserve. ❔ That's a good chance for the troll guy to spread rumors. The announcements are the biggest thing on the main screen but they are not conspicuous in fact (though they are so big) and hold no attraction for normal players. Maybe adding some prizes after reading is a good choice such as 1 pack or 10 golds and making the announcement cover better.

The Frontline Podcast video is so long with minimal meaningful information. Tailoring the conversation to improve efficiency will be helpful to make players understand what you mean and reduce the pay for localization. On June 6th KARDS will be on mobile but which June 6th and when? ❔ No one likes inaccurate unprofessional descriptions, which can make people feel angry and confused. 😥

World of Warships isn't a card game but they have rich experiences with the announcement, patch notes, and version update videos. As the WW2 game, it will be helpful to learn from them in such areas.

Hearthstone stop service in Mainland China for several months there are many card game players. That's a good chance for KARDS. Maybe 1939 is in a bad time but please maintain sharp vigilance on system change. Limited is better than delete and easy to accept you know what I mean. Drinking poison to quench thirst is not a good way to prolong life nobody wants KARDS going die. 💀

3️⃣ Chinese players are very sensitive about their private interests. The Brother In Arms update will pay the compensation but there are no more details and the crate rework will be done in autumn. It makes players confused and afraid about their card collection. 😥 If the compensation is too less they will think the 1939 forced them to spend money. That's so hard to accept nobody likes to be forced.

Supply Shortage, Monsoon Rot, 2nd California, and our old friend Monty are powerful in the mechanism but they are still alive not in the reserve pool. Most of the Chinese players can't understand that. 🤨

Some key cards move into the reserve pool such as Resistance, Research, Alpine, and Feigned Retreat these decks must have a big change or even delete. That's easy and even interesting for some old players but what about the new guys? Some of them spent a lot to get the key cards or use the wildcards and they don't have other decks. 🤬 They will be forced to restart again but the old players can complete the new collection easily. There are also no more details about the new game mode. ❔ Push the national level? Complete the daily mission? This information is so important to players. And that's why some Chinese players are so angry.

4️⃣ Until now, 1939 has no official account in China, which is a huge mistake. 1939 needs to realize that China is a completely different world from the international network. Unless 1939 does that, the Chinese community will always be controlled by trolls and rumors. A clear and accurate detailed announcement is also the most important thing. 📰 It would be great if the big version update merged into a single announcement and release again when the update is coming.

5️⃣ True Random or Pseudo-Random? When it comes to Discard, Destroy, Damage, and matching mechanisms even the cards drawn from the deck players will be very sensitive. 🧐 Most of them have persecutory delusions or have no idea about probability. An article or video about how it works in KARDS will be helpful to these guys.

6️⃣ Though only 2000 players are in the game daily we have an active community. Project KCP is a great start but many players in China didn't see something like that. Some troll KOLs spread rumors about KCP, making a common objection in the Chinese community. They thought KCP is a dog chain with many restraints. 🦮 And the rewards are not attractive enough maybe a KCP card back, more golds and diamonds, the qualification of the test for excellent members is a good choice. Organizing events about KARDS promotional videos are also a good way and much easier compared with joining KCP.

7️⃣ The new UI looks tacky and the mobile version is unsuited with a notch screen. It's a bad experience to use Shop in the game with the new UI. I'm not criticizing but they are problems that need to solve.

8️⃣ We have the anniversary and DLCs on sale at nice prices in old times. They are gone in 2023 without any explanation. The players saw everything and remembered it well. 👀 The mobile version cannot be downloaded in Mainland China it's not a big problem we will solve it in the future right? How about the D-Day card back? These player's D-Day cards back are gone and they will blame the 1939.

9️⃣ Roadmap is a good thing but it works not good in the last two years cuz COVID-19. 😷 If something changed please tell players as soon as possible with an announcement. A small studio always has a productivity problem but there is an advantage. Willing to contact players and have more flexibility than the big company. 1939 does it well in the English world but it's a bit ignore in the Chinese world. An official account in China is very important that's cuz KARDS has so many Chinese players.

Good stuff, will be reading deeper into this after the mobile launch struggles have quietened down a bit more.
Question : "1939 has no official account in China" - what do you mean by that, precisely?

He/she refer to a lack of official account on Weibo Bilibili Tieba and other frequently used social media, an issue I brought up at least 2 times before

IMO, please provide solid evidence for point 1 OR stop discriminating sub-community in KARDS

for point 5, in fact, what player worries, is that since that certain architype of deck is weak against some subset of architype of decks, there may be suspicion that Kards uses this behavior to not randomly match certain players together for their advantage ( i.e. increase play-time of certain player by matching them to bad architype when they are one match from ranking up)

a simple and easy solution is to have players choose deck after matching a player.

(this also encourage players to have multiple decks, which means increase profit for 1939 😂 )

I think it's only a subgroup of gamers from China who are brainless or follow certain bloggers or rumors. Of course, they tend to be disproportionately loud and active, on top of an already larger base of player population overall from China.

The myriad changes and subtle tweaks are not that easy to track and decipher even in English. I wouldn't be surprised if many players who are busy or impatient don't bother reading the announcements any more, regardless of the language barrier.

Most players are the silent majority 🤐 but they will be influenced by these trolls. The trolls are loud and active in every public area about KARDS in China.
When the new players come, trolls always tell them to run away from KARDS.
When the new version comes, they spread rumors to attack 1939.
The bad reviews wave 📉 on Steam is the best proof.

A rational person has no chance to talk unless in a small group cuz that poor guy will be attacked by trolls in a public area. It is not alarmist talk. 😢

Gaijin War Thunder was also review bombed (even outside China). I don't think these player groups want to attack devs by design; they're still just venting frustration, at least from their point of view.

I'm a WT player too. WT gets bombed cuz the developers wanna nerf the economy further and other foolish things did. Worse than deleting 3 victories for 10 golds in KARDS.

In my opinion limited earning golds every day is much better than deleting. 👀

The others what KARDS do is normal as other card games. They can't realize and shout about Hearthstone and Yu-Gi-Oh are better even though some of them are never played before. They always complain and abuse or cyberbully others to release the pressure.

I know that is hard to understand but it's the toxic daily in China.

Eventually players (from any country) who are okay with the changes will stay, those who aren't will leave. Or they might get tired of the same KOLs and give this another try in the future. I think what passes as a ripple there feels like a tidal wave here, especially for a smaller game such as KARDS.

The game is imperfect and even bad in some aspects and it's totally natural for people to discover then and leave because of them, but I am also concerned about the influence of the fans on the community at large. You see KOL - supporters - wider public. I don't want the misleading opinions of these toxic KOLs becomes a mass hysteria that will shoo away good players because of the misinformation and everything that's not about the game itself.

In other news, we are starting to roll out a side-loading APK, especially aimed for Chinese players. It still has some teething troubles, like the payment system might not be perfectly set up yet, so feedback on that front is appreciated. ( Bugs can be sent straight to #mobile_bugreports )
