#How do I sound?

I dont want to sound rude, im not a vocal coach but I do sing, I would say you are off pitch and thats very key in singing as its one of the important things to sound good. I'd firstly say work on your pitch
Hey! Thank you for the feedback. Sure you are not rude.
It could be the issue. I will work on it
That's the kind of thing why I asked here. For some reason I love to sing that way. But until you mentioned that I might be off key/pitchy it didn't come to my mind. Now I hear it! Gosh 🤮 . Can't wait to improve it!
i think the main problems here are your pronunciation and pitch - start by speaking the words, then singing the lyrics how you'd say them! to start off, make each and every word sound super clear. as for pitch, you gotta listen to the song more and get the melody and timing deep into your mind - THEN we'll add in breaths at the right times so that you won't be taking them randomly in the song.
what you need to do is sing every single word like you're saying them out loud - for example: "used to" st 0:39 should sound like you're saying "used to", rather than one long 'you' sound
it's a lot of work you gotta put in, but i truly believe that you can do it! keep going :))
Hiii @violet arrow ! I have seen you in other chats and checked out your websites. You seem like a very talented and smart person.
Yea, I hear now the pitch is wrong. I know the reason and already started practicing it. It is a little weird because I can sing note or even sequence of notes exactly (with little slip offs here and there after hearing it).
Also, know about the pronunciation because sometimes hearing it back + am not native English speaker. I have no idea what I said.
Will improve the breaths too!
The reason is that I focused on vocal range for a very long time and I have built there a very solid foundation. I can sing from ~D2 to ~D6 + whistle notes to ~D7 (on good days) every day I can whistle on A6-B6.
This is why I got used to singing much higher than needed, but I am going to practice every day a lot and hopefully in a few days it can improve dramatically as I believe it is just a mindset change
Thank you very much! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Singing is fun! The "lot of work" is one of the most enjoyable things in my life 😄
hey jojo! ahhh thank you so much! i try :))
i just looked at your sites too - you seem like a smart and an incredibly creative person!
i hear that too; i was actually going to ask you if you were a native speaker because i could hear that in your voice! a lot of people i work with aren't native speakers so vowels in singing don't come to them as naturally
i completely get you! i've been blessed enough to witness incredible results and transformations with clients from all over the world, which is so uplifting
and good on the breaths!
i see - just to clear this up for you, you weren't singing in whistle on those recordings; you were singing quite high up in falsetto with thick vocal folds. the range you have is very impressive though - it would be a wonderful asset to you to develop this range!
if you would like to learn to sing in whistle though (or just learn to sing in general) i can help you with that for sure!
of course, of course! heheh yesss, putting in the work and hearing and feeling the benefits in your voice is so rewarding
Thank you! Right, I have those 2 projects that I am working on day and night: Singing and my search engine (starting business)
oh that is lovely! really cool ui on the site btw, i love the eco-friendly concept around it too
your passion and love for singing clearly shows! i love the commitment you have!
What! So, then I think I don't have whistle register yet. Then I am confused about my ranges.
D2-B3 - speaking voice - must be chest
C4 - D5 - maybe mixed?
E5 - ~D6 - lighter than "mixed" so head voice?
after D6 it is only like the falsetto.
So? If I had developed whistle notes, they would be even higher?
Thank you! I will remember you, I have a plan to fix my pitch accuracy and then will see
one very common misconception in singing is that registers are bound to range - they aren't at all! studies show that people can learn to sing in either chest or head on any note of their range (yes, even crazy high chest). as for mix, there is no one 'mixed voice' - you'll hear me talk about this a lot haha. i like to think of it as a spectrum between chest and head - different blends of these two registers. and as for whistle? whistle is a very grey area, but there is a definite difference between thin head voice and whistle. if you developed notes in your whistle register, some MAY be higher, but you might also find yourself singing notes you can sing already in head in whistle - like the ones you did on that recording
bottom line: with training, you can absolutely achieve the ability to sing in whistle register. with consistent practise, you'll be able to go higher and higher
Oh! This explains why I feel like I have 2 "mixed" registers
they are same ranges but work differently
yes, there are biological factors which may stop you from hitting certain notes as well as others (for now) and there are roadblocks that you'll hit along the way due to the way your muscles currently work, but there are ways to get past these so that you can sing as high as you want
I have trouble hitting only these notes: A3, B3 and C4 if I exclude very high notes or notes under ~D2
of course, of course! if you want to be able to sing this high and know that you're doing it right, you can book a free 15 min consultation with me to get clear with your strengths, weaknesses, current problems, any styles you want to learn to sing better in and clarify long-term goals for your singing. link in bio :))
I will! Just first want to try myself a bit and then will need to plan when to
firstly, 'mixed voice' isn't a register - when you realise how many combinations of 'mix' you can do this will blow your mind! even if you feel like you can do two right now, you'll be able to do any blend you wish
think of it as proportions of chest and head
so for example: say you want a light sound with a little power to it... 80% head, 20% chest
50% head, 50% chest
whatver you want, you can rearrange these proportions
i see, i see! this is a very common problem for guys. are these a problem for you in chest or head?
oh no, take your time! singing is a huge area to navigate and it's so helpful to be able to practise on your own
I would say A3 - C4 are notes when I need to switch: vocal bridge from chest voice
i see, i see - so would you say that your goal is to be able to sing those notes in chest voice with as much power and comfort as you have on lower notes?
Right, firstly I would like to be able to sing them because as for right now, can't smoothly and easily cross them. Many times when I am on D4 and need to go just a little lower without stopping I crack
I guess I don't have them well strengthen as I do not use them that often
I got you! And the thing about going a little lower once you have that note and you go down and crack, that’s another common problem
True… strength is one part of it
It’s good to train your muscles to have and to use adequate breath support; this’ll help you make every note sound great
You’d be surprised by the amount of muscles that people use in singing
A lot of people say that “singing from the diaphragm” helps you to sing, but the diaphragm is a sheet of muscle that moves involuntarily, so that isn’t applicable
If you use the muscles I tell my clients to use to sing well, you’ll feel zero pain in your voice, you’ll feel no discomfort whatsoever, and all of the tension you feel will be directed to those other muscles, leaving your voice free to sing higher and higher
And by pushing back on those muscles, you’ll have the grounding and power to be able to sing EVEN higher
Awesome, I don't know about going even higher 😄 . I think it would be more beneficial to stabilize myself at the vocal range I have.
I will try myself first for a few days, maybe longer, and then for sure would like to book the 15-min call with you!
pronounciation and pitch need a bit of help... and it sounds as if you are trying to immitate mariah but you are meant to sing it in ur own way in ur own comforatble range
Thx. Yes, I have already heard it. Now working on the pitch and will see what can do with pronunciation.
I record those covers while listening to the song on headphones. So, maybe this is why I imitate her and other singers.
As a coach who has worked with people who thought this and didn’t know how high they could go, I know you can do both ;))
Okay cool! I will be waiting for your booking! :))
Tip: when using headphones, use one ear on, one ear off - doesn’t matter which ear, but you’ll be able to hear yourself much better!
Thank you very much. I will try my best
I have already seen this being done by professionals and do it too. Sure, I need to hear myself + the song
No problem!
Ayyyy that’s great - another question for you then: what daw do you use?
I use Logic and there’s a feature that allows me to test out how the effects sound without even having to hit record
The plugins are just there and working and I can hear my mic through my headphones
Don't have MAC... I use just Audacity for now
Idk if it’s a volume thing or a gain thing or what, but it’s great to be able to hear that
Ahhhhh okay! Audacity is the best haha
I do a lot of my voiceovers in Audacity
Audacity is built for a different use, so can’t do that mic thing - wait do you have an audio interface?
May I ask you, do you know any songs or videos where they are singing but on the screen is shown the note they are on. I can hear it pretty well but would like to be sure. So, that I can practice being on key. I have found on YouTube just a small snippets of the songs
I do!
What phone do you have?
Android 😄
Got it! It’s either called Vocal Pitch Monitor or VocalTuner - should be free
No, just a maybe $40 mic and that's it
Right I got it
Going to check it out
If you do have enough money, I’d definitely consider getting a Scarlett interface, but the studio package with the headphones and mic
I use the headphones for everything and they have lasted me a long time
Cool!
Isn't this an app that shows my pitch based on a mic input? I use Nail the Pitch for that for years now. But it can't well detect vocals of a song
Oh I haven’t heard of that one! Got it. What do you mean by this though?
OHHH
So you want it to already know the pitch you should be on?
I don’t know any that are like that but that is actually a really good idea
Thank you for the recommendation. I will check it out and maybe buy it. Sure I have also pretty high-end headphones but no studio equipment
Of course! Since you have a mic and good headphones, maybe just getting the interface would be right for you
I also had both but I use this mic more
*much
Whoops I have to go haha
See you soon!
Yes, I would like to see the note the singer in a song is singing at each point of time, but didn't find anything. It is just for me to be sure I am on pitch and so can practice
See you! Thank you for your interest!
If you can read sheet music I’d recommend going on Musescore online to see the scores there so you can see the right rhythm and pitch you should be singing with the vocals, but otherwise I don’t think there’s a solution for that yet…
Did you code your search engine yourself btw? I just had a thought
Of course! Anytime ☺️
I can't read it yet, but thank you I will do my best
Yes, alone and from scratch (nothing)
Feel free to ask anything
Ahhh that’s okay!
That’s awesome!
I was just thinking how great it would be if there was an app like what we had just described
Karaoke that helps with pitch
I’ve seen things like that before but an accurate pitch review would be awesome
Obviously, there will be fluctuations and the goal is not for you to sound robotic
But yeah! Thought it was an interesting concept :))
I have found ways as listening to myself using headphones real time and know an app Learn to sing, it plays sequence of notes and then I need to repeat it
Ohhhh right! That’s lovely!
