Once you got up higher, that absolutely was your mixed register. Generally, mixed register should make you feel like you have the range of your head voice and power of your chest voice.
Thanks!
To me that felt more like a twangy falsetto. But today I figured out how to get up to an A4 in a more chesty placement.
It was a bit of both. You can hear the switch about 2-3 "ah"'s from the end of the clip, where you go from a yell to a twangy (like you mentioned) shout instead. To just someone casually listening, the sound you accomplished was definitely "mixed", as it was hard to tell where the switch was. But, for you own personal singing, it was a bit of a flip in placement with the actual muscle movements going on. It sounds great! Are you wanting to mix more, or did that feel really good of a transition for you?
I would definitely like to learn how to not flip above G4
What did you do that helped you extend your chesty placement to the A4? Do you have any sound clips of it? @quartz agate
I came up with this exercise
That exercise is great! One thing you can do to make it even more effective is make it even twangier at first (even if it doesn't sound good, this is just to get used to the feeling), and back the volume off. Adding too much force makes you switch earlier which I'm sure you're feeling a little bit. It's strange at first, but less force helps a lot.
Awesome job!
Oh thanks for the advice!
You're very welcome! I was looking through here and killing time while I was holding an event with Marino earlier lol
I also came up with this exercise for breath support
I tried using less force and being more twangy at first and it seemed to turn out better this time!
That was super duper smooth! Great job! As you get a hang of the feeling in your throat with the twang you'll be able to do it without actually sounding twangy, and really let your voice shine!
Super awesome improvement!
