  • Version 3.0 of Dra'Vashai companion 🐱 - Vvardenfell quest commentaries and level up. Latest release build: #1504579540427477122 message

  • Sason and Malexa's Home 🏡 - they get a guar ranch in West Gash, move there after the vanilla quest, and get to speak with you on Redoran faction quest topics.

  • Healer of Seyda Neen 🌟 - visit sick citizens, diagnose their conditions, and provide healing. Status: frozen until I learn how to script magic cast detection on NPC.

  • made a book on all common diseases (took from uesp/vanilla dialogue) 📕
  • made a starting script for quest start topic. It adds the book to Arrille too.
  • implemented Teruise' healing path - both via a spell and a potion. Fixed all bugs 🐟
  • Started implementing Ganciele's dialogue/quest 🗡️

See, I want to keep dungeons untouched to allow compatibility with dungeon overhauls.

On the other hand, I can make wounded people outside dungeons in the wild. I can also do it as part of an overhaul (Addamasartus)

so far, my idea is to keep this mod about urban healing. But some overlap with wilderness could be as well.

I have divided the healing quests to 5 tiers. Every tier is opened when you reach certain character level. Every tier allows you to find 3 or more people to cure in a town.

It'll keep the quests from being overwhelming in number. But will provide continuity - you are expected to return to the town as you advance in levels (up to level 10), to see more Healer content.

If God gives me focus and energy to implement these dozens of quests for Seyda Neen, I may do Pelagiad Healer as Chapter 2 - will be a separate mod.

Here's the last non-broken version of it for safe keeping. Anyone is welcome to playtest and share feedback. There are 8 quests in this overhaul. But only 4 of them are true quests

It could work like this:

  • let's say there is a quest in Seyda Neen which isn't available right away
  • the player does travelling, questing etc. and eventually meets the quest conditions
  • there is now a latest rumor available for Seyda Neen and for some settlements which aren't far away (like Pelagiad or Balmora); you get a journal entry about it and then the rumor disappears
  • the player gets an immersive way to get info about the quest and you don't flood the latest rumors pointlessly (like godawful Vanilla Solstheim stuff)

Good idea. I can add rumors to Pelagiad, Hla Oad and Vivec (not too far?) about particularly sick people in Seyda Neen when the next tier is unlocked

Vivec is sketchy because of its size in this case, so maybe just Foreign Quarter. You can reach it via silt strider, so fine.

I shelved the Seyda Neen Healer mod for a time until I learn to apply restore attribute to an NPC

meanwhile, I got inspiration to expand Dra'Vashai

the idea is, he improves skills via contextual commentary to quests

thanks to Hemaris and the mod author of Fons companion for scripting help

The same mod, but you can make Dra'Vashai your apprentice instead of taking him to OE.

here's a working prototype. He has comments to all Seyda Neen quests (including Tarhiel), and A Man and His Guar quest north of Vivec. He'll grow skills depending on your answers. Once you discuss all 5 quests with him, he will level up and ask for your advice on which attributes to improve

The MVP plan is to cover the guild of mages and at least half of the main quest. Some other misc quests too

As for Vivec, it actually has areas which severely lack content. St. Olms and St. Delyn cantons with no quest mods are very underdeveloped in particular.

yeah, it's just my roadmap. As I won't be able to do every quest for the first update. In fact, I think I'll skip many of them - Dra'Vashai will only be interested in miscs, the main quest and the guilds of Fighters and the Mages. Keeps it simple and will allow me to get ready for mainland sooner

So far, he and Ahnassi will dislike each other. Her questline is too long to be implemented in the first release. Besides, it's practically a TG questline, and I don't intend to do TG commentary other than few general ones.

Dra'Vashai ends up being Lawful Good despite being a Khajiit.

He also has an understandable dislike of Dark Elves and, not so understandable, of Wood Elves. The latter has to do with the 5 Years War and how his family suffered from it. His father is a veteran, crippled by Bosmer poison and his own addiction to narcotics and alcohol.

But I'm afraid that initially Dra'Vashai will look too negative in his quest comments because most quests you encounter in Bitter Coast and Ascadian Isles have to do with Bosmer and Dunmer

btw since this is an apprentice, one thing you could consider is sending him away for some time after he is leveled up enough. He would go back after some time and the player could pick him up at a certain location. This would actually be a good trick to move him to a place where you want as well, e.g. somewhere on the mainland.

I was thinking about this, thanks, it could be interesting. But I found a potential problem - it appears that NPCs when left outside of active cell for more than 3 days reset their stats to default. Meaning, all his leveling could be obliterated if you leave him behind for 3 days

I'm still thinking about how to overcome it. Some companion mods seem to have a workaround. On the other hand, it could be explained story-wise: he is your apprentice and when you stop teaching him, he degrades

Arresting his captor. The dialogue result checks whether he has prisoner's shackles in his inventory and rewards you with money if not. And adds them to his pocket that triggers a disable on cell change

Not very useful IMO as Fatigue regens on its own and it's dialogue, so not combat-related. You could go for a different effect.

BTW NPCs can get diseased on contact with such enemies and they can get their attributes damaged when fighting Greater Bonewalkers etc. Not sure whether it's sth you cover ATM.

thanks for your feedback. The treats feature originally was just for role-play. When I run around these areas with tasty-looking fruits, I have this urge to take and give one to Dra'Vashai. The fatigue/magicka restoration is just a bonus effect. I even scripted replies for him where he randomly refuses the fruit. But the scripting doesn't work (I'm still learning how to use the Random100 global)

Note that attribute changes will affect Fatigue and Magicka both, depending on which one it is.

So if you damage Intelligence, Magicka will be recalculated automatically. If you damage Strength, Fatigue will be recalculated etc.

#

this is why modfatigue and modmagicka may be very unreliable unless you use safeguards

#

you can also add fortify max magicka modifiers as an ability if you need them

#

then Magicka will be recalculated with Intelligence change, but the NPC will benefit from the bonus

#

Fortify Magicka will work, but once Intelligence changes, the NPC will probably lose that bonus unless it's reapplied.

Current Fatigue is flavour only because of natural regen, but for those permament Fatigue modifiers you used before, you can do a quick test:

  • apply the effect (ModFatigue) and make sure by console that Fatigue got changed (getFatigue). It should work.
  • use console to getstrength and then setstrength to a different value than the NPC has
  • check what's fatigue now with getfatigue. If it's all recalculated and the bonus is lost, then it's not permanent.

Hm, the failure ending is the proper ending for The Corpse and teh Skooma Pipe where you give Tsiya her skooma pipe. Dra'Vashai will be disappointed and the new quest won't start

it's one of the first quests where you can significantly wreck his disposition towards you. Currently, it dicreases by 20 points.

the mod already has a feature for when his disposition is below 20, he breaks away from you.

one of the most damaging quests I'm going to script is Rabinnia's Inner Beauty. In the ending where you deliver her to the drug dealers (so they could cut her up), I'm thinking of making Dra'Vashai attack either the player or the dealer.

A question, I noticed that companion mods add a lot of unique location and quest-based greetings. I dislike working with greetings menu personally. And I think that it's cleaner to keep all the location/quest dialogue in corresponding topics. Like here.

What do you think is the best approach?

Greetings are fun, but topics are way more orderly. It's definitely easier not to drown in dialogue records when you split things into many topics. There are many which have few Vanilla records and are rarely touched by mods. Greetings tabs are often overflowing and commonly used topics are little better. Greetings may be useful when you really want to bring the player's attention to sth. Critical stuff.

btw I had a look at this file and it seems that your current approach with topics will make things less cluttered. One thing you may want to look at, though, is add some greetings for high priority Greetings tabs if you want some unique dialogue instead of generic one for some specific situations. Currently you keep things in Greeting 5 which means that the cat would get generic dialogue when the player has a bounty, is diseased, is a vampire etc. It's possible that you simply haven't got around to this yet. Still, you may want to have your own versions for that and the easiest way is to use a high priority Greeting tab (like Greeting 2) for such situations (so neither Vanilla dialogue nor modded dialogue would replace your own with generic stuff), assuming that you pick proppa triggers 🙂

I also want to make unique replies for Bribe, Admire, Taunt. And, if I'll manage to make it work, use vanilla voice lines for specific contexts. Right now, he has chosen voicelines for when he's not following you

You have 300+ dialogue records for the cat already. BTW I only checked this in CS with no in-game testing yet, but if I'm right, then some negative reactions with disposition drops will be easy to avoid by not clicking on the relevant topic. Just sth to consider, but maybe some of them could be moved to greetings. Only the bad ones which I think shouldn't be sth that the player can easily cheese.

Yeah, I'm still thinking about it. Potentially, the player can avoid most disposition drops by simply not discussing quests with him. But then the player robes themself of the content the mod was installed for. In addition to that, Dra'Vashai has micro-disposition drops in Greetings for bad weather (rain) and night. So, it still may go down eventually

Rewards and choices are fine for topics (the player will want to click on that, anyway). For bad stuff sometimes you give -15 or -20 and it's important, so I think it would fit greetings for believability's sake as well. Same content, just moved around in these cases.

One way they do that is by having relationship tiers/statuses and having different dialogues for those. Not having a romance mechanic immediately reduces dialogue probably by 20%-30%
