I think that one of the few remaining cool kinda Daggerfall-esque features is non-permanent artifacts. However, instead of doing it like Daggerfall (durability-based), I would go full lore mode and embrace wandering-artifacts/artifacts-with-a-mind-of-their-own thing. In pretty much all cases the lore mentions artifacts abandoning their owners (like when they get too powerful). I don't have any specific system in mind yet, but maybe a sort of alignment system could work and the stronger your character is and the more artifacts you have, the harder it is to control them.

the alignment system could make the shift gradual. Maybe at first it would be a sort of curse. Artifact is pissed off at you. Maybe you could also empower it via making some additional offering at the shrines (this would lead to more potential interactions). Maybe there could be some things you could do to slow down the alignment drop.

if the artifact disappeared and was randomly given to someone in the world, one way of using statues again would be to make it possible to get the location via an offering if you don't want to just randomly stumble upon it (which could take forever)

Some artifacts could change too, you lose one and the oblivion version appears somewhere else.

It would be neat to do it something like Artifact Hunter or that one that leaves maps around to find, so some artifacts could have choice of how to approach. As a scholar, worshipper or as a champion

I am essentially just thinking of ways to use a variety of methods to hunt for an artifact. Not so much the "collectathon" vibe as is often what those mods are about
