The spacegoat could be a really neat mechanic, to balance the tremendous amount of leniency you can get in trial

the mod's "core" is already functional

#

the author literally said that they missed the option from DF, so the mod is pretty much DF-inspired

#

Has anyone made a mod that has an overlay preview of where an object will be placed? With the magic being dehardcoded we could do aoe/dot spells on surfaces. Thinking like a preview of the affected area before casting and then creating poison, ice, fire, acid covered surfaces like in bg3 and similar games. Maybe miasma fogs that drain the attributes of people inside it

autumn girder
vital cypress
#

Awesome! Any interest in making some aoe/dot spells like described above?

#

Could be fun to aggro a mob and pull them into your gauntlet of spell effects

#

Maybe they get triggered by proximity or stepping on a sigil

#

Imagine placing a sigil that, when triggered, damages speed on the floor of a hallway and a sigil that applies poison on the ceiling above. Two clouds, one slowing them down and one poisoning them

autumn girder
#

But I’m not sure if people are keen about having their mouse inputs overridden too often haha

Could make for some really fun retreating while watching the chaos you unleash on a mob of enemies

The image that comes to mind is goldeneye 64's proximity mines, but a proximity mine that unleashes whatever effect you want and persists for some duration of time

Started to work on this mod idea. Not sure how dumb it is, but it's definitely nitpicky/pedantic. Here's the pitch:

This mod adds paced journal updates to xx vanilla quests, matching the standards of later expansions and landmass mods.

Morrowind has come a long way. The original 2002 release had no quest tracking, and the Journal worked as an actual journal, not a quest menu, where players were expected to take their own notes. Tribunal (released only a few months later) streamlined this process by adding sortable entries, and set a new standard for quest design.

However most Vvardenfell quests still reflect the original approach, where Journal entries are sparse and progression stages kept somewhat unclear. Nowadays, dopamine-hitting Journal updates have become the standard, and landmass mods (or quest mods) have spoiled us with them. Yet we tend to forget these weren’t part of the base experience.

This is an attempt at bridging the gap between old and new conventions, by sprinkling well-paced journal notifications into more than xx vanilla quests.

# misty geyser a piece of paper and a pencil 😎

never found that immersive in games btw. I don't like using tools not provided by the game itself. I know that some people like it, though. That old school feeling when guides in gaming magazines were popular and such.

misty geyser
#

yeah back when manuals always had a "notes" section i rarely used it. but it was expected in some games. i couldnt have beaten the Myst games without extensive notes

long marlin
#

Only game I enjoyed taking notes for was Fez, because that was less a game and more a puzzle on a computer.

#

I'm with you on "Keep the player immersed, every time they have to reference something away from the game breaks flow state."

#

My big criticism of Tamriel Rebuilt etc is that there's a lot of stuff you kinda have to wiki to get on with. Not just locations, but fiddly stuff like "This random piece of an armour set I've got is cool, where am I likely to find more? Wait, it's literally nowhere other than random level lists?"

#

Here's a cool mod idea:

Tinker, Tailor, Armourer, Weaponsmith

Hire vendors of clutter, clothing, armour, and weapons to create stuff for you. Want the single pauldron you're missing from a set of armour? Scroll through a menu to find it, order it, pay a fee (and provide materials for rare stuff), then wait a few days and come pick it up.

As a bonus, you can pay extra gold or resources to increase the enchanting capacity of items. Want to enchant a set of common robes to match exquisite robes? Pay a tailor to make them. I know this can be done because the disenchanting mod messes with enchant capacity on disenchanted items.

Mod Idea: Actors love you more when you cast heal or cure spells on them 🪄

ember parrot
#

only if they lost health already. brilliant idea ngl

long marlin
# dim pewter Mod Idea: Actors love you more when you cast heal or cure spells on them 🪄

I would genuinely love a mod that lets you play a healer as a profession. Like, travel around discovering small quests to heal people, have to do differential diagnoses for conditions that can't be trivially magicked away, eventual ability to set up a clinic somewhere and have people come to you, triaging patients, arranging for nurses and apprentice healers, dealing with the Mage's Guild and the Tribunal Temple worrying about you being on their turf...

dim pewter
#

me too, good idea

long marlin
#

You could even have fun with advanced stuff like "This isn't an illness, this is definitely a curse, I either need to find someone who can break it and convince them or I need to figure out how to do it myself."

dim pewter
#

the game has tons of unused medical lore. Like, dozens of disiease names

long marlin
#

Right!

dim pewter
#

restore attributes too

long marlin
#

Take the diseases and make variants of them that can't be magicked away with just the basic spells, then have differential diagnosis to identify special alchemical ingredients to administer to the patient before casting. Crucially, have the ability to fuck it up.

#

Also include patients who are actually fine but faking it for whatever reason. Prisoners who want to break out. Old people just wanting company. Hypochondriacs with mental health issues. Have the option to dismiss them or actually do a little care in the community.

#

The end of the quest has you set up with a clinic that's running smoothly without you doing the day to day. Maybe add recurring random content if it wouldn't be a huge pain to implement.

#

I think you could scope this to be satisfying in stages tbh.

ember parrot

I think I've become obsessed with bringing vanilla Morrowind to PTR standards. I'm starting to think of adding basic bounty quests to Vvardenfell 😭

# long marlin Also include patients who are actually _fine_ but faking it for whatever reason....

Personally, I lean more into less complex gameplay:

you enter a settlement and ask a quest topic people who need healing. You will be given leads to local NPCs who will have an illness quest.

When you talk to such NPC, the dialogue will describe certain symptoms. With enough Restoration, you will get a dialogue result with the right diagnosis. The next step is simply giving the NPC a potion or casting a cure spell.

With damaged attributes, you'll have to guess the right spell/potion going by the person's description. For example, "I feel like my arms became unnaturally weaker." - cast Restore Strength.

The mod can be done in modules - Seyda Neen Healer, Pelagiad Healer, etc. Every mod adds a dozen or so illness quests to local NPCs. Most quests become unlocked when you reach a certain character level, growing in difficulty and reward, and motivating you to revisit at a later stage in game. Some will give no material reward because the ill person is poor but might bring Reputation.

My dream TES3 inventory system mod mockup

This is something I would've loved A LOT

river timber
#

Its a mix of Might and Magic 6 and WoW

You have base backpack and can wear also up to 4 bags of varied capacity you can find in the world
Items take up space, you can rotate them etc. to manage and fit things

Keys/probes are placed into separate menu so you can have em as much as you want

Things you wear on you are not in the inventory so it takes no space

fickle crown
#

Basically, carry capacity and limited slots/grid-based system. Not either or. Both!

misty geyser
#

yeah that would be so good. i assume its possible with current tech based on what others are making. i guess first step is setting everything to a grid, mostly would work by type but misc items would need some special attention

river timber
#

Version 2

You can also have belts. Line in beta-version of Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, where belts were used for artifacts and ammo for reload

There on belt will be items you can use by hotkey and only these items you could use in-combat.
Quality of the belt determine the number of slots
Common 4-5, Expensive 6-7, Extravagant 8, exquisite 10

#

Also maybe same as keyring, you could get separate "herbalism bag" which also works as keyring/magic menus

river timber
#

Version 3. Added kind of like WoW-like money system because why not

So in my opinion like this:
Interface will be more reusable and less cluttered
You can still have reasonable amount of common usage items like probes, lockpicks, ingredients and they all be in much more readable menus
But it'll prevent you from hoarding lots of jank, leave every killed bandit naked taking all his clothes and armor for resell at once
As well as it'll make much more clear what items you have in general.

Belts will be something more than just another enchanted item slot and will have practical use. Will prevent you from using 9000 potions while in combat, adding to tactical desidions

Obv. skooma could do a whole lot that IRL drugs don't, but this feels like a pretty surface-level depiction of what a hallucinogenic trip feels like. Like Disney-style pink elephants, or scaremongering about weed from the 60s. Most hallucinogens don't produce lifelike hallucinations that make you see things that outright aren't there.

The hist sap quest in Oblivion is a pretty cool drug trip quest imo. It fucks with the player rather than the character, if that makes sense. I'd suggest screwing with the UI and controls to some extent. If it's possible, a really cool thing would be to play familiar sounds (NPC greetings and whatnot) as though there was an entity behind the player, only for there to not be anything there when they turn.

#

On the understanding of what vampires are that's generally accepted by scholars in the Elder Scrolls, he can't be the son of a vampire. If vampires are actually way weirder and more existentially disturbing than they're willing to countenance because it questions the heterodoxy of the Aedra, then yes, there's nothing prohibiting it.

#

It basically comes down to "What is undeath? How do different undead differ? What are vampires within this understanding?" If the face value lore of death holds, he can't be a vampire's child. But the fact that vampirism is curable is a glaring contradiction in the lore, suggesting that some of the weirder stuff said by Mannimarco and other fringe occultists about life and death holds some truth, and all the stuff about Arkay and life and death is not absolute and not as final as the worshippers of the Aedra want it to be, throwing some real questions on the nature of reality as understood by them.

#

I think it's probably more likely that it wasn't a lore oversight for the simple reason that the implications of it being true do a lot to substantiate how the Ideal Masters exist and what they can do.

vernal dome
#

Tes implies that the general knowledge of vampires is more superstition than fact.

The bloodlines probably come from different sources, bal vampires (lamae and volkihar) have different characteristics to the implied vaermina vampires of vvardenfell. Then there's ash vampires.

#

Also the grey prince may have been a miracle

#

Now that I think about it there's a lot of similarities between vampirism and corpus.

Both have a divine source, both spread by disease, both mutate the body, both are seen as inherently evil, both enhance the attributes of the one who contracts it.

anyone who makes a game where modern tech masquerades as older tech is morally obligated to have a moment in the climactic battle where the game drops the façade and has the final boss and/or the protagonist do something that requires the modern tech

long marlin
#

Games where the ultimate threat breaks well established game rules are excellent. I believe Tears of the Kingdom does it excellently by having the final boss ||regenerate health in a phase change, and the bar that's usually nicely centred and fills in from the left starts at what looks like a reasonable amount and then goes offscreen on the right||.

Similarly, the decision to have the game fiction in Morrowind acknowledge potion spam as a unique player ability is inspired.

There would be a calculation based on your weapon skill, personality and speechcraft. The AI would give a quip, then you would get a choice of three out of let's say 100 each with a different weight. Then the calculation of the above factors would determine whether you hit, and whether it does bonus damage.

Throwing the Affairs of Wizards at a Telvanni when you're higher rank than them calms them but lowers disposition.

# fervent frost It's like the sixth house imo. You shouldn't be able to join it because they are...

I think it could work but it should be an exercise in asking the player "Are you really sure you understand what you're doing? How about now?"

If I was writing it, I'd have a slave manor quest where the player is introduced to a friendly, lovable Khajiit slave who genuinely does their best to be a good servant and who is actively helpful to the player. Further down the line, the Khajiit makes a harmless mistake and is punished, and the player loses disposition with the house if they try to argue for mercy. Further on, the slave then tries to escape, and the player is sent to bring them back to face 'justice.'

Off-ramp: help the slave escape, burning down membership with House Dres to do it, and getting the chance to join another house (say Hlaalu or Redoran) to ensure said freed slave will be protected from reprisal.

If the player brings them back? Any reluctance to punish them earlier is met with a command to beat the slave down with bare fists before their real punishment.

Off-ramp: refuse, as above but ten times harder.

If the player goes along with that, the unconscious slave is taken away. A short while later, the player is rewarded for a light, nice, wholesome quest that shows the 'good' of House Dres. They're rewarded with a nice rug, and callously told of the horrors inflicted on the poor Khajiit to deter other runaways before they were skinned. For added points, the gifter has no idea who the Khajiit was and had no involvement in the prior quests, but the player knows.

Final off-ramp: these people are monsters, free the slaves and burn the plantation or lose your soul.

#

Like that level of personal stakes, in your face, you-cannot-say-you-weren't-warned.
