#Looking for artist for an asset generator
1 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
what ever would be most comfortable to the artist that could use a generator
Hm, well, character maker's are common to do. I have prepped base bodies to build on (for some games I am making + A free asset pack with portraits).
But any other generators, like interior objects are also easy for me (I do these a lot).
Sort of why I ask. A reference to what would be the most desired will let me know what I can offer, if I can at all ๐ค
Probably a character generator
Ok, any pixel size that's preferable?
Also, don't feel bad if you wanna go with someone else.
I have never made a generator myself. Maybe someone with more experience could peep in here instead.
hmm a lower pixel size prob under 256 or under 128 we can scale it in engine
i'll send you the weapon builder project so you can see how and whats used
I'll check it out. Very nice of you haha.
These are the bases I was working on, roughly 40 (lowest) to 60 (highest), then the next one is a different style, sizes vary between 30 to 50 as well.
the type is more for rpgmaker top-down characters rather than a action-pack game.
in an asset generator most things should line up with other parts, but we can add special rules for some that wont, and add adjustment features like in creature-mixer
You mean, something like height should be standardized?
If so, that would be easier to do (for me
).
Yes each image of a type would have a set size, that way they keep relative location to the main parent
Or like in the gun/sprite sheet builder, they're all the same size
And layered on top of each other
Basically you would make different hairstyles in separate layers and export them
Maintaining the full size of the main image
Oh yes.
I'd figure the dimensions of the image remains the same, always. as in, if the whole* sprite is 64x64, keep all the parts also 64x64, or so that is what I assume.
I guess, like the hair piece would be 64x64 even if it only takes up 20x20, is that correct?
I can see that. It would keep all the sprites origin the same.
but we can also do offsets like the weapon and shield in this https://entropy404.itch.io/character-builder
that one uses separate sized images for the parts so kinda the opposite of the other type
That one has a lot of variety. It is one image (well, I mean it doesn't have any walk, run, idle anims) though, but really nice.
i think we could try for an animation in engine like this one https://0x72.itch.io/pixeldudesmaker
but i'm not an artist, so not sure about the walk cycle part
I do have idle + walk already animated for that medium bald character.
The only thing is just adding to the base. Stuff like hair and clothes. Usual things.
But I mentioned, it is mostly like rpg maker but my style is very human and casual ๐
I can't imagine people be interested to be fair (in my style*)
Never done fantasy (i suppose like what you linked, or from rouguelike games)
This what I mean by casual.
I can't imagine these kids outside of some sort of obscure romance rpg maker story.
ah, i do remember, i made a goblin once.
This was hard to make I remember. Something about the tiny pixels.
i like em, i think they would work in a undertale type game
like that first character would be split into eyes, ears, hair ,tail , shoes?
Probably will standardize these more for a character builder.
These sprites where made for a game, so I didn't follow any rules on them.
the body and pants would be split but you could just colorize those
But yeah. I'd wager: ears, eyes (maybe, I have eye types saved), hair, tails, shoes, top, and bottom (I would probably keep these to a couple of varieties, stuff like shirts vs hoodies and shorts vs pants. The colorize like you mentioned).
I also have face shapes, but well, that is alot of fancy stuff.
yeah that would work as long it doesn't change the width of the ears position because both ears are in one image or split it them up and use image points on the frames for positioning
I see, more than likely for simplicity I'll just keep things more standard. Little steps ๐
Just curious, how many varieties would be the general goal?
you would only need a few to make alot like 3 to 5
Ok ๐
I got a base walk and idle cycle going
Though, the base isn't a perfect 16 width box either. I think the max* width for this base is 21px. Probably not what will be final (hair, ears, or tail might make this not a standard 21)
Anyways, is it preferable to update you little by little or all at once?
And is it fine here or dms?
i like seeing updates on stuff but whatever you are comfortable with same for the dm or here
I think bottom middle one has kinda weird leg position for walking animation, other ones look good
Instead of two frames, I suggest three frames
Here's a pose reference I use
[ also sorry for feedback you didn't ask for ] :<
It's alright. I specifically use two frames for these for simplicity. Three fames add a lot more work into it, which I avoid.
Oh, I know you mentioned the middle bottom part.
I actually really liked that one ๐ฅฒ .
Sorry, but to me it looks like he is switching legs from on on front, and then that one front is little bit in back.
I think it should be like:
- Left leg in back [Right in front]
- Standing with parallel legs
- Right leg in back [Left in front]
No hate just feedback :]
But basically art by itself looks cool
I'll think about it since I was messing with the walk cycles for a long time and two frames is my preferred.
๐
But you should probably not tell me twice what you think it should be when I didn't ask for feedback, initially.
Not that is was bad feedback to be honest, I was reviewing it and I tested three frames.
It did look better.
But just saying as a heads up, it can appear to be demanding and rude.
I said it twice because English is my first language and then later I am like "wait ik how can I word what I mean better" ๐
And I am so sorry for unasked feedback
It's alright, like I said, good advice. Just be wary not every will take it super well ๐
I went back to revisit and added a couple more frames.
Still need some tweaking since I actually went and added transition frames to replace standing frames (I wasn't satisfied with how they looked).
I did like my original piece but it is better like this even though it is a lot more frames to think about.
He sort of looks like he's walking backwards. Gonna be tweaking this for..a while.
I mean if you put parallax grads moving it would look like he walks correctly, it's all about context.
To me it looks fine
Have fun! :)
haha, probably. I have been staring at it for a long time.
Don't overthink it! Go take a walk and come back, and see if anything needs to be fixed, fix if. I think it is pretty much fine ๐
i'm making a generator based on lpc revised https://lpc-character-generator.netlify.app/
12,626 Files
Woah, that looks pretty complex.
Did you find someone else or is this what you'd like me to do, something similar?
i was just making this on the side
It's pretty impressive. What type of free time do you have to process 12k files ๐
Actually don't worry, I have no excuse myself.
I never have free time but I have enough to be here.
lol forgot the download button (can right click and save ) but still
would like to try zipping animation some how
I'll use it as reference, the builder you set up. It's really nice and detailed. Although I can't torture myself, nor you, with 12k files ๐
yeah use it as another reference but we will prob use gdevelop for the generator
Thank you for your hard work.
I tried to make it on gdevelop at first but it did not like that many files lol
