are mods only available when connected to the internet?

- unsub to all mods on modio site and delete account
- launch game with -disablemodding in launch options
- exit to desktop and delete -disablemodding from launch options
- go to "C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local delete modio folder
- go to "C:\Users\Public" delete modio folder
- (Check "C:\ProgramData" and see if there's a modio folder, if there is - then delete it)
- launch the game

My issue was, that since I thought my "Install Mods" didn't do anything I opened up my browser and created a mod.io account, and then linked that to Steam... but apparently it wasn't the correct way

Well, that is something that both myself and another tried to do with M1K today and that was the result.
i remember hearing somewhere that all verified mods have been reviewed by the devs in one way or another, is this accurate?
There are exceptions if they only modify certain files. Aside from that all verified and approved mods need to be manually reviewed.

i do subscribe to the mods, but the game just don't download them, even when i try to join a modded game it says that my game have the "disablemodding" parameter or "steam/mod.io is down"

The devs should definitely look into solving that issue fast. Maybe they could implement something along the lines of "As long as the files modified don't change, the approval status won't change"
There could also be some files hand picked that automatically change the approval rating to pending approval. Idk if that would be possible since everything is zipped though...

Also, Drills/Grappling Hook "rework" is more or less "spice the builds up" type of affair. It's not a secret that both of these have only 1 correct build with minor deviations, specifically for Drills.

The only thing that I know of that completely bricks your game is viewing the credits for the game. Once you do, you are screwed and have to alt F4 or close the application.

If you install CVO and join a lobby that doesn't have it, the mod will be automatically disabled before you join and in the process of that your mods and OCs may be mixed up or unassigned

also, as good as karl was, not very easy to sift through mods and such. really nice and easy to group and look through mods you might want. then, click of a button and it's in ur game. all you gotta do is launch and apply the mods

as much as i get the need to make mods that are awaiting verification sandbox by default, having mods that affect no one but the client treated the same is kind of silly
and they seem to already have a system in place to determine client side and p2p mods because players joining are only required to download p2p mods and not client side mods, so i think it would be easy to implement as well

I joined as client. I got no installation prompts but I do have upgraded doretta and some swarm increase mods already downloaded from previous lobbies. This person was not a friend of mine. The lobby had !!Modded!! in the game server name but it was not marked as using approved mods. i also did not have the checkbox for looking for approved mod lobbies checked

No exp, resources, or gold after the mission is just using a sandbox save
when you "charm" a bug, it gets a "shimmer" added to the skin to spot it better. Anyone knows if that can be modded, as in, change the effect? My vision is not too great, and I keep shooting other people charmed bugs A LOT

Just a reminder for why many audio and cosmetic mods are still not verified:
Cosmetic and Audio mods shouldn't be setting "Aimed for Verified"** you leave it blank.** They are auto file reviewed to make sure it only changes appropriate files. That's why they aren't already verified. My hidden sound mods for testing are verified immediately when I upload them. From the guide:

How do mods that are "missed" get handled?
For example, mod 1 and 2. Mod 1 is requesting approved and uploaded on day 1. Mod 2 is also requesting approved and uploaded on day 2. Day 3 arrives and mod 2 gets its request while mod 1 is stuck pending for a week. Are the mods being skipped for some reason?

there's a bug where it sticks until a game restart but I haven't heard of it persisting even beyond that
so I should "disable" it then full restart my game?

yeah, turn it off, then close the game and relaunch it
hopefully they fix it later. it's not the mod's fault AFAIK, it's the game failing to reset those files

So, my friend invited me to a lobby with mods, they installed and we played with them. Which was fine and dandy, but now I want to play just vanilla DRG and every server I go to is like only a modded server. I can only like play modded DRG and I want to go back to vanilla someone pls help
yeah, your friend was hosting a sandbox server, just swap back to the non-sandbox save
progress isn't tracked so if you want to keep your progression in a normal save, play only with verified and approved mods 😂

I made a mod a while back that was melee "class" oriented. It gave a speed boost on melee hit.
It edited other stats and removed other weapons.
Never released it though since someone else made something similar around the same time.

So I think you could either increase the particle size a bit, and maybe the lifetime of some death effects. Maybe add more particles, though that may impact performance significantly.

It's not better. It's different.
If it was linearly better then they wouldn't be making changes that invalidate vanilla play styles
And yes, it's pretty much impossible to make sweeping balance changes without doing that, which is why the devs don't just do what the mod is doing themselves

I saw the patch notes for the T5 EPC mod change to cold damage instead of heat damage and I just don't understand that
You could say it only changes it so you use it with the flamer instead but the playstyle is otherwise the same. Even so, my point is it's quantifiably different in a way that would leave some people out if such a change was implemented vanilla
t. shok deals 200 damage while regular HH shot deals 120 vs frozen targets. Plasma burn could save you 3 EPC ammo t the cost of having to freeze->unfreeze the target 2 times, spending much more cryo's fuel instead
Cold version no longer fucks up the cryo interaction while getting usefull t-shok combo with flamer
I use a build in vanilla with Energy Rerouting that takes T1 damage, T3 charge efficiency, and Plasma Burn which I combo with Snowball. I use the normal shots to clean up groups of frozen distant grunts, one shotting grunts and slashers and two shotting guards without having to take the Heavy Hitter ammo penalty. For larger frozen enemies, rather than refreezing them I use axes, charge shots, and drills and then finish them with temp shock (or just let the team handle them)
All of it could be done with TCF-HH build and damage drills
This is in fact one of my favorite builds because I designed it originally, but it's quantifiably invalidated by the change because the flamer has no equivalent to snowball

it's not me but the concept of breakpoints. Lower hazard allows you to use worse versions of builds with no consquences

What is a breakpoint
It's a thing veterans learn instead of social skills
a minimum amount of damage requeird in order to oneshot/oneclip a target. The most valuble (and common) breakpoint are: grunt (108), swarmer (14.4=15), mactera (267.6=268) and praetorian (1115 in case of haz5 4 players)

I have always despised the concept of superior builds
because in my mind, the perfect RPG videogame has each to be equally viable

but I have a strong aversion to any videogame upgrade being inferior
at least should try to achive but current vanilla allows you to abuse stuff likee TCF and m1000 with AB in tier 2.
I usually avoid higher difficulties in games like this because I consider them to break the game more than improve it
You seem to be the opposite, which is interesting
it's because devs (including GSG themselfes) don't give a shit what happens at higher difficulties because the majority of playerbase are haz3/haz4 people
I would say it's because balancing a difficulty as high as haz5 is impossible
It's the same reason competitive games always end up with dominantly used weapons or characters
possible if you actually tried
Issue is, lower difficulties simply aren't as engaging when you're familiar with basic gameplay and have most upgrades. That's been my experience at least anyway.

I'm not asking that aggressively, I'm genuinely interested
we've spend 4 months doing most of our mod, testing stuff and thinking what could fit the weapons on almmost everyday basis
none sadly. Oh well, Dead Cells at least tryed to patch some stuff few months ago, now it much more bearable to play at top difficulty (but to make it clear, the highest difficulty here is intended to be eventually finised thought only 5% of players actually did this at least once)
I knew a guy who single-handedly influenced dev decisions to rebalance a game's multiplayer for an absolutely miniscule comp scene

it's much harder to balance PvP due to skill level, but in PvE it can be done because you play vs bots, not players
It might even be easier to balance PvP because of the concept of metas and players being roughly equal
As in, every player has the same health and you only have one breakpoint to worry about
assuming they do
in PvP you have a situation when stuff X is OP at high skill level, but is trash in hands of noobs/casuals. In such scenario, it's imposible to please both high/low skill playerbase
in case of PvE you have a pyramid of strength: any top-tier build will work at lower difficulty, but low-tier builds eventually lose their appeal once the game is hard enough

the highest vanilla difficulty is haz5 (5.5 in EDD), so in my opinion haz5 must be a baseline

In a way though the only people who can possibly make something like haz6 balanced are the same people running it
I wouldn't hold GSG in contempt for failing to do that
it could be a point if we didn't try to help them with balance back in u33-u34, but instead of brining the balance it made everything even worse then before. Some of our points were listened to, but there was too much steps back
They don't have that intuition that you do on how to balance it because they don't play at the highest level
after spending some much time doing balance and design decisions myself i'm confident that they didn'y even tryed to do it, just a bunch of changes for the sake of changes

Maybe they're not balancing for you. Maybe they think the 98% of players who play the game are more important than the 2% who are pushing it to its limit. I entirely support what you're doing and I will still keep my eye on the mod because I love this game and there are a few good ideas here and there. Just don't lie about it. CVO is better--for you, for the people who play like you. It is not a better version of the game and it never will be no matter how many hours and play tests you throw at it.
regarding haz4 stuff: i didn't mean "haha, look at this noob", i wanted to say that some build combinations stop working at higher hazards due to spike of enemies count/hp increase
it's much easier to please somebody who doesn't understand game mechanis and how they interact with each other. It's simply much more cheaper in terms of manpower to balance around lower difficulty cause the borders of "well, we suddenly broke this weapon" are much wider
I use the build I described in every hazard level I play including the higher ones. It still works, in fact if anything it feels better because it's fun to freeze larger numbers of enemies all at once with Snowball
i'm fully aware of this and this is the reason why i'm no longer expecting GSG to give us attention
i have no issues with snowball, it's actually one of the strongest cryo builds, i have issues with plasma burn combo
I agree that lesser skilled players are easier to please with balance but at the same time you still have to account for them if you're balancing the vanilla game. You said it yourself that the mod is designed for people who both know how to and want to use their builds to their fullest capacity. That is a small subset of this community.

any radical changes will damage the community (even mod support did it to some extent), but sometimes there're two options as a dev: keep pushing the way you did and hope for the best or try out something different
Dead cells is a good example once again: back in winter they radically changed one of the core mechanics of the highest difficulty, what caused a big amount of frustration in everyone who didn't want to speed up their pace. Retroactively, i think this change made the game better overall for everyone due to solving a lot of issues persisting in the game for years.
But I promise some people were turned away by that change and never came back

I'm glad it worked out in the end, but you can't just make changes for changes sake when the entire community will be subjected to the results

ok, so apparently i installed and uninstalled a sandbox mod that i didnt even play in and now im stuck in sandbox mode, i dont think my save file should be labbled as sandbox when i dont even have any sandbox mods, all my mods are verified! is there any way to solve this without losing all my progress?

CVO main dev here. We're not trying to play holier-than-thou; what MeatMorning tried to convey is that there are 2 different mentalities when it comes to playing the game. Actually, make that games. This applies to Vermintide as well, I'm a veteran there and I'm aware of exactly the same disconnect between two parts of the community.

People who share this mentality are not really inclined to learn the ins and outs of the game mechanics, which will by default make them less knowledgeable about the game. Why care about refined tech, when you can just have fun with a build you either theorycrafted yourself or copied from someone else? People like that are content with what default balancing and difficulty offer; all the power to them, both DRG and Vermintide are not that bad when it comes to balancing on the surface level. I respect those who prefer vanilla but I can't play it anymore after digging into the depths and mathing out the best builds.

"I'm here for a challenge". This is the category we're balancing for. These people are not content with what the company standard offers, because they're very knowledgeable about the game, dig through the game files etc. They seek a challenge because at some point the default difficulty wanes. You can ask any veteran of DRG/Vermintide what they think about default difficulties, the response will probably be "yeah it's fun but not challenging enough, so I went modded". Trying to make wonky builds work by gimping themselves isn't good enough for those people, so they create balance mods. Example: Vermintide's last year BBB which was mostly created on the back of Incan and Co. weapon balance mod. They got shitloads of flak over it, but I came back to Vermintide because build diversity improved massively. If I wasn't making CVO this entire time, I would've quit DRG and never came back. Vanilla isn't fun for me anymore.

lesson learned - don't dig into the depths and just enjoy the game as it is 🙂

To me modding ruins the game causing issues forcing people to download mods just to play on a server people are increasing damage of weapons using mods basically cheating and it gets past the check if it’s verified so people can just mod their damage up slightly and basically get away with cheating and I hate that you have to download mods just to join a server 😔

We're working on getting more tags added so that you only need to download mods that are specified as the client needing them. I do agree though, it has killed my willingness to join modded lobbies since it is a ton of micro managing every mod and especially annoying with the 25 cap always being reached.

I played DRG in its early stages and at that time I was hoping they never added mods cause I don’t like modding in video games plus at the time I thought the game didn’t seem like mods would be a good idea but well it happened…
Some mods do make some pretty absurd changes to stats but it comes down to what the host wants to use and whether or not they are on sandbox. Cheat Engine and trainers will always exist and people get those confused with mods.

You're not making sense. You get one active save at a time. Whatever is active is what your progress is saved to. There's no combining save files.

hi today I opened drg and cant join any game, the field with modding is thicked there "sandbox" but i cant unthick is shadowbanned, so whenever I try to join server only shows sandbox games, when i opened game it aske me for some save and i gave it a name.
Not really. Great thing about modio is its equipped to work on consoles and other platforms. Im p sure mod support will come to those platforms in the near future.

Custom Enemy Cap does not increase enemy spawn rate by itself. You have to use a mod that increases spawn rate in conjunction with CEC.

Anyone else have problems not being able to download any mods? I have an account linked to steam on Mod.io, downloaded a few mods, waited minutes and none of them show up. Restarted the game, restarted the browser, restarted everything and no mods go into the mods folder

Ah. Husband found the issue. If anyone else has it, he sent me this: I was having the same issue and found the solution in the Discord server. You need to delete the "mod.io" folder in "Users[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\Local". Then start up the game again and it should work.

When you install a sandbox mod it should prompt you to create a new save which will be marked as sandbox, your save shouldn't "become" a sandbox save afaik

The DRG Modding Discord (linked in #fan-communities) has a whole channel dedicated to community guides and tools. It takes a little bit of set up, but audio mods are pretty straightforward and there's a really good guide made by Buck on exactly what to do.

Verified/approved mods still let you get xp and resources for your main save file, but sandbox mods force you to use a separate sandbox only save that cannot interact with vanilla/approved servers
Just note: approved and sandbox mods disable achievements while enabled, but verified mods still let you get achievements

rights, so to elaborate on my previous suggestion, this is how i imagine the minimap mod to work

im aware that in this game (unlike others) the altitude of an object relative to another is quite important, as displayed on the map itself when you bring it up with oh guess what TAB
but there are mods in minecraft for example, that let you see a flat topdown minimap, so it could be something similar
if rotation on the minimap itself is to consider thou, here there are some ideas
- could be implemented with middle mouse press and hold then rotation for example
- could have it not rotate at all, and just offer a top down view of the map
- could automatically use the cam of your dwarf in correlation with the environment to rotate the minimap
as for coding it and actual implementation, i repeat i dont have experience, maybe its possible, maybe not
dont come at me now for "being too lazy"

Making a mod that potentially might boost a bit more FPS, especially when playing those increased enemy spawn mods. It makes grunts, slashers, guards, and swarmers invisible until they come within a certain range (can still damage them if they're invisible if you somehow hit them).
Was trying to think of whats a good distance that doesn't compromise the information of being able to see enemies.
From end-to-end of a spawn room cave here is 34 meters. From the same spot all the way down to the tunnel on the right is 51 meters. Realistically for grunts/swarmers, what's a distance you would actively shoot them at, especially in the case of increased enemy spawn mods?
Do you think it might be better to attempt to make this distance variable based on what the user picks in mod settings?

That requires blueprint modding and I don't think they have done that yet.
Could be jank about it and make them only visible when in the viewport.

Yeah just one of those things no one has done yet but I'm sure someone else could make it better. But since no one else has, might as well do it myself until someone makes it better
Most enemies naturally cull themselves after ~150m from a player.
Most maps aren't that large nor have that happen normally since the spawn manager creates them relatively close, so it is kind of moot.

Enemies not being visible 40-50m out and beyond would probably be my guess for saving frames, but it's hard to say for sure what might feel comfortable. Even if I'm not shooting them, I'd want to know where bugs were for movement purposes sometimes, even at a great distance. That'll vary cave to cave tho, and even the range I chose might not be meaningful in a smaller cave that doesn't even reach that distance.

To be honest, most enemies that are of actual importance to shoot would be in the 25m or less range and the only time they aren't within that is if kiting or they are map spawns and not part of a swarm type spawn since those spawn within 25m of a player.

I have to say there's been a number of large open maps that I, as a gunner at the time, on a zipline running neurotoxin autocannon... can see super far away and will fire at. I would never use a mod to save fps via making enemies invisible unless it was saving frames by hiding them when they go behind objects/terrain.
That being said, I can see/understand why some people would use a mod to save some fps; there is just a plethora of graphics mods for fps saving already that I didn't think invisible monsters were needed for more fps >.>
Five of those FPS improving mods were made by myself. I've made it to help extreme end of people like me playing on not so good PCs and playing on harder difficulties where you have 200+ enemies on your screen, where a lot of those enemies are something you don't have to worry about because there's 50 other enemies right in front of you.
When you play with constant 10-20 fps even with just 100 enemies, every single FPS helps

what i meant about crosshair mods is that
ability to just make the crosshair for every gun just like the CS crosshair, a literal cross, or a dot

So it's doable and pretty easy for putting in premade crosshairs. Customizable crosshairs might take a bit of work but I'm sure someone could do it. It's just a matter of someone putting the time and effort into actually making the mod.
I know there's one modder out there that has said that he plans to do a mod related to crosshairs in the future

I do agree with you tho, I'm not a fan of dynamic crosshairs and I don't think you'll really lose out much if you used a static crosshair for this game especially since most weapons you really don't need precise aim. So I do wish someone makes a mod for customizing crosshairs

There was a crosshair overlay program that I used to use for DRG but I had to stop using it because it was giving me input lag because of the library it was built on I guess. iirc when I was using it I made a custom mod that removed weapon crosshairs from the game so only the custom crosshair shows up, or I think I just played with the custom crosshair and the game's crosshair at the same time, i dont remember. Turning off crosshair using the game's settings also turns off other important crosshair information like grapple distance and cooldown, etc.. so can't really use that
Most other crosshair overlay programs that I found dont work for DRG or are just not good.

Where is the model for the GK2's bullet casings stored? I can't find it in the gun's folder. There's just the gun and magazine.
The autocannon's casings look like it if you shrink and stretch it, but why would the GK2 use a modified autocannon casing when the autocannon came out after the GK2?

if it's motion sickness then there's mods n stuff to disable camera shake, and increase fov further than what vanilla can do, and you can disable headbob in vanilla too

How to folks feel about how some Approved mods can trivialize difficulty?
Like "Swarm Size Control", you could set the maximum to really low or just use the "kill all bugs" button it has to do high hazard missions easily
