probably one of the longest single segments i've played a mission in this game
on the edd, we got demolished by the grabbers that wouldnt leave us alone, especially with the cave leeches it was not very fun

the edd is very hard, stage 1 is fine and then stage 2 throws a whole bunch of stuff at you

Went into EDD w/ 3 buddies first time just sorta yolo'd around and died stage 2. Second time, we hard bunkered with a very long entrance tunnel and the plan to make an exit tunnel as soon as we heard Detonator digging. Not the funnest strat, but worked out in the end.

i drilled up to the mine head and instantly saw 2 detonators and a pretorian staring me in the face
yeah we bunkered heavily on stage 2, couldn't believe we only saw one bulk and it wasn't while we were bunkering
plenty of opps tho
in my paltry 250ish hours I don't think I've ever seen more than one bulk at the same time, that would be quite a sight

it's true, they aren't much of a threat as long as you have enough room to maneuver

Stage two of this week's EDD is cursed
So this weeks EDD was my first epic one and

Bunkers in stage 2 were an absolute lifesaver. So much verticality in that seed, was very challenging to set up a kill box in the open
Just had to keep ears open for bulk/opp growls

bunkering is a strat where you dig yourself into a hole so the bugs can only dig in which takes a long time or go through the choke you made
its looked down upon by many for being a cheese strat

Interesting, to each their own obviously, but I find driller to be the most fun overall. I think the drills' flexibility is the most fun tool for cave traversal.

i mainly use it for bulletspam at far-away mactera or for skipping mining minerals
flying nightmare mod, but you need to build it correctly in order to make it a minimum viable

TBH, the most tolerable low levels on pub EDD are scout, and then driller.
Engi and gunner, it depends on mission type and mutators
On this particular EDD, a bad engi is intolerable
A semi sentient engi can probably easily get 700 kills, while a good engi will get at least 1300
Really? Feels like the difference between a bad driller and a good one are massive, considering TCF and cryo vs flamer and none. Was the reason I only use driller on edds.
Engi can agree, though engi skill cap is pretty much limited to positioning with platforms since breach cutter is super easy to do well with. Good driller can cover a bad engi's shortcomings generally, but doesn't really work vice versa

I've seen engis with 20+ downs still get 800 ish kills on the finish screen
if you've got enough brain cells to put a turret up that isn't in a hole in the ground or facing a wall, 700 is the minimum with the amount of jellies and swarmers that spawn on stage 2
Engi and gunner are the most important classes on harder EDDs because they cover a lot of edge cases that normally don't come up too often but can screw you if you don't know how to react.
They are the only two classes with both good swarm wipe, and a big pool of ammo for their anti-large equipment, respectively the BC and gunner's pistols. Scout lacks swarm wipe, and driller's best anti-large are his axes, which he only gets 8 of.
Drill's anti-large options all either draw from small ammo pools, or are combo based. Like fire + volatile bullets, or cryo + axes.
Which inherently make them worse at dealing with "oh shit" moments than BC spam or shield + minigun/secondary spam.

Hey all, new DRG discord poster here, so I apologize if this is the wrong channel. I'm trying out Deep Dives for the first time, and I'm having some trouble getting a Deep Dive group together. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or breaking unspoken rules or something? Every team I join kicks me with "I have my reasons." Some without warning, a few made fun of me first. I hosted twice, and no one would communicate, and they all just sort of bail out five minutes in. I read up on the wiki, I've clocked over sixty hours, I'm comfortable a Haz 3 and 4 - any idea what gives?

Hopefully this doesn't come across as too harsh. I'm gonna say a lot of things that are unpopular and rude, but likely true to one extent or another.
- Generally speaking, nobody cares about you in random pubs. They care what you can do for them. Given how difficulty scales with more players, it is quite possible for players to literally be worse than nothing. There will always be exceptions, but your general operating assumptions should be this unless otherwise proven wrong.
- Blue level matters in a way. The people that say it doesn't matter at all are liars, trying to make you feel better, or delusional. Given that there is no way gauge skill in the game in a direct manner before jumping into the actual game, people can and will resort to proxy measurement, which would be blue level and promotion level. Deep Dives can and do take a significant amount of time, 45 min to 2 hours. If you fail, you get kicked back to the start, and since players can't join in progress dives you are stuck with the players you started it with. And most people don't want to take a teammate in, and 30 minutes in find out that he doesn't know what he's doing. So they preemptively screen based on their proxy measurements, or give up early when they see something that makes them believe that the mission is doomed to fail.
- Timing matters. You can only get the rewards that matter (i.e. cores) on your first success on all stages. Meaning that for most people, when they beat the dive once they don't do it again. This creates a selection effect where the good players finish the dives in 1-2 tries early after the refresh on Thursday morning, and as time goes on the people still trying it are the ones that keep losing. I.E., you begin to scrape the bottom of the barrel, and find teammates that are some combination of unskilled, new, stupid, incredibly unlucky, or combative. I personally believe that it is not worth it to try public dives after the weekend.
Generally speaking, I personally don't kick very much, in large part because I do my EDDs early, I actually enjoy playing the 2 main carry classes, and my server name and level probably already scare away people. But for EDDs in particular, bronze players and players with levels <80 make me kinda nervous.

imo the biggest difficulty swings in an EDD is decided by your teammates. I have had easy EDDs be really hard and vice versa depending on team

yeah, kinda goes back to what FeelZe was talking about. EDD grouping is the most strict just because of the time investment. you really gotta trust those dudes

there wasn't much room to maneuver on stage 2, where most of my downs were. platforms going under resources underneath...pretty messy

how was the EDD this week?
stage 1 is an easy low o2 escort w 2 eggs, then the second stage is a liquid morkite extraction w 2 eggs but the map and enemy spawns are pretty hard for casual/most players
i havent got to stage 3 myself
egg spawns are easy for both too
The third stage is so much more manageable than the second because you can easily set up a killbox and all the eggs are clustered together
All in all the cave is practically one area big
But it is also cave leech cluster and haz 5.5 means that if you all just blindly sprint in it's game over
Especially since there's some 9 or so leeches in that one area
stage 2 wasn't too bad. as long as scout can handle not getting picked off by the two leaches and everyone else stays together it was manageable.
just had a failed attempt at stage 2... we were doing okay, and then we got a swarm while inside a tunnel and just lost the frigging plot
double gunner was actually doing decent work, but the lack of engineer turret shooting jellyfish was a pain... and stage one doretta rocks went pretty bad

There was 2 leeches towards the back. Far enough from everything else that the scout is a hassle to get.

I have dash, and I still get fricking murdered. though the dash does briefly save me from murder events
I only survived that second stage of the EDD with as few downs as that by using special powder as a GTFO technique

well, I was taking wider line on tier 2, but I never felt like I was murdering the praetorians enough with a single shot
try stubbies, 2 turrets, hyper propellant and prox grenades.
I use 211222 w/ strong plasma curret as much stock build and change mods for mutators

at least it dosn't kill you in close quarters
stubbies feel like I'm starving for ammo all the time
I take hyperpropellant on elimination missions, where I miss 1/3 of the shots anyways, but it still hurts the dreds
ok, the build for "I can't or don't want to have to trust my teammates" is just minishells, BC with cleans, double sentry w/ defender, and mines
no memes, no gimmicks, no dependencies, just good ammo economy and good enough dps

anything too accuracy based suffers when you try to hard carry

because when 40 grunts want a piece of your ass you can't exactly take the time to aim at the writhing pile of bodies

but when one grunt's ass clips into another grunts face

I don't, but I forced myself to actually aim at faces close up and it helped me a lot because my old tactic was "be dumb"
point is, minishells has the spam power to deal with messy situations
mpa doesn't really; anything that requires too much aim suffers when things get messy
same reason why autocannon excels in clusterfucks while minigun requires noticably more effort

and with carpet bomber, you shoot the wrong side of the map, and you still get kills

elemental insulation is the only perk i think is mostly always good
for this week's edd, if you take elemental insulation, not only you will be more resistant to the magma core's fire but you will have 80% resistance to the praetorians/acid spitters poisons. I love running it on my engi and even more on magma biome

EDD this week was ez. Sure there were Lethal Monsters and Low Oxy but we got lucky with the lack of special enemies.
Engi is supposed to control an area, not the entire cave, that's why he has low range weapons

i play on haz4 like 90% of the time and am starting my foray into haz5, the EDDs so far have been hit or miss for me lol, just gotta get better i suppose. i say try it out, never know until you try
some EDDs can absolutely brutal, others extremely easy
a lot of the difficulty in them tends to come from environmental factors imo
since dreadful terrain tends to hurt a lot more on haz5 than haz3
The thing is DDs are the same to regulars H3 as EDDs are to regulars H5 players
It's just that most of people don't play H5, so when you add mutators, complex cave generation, and the fact that you have to make 3 of them in a row ... it starts to be rough
For regulars H5 players EDDs are just ... H5 missions, nothing else

Really depend on what your weaknesses are, try to spot what make you fail higher hazards
Maybe you facetank bugs and you may learn to kite and it has nothing in common with class knowledge, jsut a example from X reason you could struggle

it dreads me to think of what 5 is like
the jump is not as big, even though still significant

In between waves in H5 are clearly there, you won't need to wait management to call a wave to shoot walls of bugs (sometimes) ๐

But may it be because of inexperience ? I think from H3 to H4 it's mostly that you encounter way more variations of bigger bugs
In H3 a guard feel like a shiney pokemon, while in H4 you start to see them more often along warden and stuff

I felt like after some experience in the game that 3 and 4 were not that much of a difference, I feel like the bugs's speed and the in between spawn of H5 make it something else
I'm afraid I wouldn't be good advice on this, I started right way H4 and quickly switch on H5. The only time I did some H3, like maybe 10 missions ... ? was on solo when I just wanted to farm minerals and chill with some music on the bg
I guess, mostly kite, learn to kite really, a hit by a slasher and you can call yourself dead for example ... target's priority sense
Maybe also good positions / not being greedy. Spot a battle ground on every room you are, at any moment if it looks like the situation heats up, you have to know where to run and hold ...

Move speed : 1.00 / 1.00 / 1.15 => Biggest jump in hazard 5 is the fastest bugs, no big surprise there
Friendly fire : 0.30 / 0.40 / 0.70 => big jump between haz 4 and 5
Environmental damage : 1.00 / 1.33 / 2.00 => same here
Revive Health : 0.40 / 0.20 / 0.10 => biggest from haz 3 to 4
Max health regeneration : 0.15 / 0.15 / 0.10 => haz 5 is the only change
Point Extraction scaler : 0.90 / 1.00 / 1.10 => linear scaling
I've been checking the resistances of the enemies as well. Lot of numbers so I'm not going to put them all down but :
Enemy count is a linear scaling
No resistance changes between haz 4 and 5 for normal enemies
Large enemies resistance (any big regular enemy basically) : Linear scaling
Extra large enemy resistance (Dreadnought and BET-C) : BIG jump between haz 3 and 4
Extra large 2 enemy resistance (Korlok) : No change between haz 4 and 5
Deep dives have a scaling of their own as well with the 3.5 and 5.5 difficulty
Overall it seems haz 5 is a slightly bigger jump in difficulty when looking at the numbers ^^
I think the movespeed of the enemies is the biggest factor

So then players have a list of non toxic and skilled player that can get messaged to teach people

I spent over an hour on that one map and died 17 times
