these fast cycles happen the moment i kick the barrel, usually

i can't exactly grapple the barrel out of mid-air to try again, and even if I wanted to, I can't risk dropping the combo

Unless my math fails me, if you get 100 barrels perfect, but let the combo drop every time, the most points you can get is 1300

plus, the fast cycles themselves aren't that hard. I can easily make those. The problem is going from a slow to fast/fast to slow while I'm kicking it. It's complete random chance.

Kick the barrel with intend to catch on it's return from right to left, it changes speed when it reaches the left side.

It doesn't make it any easier when the barrel decides to do a spin as it flies through the air, ending up landing on the rim meaning that even if it somehow gets inside, it means the barrel bounce on the next shot guarantees that your combo is now dropped.

This game is why I drink.
