that's a default cylinder shape in the Unreal 4 Engine, you can also see that shape on the shoulder lamps with some armor (unless they took them out). The material on it is a default one. More likely than not no materials are broken, they just left the cylinder in by accident. (SOURCE: I use Unreal 4 in my job)

The wireframe appearance and initial facing of the turret doesn't matter. If you placed it with the defender arc facing where you want it, it will cover it when firing.

It should fire in the arc you specify when it's placed. The first couple turret swings are just for show, I guess. I can personally say I've only seen my Defender turrets covering an area I specified. It's pretty apparent if you just hang out behind it and watch for a while.

so its easy to predict where they spawn

Bet-C’s are a abandoned project by DRG and an old one too. These infections the Bet-C’s have are not specified to have stages, but my guess would be it originally entered the machine at a spore stage and rapidly grew as the infection fed on the copper wiring and electricity (somehow). I believe all it would take is a maintenance crew to be with Bet-C but that would have defeated the point of the project.

You don't need to create a new account to play with friends, just use one of the build slots to create a build with fewer weapon mods and no OC's until they start getting them so you won't dominate every mission.
That's what I usually do at least.
