If you are promoted you will get some empty matrix cores. And after completing an event of that sort (as shown in your screenshot) you can enter that empty core there (they will be shown next to your credits when on the hub). GSG put out multiple patches in the past concerning those issues with droppod falling on machine events. Do post it to #bug-discussion as well please.
If that should happen again, please press ESC to the menu and post a screenshot of that as well. The ESC menu shows a number in the left bottom which is the map seed and helps GSG pin down what happened in those cases. There are mechanisms in place which should not let that happen at all.

I exhausted my IW halfway through. If it wasnt for that one other Scout running IW we woulda been toast. But we pulled ourself together and kept the hull of the dozer just barely above 20% for the last segment.

A pickaxe enhancer. When you promote a dwarf you get a key that lets you activate the various random machine events in levels. That one is probably the easiest machine event. You run over little blue and yellow canisters and they make your pickaxe stronger so you can power attack faster and more easily kill bugs that are covered in stone.

@languid pond I'll try the 2 damage mods but always felt +1 and +2 damage felt niche.
I actually used the 25clip mags for the longest time tbh.
I just got 40 clip because of the oc I got and felt it would be fun. :p

ammo management is one thing, but the increased mag size does increase your dps as you can dish out more damage before having to reload, which helps when killing stronger targets, regardless of skills
