If I remember correctly it's a huge insult to shave a dwarf's beard. Think on the level of removing the mask of a Luchadore, but worse because it takes so long to regrow a beard.

To shave a dwarf's beard off is a MASSIVE insult. It can be seen as having committed as heinous a deed as a public castration of a good man, but less severe. Still, to shave a dwarf of his beard is to bring him great shame.

But if I remember correctly, dwarves are also sympathetic to their kind, and if a good dwarf is ever shamed in such a horrific way, their community will rally to protect their honor and make certain nobody else sees the shaved dwarf until his beard grows back.

Dwarves in Warcraft are a different story. Shaving the beard off a dwarf against his will will get you punched in the face so hard your head will look like a deflated balloon... And IF you SOMEHOW survive that, you'll be in such agony that you wouldn't believe you survived it!
