Not sure how we feel about fanfics around here, but saw this reddit post the other day that got me thinking.

So I spent a while writing this short story—my first real fanfic. I’ve done a lot of prose before, and I like to think it shows here. Didn’t originally plan to share it, but it turned out too good (in my opinion) not to.

I tried to keep things pretty lore-accurate, with a few creative liberties where it felt right. Apologies in advance if it doesn’t match your headcanon lol

I spent way too long making this lol. All I'm good for is writing, can't actual art for crap.

The phasing is clear, the choice of words is pleasant, characters expressions is believable and fit in drg setting really well. Story entertains and intrigues, leaves with “I want more” feeling at the end

SPOILERS: ||Though this feeling comes with some aspects of confusion. A) beef between characters seems personal, yet there is no clear background for it. Ok, Gunner is a b (don’t mean brother). Why does the rest of the team tolerate his actions? If they know he’s a high-ranking jerk - why expect him to help at the end and not try to stick together as close as possible? Adding some premise could hella enhance already established personalities B) What's the overall message of a story at the end? Depressing world of intergalactic mining? Driller is a best boy Don’t expect help from promoted people? The ending seems open, yet If going full grim dark - not enough Gunner’s impunity, management ignorance and suffering of the crew. If giving a glimpse of hope - no evidence that the main characters is eager to return/search for their fallen comrades/ keep fighting for their name (despite all odds and walking arses, like Gunner)||

Overall, I really enjoyed this fanfic. If 90 % of AO3 works had similar commitment and spirit to their fandom - world would be a better place. Rock and stone to the bone!

You brought up points I hadn’t fully considered, especially around ||the squad’s tolerance of Gunner and the lack of setup behind it.|| I think I got tunnel vision following the tone of that Reddit post, and didn’t flesh out the “why” as much as I should’ve.

The stuff about the ending makes sense too; was aiming for ||ambiguous, but yeah, could’ve pushed the theme harder.|| Might tweak or expand later if I get the itch.

Heracule Rotary Battery - a hand-cranked classic gatling gun, loaded with high capacity, spiral drum mags filled with high-cal rounds.
Spitfire GMFO - a bio-mechanical amalgam that emits sprays and globules of coagulated, corrosive enzymes, sourced from cells sampled from unknown organisms.
HALE Pintle 40mm - a giant shotgun originally designed to be mounted as a sentry, now strapped to your arm! loaded with all sorts of tech to ensure there's a relatively low chance of injury upon firing.
I also did do a replacement for the spitfire for ranger, a different model of Deepcore called the VSM (as in, spell components), as a similar*, standard bug-huntin rifle

If you use A4 paper, separate it into 4 pieces, since a standard post card is exactly A6 sized, so you can make 4 cards from one sheet of paper 🙂

this was the concept I got when I played the elite deep dive with my friend. I was using the minigun and I used up all my ammo, then I railed them with my six shooter, only one small glyphid remained, and guess what, i powerblasted its skull into pieces with a confident "FOR KARL".

@vestal beacon it's not the sanding that has me time consumed. It's the painting small details. Wish I had multi color printing. Botched the wurst beer logo today and had to sand and repaint down to primer

Originally had painted it whole silver and getting the acrylic white to not glob in the checkered area is what gave me fits.

Nothing white spray paint can't fix though - just will have to do the details again tomorrow

Made some badge ribbons to hand out if anyone sees me at Magfest and shouts We're Rich

Isopropyl alcohol works wonder to remove acrylic paints, and you can apply it with a brush.
