I assume this thread?
https://discord.com/channels/257785731072786435/1038087237667139645
ty, it's kinda lost in those hundreds of threads as of now, though there's a link in the end of pinned thread
Those issues were brought up, we are waiting for the devs to be back in the office tomorrow to read about it ^^
Hello, I have the following problem: The game takes a long time to load, I press ESC - the game freezes. I select the settings tab - it hangs. I switch to another save - it freezes. I put fashion - hangs.
This is not a computer problem. The problem is in the game.
Please assert your game issues in #bug-discussion or #drg-chat , this is a translating channel, you see :>
<@&296918282403840000>
Cool!
@boreal quest Isn't there a typo channel already?https://discord.com/channels/257785731072786435/1038087237667139645
now this one's left
and where would I report not translated strings now?
like if I noticed some string in english where it certainly should be translated already in the game, where and how would I check if it's been reported or not?
Those should be made as new posts on PleaseFix
In Jira, I recall we had subtasks, hence the question: is there such view or name format to find and check them all quickly?
In PleaseFix it could easily be one of the filterable categories, but I don't see it at the moment.
Should I re-report missing characters from the typefaces to pleasefix as well? Considering that the system seems to focus on reproduction and upvoting, I am not sure it will be worth it, considering not many people would care for such a minor issue.
I am not aware of a similar feature on PleaseFix. But there should be a low enough amount of those for this not to become a problem.
Yes you should. If needed, you can always ask other translators/proofreaders to try it as well so they can confirm those.
I'm just afraid that this low amount will get lost in cosmetic category where it belongs atm, hence the concern that it'd be hard to check those.
The matter of translation/typos bugs and of how to effectively report those is still being discussed. More info on those when I have them, and am allowed to give them - this is a public channel after all.
It'd make sense for devs to watch over all the reports no matter if it's confirmed or highly upvoted. Most bugs surely lack community attention anyways.
The #1062710911367925780 forum is only for the english version of the game of also for typos in translations ?
Only for english ones
Please report typos in translations here
||MC is speaking to the team, so plural is the correct form||
Makes sense, thanks
Ik I’m dumb but I’m new so the pod chats r they for pc bc idk which ones r for Xbox or what lol
Try asking in #drg-chat , this is the translation channel, you see
where/how to report translation error?
here I suppose
if it's for typo in the english version though, go to #1062710911367925780
thank you!
since belows are Japanese translation errors, I'd like to explain in Japanese. please tell me if these should be in English.
"1 / 2 times per mission, you can escape after being grabbed**, killing your captor in the process!"
@foggy pawn @uncut arch that is your alley I believe
it was even interesting to hear, kkkkkkk
My japanese isn't good enough to help him unfortunately
Gonna resume studies beggining next month, gotta improve my linguistics
so, when I use the localization debug mode, how exactly do I make use of those string numbers? when I look them up on crowdin, I come up empty
Click your language in the top left to open the language list, select ‘DRG - Testing Language,’ and search there
thanks, I found it!
In Russian language when pinging a maggot there's one line where subtitles say "There is a maggot!" (it's not translated as other voicelines do, it should say "Здесь личинка!")
In the parameters of your game, could you turn on the debug language option, and activate it by pressing ctrl + o before pinging the maggot again ?
It should display you a code, in the form of #xxxxxx.
If so, please copy the code in here for us.
If not, that's because something broke between Crowdin and the game, and the game can't access the translation for this string
It still says "There is a maggot!" even with the Language Debug on
I just created the report, you're welcome
https://drg.pleasefix.gg/projects/DEEP-ROCK-GALACTIC/issues/DRG-202
Thanks
You can add your screenshots there via "Contribute" option, but there is probably no need.
Next time you know what to do when you encounter smth like it.
same thing happens in pt-br, it might just be every language
Yep, the string in game isn't connected to its translation on Crowdin, that's a frequent break
it seems no response yet
btw, is translation update done independently from patch/hotfix?
cuz that was from ps4 S3 patch10 and I wonder if steam had fixed it already (and hence no response)
Normally translation gets updated every patch, but community translators are able to check new translation in-game next day after making a change.
If you have questions about japanese translation, perhaps you should contact japanese translators. You can probably find them in the pinned list from fakiyo.
ok, thank you
any finnish translators used a name for rockpox yet?
i think "kivirutto" might work
You can use the "Translation Memory" to check terms in already translated strings
do kazakh drg translators exist?
i've somehow found myself translating DRG to kazakh and i might need some help
lol
@full whale hi, i just search Thai word randomly and found out that you're interested in translating this game to Thai language. i'm volunteer into helping since i'm Thai person too and never have a problem using English language but i want drg to be popular here
they probably do, but there probably isn't a lot of them
Hello there,
We had a translator for Kazakh, but they abandoned the project quite a while ago and also left the server, so it is not even possible to get in touch with them anymore...
Feel free to ask about the translation here anyway, we will try to help as best we can.
always happy to have more people to help. translate away
Is there a way to change the language of the source text? it's much more convenient for me to translate from russian since i know it better
@kindred urchin go to https://crowdin.com/project/deep-rock-galactic setup your profile and you can start translating right away. If you have any problems translating, you can always @ me here or leave some comments there, since I'm quite active on both platform.
It is not possible for the moment, since the game is sourced in english.
What you can do instead is check the Russian translation for the string you are looking at (under the suggestions for the selected string).
thanks
keep in mind though that doing a translation from another translation might lose you some of context and playwords
the russian translation's pretty good and i know english good enough to notice
what's the context of "Brundle"?
@crisp badge another tip for you. find a similar language as a context when you do the translation alone, for me, Thai language has a very similarity of word structure as Korean and Chinese so when im struggling I always use those languages as a reference.
It's the name of a Mactera, and a reference to the movie "The Fly"
https://deeprockgalactic.wiki.gg/wiki/Mactera_Brundle
transliterate it to brundle in ur language
is there a way to look up a word to see if it's already been translated to my language?
If the glossary is completed, it will show up as an underline in the source.
If not, you can see it in the TM if a similar string has been translated already.
And you can always do a search for that word and check the strings that pop up
If it hasn't been done already, I encourage you to try and complete the glossary.
||And I'll try to update it one of these days, promise||
@crisp badge how familiar are you with CAT tools?
what's that
Computer-assisted translation
it (usually) consists of TM(Translation Memories) and termbase
most translators(with tech-savvy) would use these tools to translate the big and file-based projects
automatic kazakh translation is kinda iffy
Crowdin is one of them(but online) so if u see some iffy translations it means some people already did it and u might need to ask or learn the context
???
please read the threads before translating
Those are already included in the way crowdin works, but most of the submissions from those system in the past have been lacking in accuracy and in their ability to translate the jokes and underlying meaning of strings.
We'd rather have hand translated strings, but few of them, than a full language by machine - it happened before, and the result was having to scrap the entire translation and start it over again by hand.
So please don't suggest Machine Translations as a valid option. Not on a project like a game, anyway
this, use it as a tool not the final decision
From the project's home page
---- Technical guidelines for translations ----
- All the text from the game is one long list called "AllGameText"
- Due to mysterious reasons the order of the strings are pretty much random. Sorry about that!
- Check the Context to get an idea about where in the game the text is displayed.
- Text in UPPERCASE must also be in UPPERCASE in the translated version.
- Never translate text that is INSIDE brackets; both { } and [ ] counts for this. So, a text saying "Press [SPACE] to jump" must not have the "[SPACE]" part translated. In the danish translation, it would end up as "Tryk [SPACE] for at hoppe".
- Text with line breaks needs special care. Each line break needs the special code "\r". It should end up with the same structure as you see it in the original text. Example:
CHANGE\r
LOOKS
will in the danish translation become
SKIFT\r
UDSEENDE
on that
not a lot of people know some of the words i'm writing since most people here mix in russian in their kazakh speech
like i learnt maybe 10-15 new words while using the dictionary
I just give him a surface of the knowledge of the CAT tools not suggesting the TM or termbase as a valid of anything It should not and never be used as the final product of any kind of project, sorry if I made you think otherwise
As I said, we had a couple of massive dumps of translations that were straight from automated processes, so I'm a bit touchy around those.
Especially since, for at least one language, the damage was so bad it had to be scraped and started over.
i got you, sorry to hear that
is it ok if i slightly change the meaning of strings to sound more correct?
for example with "rocket here, bosco" being changed to "shoot your rocket here, bosco"
if you think it's appropriate for the sentence, you can always do
no if you think the proof readers will approve it, then do
Always !
The primary goal when translating is to convey the meaning in your language, then to make it sound natural, and finally to try and keep the humor.
@shell vine By the way. Can you ask about some TM cleaning?
I see a lot of outdated TM suggestions.
I know, that TM can be cleaned by Project Owners.
I'll check
Just wanna ask if anyone is currently working on the Vietnamese translation? I wanna lend a hand ^^
I don't know if someone is active right now, but feel free to help, the link is in the pinned messages, after the translators list
Thanks! It would be nice to get in contact with the person responsible for the translation first to let them know. ^^
We don't have people for this. The project is community driven, so anyone can participate when they feel like it, no need to warn anyone or something
I'm quite certain we don't have active viatnamese translators at the moment
Yep, we have a handful of people but only doing translations, but only here and there. Very minor activity, last was november 23.... 6 strings. then may 2022, 14 strings. That's nothing.
And nobody active on discord here.
You are very welcome to join the team and get going on the vietnamese translation 🙂
Are any of the [langugage]-translators channels active? Or is it just that we as poles are incapable of communicating effectively (just look at our Sejm)?
Not at the moment, but pretty active during update season (for the fr one)
Doing Ukrainian by myself. And this is for good. 'cause other random helpers 99% need rewriting
I just wish that we could get some cooperation, but oh well, it's a community project so nothing is organized
it's kinda dependent on getting a solid team going for a while 😄
Yeah, there's none of that here at the moment, and I don't feel like sparing the energy to try to contact people to make one, I have real life stuff to do
which is understandable, real life comes first
Yeah same, I started hard but I had some real life things and I haven't touched crowdin for 2 weeks, and I won't be able to lend time to that until at least the end of the week after this one
I wanted to be consistent and grind the allgametext slowly but surely to completion, but real life comes first :/
I think it would've be, if the crowdin page was set to private, but as it stands anyone with a smartphone or a pc can already go 'n translate to their hearts desire
Can I change/delete old strings? A lots of them are either wrongly translated or not translated at all. One prime example is "Rock and Stone", where it's translated into Vietnamese very easily but I noticed that the majority of them are kept the same.
You can delete your own strings and correct them slightly, but if you're talking about other people's strings, then you can submit your own string and downvote the ones with mistakes.
Thanks! I figured it would be very rude to just delete/change others work. Gonna try and translate them as much as possible:D
…Unless it's been approved, in that case only a proofreader can fix it
Nop, mostly just translated, not approved, but thanks for the info 😀
HAHAHA, BUT WHAT IF ALL YOUR PROOFREADERS ARE GONE?!?!
that.. would be really bad... i hope.. this.. doesn't happen to.. to anyone.. wouldnt be me... help
Then some new person gets assigned for proofreading. But in that case you may encounter issues when new proofreader starts to change and re-approve old strings that were completely fine before without contacting and consulting with previous proofreaders that could be still semi-active. The way a language can accumulate multiple proofreaders over time who try to implement their own vision into the file independently can be perceived both in good and bad lights. Thus, imo there better be no proofreaders, unless it's really necessary.
The general policy is to only appoint a proofreader when there is griefing going on, or the need to change old, approved strings, and the original proofreader is no longer around...
I've definitely seen that "no longer around" to be interpreted wrong in the past.
As for Polish, I can see that one of the three PR is indeed gone (Mads, left GSG long ago), one has not been active in 7 months, so might be off project, the last one has in the last 4 weeks.
In that case new proofreading can be perceived as sort of "legal griefing". Though it's not as blatant as a regular one and could be simply assessed as disagreement and ignorance.
Half of the debt is paid, untranslated — translated. 12k left to proofread…
But i'm ready to meet another season ^)
Hard job, when new fellas flight in, making some suggestions and fly out. 90% should be rewritten…
I agree on that part, but I believe this is less of a problem for languages that are not yet close to completion, as it is more important to finish the translation than to have it be perfect at first. Once it is complete though, the time can be used to review and clean up the suggestions - proofreading in a sense ;)
Having a completed language also helps by having it in game, and having people come in to signal wrong strings, or mistakes.
Yup, when they came to me at first — i share my vision and tips regarding Crowdin and debug-mode = success. But ,main problem — poor game experience, poor native language level.
But, proofreading is my own chosen cross for this game ))
until recently, all pt-br proofreaders were gone
I mentioned that here and on the same day a new one was picked
what ensued was glorious to witness
greenbeard question: Does Crowdin has an app version? My browser is kinda iffy sometime xP
Unfortunately not
dang. Would love to have one though. Thanks for the answer!
@shell vine @sage tangle may I have the pt-br translator role?
you need to ask Jacob or mods for that
Neither of us are devs or mods, so we can't really help you here.
Try for a mod first. The better option would be to have someone from your language vouch for you before you ping a mod
there's @somber gulch , I was talking to him on Crowdin and he told me to use the pt-br channel to get more feedback than just his
@native token can you please bestow the ptbr translator role to @broken path ? 🙂
oh, thank you 😁
Thanks Tommy ❤️
Hello! I'd like to apply helping to translate the game into Dutch but I see it's around 95% done already
All you need is to join the project on Crowdin https://crowdin.com/project/deep-rock-galactic
and start translating.
You can also ping a moderator to get the nl-translators role, so you can coordinate with other translators.
Oof there's more stuff than I anticipated, I can't do it in one sitting I'm afraid even though I want to haha
No one anticipates you to do big from the get-go. Just tune in when you feel like it.
you don't have to do it in one sitting at all, there's no expectation. Help in what ways you can, it's always a start.
I know, I'm just OCD like that, I usually write essays and stuff in 1 sitting like a habit
Even if you do it in one sitting, there's gonna be thousands of strings added in following months as well. Although, you can just translate bit-by-bit, filtering topics by strings' context, so you will always have your end goal for one sitting.
Try 'n do it like I usually do when there's too much stuff to translate: Separate the strings and do a daily quota, it helps out a ton
Like in season's 3 release, I'd translate 185 strings per day till launch
aight i'll look it up
seem like you already translate a bunch i think i could also revise your translate
ok have fun translating
feel free to add more translation when u think u could improve it
What do you do when someone translated a variable? Does downvoting remove it or do I report it?
Downvote and post correct translation would be my guess
But beware, sometimes Crowdin show things as variable when it's not
I'm not sure which one it was but something like [dry cough] was interpreted by crowdin as a variable where it was a subtitle
It's {value}%
yeah that's a variable x)
I just wrote the same thing and downvoted the translation. Thanks for your help
The Rock Cracker pods use "Stromkabel fortführt" when adding a new segment after the first.
It should be "Stromkabel fortführen" - fortführt is the wrong form of the verb
Woops that was my bad! According to the translation it was a tuesday 23:00 two months ago 😄
Fixed it. If you find any other errors in German, please report them here.
Thanks for your help!

(Translation fix will make it in on the next official patch from GSG)
Danke, AnkepocaFailed
Found some more typos!
First sentence should be "Der Leaf Lover ist nur auf der Karte, um das Management zufriedenzustellen." - notice the comma. "Um" is used as a conjunction here.
Final sentence should be "Lass nur niemanden wissen, dass du einen getrunken hast." - "Wissen" is the knowledge, "wissen" is to know, and in situations like this, latter is used.
🇩🇪
Also, it should be either "Strahlende Strata" (Strata is the plural of stratum, and as such uses the same articles/adjectives as a feminine word) or Strahlendes Stratum (Stratum is grammatically neutral)
👍
If we find typo's in voicelines that are currently not in the game. (Future seasonal events) Is it still ok to put them in #1062710911367925780 ?
Just reporting them on crowdin is enough
How do I do that? I only started translating a few days ago
In the comment bar on the side, check the "issue" box, and select "mistake in source string" in the drop down menu. Then just add a comment on where the typo is and submit the comment.
Oh I see it now I had the terms menu open, thanks!
The "No, that's no oil shale!" voiceline in German is missing an exclamation mark or any type of punctuation at the end.
The "Canister ready for re-fueling!" voiceline is untranslated when using subtitles in German.
"Kannister bereit zum Befüllen!" should be a decent translation.
Also, the Miner's Manual calls the Glyphid Grunt Guards "Wache" but the actual game calls them "Wächter". While those words are closely related, it is still jarring.
It even happens on the Miner's Manual - the entry is called Wache but the description calls it Wächter!
Update, it seems ALL the "fuel canister filled up" voicelines are not using German translations with subtitles on.
Also, prompts plugging in or removing a canister from Doretta still has the English "Canister" written on it. (Should be "Kannister")
The Glyphid Grunt suffers from a similar issue as the Grunt Guard, but this time it is "Krieger" (warrior) and "Kämpfer" (fighter)
Which makes the fact that the ebonite version is called Eboniten-Kämpfer quite jarring
Ahh, somebody not betriebsblind 🙂
Thanks for all the reports, we'll fix that asap.
If you're interested...
Well, I already aided in the translation of one game, what's another?
That's the spirit.
If you're interested in more, we can add you to the de_translator team
Should probably be better that way.
I probably skim through the translations to see if I can spot a thing or two...
Do you guys translate the DLC names? Some of the translations in Dutch kept the English version but others changed it to Dutch. I am more inclined to change it to Dutch but I am just wondering what others do.
IIRC, they need to stay untranslated.
@shell vine can confirm maybe ?
I looked through some other languages and it seems like most translate it. I did find one for the DARK FUTURE pack in French that wasn't translated but all the others were.
It is not possible to translate the names of the DLCs on steam (not easily, anyway), so if you translate them, they will have a different name in the game than on steam.
So I keep the English version?
Pretty sure I reverted translation on those 🤔
I'll need to double check
I checked it quickly and I am not that experienced with crowdin so I might have looked at the wrong things
I will likely sit down every other day or so and add my own ideas to some of the lines or add stuff like commas to them. Is that ok?
We would love that! Once you translate the game so much, you become blind to small errors and stuff. Betriebsblind. Any helping hand is very welcome
Understandable! I don't think I will nail everything, but I should be able to help out regardless.
Also, I understand the whole Betriebsblindheit thing - I translated a game before, it is EXTREMELY easy to miss a line, some words etc...
Which one? 🙂
You read the stickies / know we're reading crowdin?
I meant in general when translating, and I know you read it
As for the game I translated... Epic Battle Fantasy 5. Wacky affectionate parody of JRPGs that started as silly flash game.
Anyway, back to translating.
How exactly do I become a translator
Create a crowdin account, select a language you're proficient in, start typing stuff that makes sense
And voilà, translator achieved
time to do that now
it's like that also in the source string; but therefore similar transaltions have an exclamation mark I opend an issue for the source string
will fix the German translation once this is resolved
Ok, thanks for the info.
according to crowdin it has been translated over one month ago
Oh yeah, spotted another issue that I actually cannot find in crowdin rn.
The "Unknown Material" text (you can get it when pointing at a LURE, for example) is still that way in German.
"Unbekanntes Material" should work for translations.
Thanks for bringing this up. The string should be fixed with the next update.
Again, thanks for bringing this up. Should be fixed by the next game update.
Since the original (source) string in EN also misses an exclamation mark, we did not add one for the translation. @trail gale raised an issue about this on Crowdin and I approved an new translation with an added exclamation mark. Therefore, this issue should be fixed by the next update.
Edit: Just saw that Rala basically explained all of this further above. 🙂
No biggie. I just keep an eye out and either add my ideas on crowdin or put them here.
"Guards" should be translated as "Wächter". We'll work on fixing it.
"Grunt" should be translated as "Kämpfer". We'll be working on fixing it.
Interesting, we'll have to take a look at this.
@opal siren please do!
Thanks for raising all these issues. We'll try to improve them.
Dear @nova walrus can you bestow the ancient and noble role of de_translator to @opal siren ? 🙂
there ya go 😁
Thank you! ❤️
Hi, i found that there is a missing polish translation for the tuned cooler overclock
The same is with electricity in the miners guide
Hi, the translations are done by the community, so not every translation is 100% complete. Everyone is welcome to help with the Polish translation at https://crowdin.com/project/deep-rock-galactic/pl
Is this something I should translate? I noticed most languages kept the English version but some didn't.
Getting ahead of myself here, but curious at what point does a community translator get to be included in the credits? I see they've updated the list with more people over time
30.000 words: Mentioned in in-game credits
it hasn't been updated in a while now
and what if the language you're working on has less than 30k words left untranslated
that ship has sailed I assume? xd
Wait for the next season
the game is continuously expanding
there's always more to do
interesting, thanks you guys!
Is there a Dutch translators groupchat?
I'm not sure...
We don't get a lot of Dutch translators at the same time, so I don't know if the role and chat was ever created...
Just checked, seeing the past activity, there has definitely been some.
Yeah, it does seem like the Dutch translation isn't very active anymore. Was just wondering, since sometimes it's hard making a decision on what a word that gets used a lot should be translated to.
Probably mostly me haha
And having some other people to discuss it with would help
@lusty root Are you still around ? A translator for Dutch is looking for colleagues...

Hello @buoyant dagger , could you grant the nl-translator role to Repper ?
sneaky last second switch of ping ^^
Thanks
Thank you!
They should give you the role of community translator.
In due time, I'm in no rush
Yay I can finally come back to translate for a few weeks
how can we see how many words we've translated so far in Crowdin?
https://crowdin.com/project/deep-rock-galactic/reports/top-members search your name here
thank you!
What is your crowdin tag ?
My tag? Let me see
May I send a link of my profile in here?
Sure.
But just the account name is enough
Ah alright, my name there is VeronicaGomes
Congrats!
why is the bullet hell overclock text in russian literally "hellish bullets"
its stayed like that for 3 years already
@fresh wharf Might have an answer.
i submitted a proofread request
Then you should wait for a proofreader to accept or deny the revision.
okay
I find the current version appropriate tho
I added another option, but that's all I can do
there isnt really anything "hellish" about the bullets
well they can shoot through walls and they auto-aim towards creatures
but I get that it's not the original meaning
Bullet hell is a reference to the type of game "Bullet hell", named as such because the screen is often filled to the brim with projectiles.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BulletHell
yes that's what i mean
the minigun fills the room with projectiles that are near impossible to dodge
i think they would be hellish if they ignited stuff
alright, I checked - it's literally a genre called "bullet hell" and I added its used translation as another option, which is simply literal translation of the string
thanks, Azerty
@dense valley can change the translation, however most players have likely got used to the current one
There is no conventional translation for "bullet hell" in russian, so I think "ад из пуль" is the best sounding one. I'll approve it
thanks
Is it just me or someone's elses game is messing up the languages?
I put the game in english and its mixing both english and spanish
did you change back and forth between the two languages?
I went in to check, and it seems some strings don't change languages when I do that
in my case, I switched from english to pt-br and back to english, and now both languages show up
it seems to be newer strings that are having this issue
That is a known bug. Let's just hope it gets fixed with the next patch...
"slap" when looking at the fireworks has this problem, but "slap" when looking at the springy dwarf figure on the bar counter doesn't
ahh, I see, good to know
Yeah, good to know, I was getting a meltdown seeing some major pt spelling mistakes, and then realizing it wasn't pt
so much overheat translations text
There's a lot of returning strings this round; I assume they're typo-fixes.
when do translations get added?
afaik every patch updates the translations
What is this translation debug mode for? The one where you press Ctrl+O and everything becomes a string of numbers with a hashtag
sometimes there are multiple strings with the same text, those numbers however are unique
with them you can find the exact string you want in Crowdin by using the "testing language"
the 5th anniversary obviously
isnt it gonna be a cosmetic dlc
at the end of February
so you can pinpoint the exact string by user its specific code
you see something misspelled/mistranslated ? Just control+o and use the string number to jump directly to it in Crowdin
How, when I type one into the search in file function nothing shows up
oh, the testing language
Is there a way to check a specific crowdin user's activity?

Oh yeah, I didn't notice there were filters there
Kay... because it was written up there that we are to report missing and/or inactive member, and 2 of the people there have been inactive since 2021
Is that list ever updated?
not really 😛
also why still i don't have a pol-translator role
Just passed 1000 words translated in Romanian 🥹
moved the percentage from 12% to 13%
I wonder if there's anyone to vote for my suggestions tho xd

quantity over quality
is that a diss? 👀
You would not believe
Can someone give me the ro translator role pls? I wanna talk to other translators 🇷🇴
@shy pivot You got a brand new colleague ^^
@frozen inlet Could you give the ro-translator role to @kindred remnant please ?
Bet
C ?
U know it
What's the community tester role for?
ro ?
i'll give him the english translator role since his profile isays hes an expert in that
Iirc for people helping with identifying bugs and stuff?
(also i think any of the roles give the same permissions and we dont have a romanian one so i have to use a filler)
its for people who test the community
Trying out experimental builds that the devs release privately, to test out new features/bug fixes/other.
Most are full of bugs, crashes, and spoilers.
Testers are handpicked by the devs, so asking for it would serve no purpose.
Close enough.
There is no Romanian translator role ?
what does M.U.L.E stand for ?
did not see it in the list
oh, cool
It stands for mule
: \
I am/was pretty much the only consistent ro translator so there was no point in having a role just for 1 member.
I wouldn't have had anyone to talk to in the ro-translator room at least until I went insane with the first/last mission names.
oh thanks for the en role, that's what I do for work, but for DRG I'm translating Romanian, so I guess a role should be created for that 🥹
Mobile Utility Lift Engine
Wiki copy paste
@solid bough Good evening Jacob, since we now have a bit more Romanian translators, could they get the role and channel please?
I remembered it. Had to search it when I wrote the glossary
I only said that because I was gonna copy paste it from the wiki but you were first haha
Would love to contact them about doing this for money 👀 but I'm once again getting ahead of myself here
IIRC I think you need to contact coffestain
Their welcoming message on Crowdin is very inviting in that aspect
What about bribes tho?
ok i made the role and added t
got the role yay
Probably going to end as an example of this.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BribeBackfire
thank you
I would invite you to contact Jacob in DMs, and see where it goes from there.
Again, how can I refuse an invitation 👀 thank you, will do!
Are language specific channels still a thing?
Could we get one of those as well if so?
Those should be as well, but IIrc, only devs have the perms for making them
i looked through the permissions of the the translator roles and nothing really stood out
Oh right, you would need "manage channels" permissions and that would apply to all/most of them which would be risky the more people have access.
It was mostly for cataloguing purposes and for the translator rooms.
there is a nl-translators channel
I mean I'll just DM Delgado at this point, I'm already between the top 3 translators for RO and I started yesterday 🥶 it doesn't look like we'd have more colleagues to talk to
The language specific translator roles only have the access to the dedicated channels, nothing more normally...
No, because mods changed the rules so when I edit the posts I get automatically timed out for too many @mentions and the message won't save...
Well you can tell them to exempt you from that or something
Tbf, we should probably ask a dev to upload it...
I need to harass a dev for it but they never have time
Or something like that
||Yes best ping Soren about this||
I'm guessing that you can't even remove people from that or it will think you want to ping 50 people again?
Maybe some kind of list outside discord with links to crowdin profiles and discord names with a tag (as in CoolGuy420#1337)
"Consider this...legally speaking...rocking is more legal than stoning. Eh? Eh?"
Weed joke or stoning somebody joke? I translated it as a weed joke, but I just want to double check lol
Pretty sure it's the former, yeah
Stoning, as in throwing a stone at someone, as in physical assault.
At least that is how I thought of it.
I translated it as that, because the weed joke doesn't make sense in our language
But I'm pretty sure the original intent is a weed joke
I didn't notice the joke and I thought it was fun as is (like just the absurd of making a distinction) so I did not translate a reference either
I am able to translate to either meaning so I opted for the weed joke.
but who decides what is target content
that answer left me with more questions lmao
Iirc. It means into how many words you translated.
For instance
spiritual satisfaction you get when you’re alone in nature
Translate to German
Waldeinsamkeit.
Target words = 1
Some languages due to their grammar or singularities tend to create more target words than their source, others less.
F.i. English to German usually results in more words, because English has simplifying grammar which German has not without going overboard with more sentences.
Depending on the media it can be an objective to stay within a certain amount of words
I see... Should we aim to have less target words than translated?
or it doesn't really matter
Target words don't matter on deep rock. Nearly all strings automatically fit the space where they pop up. Terminals and the like
that's good 😅
I might actually get involved with helping translation because I love this game
Hello,
Feel free to join the project ! The link to the translation platform is in the pinned messages.
Just to know, what language do you plan to work on ?
Profile says Croatian
Ye, Croatian
I remember the community translations credits used to have the language those people translated in parantheses next to their name. Do I remember that correctly? Anyone knows why they stopped doing that?
don't remember it ever being a thing but every credit page is different depending on the language it's translated on so maybe it was a personal choice from the translators of said language ?
To be honest, the translation credits page could use some improvement, in my opinion.
For example, people could be sorted into their languages, and also note whether they're still active (that way, people who don't translate anymore would still get credit, but people know they aren't active anymore).
I think it needs to be entirely reworked because with how many translators there are, it's just chaotic 😄
Idk if the page should say if they're active.. but I agree in sorting them by language
There's already a scrolling names page in the game, in the memorial hall, so that could be copied to the translation credits screen.
There have been some arguments on whether inactive people should be removed completely. IMO they should still receive credit, but it should clearly be stated that they aren't really helping shape the translation anymore.
It would be a good compromise.
ah... I don't see why people who worked on them and deserved credit at one point would need to be taken out of that list later..
their contribution is still in the game
To be fair, a lot of those older translations have been reworked/reworded since then, so what they wrote then may not even be in the game anymore
But at the same time, we shouldn't ignore the time and effort they put into translation
Speaking of, I reached 10k+ words translated in RO 🥳 who do I poke for those goodies?
There are people who are in the credits with less contribution than the ones who have significantly more than those people.
And the latter are not present.
congrats 🎉
It's a bug about to get fixed
No need; the developers check on a regular basis. You'll be contacted eventually.
That's nice! I contacted Jacob in the DMs about getting paid for this, since I do it professionally and all.. No answer so far 😅
I think they can't, because of how working laws are in Denmark
but I guess he'll answer himself eventually
Q: What if I want to get paid?
A: Then you'll have to have a professional setup and get in contact with our publisher, Coffee Stain Publishing. We'll have a much higher requirement here and you'll be competing for a spot with other professional translators.
From the project page
oh yeah I forgot you have to get through Coffee Stain
Was advised to DM Jacob, I thought he's with Coffee Stain
I don't think it is probable that will happen, as most of the time, when they need to get some professional translation, it is for a very specific task and with very short deadlines...
Was advised to DM Jacob, I thought he's with Coffee Stain
That was me, sorry, I misremembered the procedure for getting professional 😅.
Jacob is the Community Manager, so he's kind of a general go to guy for out of the norm demands...
Welp, thanks for the help anyway
I'll see if he gets back to me
I'll probably have more than 30k words translated by then xd
I thought it was just a string that needs to be updated.
DeepRock never be with paid translators.
There were some instances in which paid translators were used (for example, for the emergency translation to Japanese when the release on PS was coming), but it is not the norm.
Isn't the Chinese translation made by professionals?
Is +1 party hats a mistake?
yeah
ok, thanks
Where was that confirmed?
Probably a discussion for the other channel
not sure what you mean ?
can I help you ? This is the translation channel
yes
And how could we help you ?
game dep rok can u jone my game
This is the translation channel.
what you're looking for is #lfg-steam
What's your native language ? You seem to have trouble with English, so I can only suggest looking into fan communities
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? icant tipe tath is rit
Hablas español?
no
So

Are there still people looking for French translators?
As a whole, us translators don't refuse anyone who wants to contribute.
For the French team, we don't have much to translate at the moment, given that the last update has been around for quite the time now, but feel free to create a crowdin account if you didn't already, and join the project.
You'll get notifications when new strings will drop, and your help will be appreciated !
Are the translation even available for the game currently? I checked the options and couldn't find one for changing the game's language. Would be hilarious to hear the dwarves scream in French, lol.
The translations are only for the text of the game, there are none available for the voices (except with some mods)
Aw sad, but fair.
.
.
There’s Morse Code translation now?
.-. --- -.-. -.- / .- -. -.. / ... - --- -. . -.-.--
does anybody know if patch notes stay in-game forever or do they remove them?
they stay in game but I doubt anyone read them
ah ok, well, at least the latest one has the most chances to be read I imagine
yeah
I'll translate that, thanks!
if you just started out I highly recommend
- translating everything in the game first (crowdin folder "allgametext")
- translating patchnoted only with the NEXT patch. Nobody reads the current one anymore.
hey, yeah I wanted to do at least one patch anyway. What's the name of the next patch? 5 year anniversary?
Yes
can't find it .-.
don't think it's been put in just yet
not even sure we'll get a patch notes either
events like that usually don't
we don't even get patch notes for hotfixes
ah, I'll take my time then
Yeah. And patchnotes in some languages even not included in game.
well, RO had 0% of patch notes translated, it looked too sad. Now at least it has a 3% xd
You can just ignore those until the game text is at 100%.
Patch notes is wasted effort if it's not the most recent one
Nor do they get in by release 🥲
Soo now that I'm about 17k translated words in, who gets the Community Translator role and who gets to approve these lines? I localize games professionally already, if that's what it's required..
text gets approved by proofreaders. a community translator can be a proofreader, but not every community translator is a proofreader
and being a professional translator isnt a piece of the criteria to be a ct, no
I see, who do I have to poke for the proofreader permissions?
and the translator role
it's up to GSG to hand out both roles
Both have no hard criteria but are given if needed and trusted.
I'd say being the only active translator in respective language for a while helps with getting the proofreader perm
That's how I got mine, to prevent strangers from messing around that is
And a troubling amount of untranslated text

Nobody has translated a word of Romanian since early 2020.. Soo I guess I'll stick around long enough to get these privileges
As was stated, the CT role is given at the devs discretion, generally to translators that have been around for a while, with a significant contribution - you have that part already - and a good quality (this is mostly determined by the feedback from the players, believe me when I tell you that a google translated localization does not fly silently).
There is already a proofreader for Romanian (@shy pivot), so it is unlikely that a second one will be appointed, apart if he comes forward and asks for it, or there is vandalism on the translation and an emergency measure is needed. As it stands, Delgado is not translating at the moment, but he is still involved and responsive, so there is no need for a second proofreader.
Side note, why are you translating to english ?
Side note, why are you translating to english ?
@kindred remnant For typo in the source string, those issues are talked about through #1062710911367925780 😄
That part was implied in my head, but I forgot to write it ^^' sorry
(this is mostly determined by the feedback from the players, believe me when I tell you that a google translated localization does not fly silently)
where do you guys get feedback on the localizations? here on discord, somewhere else? I'd be interested in seeing what people are saying of the pt-br translations
mostly from fan communities, or by people directly contacting us through different means
Why do a lot of miners manual translations need to be translated multiple times?
you mean they keep showing up ?
yeah
Wait no they only show up once
but there's already a translations in the suggestions
oh wait I think the suggestions are for slightly different versions of the same text nvm
oop, I figured the English was there to suggest corrections for typos and such. Why is there an English section, if I may ask?
that's what I did for those 3-4 lines in English
I can revert them
should I? 👀
They'll make themselves known, by any means possible ^^
Those are called "Translation Memory", and are automatically generated suggestions, based on similar translations. The % indicates how much the base string is similar to the current one, and the colors show the added/missing words.
It is a default of crowdin, from what I understood.
The correct way to signal typos, grammar, etc. is to make an issue in crowdin (Make a new comment, check the box marked "issue", select "Mistake in source string" in the drop down menu, and type a quick description of what is wrong/should be changed) so that the devs can get it automatically added to their to-do list.
Good day! I've been watching videos of Deep Rock Galactic and I really liked how the game looks. Me and friends from Belarus would like to volunteer in translating game to Belarusian language
Hello and welcome !
The translation project happens on crowdin (see link in the pinned messages, you'll need to create an account there), but as of this day, this language has not yet been tackled. If you two are motivated, we can ask the devs to enable it for translation.
I must warn you though, the game currently counts more than 100 000 words (not counting patchnotes), so this will be a very long endeavour. I also recommend owning the game, as you will need to familiarise yourselves with it to be able to translate it accurately.
Feel free to mention me if you have more questions, I am waiting on your answer to put in the demand for the language to be added.
There're more than two of us and we're ready for it! :)
Very well, I'll put in the demand.
Since it is the evening for the devs right now, don't expect an answer before at least 12 hours, at best - they are often overworked, and it may take a bit of time before they can do it.
It's alright! I'll be waiting
Also there's a moment that we'd need to be sure that the font you use in game will support this letter - ў
We currently have a couple of letter trouble with fonts, and a dedicated place to discuss those with the devs. That is still quite a long way ahead, since the language will probably not be added to the game before about half of it is translated. When that happens, and if the letter is not supported, we will push in the corresponding bug-report.
Thanks for letting me know about it!

Hi everyone! Ready to help with the translation of DRG into Belarusian
This guy's with me
Hello to you as well !
The demand for Belarussian to be added to crowdin is still being treated, so you'll have to wait a bit more before you can start.
You can still make an account there though.
I figured ^^
I invited some of our guys in case if they have any other questions about that translation program
Already done, sir!🫡
I just realised one possible problem - Achievements' translation
Since there's no Belarusian language for Steam interface
Surely, there's a Belarusian equivalent.
Aha, got it
22k words translated 🥵 I'll hit 30k before they answer my email for sure
Have you started playing? 🙂
Not able to purchase it yet, but we're just enthusiastic to translate games in Belarusian
I highly recommend giving it a spin before starting translation.
? it was on sale for 10 bucks last week
We only discovered about open requests about translations several days ago
what is the currency you pay on steam when buying from belarus?
USD
What's the current price in your region?
Google claims average pay is about 450 USD per month in Belarus? (Always find this steam pricing and actual worth highly interesting)
Anyways I highly discourage translating a medium you haven't tried yet.
I side with Fakiyo on this. A lot of the context will be lost if you translate without having played the game.
It will make translating a lot harder.
Lies
Plus you will be forced to go over it a second time.
I'm not alone
We already gathered up
I too recommend trying the game before translating.
And it will be much easier and smoother to translate if you have the game as a reference.
I'll ask again for the activation of Belarus.
I'll try to purchase game later, but it'll be difficult because of high price
But still, there're some of simple phrases which can be translated without knowing much
And it'd be nice for other belarusians to see our native language in game, then we'll do it
@shell vine I have my friends with me
They have DRG
Guys, it's ok. We have a team of several people who have played and streamed DRG extensively. After the Belarusian language is added, we will announce it to the community, and I'm sure that after that a few more volunteers will want to join the project.
I'll buy a copy of DRG for @final hamlet myself once the project starts)
Thanks, but there's no need, I'll try to get it by myself)
Pssst! That was a trick)
Duuude, I'll be fine, I tell you xD
Hey guys! i was wondering if you guys needed someone to help with french translation 👀 im guessing you guys already have someone for that tho...
It's always good to have more people to help
:D maybe I have a chance after all then
We're like 8-9 people but sure, we can always get more help 😛
8-9 people feels like half of translator team and this discord is french, including my steam friendslist now.
Maybe it's just me? Maybe I'm just attractive to the French, they gather around me like some sort of leader...
🤢
||Maybe it's because of my french maid outfit?||
||congration, now its even more cursed
||
I would be more than happy to help, even if just ever so slightly :)
@twilit mica Hey, sorry for the ping but could you give the fr-translator role to @pseudo hull please ? Thank you in advance !
mind you, at the moment we don't have a lot to do (the last season has been translated a little while ago now) but we'll have plenty of work when S4 arrives 😄
In the meantime, create your account on Crowdin (link is found in the pinned message, at the end of the translator list) and get familiar with it.
I’ll get on it as soon as possible! Thank you for your help :D
Also I’m not actually French, I’m Canadian French so the time zone are quite far appart, so if I don’t answer right away I will as soon as I can 😁
alright 👍
Speaking of this, do you think it would be useful to have a different translation for Canadian French ?
I dont thinks it’s necessary since tbh, Canadian French is a mix of English and French, it’s like the wish version of French hahaha
alright, thanks for the feedback
Done
It seems to me that some of the vetted Community translators here could use the permission to give language specific roles x)
It's not like it's a security concern and it would ease the moderation team
thank you !
I don't think it's possible for one role to only be able to distribute one other role, it's either all or none
When you have the possibility to manage roles, you can add/remove roles that are below your highest role
In the role hierarchy
Yeah and I don't think the moderation team would be comfortable with us being able to distribute half of the other roles 😄
Maybe I'm too trustful but if it's only a couple of you all, I wouldn't mind in their position
like azerty and you seems to do a lot daily (and others it's just the 2 first names I had in mind)
and be generally trusted by the devs
there's more than a couple community translators and a few of them proved to be untrustworthy in the past
I never meant to say that all community translators should have this power, only a few of them
Azerty and I are also community tester, we're handpicked by the devs. Doesn't mean we should be untrusted with distributing roles.
I think it's fine to keep it into the moderator role. It's only a few pings here and there, hardly anything that overwhelm them.
hi I'm available for fr translation if y'all need, poptart's friend
lmao
:)
lmao
Alright, I'll give you the same introductory info !
At the moment we don't have a lot to do (the last season has been translated a little while ago now) but we'll have plenty of work when S4 arrives
In the meantime, create your account on Crowdin (link is found in the pinned message, at the end of the translator list) and get familiar with it.
@native token sorry (again) for the ping but could you give the fr-translator role to @random mist ? Thank you in advance !
Alright, I'll check that out when I'm not in class
thank you 😄
TomásArmas
Please update the count, we now have two more ;)
:0 i like me a tricycle
just ignore that thing on their chest okay ?
it was the only gif I could find from this movie
What movie? Smurfs?
Are there any other year 5 lines in crowdin apart from the anniversary ones? I wanna focus on those
if you check the notifications, you'll be able to track everything that's been added recently
should help you locate every strings relating to that
grand, thank you!
no problem
my notifications menu is empty tho, I probably turned them off somehow
You can also use the advanced filter options in the editor to sort strings by their add date
huh
Yes ?
Indeed
🥹
congrats on the 30k
how many words do you have to translate before becoming a community translator ?
There is no set amount
this is a matter of trust and work, not a matter of translated words
is it a good idea to contact anyone in particular out of the list of admins on Crowdin to ask about those rewards they advertise? 👀
The rewards are not given as soon as you reach them, but when Alex, the dev in charge of those, has the time to do a rewards pass, and send a batch of those all at once
i mean tbh i pinged a mod that talked in chat earlier and didnt get punish so why not take your chances 👀
the moderators don't handle the reward donation, it's the devs job
it's to their discretion (and specifically to their spare time 😄 )
maybe I get lucky and they'll do it when the year 5 update comes out in early March
We're still awaiting about our request
It took the time, but it is now done. Translate away
Thank you so much!!! ^^
Need little help. As far as I understood from context, quote "Sorry, but you were not responding" means AFK, right?
yes, it's a kick reason
It can mean that, yes
Aha, got it! Thanks!
Is there a way to check the lines we translated that have the biggest difference of target words from the source?
I think the advanced filters have something like that...
I've been here since 2018, so it took me 5 years to go from 0 to 100% all by myself
During that time I've: Went to uni, graduated from uni, bought a car, got an internship, first paycheck, and a full-time job
You can remove my "This language is a work in progress" now ty
congrats !! That's a big achievement, especially on top of everything else ! 😄
Thank you
That's just amazing mate! Congrats on achieving that!!!
And we got our first 2.5k words in Belarusian
sweet
Congratulations! That is one very big achievement to add to your record here!
I'll pass the word along for the work in progress tag to be removed.

Nice, keep it going guys

We just talked over and decided to appoint @amber talon as Belarusian Proofreader
He helped us most to get correct translations
As a general matter, proofreaders are only appointed when there is a need for one (ie, in case of griefing, or once the language is completely translated).
But it is noted that, should the need arise, they will be it.
We just appointed one due to fact that we have pretty lot of words which can be having same meaning.
May I write example here?
Sure
So, there's word Warden.
In Belarusian it can be: Вартавы, Вартаўнік, Наглядчык
And because of that, we have to discuss about best variant and fill in Glossary.
(with this word, there're 4 different variations from 4 different people)
Isn't the voting system enough for you to decide which suggestion is the best ?
It's good, but we need to confirm, because not all people might be online by the time we have decided
First and foremost: Congratulations on your hard work
And about the work in progress watermark
There's a tag under some languages saying "this language isn't complete" it's hard to see but, is it the same tag as the one that was in Slovenian?
Yes, that's the tag he is talking about
I need 500-1500 more words to translate to do own daily plan
Well I checked here, and there's other languages that are 100% translated (incluiding my own) and there's still the same tag on them
It's been there for a while now
Yeah, we asked for the update, but the dev running that part is overwhelmed at this time
I see, hopefully they'll have some time to change it
I'd also push for Romanian special characters to be integrated in the game, there are many like this currently
Ăă Îî Ââ Șș Țț
Another 2.5k plan done
(got exactly 5k, but as I saw patch notes, I realised that it's better to translate those later lol)
I passed the word along
Thank you!
The ones that are integrated already look like they use a different font from the rest of the letters usually
but that just might be caused by other things
I'm guessing that the normal font doesn't have those characters
So they have to use a different one instead
Or edit the fonts to include those characters
editing a font is not a small task. Not even sure you can do it without breaking the copyright.
Hey, all.
I'd be glad to join the Russian translation team in case you guys need more people
Feel free to translate strings on Crowdin (find the link in pinned msgs). There's a lot to translate mostly prior to releases of seasonal updates, just be there when it happens. Discussions take place mostly on DRG RU server.
yea from what i've seen everything has already been translated. i assume its fine to propose new variants of existing translated strings till a new update drops?
Sure, first comes:
- Approved.
- Highest amount of votes.
- Latest addition.
I think you can beat #2 and #3 for most strings, for approved ones you either report via Crowdin or contact a proofreader directly about your suggestion (@dense valley, for instance).
I suggest you to pay attention to other similar strings and how they've been translated before, to use Translation Memory and to take a preference of translating text close to original meaning if possible.
appreciated!
Guys, we finished up the Glossary, we need a Proofreader
Finishing the glossary is great !
But I'm not sure why you are so desperate for a proofreader.
As I said, not all languages have some, and most were only appointed by necessity.
Wait, so how we are supposed to confirm it completely after voting?
As I can see it, there are about 13 people working on Belarusian (and you are, by far, the most active).
Why would you need to have a proofreader appointed ?
Don't get me wrong, I do remember our conversation of a couple days past, where you explained that you would like to have someone to choose in-between similar suggestions. What I do not understand is why said person would need proofreading rights, when there is already the voting system for what you are asking.
the top one makes into the game
no need to vote or to approve
You don't. The strings will be pulled into the game (once the language is added, ofc) anyway.
the translation doesn't need to be approved to get into the game
As it is, the platform works by integrating into the game, when the devs make a build, one chosen suggestion for each string, according to these criteria :
1- Approved string - the proofreader's decision by-passes all others.
2- Most upvoted (or least downvoted), can be changed for the next build if the votes change in the mean time.
3- Most recent one. Can change anytime someone create a new suggestion.
Having a proofreader approve suggestions is good because it removes the possibility of discussion, and "protects" a language against griefers, but it also complicates things, as only the proofreader will be able to make changes to already approved strings, meaning that it makes the language way less flexible in case of new choices made for mob names, for example.
just upvote the one you want
the one with the most votes (or more recent, in case of tie) gets into the game
Aha, not I got it, thanks
Cause I was sooo confused about this system 😅
Never worked translating before on this website, especially for popular game this instant
No problem, feel free to ask here when in doubt 🙂
French is the only one 100% approved.
I would also (personally) recommend not burning yourself out on translation, this is a stamina effort, not a race ^^
Ukrainian is already 96% haha
Would be second totally confirmed I think
That's because it's one man work basically.
And yes, French is 100% approved, but we unfortunately suffered a couple of raids from automated accounts, and several rashes of very bad translations™️ (read, google translations, copy pasted to crowdin).
So we now have 2 proofreaders for this.
I have a question regarding translation
I'm alright! I put myself a plan and I'm working, according to it
Ukrainian is supported by a single member rn, and since he has the proofreading rights as well, he spent some time going back over everything to check stuff up.
In short, we will probably appoint a proofreader once your language is either :
- at 100%
- Under attack
Sure, fire away
Where are all of the english translators?
We sometimes might have cases when some of Belarusians might type in Tarashkevitsa))
It's Belarusian (Traditional)
Am I understanding correctly that if, say, a translation is 50% complete and 20% approved, that means only 20% of the words and phrases have voices?
For Registrum : There is only Tommygun and Pirtylo for the moment, why ?
We just need to keep translating
No, 50%
Approving is needed in rare cases to "defend" our translations
When it comes up to, for example, spam attack or badly brought translation
approving is, in other words, "locking" a translation
Just wondering if there were any at all
No real need, really, since the game is originally written in english
220 words left before today's plan
it'd be 7500 words overall
(Basically I'm used to working with text a lot, so, I'll be alright)
no, the game is not getting voiced in other languages, the translation effort is just for the text, and approval doesn't affect that
Word of advice though, for when you will stumble upon strings related either to the mission naming system, or the mineral ticker sytem, to skip those entirely for the moment. They are both used in randomly assembled sentences, and thus need to be tackled as a single entity, and not when you first get to them.
I do that
I firstly translate what I'm able to translate
And when I need help, we just discuss how to correctly translate that so Belarusian players would understand
I don't doubt that. I just meant that those specific strings can be hard to identify as what they are, but will need to be ignored for the moment (despite seeming simple when taken individually).
You can see what they look like by searching for either of those in crowidn :
MissionNaming/Mission_NameBank
News_WordLists
News_Headlines
Aha, got it
wait what do you mean?
You have the (joke) en-translator role ;)
ah it was to answer the other person
I guess they were asking what's the purpose of the English language being there
🐓
I really want to know what the motive for those things are
just for griefing? hoping for rewards?
Can be different reasons though
it had to do with chickens. French Translators will love to tell you the story
uhm
the chickening
to add to this : we were appointed because at the time, it was only two of us translating and voting wasn't enough to outdo bad translations that accumulated for 2 years prior.
And Mist couldn't do all the approval by himself.
less malicious : training a translating bot or simply wanting the game in french but not knowing anything about english.
BABEL FISH?, how did i not know this was here(sorry unrelated)
You can redeem yourself by translating a language to 100%
Do not miss out! This is a time-limited offer!
cough
definitely didn't do that at all.
nope, never.
okay, cheese pounce
To be fair, it would still be possible without too much hassle, if the number of words had not been tripled since
Let's give them 2 months to make it more fair
Wait, another diss already? 👀
Yes, I played Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Valhalla and disliked the polish translation
Uu translators are external, not ubi ppl, but employed by ubi
That's the best I could defend sry
Okay, interesting
Localization specialists are in-house
That's what I do
So still, typos and grammar issues are our fault I'd say
Makes sense, you would have nothing to work on at times if you were employed by one company
Eh yes and no, depends
Can you say how do you get context clues?
But anyway I don't wanna spam the chat with this. Yes I translated 36k in 2 weeks for drg, come at me xd
Oh no, it's not spam I think it's very insightful
Idk if translators have the game when they work on them, just spreadsheets
Loc specialists do play the games
Right, I hate that kind of approach. You see it with a lotta AAA games, I guess they don't want to have leaks
Ubisoft can't see this... I think
My polish colleague plays drg actually
Then again who knows if Discord doesn't sell them user data
My main problem was with a few translations being completely senseless in context, but I guess that if they just received the line only then it was probably hard to tell for them what it meant
Yeah.. imagine translating DRG without ever seeing it
Again, idk id that's the case, don't destroy me
Even then at least crowdin lets you see the source directory
context is important, only a fool would deny that
Of course, I'm not blaming you, I'm blaming whoever took the executive decision
which means you can at least tell when a dwarf saying "we did it" means "we completed the mission, yay!" or "we managed to get the beer mug in the bio tank, hahaha get trolled management"
hah nerd

That was a joke 😉 Good work man
I knoow, thank you
🥹
Do devs announce when they're about to import the new translations, or do they always happen when a new patch is released?
Yes I'm impatient
Or excited to see my translations in game I should say
mb there will be a patch before the anniversary, otherwise it looks to happen in the next season
every new patch, and for some things, they give us info on what's important to translate but those infos are "spoiler"-ish so they're hidden within the translator-spoiler channel
which you do not have access to yet
I'm squeezing as many important lines as I can, I wish I could know what the deadline is
Cause I imagine there'll be a longer waiting time between the next patch notes and the following one
there's no deadline atm
unless you could next season as a deadline
1-2 weeks prior to next season would be your imaginary deadline
the last week before the season is usually reserved to translating content related to the season itself
we will likely pull translations friday or monday for a patch
Woaah nice!
there you go, deadline
aren't we all
it happens when it happens
I wanna surprise my colleague that plays drg by showing him my name in the credits soon (hopefully) 🥹
you can actually do that yourself
since you got the 30k words, you just have to add yourself to the list
Show me that list, Pounce
speaking of list, we should really update the wiki editor and community tester lists
don't have access to those though
you can ask alex
I think we did ? I'll need to check
search for "UA2" in Crowdin
hmm, actually you might not be able to see that now that I think of it
Yess, I'm a bit confused
yeah sorry, I forgot it was a hidden string
I could talk you into putting my name in for me?
who's the proofreader of your language ?
The last romanian that touched crowdin was in early 2020
Delgado Kenway, he was the main guy back then
He's not translating anymore
you'll have to ask them, I won't be touching another language. Delgado is still around, even though he's not very active.
he's been busy IRL
He was still talking to us in January this year
Yess, I know he's busy, I'll try to nag him a bit
Eventually, we do a pass and update every list at once, once in a while
maybe we'll do a pass before S4
well, it's more like pinging every community translator and telling them to update those lists 😄
If I don't get an answer I'll move my nagging somewhere else, maybe I can get access to the list 🤣
Eventually, we'll need to update the translator list in the pinned message too.
That's gonna be a lot pings 😄
The lists in the game should not be edited by either translators or proofreaders.
The names present in it are the sole decision of the devs.
The string is available on crowdin as a courtesy, so that different languages can re-organize it to showcase their translators.
they're no longer available, so I supposed it reflect that change
they used to be but not anymore
yeah, I can't see that
Ah...
🤣
That's weird, since it's only regular hidding (there isn't even an option to have several levels of hidding...)
I only see one list, and it's hidden, and not the one you linked
But crowdin did change how proofreading roles were given a while back, might be it...
there used to be a non-hidden one
within each language, edited with the translators of said language coming first
all of that is gone now so I suppose it reflect that change, as I said earlier 😄
I'm looking at it, I'll see if I can make it proofreader only again
bah, it's not extremely important, is it ?
we touch it like what, once every two years ? 😂
Are you able to see other hiiden strings ?
I got 7 pages of them, dunno how many are hidden to admin only
Thing is, I wasn't even aware that some were manager only...
now you are
And I don't see an option to set that 🤷
I'm not sure why it matters anyway
if it's hidden, there's nothing to proofread or translate
so whether or not it is available, it doesn't matter
Does anyone know when the next sale will be on steam?
this is the chat for game translation, i recommend maybe going to #drg-chat instead
New strings dropped miners !
I need help from other translators @@
In DRG there are lots of word plays. How do you guys translate it? I've been scratching my head lately to no avail @@ Any help is appreciated!
You just need to get creative and come up with your own puns in your language. It's kinda hard
for stuff like this you definitely have the freedom to change it as you see fit, as long as you manage to convey the overall feeling of the original
my advice is just "make a new joke"
That's why we have a translator dedicated to puns only
Honestly, I'd say go for a joke related to this one if you can, and if you cannot, go with another one.
Also, reminder that keeping the spirit of the game is the important part, don't try to hard if you can't keep a joke
on a separate note, does anyone know what this string is?
https://crowdin.com/translate/deep-rock-galactic/all/en-drg?filter=basic&value=17#119454
I'm 99% sure the current translation for it is wrong, but I have no idea where to find it
When we click the link you gave, it redirects us to the testing language.
So, my guess is that you wrongfully set crowding into the testing language and not yours (which seems to be pt-br)
As for the name itself, I don't recall anything called this way in the game, but it's a synonym to the breach cutter
When we click the link you gave, it redirects us to the testing language.
that was intentional
Oh, I'm sorry then
But that doesn't change that it's a synonym for the breach cutter, which isn't used in a visible manner in the game
if it doesn't appear anywhere, I suppose it doesn't matter
Time to work

If only I have someone else to translate too 🥲
thanks for the advices!
you could ask ChatGPT for help
you could directly ask how to translate that pun, or to formulate a pun following certain parameters for you
chatgpt is not available in my country, sadly 😦
It's Vietnamese
ok, so first I asked to translate the phrase directly, and it said this:
In Vietnamese, the pun "sham-boo" would not be directly translatable since there is no similar pun between "shampoo" and "boo" in Vietnamese. However, you could translate the phrase to convey the same idea of cleaning a ghost prop made from a sheet. One possible translation could be: "Tờ này cần được làm sạch! Ai đó lấy cái bàn chải lên và quét cho sạch sẽ!" which translates to "This sheet needs to be cleaned! Someone grab a brush and sweep it clean!"
it got rid of the "spooky" part of the pun, so then I asked it to formulate a pun that played on the concepts of "cleaning" and "scaring", which gave me this:
"Cần phải lau chuồng bị, ma giật chân"
(Translation: "Need to clean the haunted house, ghost scared to lose its feet")In this pun, the phrase "lau chuồng bị" (clean the haunted house) sounds similar to "lau chỗ bị" (clean the dirty spot), while "ma giật chân" (ghost scared to lose its feet) plays on the idea of a ghost being scared or spooky.
I have no idea how good this one is for you, so I tried one more asking it to stay close to the original phrase, but replacing "shampoo" with a different cleaning product, and it gave me this:
"Trang này cần phải lau sạch! Ai đó lấy cái chai sữa đánh răng đen đủi đi!"
This translation replaces "sham-boo" with "a bottle of black toothpaste," which sounds similar to "đen đủi" meaning "unlucky" or "ominous" in Vietnamese. The wordplay here is that the phrase sounds like "đánh răng đen đủi" meaning "brushing teeth with black toothpaste," which is a cleaning product that could be associated with the color black, often used to depict scary things.
WHOA
hopefully one of those is useful for you, and if you have any ideas for different prompts to generate better results, don't hesitate to ping me
I didn't think you would go this far, can't thank you enough for the help 🥹
mad respect
no problem! 😁
If there are languages similair to yours you could also snoop around in there. Dutch and German are sorta similair so I'll sometimes look how they translated a pun and see if it works in Dutch too.
Good idea! I'll try it, thanks!
You can easily see how other languages translated it when you click 'Other Languages' at the bottom.
So you don't have to open another language (I totally didn't do this when I started translating)
Ma man feeling good now

also, let me know what translation you decided on when you figure it out, I'm curious! 😄
honesty I'm still figuring it out D: I have come up with a variety of translation and none of them have meet my criteria yet. Translating these pun jokes surely are difficult
It's always great to have a helping hand 😄 Please do!
dang I love this community
Will do. There are some words that in my opinion should be changed, and I wanted to gain experience, sort of knowing what the context are, etc.. When I'm more confident, I'll try to finish the Glossary part 😄
I would just skip those until I'm done with the rest, they're normally voice lines and only seen for a second with subtitles enabled
they take quite some time and effort
What's the origin of the 'gniffer' part of hexawing gniffer? Does it reference something or is it a completely made up word?
Oh boy new strings
A completely new thing, invented for the game.
Thanks!
40k words lessgoo

Great work man !
that ought to be worth a
Thank you thank you
niiiice

What am I doing here
Yes
You're here now, better start translating.
"or you'll be sent to Birmingham"
