Pings are fine, but not communication in a way that lets a team plan or handle complex situations. Explain to someone “let’s use the bulk detonator to kill the dreadnaught” using pings.

You can't. Hence my point of a Dwarf already knowing what they're doing, and what they're class should be doing, will be able to effectively communicate through pings. You can explain stuff to someone on mic all you want but if they don't have any experience with the thing first hand it's still super likely to fail first time anyway, imo.

If you care a lot about explaining the game to people, play with a consistent group. With my consistent group, I use voice chat. When I'm playing with randoms, it's all pings. I'm not using matchmaking to lecture/be lectured on the finer points of OMEN removal

You can get good random lobbies when you get experienced dwarves. They'll often see exactly what you're seeing to take advantage of, and if not, a ping will alert them. Obviously, less experienced people use the server browser too, so quality varies. But you can pick up their slack as long as it's haz 3-4

Haz 5 does test teamwork harder to the point where if you're not prepared to carry hard, you should probably do it with a pre-made group and voice chat

I just don't think voice chat is necessary for lower hazards with randoms

Per the above argument - one of the biggest barriers to defeating the Omen is having all 4 players knowing what the fuck is going on. I have been a part of many failed Omen events, and the ones where we did defeat it have always been with voice or text chat where some strategizing is in place. I agree that for lower Haz levels dont need as much communication - but it is always nice for the newbs who need a bit of direction.

Does anyone mine like me where if it takes 1 or 2 hits to mine regardless of if the mineral or terrain needs 1 or 2 hits, mine the terrain instead of the mineral? I feel like it's faster as mining terrain digs a larger area compared to mining the mineral directly

Obviously if terrain takes 3 hits then mine the mineral, but if equal or less then mine terrain. I can dig out magnate completely as an example rather then ~6 hits, 2 hits for 1 hit terrain or 4 hits in 2 hit terrain

Simply cus the dig area as I said is larger in size then mining minerals directly

Saving so much time everywhere, like sandblasted or that 1 hit terrain makes mining so stupidly fast

I haven't come across a single player who does it all the time like me

Was just gifted the game today, had to spend time to set up my mouse (Had to do 4500 manual. Took me a hot minute to figure it out) while in the tutorial. But that's not the point. Walked out of the drop pod, backed up into it. Got trapped between the door and gate, the pod drug me to wherever it stops, I jumped, clipped through the pod then fell to my death. Ended up in the hub with no idea what was going on; my friend who bought the game had to help me find the tutorial so I could play through it. Not a complaint - Just my first 5 minutes with DRG

No worries at all. The community, at least here in discord, is pretty darn good. And the wider community, the random folks you might play with, are generally not obnoxious or offensive. All in all, DRG has a pretty good community

And playing with others on chat is really where DRG shines, but it's absolutely playable solo. Bosco is the best teammate: listens better than your friends and never takes ammo from the resupply

The MULE climbing vertically to get to the drop pod has been a... Thing already after my friend told me to trust its pathing and follow its markers lmao

Yeah, you get used to the caves and navigation, but you can always follow the mule and the beacons... if you can actually follow them, that is. She tends to walk up vertical walls and go where it's hard to follow. But that's when things get fun an you have to use all the tools at your disposal. The terrain scanner is a huge help in finding paths

That's one thing that makes me enjoy being a digger so far. No walkway, no problem. Right to the drop pod's beacon as the crow flies.

Look in the pinned messages to find instructions on transferring saves between Windows Store and Steam. That'll point you to the right folders for save files so you can make backups going forward. I can't say I've seen a ton of people having problems with saves, but it has happened enough that I make a backup every few weeks or so, just in case

Hi Folks. Not sure if this is a common question: Any way to use one Gamepass account to connect to the game from an Xbox AND a PC simultaneously?

This is something my wife and I were able to do with Sea of Thieves, but DRG insists that my one Game Pass account be signed out on the other device when I try to log in on a new device.

if they do, it should be right above where your VC connection and mute/disconnect options are displayed. If it's not there then it's either what i just mentioned

or discord doesn't detect the game and you need to go into "user settings" and manually add the program to the list of games in the "game activity" tab

microsoft release is based on when devs push the publish button and when microsoft plans on release of either windows or xbox first, last update i remember they pushed the update to windows first and xbox got the update after

i had xbox friends that said update didnt show up while i got it so i said join me and when they did it said update and then it showed up for them in store to update game

microsoft releases any updates from windows 10 to xbox game updates in waves so they dont get overloaded servers like when apple released an ios update and overloaded servers

They should release simulateneously, but since Xbox Live is a huge place, there’s some syncing that needs done. Might be due to reduce strain like nibs says, might be a cluster of servers that need to sync up.

Even on Steam you sometimes have to restart it to force a check.

It was announced back on January 14th in the #announcements channel. I haven't checked, but posts like that are usually made on their twitter. And, for what it's worth, updates on the Xbox/Windows Store versions have almost always come out a week or two after the Steam version. It gives the devs time to find and fix big issues before trying to pass certification.

The only thing they could do differently at this time is delay the Steam version, and that would just mean it takes longer for Steam folks to get it and we'd likely deal with more bugs on Xbox/Windows Store... bugs we'd be stuck with for longer because of the certification process. The devs are making a reasonable decision given the circumstances, and trying to announce things as well in advance as possible.

And as far as I'm aware, and as others have mentioned, copying save files between Steam and Windows Store versions works just fine. It's not straightforward, but it's also never been an official feature; the method is an unofficial, but acceptable, means to copy progress between two separate versions, nothing more and nothing less

You could still play with them on that version even after copying your save. Copy the saves to and from whenever you want whenever you want. And if you make no progress you care about keeping on Steam, but just play to check it out, it's even simpler. Your friends on Xbox would not be able to join you on the Steam version right this second (unless they buy the Steam version, of course), but you can play both versions -- probably even simultaneously since they are different builds and different accounts, but I haven't tried that and don't actually recommend it. And in a week you and your friends will be on the same version regardless of everyone's platforms of choice

And of course now that I've said that, I do kinda want to try to play Steam and Windows Store versions simultaneously on two different monitors...

Well, copy the save over. It doesn't hurt anything and takes only a few minutes. Problem solved. Or, play on Haz 2: you'll have a bit of a challenge, but if you have experience it should still be fairly easy to survive. Or Haz 1 as a last resort; Haz 1 is almost impossible to die solo because of Bosco. There are options

Just make sure that you copy files. Don't move them, always copy. That way the originals are still there just in case. I also keep all original save files when I transfer. I just rename the original so that it's available and safe

Xbox has been pretty dope as a community have to say. I made a PC account, didn't have a lot of fun playing with anyone on that end, and went back to console. Everyone is quick to help each other get unlocks and stuff, the PvP scene is actually p lively still and not having to worry about someone running scripts is great. You heard about the recent story of people tricking noobs to board their carriers, fly them out to the middle of nowhere and basically trap them into mining resources for them? I have a question about the servers and regions in DRG. I cant help but notice that sometimes ill join a GB server where i'm from and the ping is through the roof (900+) even though I have a steady connection still, does anyone know what causes this? EDIT: I should mention 99% of the time I don't have this problem its just the odd server I join.

There are no servers; everything is peer 2 peer. When you join a game, you are connecting to the host directly, as are any other team members, and as such the each player's ping represents each player's physical distance from the host player

The Xbox/Windows Store versions do not have Discord integration. So the lfg Discord invite system and Unions are Steam-only features

I can't speak to the server browser in the game, and there's a number of factors that can influence the connection performance, but generally with peer 2 peer the physical distance between both PCs/consoles factors significantly. More distance equals longer round-trip travel time for data.

So with someone in a different country, but with both players very close to the shared boarders, you could have a better connection than with someone who is in the same country as you but on the opposite side of the country

But again, it's only one part of the equation. A host playing on a weak wifi signal could live next door and you might have a worse time than playing with a host who lives halfway around the world

Gotcha, I've experienced that to be the case a lot in Elite, a game that uses P2P as well. Like if someone from the UK, US, and AUS all were in a shared instance the whole game would lose its mind. Sometimes ping is just brutal regardless of distance too

It can be, yeah. Distance isn't the only factor. Using a VPN, or an even a smaller ISP that introduces extra network hops because they lease bandwidth from a larger provider can easily increase ping. Ping is the measure of the milliseconds it takes for a packet to make a round-trip between you and the target, in this case the host

Well, Steam cannot crossplay with Xbox at all ever, and the Windows Store version is still on the same version as Xbox, as they're the same version, just different platforms

Xbox and Windows Store are essentially the same version. They get updated at the same time. The nature of worldwide distribution sometimes means it's available a few minutes faster for some people as the builds take a little time to get synced to all the distribution servers. So Xbox and Windows Stores should both be available at roughly the same time (within a few minutes) on February 11th

Yep. Steam typically gets the update first, as the devs can find and fix bugs quickly for the Steam version. The Xbox/Windows Store versions require Microsoft certification, which significantly slows down the devs ability to issue quick fixes to problems that might pop up after a big update. So, since they're an indie dev with a smallish team, they release the Steam version first so they can put resources into finding and fixing the bugs before trying to get the Microsoft certification. Steam gets the game a week or so earlier, but we get less game-breaking bugs when our version gets the update

I know some folks get bummed out about waiting a week or two, but it honestly seems like the right way to do updates given the circumstances

I'm still new as I got the game yesterday. Try managing 2 oppressors while fueling a drop pod on a salvage mission. Hard as hell to solo

Oppressors are easy imo

Six shooter for gunner takes them out quick

Cyro drillers can take them out easily with a freeze and axe combo
