Yes, and the cause of those issues has been removed and replaced, and is now available for testing in Microsoft's Insider program. It's a huge change and requires time and a lot of testing to make sure other things aren't broken as a result of the work to fix the connection issues

Couldn't figure out what the connection issue was, person I was trying to play with couldn't connect to another PC user using the MS version.
Xbox insider is acting like I have to start completely over, so not sure if I did something wrong there. Main save is fine though.

Nope, nothing you did wrong. Insider uses a separate save file so it doesn't mess up your main save. Insider also has a Cheat Terminal located next to the Med Bay to level up and get equipment quickly so you can easily test the whatever aspect of the game you're interested in
After applying some cheats, like advancing assignment stages, you need to Disband Team from the pause menu for things to work
The Insider build should be pretty stable now, and should work when playing with friends (as long as they're also using the Insider build), but just be aware there are still some significant bugs (like the gunners shield generator disappearing after the first time it's used)

@frigid mortar There are some things you can try if you haven't already, but they don't work for everyone. Long story short is the devs have already replaced a large part of the game due to a whole bunch of issues including the connection issues some people, including yourself, have experienced. Currently, the update that should fix these issues is available for testing from Microsoft's Insider program. The Xbox and Windows Store versions should be in a much better place soon.

Hi, guys. I just joined this server since I've been playing DRG on Xbox for the past couple months.

I am aware that the Xbox version of this game may not be as refined as the PC one, as I have witnessed quite a few texture glitches and had the game crash on me a couple times.
The glitches I know to occur frequently are during Eliminations in the Radioactive Exclusion Zone, Crystalline Caverns, and the Magma Core (all of which have 3-hit terrains). What happens is that while the drop pod is descending at the beginning, my dwarf gets clipped out of the ship and ends up on the roof of it when it touches down. So I have to carefully hop down the ship, with hoverboots active for a safe measure, and "hunt down" whatever texture glitch caused me to start off like that.
I say "hunt down" because when I do find any stretched wall textures that lag the game when I approach them I either shoot it with the Gunner's minigun or walk up to it and pick it away, thusly "killing it".
One time, though? I had the Mighty Walrus moustache glitch out, making it look like a Vinesauce corruption! Luckily it went away when I dashboard-reset the game, so thank goodness.
Any of you guys ever experienced texture glitches like that?

Hey guys i managed to fix my connection. I tested this with 3 people on pc, then 2 people on pc and one xbox. 0 Issues so far, we let the game run for awhile too. Go to cmd admin and run this, netsh interface teredo set state servername=Teredo.remlab.net

It takes about a day to release release an insider update since it has to go through an approval process. There is no such logistical restriction in place with steam. In the past there have been multiple updates pushed on the experimental branch in a day.

Microsoft has a vested interest in making sure your hardware functions, because if it doesn't then you won't be spending any more money on their closed ecosystem. Steam didn't sell the hardware and they take no responsibility for what the software they sell might do, so they have very little to lose and everything to gain by taking the hands off approach
And since Microsoft doesn't want end users to tinker with the systems, so they don't provide the ability for the user to solve problems on their own, whereas a PC user is free to do whatever they want with their hardware and Steam has no reason to try to control the hardware or software
Are Steam games trivial to pirate? Incredibly so, but they're still making money and it's probably not worth the expense and work it would take to better control the ecosystem

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to. There is no tool or weapon that is a mining laser. If possible, can you post a screenshot of what you're trying to do. My guess is you might be looking at a machine event. If that's the case, then you need a dwarf that's been promoted to activate the little cube-shaped console near the machine. It should say something like "Insert Tritilyte Key." Only dwarfs who have been promoted at least once have a Tritilyte Key

No problem at all. The little console looks like a small whiteish cube with a triangle-shaped socket on top. I don't see it in your screenshot, but they can be easy to miss sometimes. As soon as you're promoted, or if you have a promoted dwarf in your party, the machine events become a fun (and sometime very frustrating) bonus activity that can fill a blank core with a blueprint as a reward. They're a bit rare, and are generally rather exciting to find. Even if you fail the event, you get a nice chunk of XP just for attempting it, so it's (almost) always worth a go when possible

If you're trying to join friends, have everyone exit and restart the game. If that doesn't work, have everyone reboot Xbox/PC and try again.
If you're trying to join random players, there's probably not a lot you can do. There's some things you can try listed in the pinned messages in this channel (at the top of Discord, icon looks like a push pin), but if those things don't work you'll probably have to wait until the next update, which should be soon.
The devs have done major work to fix a lot of thse issues, they finished public testing recently, and they want to get this out as soon as possible. If should fix the issue you're having.
Also, if you're trying to join random players, you can try being the host and see if random players can join you. My friend and I leave our party open for everyone, and we almost always have 1 or 2 people join within a few minutes of starting a mission

@sly stone I've never seen official word on it, and I've never tested Steam vs. Windows Store myself, but I always assumed they were different because even Windows Store vs. Xbox is different.
If I host a Deep Dive on the Windows Store version compared to if my friend hosts on the Xbox version, the caves, mission objectives, and mission modifiers will be exactly the same, but the nitra, gold, and mission objects will spawn in different locations between the two versions. So it seems these two versions use the same seed, hence the identical cave structure and mission objectives, but the way the seed generates the resources and objects varies between PC and Xbox. I always just assumed since Steam was pretty different than the Xbox/Windows Store versions that the Deep Dives would be pretty different as well

Tbh i'm finding most of the time, for us anyways, initially for the first 5-10 minutes of a game theres a lot of disconnects going on but after that initial time it seems to be alright, can do mission after mission after mission and its fine, it just seems like that initial setup

They've retired the current Insider build as they're preparing to release the update that should fix the connection issues (and other issues). No official word on when it will release, and Microsoft's certification process always adds some amount of time to when it becomes available, but I'm guessing we're days away, not weeks away

@ripe granite Yes, you're not alone. Some seem to be affected significantly worse than others, but it's a known issue resulting from a discontinued UWP plug-in. The devs have replaced UWP with a new framework, and just finished beta testing via Microsoft's Insider program. They're preparing the update to go live now, so it should be out soon and it should fix connection issues along with some other significant issues (like the textures glitch on the Xbox version) and possibly improve performance at the same time

Wtf is going on with the mic in the windows version? Is it really a forced open mic to the game, the whole time? Why no push to talk, ala steam? And no option to turn off my mic?
I just irritated a greybeard and his green son to no end by joining a run casually while I talked to my people in a separate xbox live chat. Played the game quiet so I could hear my friends, couldn't hear them asking me to stop until a quiet moment, much later.

I can't say for sure that this works because I've disabled Deep Rock from being able to use my mic in Windows settings and use Xbox Party Chat or Discord instead, but I've seen people say 'Z' is supposed to toggle the mic on and off.
That being said, the devs are aware of the push-to-talk issue and other current audio idiosyncrasies, and would like to inprove that area when they are able. It's not game breaking and there are work-arounds, so it's taking a back seat to the engine update and framework overhaul that is to be released soon

Although I sort of wish it had been a little more upfront about that. Not really intuitive that I have to go in through settings, and it would have saved both those players and myself some grief to have a message pop up on a fresh install, or in the settings page, or to have a mic symbol flash up when you're transmitting.
I looked around the screen and UI for a mic symbol to see if I was being broadcast and everything, because I saw them from the other players in one match.

Absolutely! It's far from ideal, and in some ways not even completely functional in its current state. It's a minor frustration, relatively speaking, but a frustration nonetheless, especially when it causes problems.
Hopefully they'll be able to get to it shortly after update 32, since that would be the first opportunity where I'd imagine there would be adequate time to overhaul that stuff

I know the answer is roughly a week, and it's a fairly bugass question, so it's aimed mostly at nibbles because I feel like he has a list of every glyphid fart on hoxxes (both in chronological order and rated from most to least smelly). On average, how many days does it take for the steam update to migrate to console/windows?

I'm asking for someone who can remember exactly how long the last few took to make an educated guess, if such a person exists. Like, I'm reasonably sure it won't be longer than a week but I'm gonna try to clear my schedule in advance for that day.

@grave sapphire What nibbles meant is we usually get the update for Windows Store and Xbox about one to two weeks after Steam. We have typically gotten the update after most/all of the new bugs are found and patched, so we get a version with all the hotfixes applied and the devs don't need to send a bunch of updates to Microsoft certification which slows them down

I would recommend putting it on haz 3 if you're going to do open lobbies, even if you're used to playing on haz 4 or 5
Unless you have a lobby fill up with more experienced players
Or unless you like having 30+ revives in a single mission, I guess

Crossplay with steam is probably never going to happen because Microsoft updates happens 1-2 weeks after steam and steam updates happen quicker then Microsoft updates

@cosmic cobalt. I'm pretty high leveled and I still play on Haz 3. Haven't gotten the hang of haz 4 yet and it feels shameful being Platinum 1 and having to get picked up half a dozen times. Which is to say that I'm always playing on your preferred dificulty and am always down to play.
